There is no phone that looks good right now.. Sure their Specs are nice but the overall look of them... NO, a nice HTC 4.3in screen that's thin similar to the HD2/7 with dual+ core and more ram then ok... 3D that's useless and makes no sense on phones

I agree with everything you said here.
My replacement will have to have at least a 4.3 inch screen, dual core, more ram, and no frikkin 3D crap.
There is no way I'm changing my HD2 right now, but if I had to I'd pick the Evo 3D, not because of its specification nor of its supposed 3D. But because of it's design . It's so sexy

sumthing dual core, but specifically qualcomm snapdragon.. not a big fan of the dual core tegra
reason - QC chips kick ass

I will never get rid of my HD2, even after it completely dies one day it will go into my go into my archieves as atestamony to it's greatness lol. But I am looking forward to tbe release of the HTC Pyramid. It is a dual core Snapdragon. Hell yeah!!!
Guys come on! I know we all love our HD2's but if you had the opportunity to switch to a native android device which didn't have any bugs and had the new snapdragon processor you'd definitely change. Also wake up lag is a *****.

A phone with multi-os
Whilst I love my HD2 I have temporarily traded it for my cousin's captivate. Main reason so as to try out a native android phone.
So from my experience, i can conclude that android on this captivate is so much more smoother/faster than any rom from my HD2. In terms of variety of roms, it sucks, its either stock, themed stock, vanilla, themed vanilla. No variety in their roms really...
But that is where all those 3rd party launchers come in, like launcher 7. ;D
Whilst I do not know which device I want next, I do know it won't be another HTC or a motorola device. Reason being for both motorola and HTC, they've locked down their bootloaders now, so that means no more custom kernels, true root, etc. Also for HTC, snapdragon GPUs just suck, period.
I am keeping a keen eye on the galaxy s 2 however.
Definitely plan on getting the Htc Pyramid. Reasins why, 4.3' native android phone, dual core, 8mp camera, 1.3 front camera. 540x960 qhd resolution.

I don't know if i'm mistaken but i think that the devs are working hard on the locked down bootloaders that you mention.. and with a dual core snapdragon the htc pyramid sounds great.. but like you said just keeping an eye on it..

i think HD2 is the best right now with no comparing, but the time cpu upgraded the heat come more and more without solving,i think HTC should be ware of designing internal component in the future ,most of common problem related to hd2 comes from heat, stuck.freezing and sometimes i have to put mine in freezer to boot, ,
My contract runs out next month and I like to get the latest technology as soon as possible as then the phone retains its value when you want to sell it.
But what will be the next HD2? I love the fact that I can run WP7, Android etc will any phone in the future be so versitile? Probably not.
I'm really not sure whether to just stick with my HD2 or upgrade to the EVO 3D, just a shame it doesnt have a Tegra 2 processor as that would pursade me.
A Tmous HD2 with 1gb rom
@chars
Yes they are working on it. However since HTC just released the source code for the thunderbolt, by which allows devs to truly root the device, maybe HTC isn't following in line with locking bootloaders. If so I will be keeping a keen eye on the pyramid. However since it's an adreno GPU I'm not sure....

Heya guys
as title suggests
I'm seriously entertaining the idea of trading my Cappy for an HD2 since it can run so many OS's and tweaking, not to mention a larger screen and slightly more RAM on the T-Mo version of the HD2.
What should I do?
there are obvious pros and cons for this move
Pros:
Bigger screen
More RAM on the T-Mo HD2
More OS's on the HD2---Android, WP7, etc
Cons:
Snapdragon SoC is 1st Gen on the HD2 and is slower than HummingBird SoC
LCD dislpay instead of SAMOLED display
so.....any opinions? I'm really tempted to trade, but I'm already planning to pick up a dual core phone some time Q3-4 next year as a treat for my birthday
cheers
As long as you don't let someone sell you a fualty HD2, you can not go wrong buying a HD2. Yeah the screen is not AMOLED screen. But the size of the scree makes up for that, plus I love the desplay quality. And yes the QualComm Snapdragon in the HD2 is first Gen, but still it is a SNAPDRAGON. They don't say release the dragon within for nothing. The Snapdragon is a awesome processor, don't let all the hipe about other processors fool you. They are all trying to catch the Snapdragon. Once the dual core Snapdragon devices start coming out the other companies will really begin to rush their production of another processor. I Just wonder what a 2ghz dual core Snapdragon could do, just me dreaming though lol.

