Hey guys, just curious since I havent gotten a chance to use a rooted phone yet.
-When google comes out with 2.2 froyo update, are we able to update it from a rooted rom or does it have to be under stock condition?
+1. will be going from cyan to stock again when froyo comes out. but how?
You'd probably have to wait until someone post the stock rom of froyo, and then flash that.
Or flash on of the numerous stock ROMs that already exist, and get OTA like the rest of us.
Or wait for cyan for his release which I believe will be soon after the official release.
You will have to wait until either someone posts a stock 2.2 ROM that world with rooted phones or someone like cyanogen updates.
Once a different recovery is installed on the phone, the OTA system will never work again. Not even if you go back to stock.
This is a complete non issue. The stock 2.2 rom may very well be available to flash here before you recieve the ota if its a rolling release. If not it will be a close race. BTW, The ota looks for a stock officially signed recovery to install itself with, if you do not have one the ota will fail.

Just out of interest (I am not making any judgements), why do you want to go from CM to stock as opposed to a CM modded version of 2.2?
Or are you just assuming 2.2 will drop before CM has time to mod it so want to get on it asap?
ill just wait for cyano to release its froyo version...
I'd be willing to bet that the features present in 2.2 will reach a version of CM before they reach any non-rooted N1. I'm just saying... we already have some of the features currently, i.e. customizable trackball notifications.
that really just depends on when google pushes the sources of 2.2 into AOSP. so chances are that a stock 2.2 will be available sooner than a cyanogen 2.2, but it will be worth the wait

That's not true. I did a warranty replacement a while back and restored the phone to stock before sending it back. I used the SAPPIMG.zip method to restore the shipping ROM, recovery, and radio. After rebooting and setting up the phone, I was offered the OTA update and the OTA completed successfully. Being bootloader unlocked did not affect my ability to get OTA updates.
A little confusion here it seems and I will throw out my understanding. An ota will work if it does not have to access an officially signed recovery, if it does and does not find one it will fail. Once you have installed a custom recovery going back to the stock one will not help in this regard because it is no longer officially signed. 2.2 will require an officially signed recovery to install and everything I read says it will be seen, it will download, then it will fail to install. If this is incorrect than I look forward to learning more about this question as it keeps popping up over and over. I have yet to hear from any owner who was able to update from 2.0 to 2.1 after having installed a custom recovery, seems like there would have been many....
ok, so currently i am on flyx 2.2 based on teh leak. i would like to update to the official or a rom based off it. so i am assuming i have to sbf to 2.1, ota to 2.2, then flash a custom rom? do i have to sbf? i thought i read somewhere it would be possible to update leaked 2.2 to official with a custom rom. so yeah, just before i get started i wanted to make sure i was doing the right things and no unnecessary steps.
thanks for the help.
really? 56 views and no one knows? i know it's not the smartest question, and really i am just trying to confirm that i need to sbf to get to 2.2?
Can do it both ways but one you go official you can not flash back to 2.1.
I personally suggest flashing then getting the ota. After that apply which ever rom you like. I'm sure others have diffrent opinions.
Good luck either way

So I have a quick question. I have a rooted DX still on 2.2 leaked (not official). I have the bootstrap and Clockwork updated as well as busybox. I also have the BlockModz status bar from ROM manager installed. So here is my question.
Can I .sfb back to 2.1 and not cause any issues or do I need to do something to get me back to STOCK 2.1 . Any help would be appreciate. Thanks Nick
If you have never applied the 2.2 official OTA update then I believe you can sbf back to 2.1. However, I think you need to make sure you wipe data and cache after the sbf completes. You should be able to search for the complete procedure to sbf back to 2.1 from 2.2 leak.

I know how to flash back to 2.1 with sfb using lite4.7 . I have no issue with that. I just have never done it after installing a custom ROM so I wanted to make sure the ROM wouldnt cause any issues.
Hey all, been traveling around the world for a couple months and now that I'm back my poor DroidX needs some ROM lovin =)
I currently have RubiX 1.6, Android 2.2, System Version 2.3.15.
I've been reading and reading all the forums and I'm getting a little confused on what my upgrade path should be. Some have said I can just do the OTA update and it should work, others have said to do an SBF back to 2.2 Vanilla, then OTA, then root and ROM to rubiX 1.90 or whichever I would like.
I dont feel like the OTA would work with mine, but I would love to hear what xda thinks. Im on info overload right now, read too many posts by too many people that dont seem to know wtf they are talking about =)
I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong...) But if you are running a custom rom, most devs recommend an sbf before updating just to reduce the chance of additional problems when trying to update.
I don't think you can pull the update with your current setup and have it install correctly as rubix has stripped out some bloatware I believe.
I would recommend using the full 2.3.15 sbf and a factory wipe. Be sure to create a nandroid backup before all this and backup any apps/data you would like to save as well

I'm runng rubix 1.9 on 2.3.15...
Best bet would be to look at the thread for the most recent version (or version you are looking top update to) as the dev well usually include a path for updates... could be wrong, but I feel like this is somewhat common

Perfect, thanks, just need to search more!

No problem. Just make sure before performing an sbf for 2.3.15 version, that that is tryout actual version and your bootloader version is 30.03

Hey,
I'm coming from a rooted Thunderbolt and I understand a bit about flashing different roms, but this seems different.
My little brother decided that he wanted to update his Froyo X to the leaked gingerbread before it was rooted. Well, he did. But now he's getting random reboots and wants to either move back to Froyo or just move to something stable. What exactly needs to be done to do this?
Like I said, I have a rooted thunderbolt so I was exposed to using adb to get root. Would the process be similar in this case? Also, is there a way to flash back to Froyo without doing a full data wipe? He said he didn't do a wipe when he installed gingerbread.
Do a search on how to SBF for the Droid X. You can "sbf" back to stock froyo and reroot with z4root app. From there, he can upgrade to stable rooted GB or stay at froyo. If you'd like to know how to upgrade to a rooted version of GB, visit mydroidworld.com and there's lots of info there on how to do so and all the files you need.
