I've got the canadian market RETAIL nexus S in hand ATM moment, North american 3g, working GPS even without WiFi assistance... All the good stuff.
So, who wants what files and where do you want them?
I'm sure galaxy S i9k owners are going to go nuts for this stuff.

Does it have the SAMOLED or SLCD display? That would make a difference to ROMs and drivers, no?
Recalibrated SAMOLED. A million times nicer than the SGS series screens.
you going to dump the device and provide us with the build.prop?
Is it any different than the 2.3.3 already out?
What 3G bands does it have?
Thanks.

Recalibrated S-AMOLED sounds like Super Clear LCD. Quality is the same, except for blacks and the fact that S-AMOLED is more oversaturated...

Compared side by side with my SGS from Telus, it's night and day, seriously. All the SAMOLED shortcoming aside from the sub pixel problem are fixed. No more blue/green whites, no more overly cold colors... It's awesome.

That sounds great. I may need to pick this up. I noticed a white version and from the pics from Nergi Electronics, it looks like the white smothers the entire phone except for the front glass..? I though I saw a pic of the white model with only the white covering the back half of the device..? I think the full white from Nergi's site (pics) is ugly. Sticking with the full black. 0mega1, do you know if this version does 720p video record..? Also, here is the link to the white.. Ugly if you ask me.

Ok i just picked up the samsung nexus s from Wind, and it looks dead in comparison to my samsung captivate! the colors look tinted. the white looks grey.
and the brightness at full does not come close to the captivate. does this mean Wind is selling the slcd version? According to gsm arena the nexus s i9020a also known as i9020t is a slcd and not super amoled.

Definitely not slcd on your wind NS, here is the NS google.ca page:
http://www.google.ca/nexus/#/tech-specs throw on a black background and have a look at the screen in a low light room if you aren't convinced.
The colour profile apparently changed on GRI54 which is loaded on our phones, you can revert to the old colour profile using http://android.modaco.com/content/g...-colour-revert-superboot-rooting-the-nexus-s/ on the stock rom or by running CM7 or probably other roms.
Edit: here is a better explanation of the colour issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971987

I have the Rogers/Bell/Telus version and the Super-AMOLED display is quite good by itself. In a side by side it's not quite as sharp nor as colour accurate as the Desire with S-LCD, but it's close enough to not bother complaining in typical use. I do notice the Nexus isn't as saturated as previous designs which is a good thing because prior displays were way too saturated and didn't look at all natural. I also notice the Nexus is better in direct sunlight than the Desire, and the auto brightness works a lot better.
and the brightness at full does not come close to the captivate.

Go into the Display settings and turn off Automatic Brightness and it'll be a lot brighter. It's one of the brightest displays I've ever seen on a phone, substantially brighter with very strong contrast than the Desire. If not, then something is wrong with your phone's display.

Ok, I just recived my second Incredible replacement after the first on had a light red to the white balance verses my original. This second has the same. I notice the contrst is a touch less then the original and the black doesnt seem quire as dark at time when compairing. Also one positive is that it seems a little brighter also thatn the original that I know us amoled. How can I tell if they switched to the Sony super tft display? Its not a huge deal just disapointing after getting used to the amoled. I personaly like that displays color balance better. Just want to knoe why these screens are different.

Im not positive how to tell if its changed or not but I do know that they did get rid of the AMOLED because of the shortages.
From what was announced only the nexus one and desire ee changed to slcd not the incredible.
My gf got a new replacement and hers has a purpleish tint to it when the brightness is low. A lot more noticeable then my phone. Looks like AMOLED though. The blacks are black.

HTC has publicly stated quite the opposite. The N1 and Desire switched to SLCD, but they have no immediate plans to switch the Incredible due to the change in the aforementioned two handsets alleviating the shortage.
htc was originally gonna switch incredible to SLCD, they never stated they WERENT gonna switch it due to affirmed Nexus and Desire switch though.

Look closely at the pixels for the pentile arrangement, if the edges of straight lines look like dotted lines, its still AMOLED. A good place to see it is to pull down the notification shade, and look at the edge of the O where it says Ongoing, with the pentile matrix on the AMOLED screen you can tell the O is jagged and not smooth.
Was wondering this too, my little brother just got an incredible and it looks fine in sunlight like my evo when they are both at full brightness. I also noticed that like the evo, on HTC.com the type of screen is not listed, just says touch sensitive display. Just last week it said amoled. He just got the phone this past Wednesday, the hardware version is 002.
After many phonecalls and internet research I found out they did change the screen to slcd. The sku with vw2 notes this. The amoled defintly has a better color balance but if you did know this you might not notice. Shame I think I am sticking with my original even thought the switch can be flakey at times.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
002 is the normal amoled. BTW, VZW got a froyo build that listed "LCD support" in the change logs, so they are at least preparing for the switch in case it ever does come.

I'm on 3rd (hope last) inc due to warranty issues. Second was brand new, but had to wait due to backorder in June.
This latest one was a refurb, but looks and acts like a new one. I had some initial concerns, though. Just like the earlier poster, this has a purplish tint on the grays when using a setting dimmer than about 50%. I may not have noticed it if I hadn't had the other ones first. It's noticeable, but something I can live with. In any case, the display is crisp and clear, and the effect goes away as the brightness is turned up.
Awesome phone; even better thanks to XDA forums.

