Ive been looking for the rom that benchmarks 15 MFLOPS on the Linpack... Anyone know what Im talking about or where to get it?
That is just the basic OTA 1.6 rom released by T-mo..
Theres no way a stock rom is that fast... A stock nexus/desire isnt near that...

well you look at the fingerprint attacked to it and tell me what it says. Everyrom has one and that aligns with an OTA. it may have been run through and Emulator but fingerprints don't lie thats why they're there.
anyone can change a build.prop or change whatever they want inside a rom... if you read all the G1/dream runs one says -eclair but DRC83 1.6-(DRC83 is donut) and another says -825.6MHz passion 2.1 rom-(I didnt know we could clock that high)
Im just wondering if there are some super roms in someones closet we might get to see one day or if some lil chinese guy (sorry for the stereotype) is doing great things we dont know about
BUMP?
should I ask this in dev section so ppl actually read it?
While glancing around at Milestone forums, I saw this: http://code.google.com/p/milestone-overclock/
On the front page it says: (bold is really all you need to read )
Other phones
In theory this technique is perfectly feasible in any Android phone, and will surely work in phones based on Texas Instruments OMAP3. You may say it's unneeded if you can use custom firmwares with overclocking enabled; but you must flash a specific kernel to get a particular speed. It would be much better to be able to set any maximum frequency/voltage on the fly without flashing or rebooting. For instance, you could overclock to 1.0 GHz before a browsing or gaming session and then return to a lower frequency like 600 MHz, though still overcloked, for battery savings and safety. It's up to you. And that's what this project enables. You'd have to port the kernel module over to the new kernel; I've written a detailed howto in the Disassembly page explaining this.

We have a phone with an OMAP3, so it may even work out of the box. Otherwise, it looks like it'd take a knowledgeable person to get it running, but we got plenty of those anyway! <3
Root is required of course, but from articles I've read, it looks like root should come? This could be very cool!
Great find!

sorry guys but from what i read in the general tab of the forums and from a couple other resources it sounds like it is very unlikely that we will ever see custom kerns. on the droid x because of the hardware e-fuse that is in place on the phone in combination with the boot loader being locked down tighter than a virgin on prom night because if you "trip the fuse" the phone will hardware brick meaning a new piece of hardware will need to be installed by moto in order for the phone to become operational again and we all know flashing custom kerns. void your manf. war. so it seems like moto has made this phone to much of a liability to even dev for SAD DAYS i wanted one so bad so ill wait and see if the fuse gets cracked (xbox 360 I know way different just my light at the end of the tunnel) GL DEVS AND THANKS IN ADVANCED FOR ALL THE WORK YOUR ABOUT TO DO

Uhm... you didn't read the site... we need root and only root for this particular method of overclocking. Not NAND access.
I don't think it should be too difficult to port the Milestone Overclock project to the Droid X (they've done brilliant work, by the way ). At the least, changing the address we provide to the module, and at the most, doing a bit more reverse engineering.
Either way, if a straight port is not possible, adjusting the current method will almost certainly work. The whole point of a LKM is to extend or modify an existing kernel without the need to reflash it. We just need root.
I wish I could convince people to just refuse to buy phones with locked bootloaders. Ideally, everyone would buy Nexus Ones in vast numbers and force manufacturers to make fastboot oem unlock a standard.

Original Moto Droid has the same "eFuse", aka M-Shield. All OMAP's have it:
http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wt...lateId=6123&navigationId=12316&contentId=4629
Now, the locked bootloader is another issue. But that should only affect loading of custom ROM's.

sure i did it says it changes info in the kern so couldnt that trip the efuse because we dont know if it will look at proc frequency when you boot so if you where to change the values in the stock kern then in theroey there is a good chance that it could trip the fuse im no dev just seems like common sense
I wonder who's going to be the first person to try?

No, you're just wrong. I don't know what I'm talking about here, but you said in exact words: "it is very unlikely that we will ever see custom kerns". This is NOT a custom kernel. Secondly, I really doubt the eFuse is live monitoring the variables (I assume that's what it changes?) in the kernel (assuming it does infact change variables w/ in the kernel). Nothing of Motorola's would be overwritten with this (I think). I can't imagine the eFuse really does that much, if anything (which is coming to arise). Maybe someone else can shed some light on this, because like I said, I'm purely guessing.
EDIT: Whoa, SetCPU maker above me??? Hi.
I'm pretty sure you do need a custom kernel to overclock the only reason its possible on the Droid stock kernel is that the kernel on the Droid is rated at 600mhz stock but UNDERCLOCKED to 550 mhz. So we could overclock the stock one since it was already possible, just underclocked

Nah, I just released my overclock method.

well i guess i just dont get the concept of an efuse from what i have read it checks the frequency of the proc on boot but w/e has anyone tried this yet does it work i would love to see this phone oc'ed and for the god that made setcpu thank you and my donation better have bought beer lol

Dude. Punctuation. Please.
Im overclocked right now.

