[Q] GPS Post Update - Atrix 4G General

Is anyone experiencing longer lock times post update. Before the update I used to get a lock indoors within 5 seconds. Now it is taking about 2 mins to lock while driving (obviously outdoors)
I have updated and have root, with no other mods.

Yup, I experienced the same thing on few occasions I used it but not sure if it is repetitive in other locations. I need to try it more to confirm.

GPS issue

As title mentions, i get a weird GPS issue in which after abut 5 days of not soft resetting the Touch HD, TomTom has a harder time finding any GPS satellites.
It takes it almost 5-10 minutes to find a signal, and when it does, it keeps losing it.
If i soft reset the device, the signal is caught within 5 seconds regardless of the place or weather.
I originally thought it was to do with QuickGPS not being up to date but that wasn't the case since it just happened this morning and i had to soft reset and got a signal within 5-10 secs.
Anyone getting this problem for not soft resetting the device with 5 days or so?
I'm using the "Built in GPS Reciever" in the TomTom.

I had a similar problem with TomTom and GPS where it would connect for a few seconds then drop using the "Built in GPS Receiver".
My solution which has worked and never failed was to disable AGPS (not QGPS, the download for Satellites but AGPS which apparently assists in getting quick locks.
Now I have no problems, whether soft reset or mutliple open/close of the TomTom app.

Just noticed that today... weird ...I couldnt find an explanation.
Sorry, i forgot to mention that A-GPS is turned off.
It only happens if i don't soft reset it after a few days, then as soon as i do, it's back to working properly.
I don't know if this is a TomTom issue or something else.

Nah... It happend to me today with Garmin.. I thought something was going wrong with the OS ... I rebooted the OS and everything went fine.. Shouldnt happen anyway.
Which radio protocol do you have on your Touch HD? I have 1.09.25.14.
It doesn't make sense. What changes in those extra days of not rebooting to cause the GPS to act weird.
Hopefully WM6.5 doesn't do this anymore, but we need comments from people using other radios and other ROMS to see if it exists on theirs aswell.

Vibrant Google Maps Problem

I've had my Vibrant since launch day and coming from the G1, I'm absolutely blown away.
I do have on gripe though and that's with Google Maps.
At first, like many, I have/had GPS problems (poor/slow/no connectivity) which was seemingly somewhat corrected by the fix in this forum (thanks!).
I'm still having another problem though. About 1 out of every three times I open google maps, the phone begins to locate via GPS then freezes (zero functionality). A few seconds later the screen is black with the soft keys lit up. I've had this happen upwards of 20-30 times now. Holding the power button to kill the phone is necessary. The reason it seems like Google maps is not other GPS app has done this.
Today, using navigation, it was working good, until I lost GPS signal (due to river bluffs), and Maps never re-acquired the GPS signal, although a quick check using GPS status revealed a full lock. I had to close (task manager style) maps and re-do the navigation. Then it worked fine again until all of a sudden it locked like usual and completely froze. Hard re-boot, reopen maps, froze, hard re-boot, reopen maps, froze....and this happened 4 times before I was finally able to get in and kill the navigation request. Of course by this time I had missed my turn by about 2 miles.
I also thought it was latitude (before today's incident), since I had never used latitude on my G1; but the girlfriend got a Vibrant (her first smart phone) so we tried out latitude for kicks. But after trying it with Latitude on and off, there doesn't seem to be any ties as if will freeze both ways.
I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Maps updates three times now with no changes.
Talking with a guy at the T-Mo store today was no help, other than he said a fix was coming within days to correct the GPS connectivity issue. For my problem though, which the phone faithfully recreated in-store to him (much to my pleasure) he recommended a new phone.
I'm not too crazy about getting a new device or doing a master reset (since I've heard this has helped some folks), so I thought I would ask for any suggestions from this fine community.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
EDIT: Just enabled SkyHook out of curiosity, and I haven't been able to replicate this problem yet since doing so. Even doing an immediate operation upon opening Maps its ok. Inside house got a 10m lock withing 15-20 seconds every time. I'll keep trying it some more tomorrow.
I have the same exact problem and it just recently started... want to see if anyone else has a fix or an idea.

