What's best when using stock HTC Desire Z rom?

If it's for music only, Power Amp has a nice eq.

I use PowerAMP already (great program). I was asking about what software to use with a stock Desire Z rom (rooted) to increase the speaker volume for ringtones/etc.
Andre
i havent used this app since my hero, but i used to have LVH (loud volume hack) it increased the volume on the whole device and worked perfectly

Does the DSPmanager affect the speaker volume in general, or just specific things like audio?
The speaker and poor camera quality are the two achilles heels of the G2. If I could increase the volume of the speakerphone and rings, it would definitely boost my already deep love for the G2

I guess its hit or miss with the camera. I always get compliments on photos I've taken they always seem to come out very well. With DSP manager you can adjust the phone speaker some. I no I have my bass boosted and EQ up some on the phone speaker. My ring tones are certianly audible.

Ok I am coming from the Nexus S with Voodoo Sound and Picture and wow if you only knew how amazing Voodoo really is my biggest problem with my Nexus S was the in ear sound output. It was quickly remedied by the installation of PowerAmp, but that got old fast because although it sounds good its still not loud. I honestly want a phone that makes me have to turn the sound down so I don't blow my ear drums or cars speakers. I have amazing headphones iBeats by Dre to be exact and with Voodoo it made my phone sound amazing!!!!! But now i have the Evo 4G i need a upgrade ASAP. Post away with any incite regarding a sound driver kernel or app anything please and thank you.

Hey everyone,
I just installed the lastest Affinity and I must say I love it. One thing I was wondering was is there a way to increase the overall volume output to the headphones? It seems that the volume is quite a bit lower than other roms I've used. Any ideas?

did u try an equalizer?
i have power AMP, it has a built in equalizer that it good!
maybe try it?
Well the Rom come with a build in eq. I'll try power amp to see if that helps.
Thanks.

Power amp is really great.
You can have a pre-lockscreen to change tracks without unlocking and a lot of usefull options.
You can do a search on here for DSP Manager and flash it. But I never got it to flash properly (but other folks here have). Or you can download Volume+ from the Market (paid app), or free at the dev's website.
http://androidaudiohacks.com/?page_id=16
I believe DSP Manager is just an equalizer. Where Volume+ is an equalizer, but also boosts total volume. Its not a huge boost, but I found it helpful for Affinity.
Dsp manager is perfect for anything not miui. Not all sense roms will allow according to some peoples posts. Its always worked for me but I stopped using sense after siulmagics coredroid so that wouldn't be something to go off of.
Best advice is flash dsp manager and see if it works after busting a nandroid backup

- music player with an equalizer (power amp, mixzing, player pro). use the preamp slider to boost the volume
- app volume+, but in my case the sound was worst. More noise in my music...
- Good head phones with low impedance? Since the audio card on this phone isnt that bad, it worth it.
- Audiophile forums suggest you to add en amplifier if you have good headphone.
You can find some cheap one on newegg . com

Interesting, I didn't notice significant increase in noise. But I also play music in my car much more frequently than headphones. Or if its headphones, its usually doing something like running or doing yardwork. So it might just be I haven't noticed.
Of course, any sound amplification or equalization is going to also amplify noise as well, since its pretty much impossible to really isolate noise from music. Cutting some equalizer bands, while boosting others can help reduce noise.
Nice summary of options for the OP, too BTW.

so after buying the Z3 and expecting a great audio quality compared to my old lg p880, i was quite disappointed by the lack of bass.
To be completely fair i did have viper4android app on my old phone. this app requires root and thus i could not use it :crying::crying:
So after hours of research and testing i found the perfect solution.....
people behold: noozxoide eizo rewire PRO. i wont talk more about it as there is a full xda post about the app below:

what i like on this app is the very deep bass and crisp clear high tones  it makes me love this device as i did not like the z3 purely because music plays a big role for me.

I tried the settings above and my sound became lower than it was (at the 80/100 mark). I don't understand how this is even better. Are you talking about the sound coming out of the phone's speakers or to an external source or headphone? I'm listening from the phone's speakers itself.
Im talking about quality rather than volume, disable the first box where u selected unique II. And it should go back to original volume and still have a better bass @hanime

When you say "lack of bass" people are going to assume you mean there's not much bass, not that it's low quality. Not sure what low quality bass is, actually. On headphones, my Z3 is fine - very bassy if you have an equalizer to make changes to it. There's no inherent problem with the Z3 and bass. (It's just a shame they don't provide a way of beefing up the vibrate!)
Out of the box, the volume meter actually bugs me. At 50% the volume is so low. At 80%, it starts to sound like 50% on other phones. It gets really loud after that. So looking at it, it is like an extreme exponential graph at the 80% mark.

