I've tried every overclocked kernel in the Tab Android Development forum. Each one freezes. Has anyone with any AT&T tab to work with an OC/UV Kernel?

Does it always freeze, or only if you overclock?
Regards,
Dave
I have overcome 1.3.0 on an att tab. I use CPU Master Free (from market) and set to max 1200mhz - no other settings. I basically just leave it at 1.2. I haven't really observed that the cpu frequency has actually hit 1.2. For me, overcome has been very good, even before 1.2.
I have had one freeze issue using the ff camera. This required a hard reset (power button pressed for like 10 seconds). I had recalled an uptime of 193hrs sometime (it could have been a day earlier when I checked) prior to this hang. Upon reboot, no problems even using ff camera. That hang was 23hrs ago; things have been very stable.
I have had overcome 1.3.0 for about 2 weeks.

You misunderstand!
I'm asking if it only freezes when you actually overclock?
For example, I am running an overclockable kernel, but I'm not overclocking!

It freezes in both states OverClocked and NonOverclocked.
The only versions which were stable were the Non-OC releases.

Hey guys,
I've lost track on all the roms out there. So I hope you guys could help me finding a fast and battery optimized rom.
I'm currently using Darky's ROM, which is kind of nice,
but uses to much battery for me (only have 1.5 days).
I don't care about any special feature... just speed, market showing all apps and long battery life. Anything else is a nice to have...
thanks for your help
Hi,
Ive tried them all, but get best battery on darkyy 5.5, with voodoo advanced 1.1 oc 1200 kernel.
Dont know why but it is awesome!

how often do you need to refresh your battery?
And what is special about this kernel?

lol! How can you get the best battery when you overclock!?
I'm now running JPY stock and I think you get the best battery life by using the stock kernel (no overclock, no other filesystem like ext4). It's plenty fast as well...

Theres a good post from curio on why this works, will try and dig it out. Essentially, less processor time is used for the same number of commands. (Oc doesnt mean your devices constantly runs at 1200 mhz tho)

Works well and if you have voltage control as well works fine i had my voltages undervolted and installed SetCpu already detected them and was at that voltage as well as governor and scheduler.
Pretty kewl i havent tried anything below -200mv because the frequencies require a certain amount of voltge to power up and work.
But does have the option to. heres a few pics

Well It's not the app that manages your cpu. All they do is modify your internal setting's. (same as the RAM tweaks.)
So theoretically it should work. (unless it's not Epic supported) If i'm wrong, some correction would be nice.

So I just opened up is monitor and happened to go to the processor tab and discovered that the second core was underclocked to 456MHz with the governor set to conservative. Now my xoom is flying. Its great.
Step by step:
Open os monitor (im on tiamat 2.2.2)
Go to misc tab
Tap on more next to CPU
Change it to the settings you want
???

Let me know if you have any success with this.

I started this thread because i want to be able to use Sparksco kernel v14 but it freezes when its set to 1.0GHZ I been running v10 as my daily kernel and its bottomline on my top list of kernels. Any help will be much appreciated, im on the latest nightly CM255, i had to revert back to v10 because i need speed to check emails and surf the internet...If theres another update for the V14 in the future i hope that can be a fix or its probably my setup that prevents me from reaching any higher speeds, overall Sparksco you the man!!! By the way ICS devs yall get mad props peace...
I use sparks v14 kernel on cm nightly 255 clocked right under 1ghz using smartass governer no problem. I did a full wipe of everything, and formatted system before install of everything of course. Edit: I clocked it to 2ghz and no freezes here. Did you do a full wipe before the install of the ROM/kernel?

Kernel v14 is more geared for battery saving. I haven't updated the voltages yet because I'm not compiling gingerbread anymore, rather been working on getting a stable ICS rom build before I do more work on it. As soon as we get ICS gingerbread will be a thing of the past. Kernel v14 works good for some and v10 for others. I like v14 because of the battery I've been able to get on 122mhz min and 998mhz max. But if you up the min to the next highest setting (230mhz) you shouldn't get any lockups. Or even try 307mhz.
Edit: looks like 307mhz min is the only clock speed that allows me to overclock to 2ghz and not have any lockups. I'm also on cm nightly 255 pzguzman, and I always keep it on smartass governor.
P.S. The mods should be able to move this thread no problem without removing the comments or thread.

YOU'RE USING THE WRONG GOVERNOR MIN/MAX SETTINGS
For example:
IF I want to get 2ghz out of my phone I use the performance governor and use min/max of 2ghz.
OR:
I would use:
Gov: Smartass
Min CPU: 300mhz
Max CPU: 1.5ghz
You would freeze too if you were a CPU constantly going from 100mhz to 2000mhz all the time!

Smartass2 was made for the HTC Sensation which is a dual core gsm phone much like the Evo 3D (but cdma instead). I could never get it to clock passed 1.4ghz so I don't think it likes our phones much. It's a great concept but the normal old smartass still works much better for the shift.

Again, it depends on the governor and the min cpu. I ran scary stable at 1.9ghz for 24 hours+ straight, no lockups.
for the heck of it I ran it @ the min of like 1something hz for the low and 2.0 max just to see how it ran, and it was solid.

But be very carefull with your voltages, you are warned!

You might want to look in the kernel threads (FM kernel, Abyss, etc) in development, there is enough info concerning your question, and yes you can underclock with tegrak.
With tegrak you can use any cpu speed you want, is not fixed to a few settings.