Despite what everyone else is saying about how the processors are different, they really aren't. All are built on the same ARM instruction set, maybe with a little modifications, and some other part, I don't remember, is the same. So what i'm saying, in terms of processing, they really aren't different. In terms of GPU you should know that the sgs beats the HD2, period.
Interestingly i temporarily traded my HD2 for my cousin's cappy. He wanted to try out the HD2 for its multi booting OS goodness, I wanted to try a true android phone. Now I'm going to confidently say the sgs runs android a lot smoother and faster than the HD2, just something you should note if you're looking for performance. However don't think i'm saying the HD2 running android isn't smooth at all, it is, it just won't compare to a true android phone.
However as you said you wanted to try multi booting and tweaking, so the phone will never get you bored in that aspect. You'll be on the site constantly searching for new roms to try out, just for the sake of flashing cuz you're so addicted to flashing.

Oh no don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the HD2 is horrible at running anything. it runs great, just not as good as a true device of the OS, apart form winmo.
Now since you're saying Q3/4 you'll be getting a new phone i say, why not? For me right now, i'm actually bored with the captivate. No offense to captivate users, but it feels like an iPhone right now. Reason being all the roms are so similar, no uniqueness or variety. Now its not the devs fault of course. What can devs do if they don't have an AOSP to work on?
i guess its cuz i'm so addicted to flashing from my hd2.
Anyways the Hd2 will keep you preoccupied until you get a new phone.

It's not hard to flash android/WP7 on the Hd2.
I disagree with the person that said an SGS runs android "more smoothly" than the HD2.
I've got a CM7 ROM on my HD2 and it runs tons more smoothly than the lagtastic stock ROM on the SGS, no doubt. If you flash a DHD port then yeah, ok, it will be slower, but CM7 or even Sense runs faster and better IMO than stock SGS (not that SGS can even run sense). I've never used CM7 on SGS so can't compare that.
Honestly my Android is running fast and seems/feels like a native Android device. WP7 feels/runs like a native WP7 device except multi-touch can be a little tricky (sometimes doesn't register pinch-to-zoom).
I would NOT trade my HD2 for an SGS unless it was the 4G version that I would sell and buy an HD2 on the cheap and keep the extra money for tacos
I personally think it's a smart trade because the HD2 has more to offer and doesn't feel like a cheap piece of plastic, yeah SAMOLED is nice but it's not that much nicer and you get really used to the HD2 screen and get to really enjoy it.
I know the hummingbird soc is better than 1st gen snapdragon, but samsung is so horrible with their code they don't utilize it's power anyways, an iPhone 4 uses the same soc and blows the SGS out of the water with a lower clock speed...

@orange
It seems i forgot to mention on a custom rom. However why are you going to compare a device that is running on software that has not been optimized to the fullest, to one that has, and then conclude one is better? I'm sorry, but isn't that unfair? If you're going to compare, compare on even grounds, one on a custom rom, to the other on a custom rom.
Either way, we all know the sgs is a piece of crap with the stock rom due to its horrible file system. But with lagfixes/tweaks/custom roms, it becomes the diamond it was supposed to be.

I don't know much about it but it has the same GPU as the G2 so it is just as good processor wise only diference is that the chips have different processing speeds 800mhz on the G2 and 1ghz on the mytouch it is faster than the G2 whitout root but once they have the same processing speed there is no difference, oh and also the mytouch has more RAM I think its somewhere in the 700s mb, whereas the G2 has 512mb which is a plus on the mytouch, and they both have 4GB internal mem, although as we know it froyo only allows 2GB of use, which boggles my mind because idk why we have 4GB if we can't use all of it. And if your wanting to get a dual core mytouch 4G slide I suggest yu wait and see what this htc doubleshot is, tbh I think it may the the 4G slide, give it a couple of more months dude

You might want to rethink about that.
I had mytouch 4g but got rid of it.
It just have way too many qc issues not sure if you want to go through all the exchanging program
1.lights leak
2.half of the device comes with washed out screen check their general thread more info. Or search for Goodscreen vs badscreen on youtube.
3. Squeaky sound when the buttons are pressed
4.typical htc qc issue, dust under screen dead pixcel
5. Front facing camera off centered. U have to tilt the device to get your device in the center and if you have one of the washed out screen well... not so good
6. There is more but i dont remember.