Funny that this thread popped to the top right when I was going to start a new thread.
Coming from the Rezound and DNA that had Beats EQ, and the iBeats headphones from the Rezound, I've had great portable audio for a long time. I got my S4 and used hacks in 4.3 to get Beats EQ in place with root, but 4.4 lost that ability. Luckily I stumbled upon Viper, which was pretty much perfect like the original Beats EQ once tweaked. That was my only real worry with going to this phone without root, is losing good audio. I was pretty disappointed at first, and had even tried Noozxoide in the past and didn't like the muddy bass it produced, and it was no better now on the Z3v.
Well, after a *ton* of tweaking and messing around and testing with various content, I've come up with a great set of settings for the stock EQ that are pretty darn good. Not Viper good, but will do for now until root is found. Here are the settings:
ClearAudio+ : Off
Sound effect :
Equalizer : Custom
400 : +1
1k : +2
2.5k : 0
6k : -2
16kHz : -1
ClearBASS : +8
Surround sound (VPT) : Studio
S-Force Front Surround : n/a (doesn't affect headphones)
Dynamic normalizer : Off
Headphones : STH-30
Keep in mind, these settings are for iBeats, which reproduce a tremendous amount of clean, deep bass but don't naturally produce it with a flat EQ setting. If your headphones aren't earbuds or have a lot of bass reproduction naturally, you might need to lower the 400/1k/ClearBASS a bit. YMMV based on your headphone quality, but be sure to try it at a low volume first so you don't blow anything!
My setting's
This gives me plenty of bass, and for more bass just lower the bars to the left more, mostly 400 and 1kHz.
Failing that download bass booster but you won't be able to use DSEE HX.

Guys, I have installed Noozxoide Eizo Pro but I hear no difference when I flick between it or audio settings in Sound.
I select it, then play with the various settings in the app and hear no difference.
I'm expecting audible changes between settings like when I play with the stock EQ.
I can't understand what everybody is going on about and I have decent headphones, Sennheiser Momentum On Ear.
Thanks,

Yay I'm not alone! Any help? I'm starting to feel that this echoes the story of the Emperor's New Clothes...
You know the one where the King was walking naked through the streets because he believed that he was wearing the most amazing new clothes, meanwhile he was butt naked...
Some of the people in this thread are using horribly cheap headphones, which is really making me question their ability to appreciate good Sound Quality...
Headphones that when I Google their model numbers cost 10-20 GBP.
Anybody who is happy with those, in my opinion, can't tell their ass from their elbow... When it comes to sound.

Feel free to test whatever changes you like to my settings, especially if you aren't using the same headphones as me. You won't risk breaking anything unless you blast high volume with cutoff. From my experience with my headphones, though, the STH-30 preset was the only one that still produced clean sound that was able to be adjusted with the EQ bands. The rest had noticeable artifacting or missing dynamic range on one end or the other.

Ok i'll stay with the STH-30 preset then
So which earphones / cans do you use to listen to music.
On a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best, how would you rate the audio quality?
Have you used ASUS earphones/headphones with ZF2?
Discuss!
I used NT100 in-ear (I buy the 550ML, lowest spec, so no quick-charger and earphone included)
Playing music with PowerAMP, customize EQ, Limiting activated. At highest volume, I didn't hear any clipping like my old phone. I usually use it at 50-60% volume.
Really, I have to say that I could not diffrentiate between phones audio output once Viper4Android is installed with same settings. No earphones with my ZE551 4Gb ... I think US version gets that removed.
p.s: Using Yamaha EPH-50 Gold earbuds.

No earphones with my 551ML either. Not that i would ever use them lol. I use a pair of Sony MDRs and it sounds alright, without Viper installed.

I am using monster beats + EXTREMEMusic + stock music app. Result is cool ?