Too bad Samsung is holding those internally for up to a year in their own phones. By the time they release SAMOLED screens to other companies they've probably got something better already.
I don't worry about AMOLED vs sLCD because I got one of the engineering prototypes with AMOP technology (Active-Matrix Organic Plasma). Makes the production-run screens look like etch-a-sketch by comparison!
I'll be skruud if I ever brick it tho
I can't believe how fantastic it looks compared to LCD. I'm a huge fan of saturated colors (I crank up digital vibrance on my computer), and now my EVO's LCD just looks washed out. Anyone else who switched from LCD to this?

^ When there's black on the screen, it's hard to tell where the screen stops and the casing begins! And when the phone is turned off, it just looks like one sexy slab of obsidian.
I ended up taking back my MT4G because I couldn't stand the washed out colors on the screen. The G2's SLCD was fantastic, but the SAMOLED on this absolutely blow it out of the water.

Screen is great, but it's too bright! Was at TRON Legacy midnight showing last night, after the movie, the lights were still down, I turn on my phone and blinded myself! Even manually set to 0% it's way too bright. Makes it hard to use the phone at night when you're laying in bed reading the news.
Heh, you should rip an Avatar DVD and watch it on the SAMOLED. T-Mobile knew what it was doing when it packaged the movie with the Vibrant, because it's an absolutely jaw-dropping combo. My iPhone 4-owning friends are just blown away when I show them movies on my Vibrant.
I lick my super amoled when I am in the bathroom and no one can see me.
Coming from MT4G ( and the inferior screen too ) It's really a big difference.

Look at it.
The major difference is when looking at the image with black background.
As SAMOLED has unlimited contrast, black is totally black.
only the russian nexus s models have slcd. can't find the link to the article, but I remember reading about this.
edit : here's the article http://androidcommunity.com/nexus-s...d-in-russia-instead-of-super-amoled-20101207/
OMG!!!!!!!! noooooooo, i hate it when the manufacture process changes half way through the release of a product (example HTC Desire)
i'm glad our batch in USA has SAMOLED.... but what will happen after if we need to send in our for repair? are we going to lose the SAMOLED to be replaced with a Sony LCD ? like they did with the Desire?
ewww....
i think i'd rather go back to a Tmobile Vibrant if that ever happens
Well slcd has it benefits. First you get regular RGB pixels instead of ugly Pentile. Second LCD's are not prone to "burn in" and shioter life of amoled. There are toms of threads about samoled burn in and rapid dimness.

You think so?
They can't write Super AMOLED on the specs and sell a LCD, can you add some pictures of the screen?
I'd be surprised if you have a slcd screen! When the phone is off does your screen have a dark blue(ish) tinge to it? It does look different from a simple amoled screen, did some one tell you from carphone warehouse that it was scld?
This is very unlikely, surely?
As someone has said, the SAMOLED screen is one of the major selling points. If it didn't have it, I'd probably stick with my Desire HD!
It's almost like swapping in a 600mhz CPU and selling it.
Are you sure it is SLCD?
Do we have a really solid way to check this?
Probably by using image with different shades of black? Then turn the contrast to max or something.
Post comparison photo with your HTC Desire please ...

I've noticed this as well... that is of you didn't get one with the ugly yellow/grey tint screen. I'm on my 6th sns and this one has the best amoled screen I've ever seen. I went through a few vibrants and ended up with a pretty nice one there too but there's no comparison with the particular nexus s. It even looks better than my buddy's fascinate which has a better screen than any vibrant I've seen or owned. Whites on this phone are awesome and very neutral with barely any tint at all. Even at its lowest brightness setting I don't have any purple or pink on the status bar pull down. Even on my phones that didn't have this exact quality screen still were great looking amoleds.

I switched from the Sprint Epic to the Nexus S and i have to agree, my epics screen just didn't look as good as the nexus one did. On the epic i would normally set the brightness to halfway and it looked decent but on my nexus i leave it on auto and regardless of where i am it looks amazing. I don't know why but it does look better
So I take it, Super Amoled's are not all the same. I think they don't tell us this because of business reasons. Besides, I think it would be cool to know the name of my Nexus S screen cause I know for a fact the Nexus S has the best Amoled display out there.

My guess is that they use the same basic technology but given the time between release dates some new parts or processes may have gone into the making of the Nexus S screens. The Nexus S definitely has a Super Active-Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (SAMOLED) but just looks slightly better. Heck it might even be due to the Contour Display (as it is called), who knows?

Hell I like the screen on this phone even more than the one on the galaxy s 2. The galaxy s 2's screen just doesn't look as nice and the colors are weird. Maybe its cause of that blueish tint. And the low resolution on that bug of a screen? Eww

Older phones like the HTC HD2 couldn't match our phones AMOLED display, but when your talking about the new Galaxy S2, or even a phone like the HTC Amaze both have fascinating displays.
I've compared them side by side and i personally think our phones have more of a yellowish tint that isn't so great.

You shouldn't be comparing a new phone to an older phone in the first place, chances are the new one will always be better.

This is true, but call me crazy I thought my G2 had a better display. and the HTC Evo was pretty sweet..
It's just something about this offset yellowish tint. The whites never seen pure, although i'll give it the black is definantly more black than an LCD.
don't you guys have voodoo control center to tweck colors?