Honorable Members,
I want to part away with this phone, a friend is after me day and night but need to know when the next flagship coming for me to change. It can be HTC or any other brand Android phone. However, i need something that is truly pace setter.
Well, the Samsung Galaxy S2 is out already, and that is your best bet if you want something now, otherwise, you are really waiting for the HTC Sensation, but that will be substantially more expensive. Remember though, the experience is the most important thing, so if you want Sense, keep your phone for a while.

I'd go with the Samsung Galaxy S2, its a beast of a phone!
Sensation is basically the DHD with upgraded specs - it looks truly exceptional. 1080p video, a screen that does better colours and uses less power and updated sense. I think that'll be the new desire in terms of popularity for the next 12-24 months.

I totally agree. Although I'm a total geek when it comes to phones as I always want the latest and greatest, I know for a fact I'm hardly going to utalize its potential. Hell, all I ever use my Desire HD for is browsing, listening to music, making phonecalls, sending texts and playing some simple games. All an upgrade can do for me at this point is offer better battery life really.
Your usage is no less than anyone else's, it's just that people get massively drawn into the spec war.
When was the last time that anyone really recorded anything 1080p on their phone, aside from it just being there to do? And who exactly is going to completely utilise a dual core processor right now? No multi-threaded apps, and Android's memory management kills off anything that is not in use...so no need for two cores. We are currently in a place where the hardware is outpacing the software by quite a way. Focus needs to be placed on improving the software in the mobile world; this is painfully clear from the rather poor performance of Sense ROMs, for example.
Not saying that the tech is bad, but right now we really don't need it. Hence why I'm waiting a couple of years before I move to a dual core phone - my DHD is enough for anybody in terms of power.
Sent from my Desire HD
question, with all these dual core phones coming out, for example the lg optimus 2x is rated at 1GHz, So is it like 2 500MHz cores or 2 1GHz cores, I'm guessing the former ?

That's true. My only Need is an Android phone that beats my iPhone 4 in terms of looks. In as much I agree that my DHD is a better phone but i will be honest to you that I need a very very beautiful looking phone that can do the job easily.

question, with all these dual core phones coming out, for example the lg optimus 2x is rated at 1GHz, So is it like 2 500MHz cores or 2 1GHz cores, I'm guessing the former ?

Note that it doesn't mean that you will have double performance or anything like that. Apps and the OS need to be multithreaded; written to support and use two cores. It will be a long while before this happens, so the by the time Android 3.0 comes, the second core will be used for background tasks to assist multitasking. The issue with that is that memory management in Android means that there won't be many background tasks to actually manage, as they get killed off. And...it's a phone, so you don't really do any multitasking requires a whole core for background processes. So...a bit pointless right now. It'll see its uses in the future for performance, however.
To the post above; if looks are inportant to you, do take a look around before buying, as the newer phones definitely aren't as clean design-wise. The Galaxy S could look great...it's shame about the bloody plastics.

I'll keep my dhd for now!
I'll c what the future brings, but for a few new things i wont make the step...
On mayor software enhancement i maybe will reconsider.

I know, I was just wondering how they were naming them, for instance I used to have a processor that was advertised as 4.8GHz where in fact it was actually 2 x 2.4GHz cores, That imo is how they should be named, So the LG would be advertised as 2GHz

It's a real shame, because all these phones have great hardware yet they don't have that premium feel...it unfortunately is the only reason I would buy HTC phones.

Definitely not. That is misleading, because doubling single cores doesn't equate to double performance, as you understand. In fact, in most cases it doesn't improve performance at all.

The Sensation is really your only bet to be honest. HTC are the only company that is really pushing the aluminium construction right now.
I want to buy a new smartphone. What is the best?
Is there other options because those phones are both nice but there are newer ones with dual core about the same price as those phones. If you want versatility then the HD2 is the phone for you. if you want pure android from the door and dont really want the hassle of messing around then I would go withe the Desire HD. I have the HD2 and i love the phone alot of development for it but it is getting old. I would go with the Desire HD.
czarsuperstar......... Define versatility.
Uh...
Desire HD has newer CPU and GPU.
So... Desire HD/

Grip of death issue on the Sensation...and the nail to the coffin for the Sensation is that other brands do offer better per dollar value...such as SGSII. lol.
Between HD2 and Desire HD, go with the Desire HD, its a far newer phone with improved CPU and GPU as well as other small tweaks such as the camera, most importantly, a far more superior operating system...HD2 had a lot of issues with the digitaliser...