Same exact problem? Frozen with black screen shortly after opening?
Have you both tried a reset? This is due to the GPS because the phone will get overwhelmed when it can't get a GPS lock.
I have noticed when my wifi is on I cannot receive a gps lock. Once I turn off wifi the gps is functional and will lock quickly; ~10 secs. I still may only lock 2-3 satellites indoors and accuracy is about 20'.
Also I am using the stock GPS settings.

I had the issue with google maps and gps when turning gps on will freeze the phone and if it happened that the phone screen is locked you are sol.haven't had the issue since the reset though.

I had this problem as well. Maps and sometimes Navigation would lock up my phone entirely, just as you described. I did a Factory Reset and that fixed the freezing problem, but my GPS problem was still there. I finally did an exchange and the new phone seems to be working better. I'm crossing my fingers that it will remain that way.
Same exact problem here. It happens with and without the GPS fix applied. I think the only solution is to wait and hope Samsung addresses the bigger GPS issue as I am sure it is all related.

I have the exact same issues with my phone locking up.
I'm going to do a master reset when I get home from work. If that doesn't work, I'm going to exchange the device at T-Mobile (and hopefully extend my 14-day period, while we wait for the firmware fix).
I love this phone, but if these problems can't be fixed, I'll go back to the stone age.
I'll report back with the master reset / phone swap success rate on my end.
Ditto here. Happened to me last night.

+1 here. Although I never had a problem with Google Maps/Navigation. It's My Tracks that caused the phone to lock up when recording a track.

I have the same issue with "use wireless networks" enable. And wifi turned on... Something wrong with gps and wireless... I have applied the fix...
Now with wireless off I still have an issue:
Gps Test is taking 20-30 seconds when GPS has not been used in awhile. After the first lock, it then only takes 2-5 seconds for a lock.
So what's going with then initial lock?
yeah, the screen turns black and cant do anything... So Factory reset seems to fix the problem? is that the general consensus?
I have the same issue after doing a factory data reset. Just fyi.

Same here. Even after factory reset, it still does the black-screen crashing act. It's quite annoying. Actually, that happened to me while typing a text message. Samsung messed up royally. The software on this phone is pure trash. I really like this phone, but the issues are just pathetic.
I'm having the same problem on my Vibrant. It has happened before and after a factory reset, before and after the GPS fix. Without the GPS fix, I couldn't even lock onto a satellite. After running Google Maps for a few minutes, the screen goes completely blank. Sometimes, it would reset itself. Sometimes, I would have to hold the power button for a few seconds to get it to reboot. Hope they fix this soon. This makes the GPS completely useless for this phone.

I haven't tried the factory reset, but for everything else mention my vibrant has acted the same exact way.
I've had the same issue on both the pre-release ROM and the shipped ROM. As others have said, it seems to cause problems with all of the Google Maps-based apps (Navigation, Maps, and My Tracks). You loose signal and next thing you know, black screen with the buttons lit up.
I'm waiting for an opportunity to test it with Maverick and Trimble Outdoors to see if it's just a Google-app problem or not.
Also, a master reset (aka wipe) didn't influence it one bit. About the only thing I didn't try was removing the bundled-in maps apk and replacing it with a market one.
Report these issues!
+1 Just wanted to add that everyone should report this issue (and ALL others ie. compass, GPS, dropped calls) to T-Mobile and most importantly, Samsung. I am now on hold with Samsung level 3 tech support to update my issues with the phone. The more they hear from us, the more likely they are to come out with proper fixes in a timely fashion. If these issues stay on the forums and nowhere else, we're SOL. Do it now!
UPDATE: Eric, a L3 techie, was very appreciative of the info I gave him regarding the inaccurate GPS, GPS crashing, and compass issues. He did state that these were becoming common complaints. The compass issue was said to be less popular but he was able to reproduce the inaccuracies I and many others have, so that's a good thing. He did not have any info regarding a coming fix on anything. Regarding dropped calls (which could be a radio problem) he said, as I assumed, that it is probably a service issue that T-Mo should be notified of.
I and most others have no problems with dropped calls but the only time I get that dreaded screen is when I mess with lbstestmode

