My ec05 setup - Epic 4G General

So I odin'd back to dl18, got the ec05 update. Rooted with clockwork 2.5.5. Flashed twilightzone 1.0.3 kernal. Installed setcpu, overclocked to 1.2 ghz (1200 max, 100 min on demand). Got spare parts, set transitions and animations to fast. Go launcherpro, just cause I've been using it the past couple weeks. And there you have it! Well at last until the new acs syndicate rom comes out. Its the best most stablest, fastest rom out there!

i got the prerooted full wipe odin ec05, then put nubecoders battery kernel and oced to 1.2ghz with a few profiles and also used to oneclick root to change it to ext4.. i use golauncher and gosms also.
of course used the zip to strip all the bs i didnt want before i even started... battery icon from the acs rom to change my battery icon, quickpic instead of gallery3d, adao instead of myfiles, and the normal spareparts tweaks.
journaling is on..

Is nubecoders kernal stable?

i havent had any problems at all.. its basically bonsai with battery charging tweaks and the ec05 changes added. but he added the camera fixes for eb13 which breaks the video camera in ec05

Ya, im similar, and I'm liking EC05.
Just running Genocide at 1.2GHz and using the Clean SprintID. Not even bothering with LauncherPro or any widgets. I like having a phone that actually works properly and gets good battery life. Everything is going great. 4G, Tethering, GPS all seem to work for the first time. I just want an AOSP lock screen and a battery full/notification killer patch and I'll be happy.
Kinda getting tired of all the custom ROMs. It's been a pretty crappy experience running hacked up Froyos on this phone all the time, and I'm sick of constantly losing all my data.
I am really looking forward to a more functional CyanogenMod port.

Have you tried aosp lockscreen for eb13? I was tol if your deodexed, most eb13 stuff should work...

Agreed,
I'm using stock EC05 with the new genocide 0.5a kernel which he made EC05 compliant. Added SetCPU to play with the profiles and squeeze a little more battery out of it. Using LauncherPro cause I'm used to it. I can easily get through a full day of moderate use without a charge and still have 40% left when I go to bed. Really happy with the phone, EC05, and the Genocide kernel. (wish it had a nicer name though)

well you have to deodex to get it to work, im working on trying to get mine deodexed right now.. so we will see... im also looking for an asop, but i didnt even wanna try sprint ID, I like golauncher, and uninstalled all sprint stuff using nubecoders zip

The clean ID is basically just pure stock froyo. It's pretty nice.
The other thing I forgot to mention is that it is nice to not be forced to use unjournaled EXT 4 like on a couple of the custom ROMs. wireless tether makes the phone crash on many occasions and when running ACS I would lose a lot of data each time, particularly my LauncherPro settings.

im using ext4 but i prefer journaling on anyway.. im using nubecoders kernel because genocide doesnt work with ec05 unless its deodexed. which im working on deodexing right now, but until then.

Genocide 0.5a works on odexed roms. That's how I'm using it.
Edit: it might not work with ext4 and odexed though.

yea it doesnt work on ext4 and odexed with ec05

[Q] Bionix doesn't like superuser...

I just flashed bionix 1.9 ocuv w/ voodoo and it's pretty awesome except that nothing can get superuser now. Worked fine a couple times, now superuser crashes if anything tries to get permission or if I click the "super user" thing in the app list. Anyone have any idea what's up?
Haven't heard about or experienced this problem before. I was using Bionix 1.9 and am now on Fusion 1.1. Both have been really great, stable ROMs and are reflective of the quality, performance, and customer responsitiveness standard that Samsung should strive to meet in their future ROM releases.
It you are still having the problem after rebooting, perhaps redownloading and reflashing Bionix will help. I know it goes without saying, but be sure to disable voodoo first.
Edit: I will add, that I first tried a OCUV kernal and my machine kept having random FCs after running for some period of time. Since moving back to a non-OCUV kernal, Bionix has been great and stable for me.
Good luck!
Try running a "Fix Permissions" in RomManager, and then reboot, if it gripes about root access, open SuperUser first, hit the home button then open RM and run fix permissions ...
Hope that helps, only happened to me once but that is what fixed it ...
I ended up downloading a SuperUser app from the market and installing it and it's been fine since. Kind of a strange problem but hey...whatever. lol Everything is fine right now and my phone is running like a top. Love it!!
Thanks guys!!
Im running the same without voodoo and have never had the problem with su. Is fusion much different than 1.9 FINALE? What is different?
VibranT Bionix
Fusion 1.1 removes TouchWiz stuff, and uses LauncherPro instead. It is MUCH faster, has better battery life, and people are Flashing the JI6 modem over the JI2 and posting over 24 hours of battery life with moderate usage.
Some don't even use a LagFix with Fusion.

