[Q] Question about the Samsung Galaxy Tab Wifi only model - Galaxy Tab General

hello!
this is my first time posting here. im planning to buy a galaxy tab wifi only model. the only problem i have right now is that im unsure if i could use the developments in the CDMA or GSM parts of the forum about the tab. Or am i right in thinking that i cannot use either?
thanks!

Its a fairly new device. With different firmware. So I say wait till its in circulation and devs start working on its ROMs.

Thanx for the quick reply sir. I am also concerned with the considerably lower chance of the WiFi only model being updated to 3.0, whether by Samsung or someone here in the forum. If that's my concern, would you advice me to get the gsm version instead?

[Q] Just bought a new Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000

Ok i've recently bought a new samsung galaxy tab GT-P1000 in england, its unlocked to all networks, running froyo xwjj3, i absolutely love it, it meets all my needs perfectly,
now i'm fairly new to the android world, ive been a devout iphone owner for years but figured it was time for a change, i had a good understanding of the "jailbreaking" world of the iphone but i'll be honest and say the android world of ROMs totally throws me off, like for instance is there a ROM which will make tab any better or faster? themes that maybe make use of its larger screen?
basically what i'm asking for is any type of help that u think would be useful to a rookie, apps and games, anything that can make full use of my lovely new machine?
also on a side note, i have an Orange Livebox router in my house and my samsung connects with it fine only after i press the wifi button on the box and then suddenly drops the signal at any specific time, what could be the cause of this?
thanks so much for any help
Congatulations and welcome to the family
A lot of us share your love to the Tab and motivated to make it even better.
If Tab meets your current needs you might not need any modifications. The easy way is just following Samsung notifications about available updates and simply enjoy your Tab.
If you want to be on the edge of XDA development and ready to take risk of testing latest releases of firmware you need to go through reading of the Development forum.
It might be a lot of reading but it would save your from frustration when something goes wrong.
Luckly, development is in very good state right now and your can choose fast firmware that is tested enough for everyday use.
to update the tab you will need kies (which sucks)

Just read a few threads in the development section here , I was a complete novice not long ago , I now have a custom kernal + rom and my device is rooted. Some of the roms are better but jj7 is just fine - you can update officially from jj3 using kies as its genuine samsung software
For nice themes grab adw launcher from the market and then add some themes for it... google is your friend

thats the thing tho, i have been reading up and looking, from what i can gather 90% of the customs roms on the samung galaxy tab are for non UK users who want to make phone calls from there device, we can already do that in the UK so what types of ROMs are beneficial to us?
also ive heard launcher pro is better for the galaxy tab rather adw launcher, is that true?
thanks for the help by the way

Wifi model and XDA

Hello everyone,
I am going to purchase a XOOM as soon as I can on sunday morning when the wifi version releases, but am concerned with the support the wifi model will get on XDA. I have a quick question regarding the wifi xoom. Any help would be much appreciated!
Will Xoom owners be able to flash any ROM onto the tablet? For instance, can we flash a 3g rom onto a wifi model (my guess is no)? This isnt really a problem we've encountered with phones yet and worries me. Development within the xoom community could become really fragmented if we have to develop for seperate devices.
Thanks in advance!
You'll be able to do it all the same way just without 3g. Much like a phone's ROM that has support for everything under the sun, but since some phone hardware doesn't allow those features, the extras just don't work -- simple as that!
You'll be good to go... no real need to worry!
The support should be pretty much the same i would think
Best news I've heard all day! Thanks!

Sprint CDMA SGH-P100 Galaxy Tab ROMs

Hey All,
I'm still really new to this whole custom ROM for Android experience. One ROM I've heard of positive things about is Overcome.
Am I misunderstanding or is this a GSM ROM that will therefore not work on my CDMA Tab?
Further, are there any good ROMs I should have a look at?
Thanks!

Verizon 10.1 Tab

Why isnt there any development for this version of the tab?

I would guess its because its more expensive, not as many people have it, and perhaps the LTE radio complicates it a bit (?).
jfl0wers has a custom ROM that a few of us are helping test out. Works wonderfully but auto screen rotation is currently broken (just a heads up). I linked the thread below.

[Q] Planning on buying this phone

Hi all,
I am planning on buying this phone over an Xperia ZR, number one reason being software updates and development support (and because it's cheaper)
I have a few questions and if you can point me to the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
But first, please see below of what you can expect from me:
I am knowledgable in flashing ROMS, rooting, etc.
I like to read stuff, but this is the first time I've asked a question that I can read up on. Why? I'm gonna be very, very, VERY busy in my work schedule (I know, holiday season, then this) and I kinda like to be prepared first before going through flashing ROMS, etc. (Especially when I am groggy with said work schedule) I might not have time to read through dozens of threads (forums is saturated) and 20+ pages (or 200+ for that matter)
Now, on to my questions:
What is this about radios? I've had a Samsung Galaxy S2 and I've spent hours trying to get a proper modem/radio to work on my SIM (NTT Docomo, I unlocked it, sim didn't work, long story). In the end I can text and make calls but don't have 3g. Is the radios here the same?
I've skimmed the General Discussion and I saw a thread about LTE (hence my questions about radio) Can anyone tell me if it will work on my local provider? From my provider's website
Smart fired up LTE in the 2100MHz band officially making it the first multi-frequency service provider of mobile LTE in the country (Philippines) and one of the first in the world.

If I do a nandroid backup, then mess up my radio, I'm covered right?
Additional questions may pop up as answers arrive.
Thank you very much XDA community!:victory:

I've never had any trouble with the radios here on the Nexus 4. You have an OPTION to enable Band 4 LTE via some software mods but it's not necessary. Read up about this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358931
Also here is a master list of radios.

You'll find everything to be very easy to set up via TWRP and the community is pretty helpful as well.

Samsung have many radios for their devices because of the many carriers. Google Nexus 4 is carrier neutral and there is only one radio version which usually gets updated with the next android version. This is the least problematic device you could get in terms of radios, unlocking boot loaders, flashing stuff and Roms and support. You are not going to experience any issues with the things you intend to do with it.

Nandroid backups do not backup the radio. There really is no need for it.

I hated the S2 with all those modems. So confusing. Luckily, you don't have to deal with that on the Nexus 4. Any modem will work on the Nexus 4 as long as it's up to date with the OS. A hybrid modem with a combination of a older modem and new modem works flawlessly.

Ah thank you all for the clarification, my Nexus 4 is two days old and already updated to 4.4.2 stock. Thank you very much XDA community!
