Downgrade from 2.3.3 to 2.2.1? - Wildfire General

I recently acquired a gorgeous red HTC Wildfire. My pride and joy. However I recently updated it but THEN I discovered rooting on xda!
Now my problem is this;
How do I downgrade from 2.3.3 and although I just updated and believe it is 2.3.3 it says Android Version 2.2.1 at the about screen.
How do I rectify this?

i'm pretty sure you just updated to 2.2.1 (which is froyo), htc hasn't provided a gingerbread update for the wildfire lol. and if you did do the official update, you can't root.

you can downgrade it, but you have to get your device S-OFF first, check here some one can offer you this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939801

How do I figure out if I am on a leak or OTA 2.1

I got a replacement Eris and it seems root proof. I have tried the master app, the leak method and the manual method and all have failed. Even Verizon didn't seem to know what OS version I was on (so I know what to focus on)
I noticed I was on HBOOT 1.49.0000 which made me think that the phone I got back had one of the leak updates on it, but now I am not sure. The answer to this question should probably go into the main information thread where people can look at their HBOOT screen and software info (maybe) to know what version they are on.
Here is what I think would be helpful:
Android 1.5
This should be obvious
Android 2.1 Leak 1
HBOOT: 1.49?
Software versions
Anything that identifies this as leak 1
Android 2.1 Leak 2
HBOOT: 1.49
Software versions:
Anything that identifies this as leak 2
Android 2.1 Leak 3
HBOOT: 1.49
Software versions:
Anything else that identifies this as leak 3
Android 2.1 OTA
S-on
HBOOT: 1.49???
Software versions
Anything else that identifies this as OTA
Android 2.1 Root
S-off
HBOOT:
Software versions
Anything that identifies this as leak 1
Android 2.2
This should be obvious as well, but if we want to fill that in, that would be good too I assume
Thx!

They ship replacement phones with the 2.1 RUU update, which updates the bootloader to 1.49.0000 and destroys any chance of rooting without jumping through tiny hoops. It is practically leak v3

Not completely accurate....
Bootloader 1.49.0000 will prevent you from rooting BUT I just met a guy who got a factory refurb with Andriod 1.5 and 1.47 on it. (I even offered him $$ for it but he looked like he thought I was selling him a lemon or something).
OK, that's what I feared (that it was essentially v3 Leak). So, following the leak approach in the leakers thread is the only way to do it, right?

Why Froyo is not available for my Wildfire

Am in India, so is my friend
He bought a brand new Wildfire a week before. Accidentally, he checked for System software update and it said, froyo 2.2 is available to him
But when i checked, it dnt show me nothing. What is the problem.!!!!
I already installed many customs roms and then finally came back to the square one by installing the material from Shipped Rom!!!
some light please!!!!
I haven't got an update either..its still stuck on some 1.14.720 $hit
May be people who bought this phone recently have software version above 1.14... (i.e.. 1.25.. or 1.35...) and they are getting the updates now,.
AFAIK no one with 1.14... version have received this update till now in India.
Same problem here. I am on 1.14.720.2. Got this phone from flipkart.
I had 2.1 rooted & could not install new updates. Only after 1.37.405.1 update i got Froyo 2.2 by air.

2.2.2 streak rom question

I just recently picked up a dell streak. It's brand new with what I'm guessing it the latest shipped rom which is build number 15274 running android version 2.2.2
All I see is custom roms and reflashing back to other roms to root....blah blah blah...is there a way to just root my current rom and not have to flash a completely new one? I'm all for supporting the community, I'd just like to keep this as device as clean as possible and remove all the bloatware.

Download SuperOneClick v1.5.5 and root away. Dont forget to put your phone into USB debugging mode before rooting, its very important that you do that. Or just follow the steps in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925853 good luck.
Wow thanks, I totally skipped over that post!!! I guess from what I was reading I was expecting the whole process to be a lot more complicated.
Thanks a ton!
Anytime.

How come Dell don't push out the 2.2.2 version OTA to their customers?
I check for updates every day, but have just once received any. (2.2)
Their way of saying; "we just don't give a f*ck about our customers"?
You should have gotten that update weeks ago. It's been OTA for probably about a month now. And I don't know how much you've read, but a lot of what happened with not updating from 1.6 was probably AT&T's fault because they wouldn't okay the build (speculated). Dell had the source up for 2.2 for a long time, if I remember correctly.
I'm on unlocked stock EU ROM since day one. Just to clarify.
Do you mean the 2.2.2 was shipped OTA, for EU users too?
Ohhh. Didn't notice you were on EU. I don't know if Dell released one for EU yet (probably hasn't since you don't have the option to OTA). Just remember that it's not just the phone maker responsible for updates, the carrier has some say in it, too. Are you still on 1.6? Because you could always try out DJ Steve's ROM if you wanted to try something different.
No, the one OTA update I received, was the 1.6 --> 2.2 on last October.
Since then - nothing. I guess it's only in America people get the 2.2.2.
Thanx for taking time to reply.
No problem, haha. I hope you get it soon
I really want the update to, I'm in the Uk and I'm still on 2.2, I would do it myself but its just to complicated and don't wanna mess up my phone. Has anyone in the Uk got the 2.2.2 upgrade? And to be honest I really wont the 2.3 upgrade, but seeing as we still don't have the 2.2.2 upgrade, I think we'll be waiting a long time :'(
2.2.2?
If someone updated from 1.6, to the "non official" 2.2, is there any difference between it and 2.2.2?
2.2.2 is supposedly immune to the malware loaded from the 50 or so infested apps that Google removed recently from the market.

Hmmm that's really odd, just try to go to a service center there and just have it flashed manually by them or just root your phone and then flash any custom GB build (which is better IMHO than stock ones).
Maybe the OTA update are available in Indonesia only, root it and flash the latest ROM or latest build, like using Virtuous Unity or CoreDroid rom
Just flash it, it is nicer than the stock roms and you have possibilities.
