Hey everyone, I've currently been using a Mytouch 3g and well I need a phone with a keyboard lol I just like the faster response keyboard phones have. So I was wondering which would be a better buy if I wanted a phone with a keyboard that operates on android....
morola cliq G1 or (??) if there's another one that runs android?
Also if I did decide to get the cliq, would i be able to still rom it like i did my MT3G?
thanks for your help
For T-Mobile There is also the Behold 2. I don't know if you will still be able to flash roms. You don't be able to flash roms from this site because this is for htc phones. You are going to have to find another forum. I don't know if you will be able to find ROM's of such high quality that you will find here, however.
yeah that's what i figured, i just love having a phone with a keyboard. Is there anything else like the G1 that can still be rom'd
for t-mobile? No. The G1 and MyTouch are the only HTC devices for t-mobile with Android.

so the fcc has approved the magic for tmobile. what does that mean for us g1ers.
Depends on the cost and hardware. I hear its pretty much the exact same as the G1 inside and if thats the case I most likely wont. However, if the GPS reciever is better then maybe. My only gripe with the G1 since it never seems to work for me.

i don't see the point at all.
now that we nearly have the Magic ROM ported to the G1 i don't see the need to spend money to get nearly exactly the same phone but without a keyboard.(which is the best part if you ask me )
the only way i'd get one is if when my contract runs out and they offer it me as an upgrade.
I like it dont get me wrong..but like many G1 users (probably) its got to have the keyboard...some complain to me they dont like their G1 because it has a keyboard and lackof onscreen keyboard...but I rather have the keyboard and more screen space...
Ill be keeping my G1
I'll keep my G1 too the only thing that the g1 does not have that the magic does is more rom memory and that's because the rom in the Magic is bigger other than that is the same hardware less the keyboard. (I don't like screen keyboard they drive me crazy). One thing I don't know yet is if they are using the full power of the processor in the Magic as I have red before in the G1 is running like a half, but this still is not a reason I think that later you will see a overclock app for the g1 as they are for the winmo.
And like somebody else said haykuro almost have the HtcMagic rom ported to the G1.
Hi all, I just got a new HTC HD2 from T-Mobile US and wanted to know if someone can point me in the right direction on how to install Android. I'm pretty familiar with Android since my first Smartphone was the HTC Dream/G1 (which I miss already) and the only reason I got this phone besides the specs was that I heard you can hack it to run Android. I have no clue about Windows Mobile phones since this is my first one (and I don't like it already LOL) but if I can get Android on here then maybe she's a keeper...any help will do, thanks in advance.
Sell your HD2 if you don't like WM. It'll be a while before Android is on it. Android is possible on the HD, if you want to get that phone.

WOW! So Android hasn't been ported to the HD2 yet? Looks like I'm taking my phone back to T-Mobile and sticking with my trusty Dream until the next best thing comes out.
nice job on the research there buddy....
heres the android thread btw. very far from an android build.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651632
may i advise you to at least try out wm first though. its actually not that bad, and i think that sense makes it look much nicer than android
you didnt look into this stuff before you went and got the phone? typical... "shot, then ask questions"
You're going to miss the speed of the hd2. I had an HTC Dream too.
You have 2 weeks to try it before you have to return it if you don't like it.
hey guys. I am pretty close to buying the HD2. I will be comming from Android, and I really like the free applications...but as far as I hear, win 6.5 does not offer many free apps...mostly everything is paid... am I wrong? is there any place other than marketplace to download apps, safely?
Also, one quick question: why sould i flash a coocked rom? how does it help? i know rooting my g1 was of great help, but does HD2 matter without that?
I hope I post in the correct place, if not please move this post to the appropriate place.!
thank you.
Not the correct place to post, but just like rooting your G1 flashing roms on your HD2 provides improvements to your phone such as updates to the OS, speed, and etc. As far as "free"... there really isn't anywhere else to get them if by free you mean actually free. There are warez sites out there, but we don't condone that here, that is for you to find out on your own. I came from Android (Nexus One) and am happy here with my HD2. The choice is yours.
I'm new to WinMo, but I've found a few sites to use as app-libraries.
http://www.bestwindowsmobileapps.com
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net
http://hd2apps.blogspot.com
Not all of those are free, but a lot are. If you need a particular function, more than likely, you can find a free app for it.
Also Microsoft announced the other day they were doing some sort of expansion to the Marketplace, so it should be easier to find apps.
HD2
Hello,
I too am a ex-android user. Had G1, Mytouch, Cliq. The HD2 is far away the fastest phone I have ever used. The chefs on this site are amazing, and I for one I believe there will be a day soon when we Hd2 users will have the ability to boot into Android if we want. And you never know, Windows 7 may be in the future too. If you get the HD2, you wont be disappointed.
Good luck!

