So I got a notification in the bar stating "Connecting to DM server". About 30 min later, another message stating "Update Available". Well, my battery is about 25%, so it postponed the update. Good thing though, it says to click the "Software Update" in the System Settings when the battery is charged.
See screenshots below.
My friends phone the same issue
My friend has the same issue. So I'm charging it for him. Going to run a log on his phone once we can upgrade it and see if we can get some nice information like a URL and such.

I have adb working at home, cant remember where I got the driver though for the phone. I put the phone in debug mode, hook it up via usb. WinXP pops up and wants a driver.
Where do I get this driver?

Hi again,
Do you need 32-bit or 64-bit drivers?
I have the 64-bit driver package on dropbox, can PM you the link, but I don't have the 32-bit drivers, sorry
I love how it says Congradulations! like you just won the update lottery.
So where would this update file be located? I have Dalvik Debug Monitor running. The only folder that has a change date of today is the "Data" folder. I cannot access anything in it though.
I haven't installed the update yet, if someone tell me the steps to get the files you need, i could help out
If you're rooted -- you should be able to look in /cache for a file named update.zip.

Stock with root (the root stayed)
Running smoothly. I don't see any issues with it. But it isn't my phone and I have lots more stuff on my phone so I will be able to run a better test.
Battery needed to be at least 50%. Updating my phone now.

Any way you could pull the .zip out of the /cache folder and send a PM to s0niqu3? It would help the devs out as I don't believe anyone has done that yet (could be wrong and just don't see it though).

I can not find the update.zip file. The only thing I see is a downloadfile.apk in there. I think it downloaded this file first, then restarted the phone into an installation mode. Well there it did the rest as in downloading the zip file. When going back trying to find it, it is gone. Not sure what else to do. I uploaded to files of the log if there is any smarter people than me that can interpret it.
I've recently bought a HTC desire HD and I'm really dissapointed with the vodaphone branding basically forced upon it. I was looking to install a stock rom of sorts to the device and was wondering if someone could give me a quick link to the guides and order that i'd have to do stuff in.
As I understand it I need to root (not sure if I have to permenantly do so) my phone, and then flash with a stock rom. I'm having a hard time finding a stock rom and also information on whether installing this stock rom would allow me to automatically update, would there be any differences to buying a stock HTC desire HD from a shop.
The rom currently installed is the one for the AU vodaphone Desire HD
Just after the equivalent unbranded one, and any additional steps required to remove the vodaphone filth.
I didn't think Vodafone were branding them quite yet. I got mine from Vodafone UK a few weeks ago and I've got zero branding at all on it.
agreed I have no branding either and I have had 3 DHD's. I was also assured by a VF staff member that all DHD come directly from HTC sealed and VF do not open the box ever before sending out to its customers.
Managed to sort this out, yeah the aussie ones seem to come loaded with rubbish that's unremovable >.<
I ended up loading one of the UK WWE roms and it's working fine now
For anyone curious and new to the process like I was.. I used the perma root method using VISIONary and then I simply ran the setup file of the rom on my PC and it did all the work. Took a little working out but was suprisingly simple.
IF your device isnt rooted then you won't be able to install the rom, it will come up with a user error (somthing along the lines of wrong user id)
What "rubbish" ? Amazon MP3 ? QuickOffice ? SoundHound ? Facebook ? Twitter ? Peep ? That is "HTC rubbish", not "Vodafone rubbish" .

A "Games" app - really a link that leads to a crappy Vodfone Australia website
A "Music" app - as above
A "News" app - as above
A "Sport" app - as above
A "Vodafone" app - as above
Would be nice to remove them and reclaim those names in the app drawer.
I might look for the UK rom myself.

Yeah I did try using a Goldcard but it didn't work for me, may have been user error not quite sure.
As for the "rubbish" apps, just the weblinks that link to the main vodaphone site and a boot logo that's rather slow (atleast it felt like it was slowing startup down).
The HTC stuff is fine, I can live with that.. but broken voda links were driving me nuts!
Over and above the links and apps, Vodafone has also put in a splash screen on boot (which I think actually slows down the overall boot process by a few seconds). I'm very keen on flashing a new ROM but I'm worried by warranty issues since there doesn't appear to be any Australian Vodafone ROMs available as of yet...
Any tips on what else can be done? Are we able to create a backup of the current ROM somehow?
EDIT: I just read through another thread and noticed the boot animation can be altered. I used root explorer to navigate to the directory
'system\customize\resources' and found the Vodafone boot. Unfortunately Root explorer isn't letting me edit that file as it is 'read-only'. I have perm-rooted my phone and granted SuperUser access...

So you flashed using a stock WWE? Which version? Also, were you able to get the OTA update OK?
I flashed mine using a Goldcard recently, and all worked fine, but the OTA has appeared to break my wifi.
Also, i can also back this guy up, Vodafone AU brand the HTC Desire HD's.