[Q] Nexus 10 wake-up lag

Got the N10 a few days ago and I noticed immediately a severe 5-7 sec wake-up lag. The delay is so long that instinctively, I always press the power button twice, believing the unit is powered down (the Xoom I owned before would wake-up almost instantaneously).
This problem is/was always present, even with the unit completely stock.
Other owners experiencing the same problem? What's your average wake-up delay?
Thanks,
---Mirco.
I usually have about a 1-2 second lag upon waking. It's a little annoying sometimes, but not too terrible considering how much I love the tablet.

I haven't noticed this issue at all with my unit.
I notice about 1-2 sec delay sometimes when waking my tablet.
I posted a video on YouTube that exemplifies the problem:
youtube . com / watch?v=sbjCi8K6kyY (the forum won't let me post links: remove the spaces to watch)
As you can see, from the moment I press the power button (sec. 5) and the moment the tablet wakes up (sec. 11) there's a full 6 seconds delay.
I've seen it on mine... It seems like the screen always ends up rotating when I see the lag.

Haven't figure it out yet: it started doing it right out of the box so I doubt it's some sort of software/configuration problem.
All I know is that it's driving me crazy and I'm ready to return the unit.

Best advice I can give is reflash the stock image from Google, instructions are available on here or on the android side itself, along with the image.

Did that, several times. Completely stock, bootloader locked/unlocked, rooted or not, it makes no difference: the 5-6 seconds wake-up delay is always there.
One thing I noticed: it disappear when the tablet is connected to my PC via USB cable. In this case wake-up time is the normal 1-2 secs.
I've just noticed the same issue. Mine can work fine for a few unlocks and then it will flash the unlock screen for a split second and go black. After reading the other posts on here, I left it for a while and 25 seconds later (tested three times now), the unlock screen appeared properly, enabling me to enter my pin and use the device. If I didn't enter the pin, after a couple of seconds of inactivity, the screen would power off as per the normal 30 timeout for pin entry.
If this is another hardware fault, I think I'll have a little cry First my Nexus One had digitiser issues, then power button problems (both times replaced/repaired under warranty). The Galaxy Nexus had 5GHz wifi issues and the Nexus 7 had bezel lifting issues...
**UPDATE**
As soon as I posted this, I remembered I'd recently installed LightFLow to get my notifiction lights for emails like my GNex has with CM10. I uninstalled it and tried again. After 30 power off/on cycles I haven't had one instance of it having the unlock delay...Seems connected in my opinion (in my case anyway).
I see nobody else here remembers having to wait for radio's or tv's to "warm up" before using them 1-2 seconds? HAHA, yeah, terrible lol I'm not talking just the 30's to the 60's here, I mean the 70's and 80's, I'm 41 Maybe those of us my age and older appreciate the tech now the most, because we've seen it progress so much from where it was.

[Q] Display sleep time resetting automatically, please help

Hi everyone, my Nexus 4 that I have been using for last 3 weeks now has this problem that has been baffling me, I have tried everything to figure it out but no solution.
I set 30 seconds as Display sleep time but it gets reset back to 15 seconds randomly either after a charge or after some hours of standby. I have no idea why this is happening. I have no Battery Saver apps installed. Have BatteryBot Pro installed, it only tells the battery status and no battery save settings in it. Had removed BatteryBot Pro and tested for few days, still happening. So its not that. Any way of knowing why its happening. I did even try a factory reset one week back, still happening.
Please HELP.
i have no idea what you are asking. display sleep time? what is that? what are you trying to do?

