Since the motorola launch the i1, the first android iDEN, i was wondering if there is any chance to port this to another phone?
I know it will need the hardware, but if Im able to put some hardware and the driver of the hardware, it is possible to get the iDEN network to work properly?
Just one question, why?

If we can do so, we can product some android iDEN/GSM dual chip.
It's not so dificult since you have the iDEN control apk and the dual chip control apk.
Motorola also launched dual chip androids smarts, so we can have both, on 1 device.
It can be really great, and if we port that maybe motorola launch some device like that for us to be happy!
Someone knows it???

Hey everyone, I've currently been using a Mytouch 3g and well I need a phone with a keyboard lol I just like the faster response keyboard phones have. So I was wondering which would be a better buy if I wanted a phone with a keyboard that operates on android....
morola cliq G1 or (??) if there's another one that runs android?
Also if I did decide to get the cliq, would i be able to still rom it like i did my MT3G?
thanks for your help
For T-Mobile There is also the Behold 2. I don't know if you will still be able to flash roms. You don't be able to flash roms from this site because this is for htc phones. You are going to have to find another forum. I don't know if you will be able to find ROM's of such high quality that you will find here, however.
yeah that's what i figured, i just love having a phone with a keyboard. Is there anything else like the G1 that can still be rom'd
for t-mobile? No. The G1 and MyTouch are the only HTC devices for t-mobile with Android.
Perhaps this is a silly question, as I would probably already know the answer if there was any info...
Will there ever be a CDMA version of this device? This would be the perfect phone, if I could use it on Verizon.
I'm assuming no, since all of Dell's phones (Streak, Aero) so far seem to be GSM-only.
Doubt it.
Hi Android people,
Right now i have a Lg Incite (CT810) running Windows Mobile 6.5x and to be honest windows mobile hacking is really dieing because of the new windows phone 7 and etc, so I'm switching to Android. A phone that I've really been looking at is the Motorola Backflip however, is the phone any good? I've been hearing issues about At&t having control over it and it not being able to install third-party apps.
PS: I am experience with smart phone flashing
you should go here for it

or here

ty for the info! now I'm sure about switching over to android.
Quick Question i was doing my homework on the BackFlip and it doesn't seem that there is a Gingerbread 2.3 update for it, is there?
I don't think so. Unless someone ports it from the 2.3 gingerbread sources to the backflip. Or when motorola comes out with it

Well that sucks, porting things to a device is way too hard. I guess I'll have to wait on Motorola (if they ever do it).
Thanks
Well if u can wait till late january early february at&t is going to be selling the motorola olympus, which contains a dual core processor, front facing camera, 8mp camera, and shipping with android 2.2 with motoblur

Will that be able to be updated to gingerbread 2.3?
I've had one since Sept and I've successfully added third pary apps. You need to set usb debugging ona moto app. I can't find the address, but it's easy to google. Using moto apps, you can install anything; it overrides the phone settings and installs from your computer. You'll have to have the phone connected bu USB cable for it to work. Sorry I don't have the links available.
I know there has been a thread or 2 about this, but I want to go in a different direction. I have a chance to trade my epic straight up for a Motorola Photon and I'm thinking about it.
Does anyone have experience with rooting? Recovery? Comparable differences with the epic? I'm just trying to gauge the learning curve with getting the phone the way I like it, versus how easy it was when I got my epic.
I figured I would ask here before I posted a derrr stupid annoying thread in their section. Since at least I know names around here.
They do have a mostly working cm7, but so do we. They don't have very many roms yet and I think its hard to root and get recovery (compared to epic). They do have superior hardware and superior CDMA+WIMAX radios (higher data speeds). For now, it depends on whats important to you: ROMS or Hardware. Also, fyi, the Photon will likely get official ICS if that interests you
Thank you for the response
Yea ICS crossed my mind, but after what I've gone through with my epic, I don't think I could use a stock phone ever again. Tell me this, if you can, is it easier to root than the old Thunderbolt method? As in circumventing the bootloader via exploit and thus making a HUGE headache to restore to stock if needed?
The processor is dual core, which I like, but as far as I can tell our phones have much better screen quality. Bah. I don't know what to do.
Ask qbking77 what he thinks about them. He has both

Oh really? Ok. Thanks.
If they're asking for a straight up trade... Do it for sure. The phone stock alone is better than the epic (due to dual core and speed). The screen on the epic is imo a little better since it has superamoled (my favorite). Unfortunately, development for the Photon isn't very great and isn't supported very well. If you were to get the Photon I'd just leave it stock and root it for the free tethering (which might not work on your device depending on ad hoc or not). The photon is a great phone, and has much better signal strength than any other sprint phone. If having a hardware keyboard isn't a problem for you.. I'd definitely trade for the photon. If you like having a phone with developer support... stick with the epic. If you have any other questions, please let me know
Honestly rooting the photon is down to a one click root, unlocking the bootloader is easy to if you know how to read. Putting cwm on is also simple if you can follow directions. If you have any concerns ask away, if you have any doubts on doing something, read read read!

Agreed it is very easy. I have videos for everything actually. Whether its rooting, unlocking a bootloader, or unrooting. To have a rom, you will lose 4G. Unlocking your bootloader causes you to lose 4g.
Ok, I'm starting to get the picture now. I guess there is good and bad on both sides. I don't have 4G in New Hampshire, and I never will in the form of WiMax, so that part doesn't bother me. I think I will trade for it if he still wants to do it. Thanks all for your input
I bought the motorola photon yesterday, and honestly i think its an incredible device that can easily hold me off until sprint start releasing LTE devices.
I heard that their is a way to use a custom rom and keep your 4g by doing the following.
1. root device
2. unlock bootloader
3. install recovery
4. install custom ROM
5. backup custom ROM
6. lock bootloader
7. root
8. restore custom ROM
That method only works with pseudo roms, full roms require cwm which requires an unlocked bootloader

I want to change my phone to something similar to the G1. Someone knows if there is a phone with the same design but updated hardware (dual core)
Thanks
I wish! There really isnt, ive read about people who have attempted to change out the logic board but ive never heard of any success. Really your best option would be to go out and find som hardware keyboard android phones with more power as many of us former dream users have done.
You can run a search in gsmarena to help you out but you will be limited on options, maybe 10 that are a reasonable upgrade but only a handfull that are actually worth it.

Isn't the MyTouch 4G Slide like that? It even has a trackball type thing.