Highjacker jack, what r u OC'd too? Also im not a benchmark head like some, but what if any differences are u seeing as far as quadrant, linpack? Mainly quadrant bc if it is higher is will likely process 3d graphics better, this cud b interesting after a good bit of trial and error bc te D1 can almost triple its clock speed, i know that this isn't entirely plausible and we are dealing with something that we cannot put custom roms on but i was just curious. Thanks

1.26 Ghz. Around 3-5 more in linpack. Broke 1400 in quadrant.
3D graphics performance is definitely better.
Most people can't even get to 1.2 stably. I must've gotten lucky with my phone.

Running great at 1150000 and 72. 10+ on linpack, stable. Thank you guys. Excellent. Now, I could give 2 **** about the locked bootloader. OC was all I wanted
Hey everyone,
I have the EVO 4g, and I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to consider rooting. The risks are a little scary as I would rather not get pooched and have to pay out the butt if something were to happen to my phone. So.. I'm wondering, should I root?
What are the benefits?
What is the best ROM in your opinion? Best for battery and function (meaning, I don't want to have to turn everything off for 30 hours of battery life). I'm currently using Launcher Pro Plus and I love it. Just wondering what my options are and what the XDA community thinks.
Why root.

Rooting now is very simple, it is no longer a complicated process that will take you 30min. I was in the same mind frame as you before I rooted, but I have to tell you that it was a great thing for me. After seeing the difference between my phone (stock HTC EVO) and my friends rooted EVO (running CM6) I was blown away. Rooting basically gives you complete control to customize you phone. I then rooted my phone and went straight to CM6 (Cyanogen Mod 6). It is fast and has quite a few options that you just cant get without rooting. There are quite a few apps out there that are only available to the rooted phone. I also was not a big fan of sense, or the huge boat load of apps that Sprint had installed on my phone and was able to get rid of them when rooting. The only advice I can really give to you is to explore the XDA Forums, see the benefits of each ROM, and all the words that you dont know, find the definitions for and things will make more sense. There is a lot of nomenclature here. I am currently running Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS1. It is a sense based ROM with a different theme. I hope this was helpful.

Thanks for your response!
I have a couple of questions for you (or anyone else willing to answer):
1) I know rooting voids the warranty, but does unrooting make the warranty functional again? Can they tell that it's been rooted before?
2) I've been reading around and I've seen people simply go to unrevoked on their EVO, then root that way within a few minutes. I've also seen people connect it to their computer, install drivers, etc. Which is best? Are they the same basic principle, but one doesn't take as long?
3) I've been looking at Myn's TPT and I really like it. But I'm wondering how many hours I could get out of the battery using that rom. I'm also wondering what the best way to update that rom (when an update is released) is?
Thanks again! I look forward to getting the ball rolling and getting all the awesome features that my phone should include in the original pricetag!

Rooting with unrevoked is just a simple way of rooting. All the commands are entered for your automatically rather than manually using a comand prompt to flash images etc.
Alright, I did it. Used unrEVOked, and so far so good. I'm sticking with stock 2.2 for now until I can do enough research on quality ROM's.
I do have an additional question though..
I purchased SetCPU, but I've noticed that I can't "overclock" above 998mhz. Why is that? Isn't the processor a 1ghz? I wouldn't really consider that overclocking :-/
How do I get pass that so I can actually overclock it a little?

Only certain kernels allow you to overclock. Most custom ROMs come with custom kernels that allow you to overclock. You can also flash different kernels over a custom ROM. Just make sure that particular kernel is compatible with the ROM you are using.

Wireless tether is enough of a reason to root for me. Try Ava. If you like Sense, you will love Ava. You will notice it is MUCH faster.
I'm about to give my friend my GT540. He has never had a smartphone before, and knows next to little about computers. If he has a problem, he is going to come ask me about it. I'd rather he didn't have a problem.
With that being said, I want to give him the best performance as possible.
Should I return it to stock or is there a 2.1 custom rom that is extremely stable and idiot proof?
I will leave it rooted, repartitioned, and maybe overclocked to 700 or 800MHz.
I'm also looking for a good set of toggles/switches to put on the homescreen, and anything else that will keep him out of the settings menu. Any ideas?

A custom or official 2.1 would work best (custom for overclocking), as it has no CM7 settings that can mess up your phone. I recommended Widgetsoid from the market (free version) for a toggle widget for EVERYTHING.

I'm brand new to the world of rooting and i honestly just wanted the wifi tether and the setcpu. While i was able to acquire the wifi tether i have no clue how to get a kernel for setcpu. Any suggestions?
Welcome to the world of rooting.
First off, I'm not sure there's a good answer to your question as far as I'm aware of. I'd recommend reading through these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1333251 and http://setcpu.com/

gonna second your motion of reading into it because even after a year and a half with my evo i still dont think i could give you an honest answer of my favorite kernel.. each has there plus's and minus's that you almost need to flash and see which feels the best for you.
but to throw my two cents on kernels out there for any aosp roms Tiamat 3.3.7 or 4.1.0 and sense i really like chop suey and the newer anthrax kernel atm but as i said my mind can change from rom to rom
thanks for the help. It gave me a better understanding of things, but one more thing is bothering me. Whenever i enter rom manager to download things it says my htc evo is not rooted...yet my phone is set to s-off. What can i do to fix this?
are you getting the super user request when you started it up? often thats the check to see if you are rooted by an app
(not a dev so i dont know if thats the only way or what the deal is)