I just did this with my Three branded ROM using Root Explorer, in /system/customize/resource/ there was a HUTCH_bootanimation.zip and a bootanimation.zip
I just clicked the Mount R/W button up in the top right hand corner and renamed the bootanimation.zip to HUTCH_bootanimation.zip
Should be similar on Vodafone
You can also unzip play with the logo and rezip then move it to the sdcard and with Root Explorer put it back in /system/customize/resource/
I would like to know which file points to HUTCH_bootanimation.zip (or whatever) as the boot animation zip and be able to just change that instead
thanks for this, im getting a vodafone branded one tommorow and they are putting firmware on it with all the crap vodafone 360 etc. which no one wants or cares about,

I had one of these, rooted it and installed LeeDROID 1.2
Now it is mine and no Vodafone influence
Just be wary or removing ANY old app when you do root, some may have dependencies, some cooks say it is better to freeze an app rather than delete just in case.

OK, so I got my stock Dell streak unlocked Froyo last week and I wanted to unlock it. I read the various threads and it was a bit unclear what worked and what didn't. So here is how I did it for you peeps with new Streaks:
Note: this is for Windows only... (has been tested and works on basebands 315 and 318)
1) download and install the Windows drivers from here:
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Handheld/R288920.exe
2) download SuperOneClick 1.5.5 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=437039&d=1289271263
3) extract SuperOneClick on your hard drive
4) put your Streak in USB debugging mode: Settings>Applications>Development>turn on USB Debugging
5) plug your Streak into the computer - do not mount the SD card
6) right click on SuperOneClick.exe and run as administrator
7) click "Root" and watch the progress and follow instructions.
8) if all went well, you can then find the SuperUser app on your Streak.
If this fails, there are a couple of things that can be done that will likely lead to success. One is to try the above procedure with the SD card taken out of the phone. The other option is to turn the phone off and start the root process as above. When the process gets to "Waiting on Device" then turn the phone on.
Hope this helps...

Hello daesdaemar,
Many thanks for your post. It's a good step by step reference. I am expecting my Dell factory shipped Froyo Red Streak to show up any time soon...
DO you have a list of tips and tricks / tweaks to configure, or install some basic but key apps to get your Dell Streak to optimal run state?
A list like this: Once you receive a factory shipped Froyo Streak, do this:
1. Root it (see daesdarmar's method)
2. Set up keyboard for Swype since it's the best option (or download and replace Swype with latest beta version optimized for Streak 5" screen)
3. Install App X and tweak these to speed up processor frequency
4. Install "Bloat Manager" to disable any un-necessary Dell apps etc
5.
6.
7. etc
I was searching around for a nice list of "To-dos" from anyone who recently received a factory installed Froyo Streak but I can't find a good list around and handy....
Let me know if you can help build one or share one ...
Thanks in advance.

I am a new Streaker, so I don't know that I'm the one to compile a list of essentials, but I did the following in the first day or so just to make it seem a bit better/more personal:
1) rooted
2) Titanium Back Up for freeze/uninstall bloatware
3) AstroFile and File Expert to serve as file managers and connect to my home network
4) QQPlayer to watch videos
5) JustPictures! for my photos
6) Multi Picture Live for wallpaper manipulations
7) Kindle and Aldiko readers
8) Dropbox
9) Extended Controls - nice widget
Trying to figure out if there is a better browser...
Just playing with it and having a good time

I recently got a carrier unlocked Streak with Android 2.2 from Dell. I received it with 2.2 on it. Here's what I've done so far:
1. Root it - see steps in OP
2. Install Titanium backup (paid) and freeze the apps I don't/won't use.
3. Install Root Explorer
4. Changed this line debug.sf.hw=0 to this debug.sf.hw=1 in build.prop. See this
5. I use SlideIt for my keyboard most of the time. I like it better than Swype and I had already paid for it with my old phone. I have been trying Thumb Keyboard for landcape and also have Better Keyboard..
6. I use LauncherPro (donation version) for my home app with just 3 screens.
What's bloat and what's useful is different depending on your needs.
Fantastic and very straight forward.
Thanks so much.

That's what worked for me on baseband 318, using a WinXP pro computer. May also work just by unmounting the SD Card in Menu->Settings->SD card & phone storage.
Even though I was not turning on USB storage when I connected the USB cable the computer was seeing the SD Card as a removable drive in Windows Explorer.

Hello,
Kind of a newb, I'm going to be purchasing a Thrive, and I want to install an app that isn't approved for the device yet. Its called Navionics, its a marine charting application. I've read other forums and someone said they extracted the APK and side loaded on to the device and it worked great.
Now to the question, how do you do that?
Thanks in advance.

You have to download it with a device that is approved and copy it off. The only other way is if someone will provide it to you.
Ok, so I can download it to my vibrant, move it to the sd card, load the card in the thrive then launch it?

Hey everyone I saw some similar requests but it seems that no one has the same problem I'm having.
I've created a Goldcard from a 2GB Kingston MicroSD card and copied sappimg.zip to it.
But when I boot the phone using down-volume+power, it fails to load the updater.
If anyone could shed some light on the issue I'd be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Do you really renamed it to SAPPIMG.ZIP?
MS Windows can hide extensions and you see file sappimg.zip, but it is sappimg.zip.zip and phone does not recognize this file.
Double check that you are using right manual. Why do you need downgrade? It is not necessary
Thanks for the reply, Strogino.
Yes, I'm sure I've named the file sappimg.zip - I have hidden file extensions turned off.
From the two manuals I've looked at (CyanoGenMod wiki and theunlockr.com), I need to downgrade to the 1.5 firmware before I will be able to root it.
You said it is not necessary, can you show me the manual which does not require it?
Thanks,