Coming From a Iphone 2g and A t-mo G1 I will say the hd2 is a pretty big change. In some respects I miss android but I am very happy with the hd2. The screen is incredible and its so thin. I laugh when I see iphone users. As far as app a lot are pay. that can be a good or a bad thing. No one wants to develop for a platform where they wont get paid for
I still have my iPhone...my wife has a mytouch.
Other than the Apps, neither the iPhone or mytouch have anything on the HD2.
Apps are a big deal to some people though, and there aren't very many on the HD2...so that's certainly something to think about. For me, the apps got old after awhile, and I hardly ever used them any more. I made too many stupid impulse purchases on apps I used once and never opened again. Most of them are pointless.
Stupid Question
Dude, either you get it or you don't... its a dumb question bro, sorry.
I'm buying an HD2 for all the wrong reasons (same reason as I bought the Touch Pro 2), I'm getting it in the hope that it will at least be able to dual-boot android in the future, at best, have native android.
When I saw the Supersonic, I was excited except for the fact that it's a CDMA device and I like T-Mobile better than sprint. My gut tells me that there'll be a GSM version of the Supersonic, but I'm noticing an HTC trend and I think that if such a device were made in GSM, it will be made for ATT's bands and not T-Mobile's.
I'm very capable of making my own builds for the Dream (I'm running a near-perfect copy of the nexus one 2.1 on my Dream), so I know that (other than the screen size) I can make my dream offer a similar experience. I was also making my own Android builds for the Rhodium before I returned it in expectance of the HD2. I'm attracted to the idea of a dual-boot Winmo-Android, so the HD2 is looking more and more attractive but the unlocked device's been out for so long in europe that I'm pretty sure a new, better device will come out for T-Mo US soon after I get the HD2 that I'll regret having it.
Gosh, I'm torn. It's such a sexy device (were it not for the lack of a physical keyboard, it'd be perfect).
They're sold out online, so I havent been able to upgrade yet, I'm just hoping that HTC announces something new for T-Mo us that will make me want to abandon my dream finally (the hypexus one didn't cut it for me) before I'm able to upgrade.
Hi all,
I'm on Wind Mobile in Canada (1700MHz 3G), so I don't have a lot of choices if I'm looking for an Android handset:
-Nexus One: Discontinued, and I'm not a big fan of the PenTile AMOLED screen
-Samsung Vibrant: Would cost me almost $600 after shipping/tax, and I've heard about reception issues
-Moto Milestone XT720: I like this phone, but it only has 256MB RAM, and Motorola isn't even promising to upgrade it to Froyo (it currently runs on Eclair 2.1). However, I will soon be able to buy this phone directly from Wind, so one advantage I would have is warranty...
Ironically, on paper, the HD2 seems like a better choice than all of these, because:
-I could get it for around $400 (which is about the same as what the XT720 would cost me)
-It can currently run 2.2, and will probably be able to run 3.0 in the future
-Good reception
-Biggest screen
-Best specs: 1GHz CPU and 576MB (!) RAM
-Possibility of trying out WP7 in the future
Now here's the thing.. I'm not at all interested in WinMo 6.5. So as a full-time Android handset, would you guys go ahead buy this phone? Also, will the custom ROMs have full access to the app market?
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks,
Faruk
Wait for the nand versions to come out and see how they work. If possible try to get hold of a friends hd2 and see if you like it.