If I were you I would not consider hanging with these phones. Though very popular phone but...I would put 10% more on the top of my budget n bought the new dual core phones like sensation or GS2.
I got DHD now. I like it but there are couple of other phones more powerful, better GPU and better battery life.
Decision is yours: If no last options I would prefer DHD far better specs than HD2
My wife has Samsung Galaxy. Everything just seems to 'work' on that phone compared to my HD. Dont be blinkered into choosing an HTC phone based on past glories.

I'm also tempted to buy a S2 galaxy.
People b*tch about it being plastic but you have very good plastic and bad metal if you know what I mean, as long as the chassis is sturdy.
Also rf-signals (gps, wifi, bt and gsm (still a phone)) pass through plastic more easily than metal.
For one I would not buy a HD2 anymore if it would be your only phone.
Like someone said, hardware issues. Head down to the hd2 forum and you will see loads of people complaining about bad blocks, digitizers etc. things that are not really replacable etc.
As being a 'toy' phone then yes the HD2 is fantastic.
I now have the DHD but I'm still not sure that I like it. I also have a ZTE blade (yes the cheap thing) and it beats the DHD in wifi, gps and loudspeaker (as being able to hear something not like a tweeter on the DHD)
The DHD on the other hand is faster, has a better camera (still seeing pink spot, check a grey wall and bump up colour and contrast) and larger screen (did I say that the ZTE screen was brighter also?).
So it all depends on your needs.
I would love to testdrive a couple of phones and compare them for a week.
There are 2 things about SGS2 which wins over Sensation. It's Super Amoled bright screen and it's light weight!
Downside: very cheap looking phone! seems like bought from a $2.00 shop lol
Sensation: It's got sense 3.0 because it make sense! a bit lagging If I'm not wrong my DHD runs smoother than HTC sensation. > May be they have fixed with the new update!
NOT to overwhelm OP with these ideologies . Ya should have these things in mind before buying your SMART PHONE. Or else you'll end up regrating. Now we say HD2 is old 2,3 months later you'll say to Sensation or GS2. It's all Money and Marketing but on top of that you should consider your own needs and requirements from a smart phone.

I have been a member of the HD2 section of this forum for over a year, and until last week i owned 2 x HD2 phones.
Trust me.....get a HTC Desire!!!!
Owned my desire for a week and it's BRILLIANT compared to HD2 problems.
matt
As few have mentioned the DHD has better hardware spec than the HD2.
What nobody has mentioned though is the screen is way better on the DHD especially in terms of accuracy of typing, thats what i've found anyway...
If they are your only 2 choices defo the DHD in my experience...
DHD is better than HD2,they are uncomparable, but why not another newer and more powerful dual core phone? The two of them are out of fashion now.
I think the Desire HD is still a very good phone compared to the newer generation phones (SGS2, Sensation) and a viable option. It depends on what features you need though.
Why?
-Dualcore does not bring any real advantages right now. When apps really profit from it there will be better phones. + it usually uses more power than singlecore.
So the speed improvement compared to a DHD is very minimal and probably not noticable in general.
-DHD has one of the best custom rom support. From different Sense 2.1 and Sense 3 roms to Cyanogen or MIUI variations you can flash what you want on your DHD. Custom roms on the newer phones are still in early developement.
-Software from both SGS2 and Sensation isnt quite there imho. Touchwiz is well... touchwiz, and SGS2 has some problems with 3d games and overheats sometimes. And somehow the sensation just doesnt feel that smooth (i had the feeling sense 3 on my DHD runs smoother^^) we can only hope updates will correct that.
I could go on. But in my opinion upgrading from a DHD to one of the newer phones is something you should only do if you have more than enough money on your bank.
But you're in another situation. You need a new phone and if money is an issue i think the DHD is still a good option (forget the HD2 its just too old). Its not without flaws but neither are the newer phones.
I will stick to my DHD for at least another year. But if I would be in your spot(and money wasnt an issue) right now id probably go for the Sensation with a good custom rom (they should be out soon with the bootloader unlocked now).
The SGS2 is very good, but there are some things that are dealbrakers for me. For example the screen. Everyones praising it to heaven but i think its just awefull to look at^^ Colors are way off. And stuff mentioned above..