4.2.2 Stock ROM, Unrooted no modifications at all.
I searched in lots of forums, no one has this problem so I suspect maybe some App causing this. How to figure out which app?
i tried, rasbean jelly rom, and it works fine on 30 seconds and 1 minute.
---------- Post added at 03:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:07 PM ----------
do you have any battery improvements apps? ironically, battery improvement apps use the battery juice that they are supposed to save.
I saw the same thing happen to my buddy's Galaxy S3 on 4.1.1
We have not been able to nail down the cause yet. It just randomly reset to 15 seconds and we don't know exactly when or why
I will continue to monitor his situation and add any info I come up with here
I do not have any such battery saver apps. Only have Battery Bot which just gives battery percentage, earlier had battery widget reborn, even with it had the same problem.
I have Avast antivirus installed and also Lightflow. I have now my doubts on these two. Lightflow I have had since Day 1 and this problem has been since the very beginning.
get rid of the antivirus app android does not need it. if someone says the opposite, they just dont know.

I have it only for the anti-theft features. They work pretty good and had kept it installed only for it. Shall remove it and check if the problems persist, although I installed it only last week and doubt its related to this. Shall give it a shot now.
Edit- I have uninstalled Avast now. Shall monitor now if anything is better.
After having removed Avast yesterday still the problem is persisting. Had this incident twice today. Any ideas how to resolve it??
Still having this problem. No idea what's causing it!
Also my phone has switched off automatically twice yesterday. And to switch it on required me to press the power button for 10 seconds. Otherwise it failed to switch on. Battery was around 70% when it switched off . Any clues for these problems??

@abhishekagrawal I am having the same problem on a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 running a custom ROM. Although mine doesn't get reset to 15 seconds, per se. It somehow gets set to something much shorter, like maybe 5 seconds. When I go into the menu in settings, none of the options are selected and I have to re-select 30 seconds.
Did you ever figure out what was causing your problems? I assume it has to be some sort of app conflict. Maybe a lock screen widget?

Issues like that if these issues are only with you,it means that It's always some App messing with your phone
Same problem
I am also having this issue. Mine resets and I can't figure it out. I'm totally stock rooted on Nexus 4 running 4.2.2. I had the same problem after the 4.2 update.
I just unrooted and did a full factory reset and I still have the same problem.
Also having this problem on a stock Nexus 4 on Android 4.4.4, not rooted.

Same issue here, nexus 7, 4.4.4, unrooted, stock. No apps that I know of would be causing this. For me, I set the timeout time to anything other than 15 seconds. It will work with whatever I set it to, and even keep on restart, but the first time it reaches that timeout amount it will reset back to 15 seconds. I've tried just setting it to 30 minutes, with the idea I'd never actually reach it, but it also seems to randomly reset as well. It's driving me crazy.
I had the same problem since my Samsung Galaxy W. Never found the reason (default rom).
Now after a couple of years with Xperia Z. Still happening, came back to the forums and no answer.
However, I just found out in my case: the low battery mode was the problem.
Everytime the phone goes below 20%, the low battery mode will switch the screen off after 15 seconds. But it fails to restore to its original value after the phone is charged. I have changed the settings to "adapt to device settings" and so far it's worked.

Troubleshoot Random Resets?

Hello
I'm getting 1-2 restarts almost daily, and what is consistent is that the phone will short-vibrate once, then a pause of about 8 seconds, then two quick short-vibrates in succession (about .25 sec apart) and then the phone restarts.
This can happen when in my pocket, it can happen while actively using it, can also happen when just sitting there on my desk with screen on. I haven't seen a pattern regarding app use or activity triggering the restart.
I posted a question a month ago about how people with Androids can troubleshoot restarts. There HAS to be a way (app, etc) that allows you to see crashlogs **without** rooting your phone. Yet, I got no replies here to my last post.
Is this really such a hard thing to do with Android? Please, tell me if I'm wrong and missing something completely obvious. I'm right now factory resetting my phone cause I can't figure what's causing this.
Thanks in advance for the help.
I have the some.
Any once have fix for this random reboots ?
Same problem at any moment. And sometimes it stays at a boot loop.
I have changed the firmware to a custom one and the problem persist.