The HTC HD2 is definitely the "Best-value" phone here since you can play around with both WM and Android.
However, I've seen Samsung Galaxy S go for $300-350 on Craigslist. Not that much more expensive than the HTC HD2 and you get a native Android phone (with AMOLED screen ). It's FAST too. I get 2200+ with Quadrant. I haven't experienced any call issue with my Vibrant. Don't use GPS that often but there's a fix for that (and lag).
If you like playing and tweaking your phones then get the HD2. If you aren't ready to deal with issues and scour xda for solutions, then do not get the HD2.
If you do get a HD2 your probably going to get a Nexus ROM on it anyway, so just get the nexus?!?!?!
Thanks for the replies so far, guys!
scbrother: I can get the HD2 for $100 less than the Nexus One... And the screen of the HD2 is pretty attractive to me. (Plus, it has real multitouch unlike the Nexus)
All I want to know is if Android on the HD2 is as good as a native experience. In other words, if I can just ignore WM altogether and use Android as my main OS without any issues. The camera's not a big deal to me, but I would like to have functional 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
I love my android HD2. My only experience using native Android was on the G1. This blows it out of the water (its also significantly newer hardware).
As someone said earlier: if you like to tinker and play with your phone and don't mind reading a lot to find your answers, then go for it.
I've personally had fun tweaking and reading to get my phone running flawlessly. I enjoy it and haven't used WinMo for months now.
Good luck.

Alright well I did a lot of searching to see if there are any issues with stuff that I actually care about (ex. i don't care about the 3MP camera limitation, and 65k colours is not a deal-breaker), and the only thing I could find which I wasn't sure about was "PPP".
Can anybody here tell me what PPP is for? Is this the VPN stuff, or is it a totally different kind of PPP? If it's to do with VPN then no biggie, otherwise could anybody let me know what it is? Thanks in advance
Edit: Never mind I think I finally found out... Apparently 3G uses either PPP or RMNet, and PPP is much faster but currently not as stable on the Android ROMs... I hope I got that right! Well, assuming that this is an issue which will be fixed, I'm leaning more and more towards the HD2... I know a lot of people are saying "wait for the Desire HD" etc. but the problem is that those of us who use 1700MHz 3G don't really have too many choices!
If you decide on an HD2, make sure you get a t-mobile version. The unlocked version does not support 1700/2100 3g. The Tmobile does.
Can anyone suggest a phone that is comparable (diversity of different operating systems/ROMS, running ROM from the SD card etc...) on the ATT network.
Sadly!!! I need to switch from T mobile to ATT (or in a worse case scenario, to Verizon, due to work and reception problems).
I would love to have my HD2, but it is really not designed for ATT/verizon.
I really liked having the choice to run windows or load android from the SD card!!!
I can keep upgrading to the latest android ROM. Just having the freedom to chose was giving me a blissful feeling that I am going to miss if I can't find a comparable phone.
You won't find another one like the HD2 for ATT or Verizon. Unless you can find a Telstra HD2 which can then be used for ATT 3G.
In a way you're lucky. AT&T is the only other carrier where you have this flexibility since the Leo is the only handset with this flexibility.
Search eBay for "t9193" You'll find what you're looking for. You'll also find they're not cheap. I'm going to be getting rid of mine soon as I've settled on Android I don't need that flexibility offered by the Leo anymore. I've moved to the Inspire from the Leo, and while I've grown attached to it, the time is now to move on.

I tend to prefer my next phone to be a THC phone. Just because I would expect more consistency between software and I would think that most programs tend to be designed with HTC phones in mind. I had Toshiba phone and a lot of the software never worked well with (accelerometer, video etc...).
Although I am not sure if my assessment is correct, I am being cautious when spending a few hundred dollars on a phone.
Okie. Well there's not telling if there's gonna be a sensation with a T&t's 3g bands so Iunno. Plus we don't know if HTC will give an update to unlock the sensation's bootloader. You could try the inspire 4g or a canadian desire z though.
Just to note, if you're paranoid about samsung updating, they're one of the best, if you haven't noticed, comparable to HTC, seeing as how the galaxy s got gingerbread so fast, before HTC even delivered gingerbread to any of their phones.
And read some reviews of it then. Maybe you'll get inspired.
And no, most apps are not designed with HTC in mind, if a developer thought like that, then he'd be in trouble. Most apps are designed to bode with all sorts of phones/processors.