Ah, I'm not alone in thinking that then? Full brightness, looks fine - anything less and the SGSII has a green tint to it. Yuck.
I've got a Desire HD; works very well for me - all the better for rooting and putting on Cyanogen instead of Sense!
HD2 is pretty old now. I would say of the 2 dhd

maybe 200%
I had HD2 first and went from HD2 to Desire HD.
Desire HD is a much better phone and double so fast than HD2.
Desire HD or Sensation is today options
Well its time to upgrade, after 2 years with my little Hero. Amazing phone.
Any way im down to a choice of 2. And strugling to make a choice.
HTC Sensation, or the HTC Evo 3D
wait one month
just wait one month for the XE. I know the beats part is a gimmick but it will be roughly the same price and a faster clocked processor and better headphones out of the box
I still have my hero as well. I want to upgrade but I personally find that most new phones just all look alike. The hero was just so awesomely different haha !!

Sensation it's a better phone...i read that the HERO S will come out in the USA and i think in Europe to...but to bad that the phone isn't dualcore...because the hero made a big revolution in the phone industry...

I went for a Samsung Galaxy S2 and never been Happy
I thought I'd Give Samsung a chance after HTC HERO and HTC HD7 and I feel I made the right choice.
Reasons I like the SGS2 :
1) You can easily flash latest firmwares without rooting your phone through a software called 'ODIN' (so you can flash a normal firmware without the carrier garbage)
2) You can easily get HTC look with Launcherpro with the Sense theme and another app which gives you the Sense 3.0 lockscreen
3) I feel the Camera is better than the Sensation.
4) Initially it felt very cheap and way too light , but you grow on it and I am actually happy now its lighter as my fingers don't get tired holding it for longer period.
5) It has more Ram than the SGS2
6) Not sure about the 3D but I played with the LG optimus 3D and feel 3D is just a gimmick, you can only see it if you old the phone at a particular angle and then again lot of people complain about headaches if they use it for longer periods
Sense is brilliant but then sometimes it feels laggish ..
Just my thoughts but I would suggest you try to play with whichever phone you want to go for as then you will be able to decide which you feel more comfy with

Hahah, almost the exactly same reason as I had to change to a SGS2..
After seeing a friends SGS2 I would heartily recommend it. The phone is a beast!
love hero forever
:O Thats Awesome I think im gonna sell if it comes in Europe / Netherlands
I'm going to say goodbye to my hero aswell and I'll probably choose SGS2.
I've played a while with it, and must say that I don't wanna take little hero back in hand Amazing phone.
I would actually recommend ppl to wait a bit before buying new phone. ICS will soon come, and will be huge change to Android. The hardware buttons will be on the screen which makes those we have today quite unnecessary. Wait for the nexus prime ;-)
sent with love from me to you
I'm going to go for a Sensation XE I think - Galaxy 2 is a damn good phone but I've never been fond of Samsung or the way it looks. Waiting might be a good solution - never know what they have up their sleeves... a new Hero would be awesome
Like others say wait as the sensation xe & galaxy nexus will both be out soon, I'm looking at upgrading to one of them soon and will miss my hero lots but want something faster now.

Well my choices are Nexus S or Desire S. Any advice on that? Can't really go for super expensive phones atm.

Sgs2 has still got better specs than Nexus prime, besides its easier to update SGS2 firmware without rooting via ODIN, unless ofcourse the SGS3 has something better like quad core
How awesome it would be to have a true Hero follow-up by HTC. They can keep certain design elements like a curved chin using a curved screen. Quad Core. No buttons like the Galaxy Prime. With ICS Android 4.0.
Oh, well..or maybe I should just get the Galaxy Prime. I am waiting as well, but would hate giving up on my Hero. It has served me well and is still doing alright.
does anyone want to sell or trade there hero??
I don't think that it's a good idea to buy a hero today.
The main problem is that the hero needs better hardware to run correctly latest sense stuff
It needs better processor, more ram and (as for me) faster access to memory.
It's only a good idea if you don't want to use it as a daily use.
I love my hero, but I guess I will buy an EVO 3D or some better phone to run sense 3.0 or 3.5 well
finally what have you boght?
you guys should rly upgrade asap. i got a sensation and man its a huge upgrade from a old hero. screen is gorgeous, very fast, updated firmware, camera, etc. i cant even look at my hero anymore. lol. its so slow at everything now that ive used a dual core phone. only thing i miss about the hero is the trackball, battery life, and exceptional reception. ill still keep it as a backup phone though