Try Viper4Android?
The speaker on the Zenfone is pathetic. The tiny single speaker on my old phone (iPhone 5) is both louder and clearer. I got the ASUS headphones with my 550, but they are awful (I hate all inner-ear headphones anyway, but these sound very muddy and over-bassy and they keep popping out of my ears). Get much better sound through my old iPhone buds, which I always thought sounded good despite getting a lot of criticism. Max volume of the phone seems a little low to me, and reduces still further if you turn off the ASUS AudioWizard. I would like to try the phone with viper4android and some better headphones.
+1 ASUS AudioWizard is needed for proper sound. I wonder if there is a way to boost the speaker just like MTK devices ... The speaker is as big as the G3 yet the G3 sounds 2x louder. Boosted speaker with viper4android, its better than stock now.
It's not bad or about middle of the road for me. Primarily use aux (jack) for the cars. Bluetooth works fine. Speaker sucks. That's the best description. When I need to use Waze (nav app) I need to jack in or use bluetooth since you won't really hear it. 3.5mm audio jack and bluetooth are on the quiet side but the only improvement over the sub par speaker.
im using jabra step bluetooth headset with viper4android..makes me feel like partying in a club using SRS Audio (Extreme Trubass) convolver..
I'm going to echo @aziz07 - AudioWizard is necessary. If you've disabled it thinking it was bloat, go back and restore it or push it from a stock ROM.
After I had "cleaned up" the ROM, I had the most hollow-sounding audio: no bass, it was all harsh mids and treble. In my car, the woofers were barely engaging. Viper4Android did nothing except bring up the mids and make it sound even more hollow. That's when I realized there was something else EQ-related that was missing. I then restored AudioWizard and all was well.
The audio quality is good with this phone. It's a bit bass heavy (when things are default), but that's pretty objective and easily adjusted. Using cheap in-ear earphones, there's thump.
I don't think it sounds as dynamic as my LG G2, but I can't make a direct comparison since my G2 died.
I'm no audiophile, but I'm VERY pleased with the output quality at low to mid volumes.

I know , it sounded like an empty can of coke  I told SuperZen Rom maker that it gives more power mA to AUX port ; he added AudioWizard backin R12 release. Along with viper4andorid, it beats my R.I.P lg g2 (Started freezing randomly then would not boot anymore ; anyway it felt so cheap to beginning with and was overheating all the time 74C ; this Zenfone rarely exceeds 50C unless using the 18W quick charge, yet still ~55C ; I have seen my SoC go as low as 29C and battery 25C - Intel 3D 22nm Tri-gate transistors :good.
I use Yamaha EPH-50 Gold (13.6mm drive) + Viper4Android with Sennheiser HD800 settings lol + AudioWizard Music ; the bass is so powerfull that it gives me a headache and I have to lower it lol
using a Xiaomi Piston 2 + Shuttle+ here
I can say that the sound quality is HORRIBLE,like one of the worst i've ever experienced. It's so bad i am cosider buying a used 32gb iPhone 5c for $175 just to listen to music
haha My iphone 4 sound like crap versus the Zenfone with the settings and boosts mentioned above. Read earlier posts or stay with iphone 5c. Same crappy sound with iphone6+ and worse is that you can't mod them and use Viper4Android. Bass is many times more powerfull in my car's stereo and Harman-Kardon home theater BIC PL-200 system.
Sound quality for me is pretty good. I've tried it with some Panasonic RPTCM125K in ears, koss KSC75, Grado SR60, and a Bose Soundlink mini. The Panasonic's sounded decent, if a little muffled, but no different than what I remember when using them with other phones. The KSC75s sound great, and have decent clarity. I also use them over Bluetooth with this phone via a g-cord wireless audio receiver (purchased on amazon). They sound quite good that way as well, maybe lacking a little detail. The grados sounded excellent, so I use those when I don't need to be moving around. the Bose sounded somewhat muffled. I'm not sure if equalizer settings on the phone and Soundlink were working against each other or what. Although, the Soundlink mini seems to be a bit finicky with the surface that you place it on, and I had it resting on my kitchen table when using it, so maybe that's what was causing it.
Audio characteristics aside, and I'm no audio expert, the audio amplifier used in this phone seems quite capable. TPA2080D1, in case you're wondering. The full Bill of materials can be found at http://www.ewisetech.com/Pages/Product/bom.aspx?s=1961&dt=6820
Edit: I'm running with the audio wizard turned off. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if there's still some equalizer adjustment going on in the background.

Are you using Viper4Android? It made a big difference here even for the external speaker, use Vocal Boost and maxout everything but don't use speaker optimization. You can also apply this systemwide by deleting 2 paragraphs in /system/etc/audio_policy ; --> See Zenfone 2 Resources thread in viper4android section. After audio_policy modding for better V4A compatibility, Its working with Tunein radio, making crappy 32kbps radio stations sound much better, it will work with Youtube, etc