DI18 ROMs and custom kernals

hi, i was wondering if anyone is still running DI18 ROMs and custom kernals? is there any advantage to this, since DI18 is 'official' code, and all we have for Froyo is leaked code? or are we better off just running DK28 ROMs? thx
I went back to Di18 from DK28. Surprisingly GPS works 100%, I don't know if they changed something or odin flashed the radio better then stock. The main reason I went back is because games play much better on Eclair. I've been playing a lot of Dungeon Defenders and it plays horribly on DK28, I'm pretty sure since it's a beta leak it's not 100% optimized for the gpu.
I've been running DI18 (ACS) and it's great... but I'm tired of being on 2.1 and actually this weekend I'm planning on checking out an EXT4 Midnight ROM with a Gingerbread theme... If that turns out to be good I'll probably be on that until ACS rolls out a 2.2 ROM
cool, thanks for the replies. anyone have any favorite DI18 ROM/custom kernal combinations?
i've been running Viper's ext4 ROM and i love it.... but i'm curious about custom kernals and such.
The version of ACS that I'm running comes with the ACS Xtreme kernel. It's pretty fast (I'm actually not running the most updated one) and allows the 1.2ghz overclock step which you just flat out can't do with 2.2 until source is released
When I was running 2.1 I had the best experience with Syndicate or Epic Experience. Great speed and awesome battery life. I just moved back to 2.2 on the Truly Epic with EXT4 and its probably the best I've run so far

thanks guys, just curious about maybe playing around with undervolting/overclocking. i might try syndicate or epic experience.

I never gave EE a chance, for no particular reason, I just never had the time.
I heard that EE + Phoenix Kernel was a great combination for battery life but for speed I've heard ACS + Xtreme was the way to go. It definitely is fast and I get slightly better than stock battery life idle, but under really heavy use worse than stock (at 1.2ghz I can't really say I'm surprised)
Who still runs on di18??? Lol just joking. At least there are custom kernels for eclair. I just want my flash and my GPS works so.much better on froyo than eclair.

Big + for flash! That's like 90% of the reason I'm on 2.2 now. Such a shame I could watch live bball & fball on my old WM6 HTC Touch but couldn't on my Epic. I just couldn't deal with that reality any longer lol

I used Phoenix & Viper Eclair rom (Forgot which one)
I'm on stock DI18 rom with Phoenix kernel, only because it is the only rom I'm able to use MobileAP app. But I deleted all LWP, and all of the bloatware. Battery life is good, calibrated and all. I am using JD, setcpu at min/200-max800. Gps works, as well as my games run way better. Staying here til we get our own source code for froyo....not holding my breath lolz!

Who has tried 2.2 and went back to 2.1?

Just curious. I was thinking of going back. My phone used to fly on 2.1. They only thing I did not like was lack of flash player capability.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Until we got the open source kernel with BLN, I was strongly thinking about downgraded (and rather regretted upgrading so soon), due to the loss of BLN. Now, my phone is at least as fast, has all the same features (lacked GPS then, and still do now ), but also all the new Froyo features like push notifications (push = infinitely better for battery!).
I went back to stock 2.1 (EA28) after using 2.2 with superclean 2.9.2. So far, I'm impressed with 2.1, check out the improvements:
1) Browser scrolling is much smoother!
2) Battery life is great without doing bunch of hacks each boot!
3) POP email client actually works correctly and doesn't snap to top of list constantly!
4) SMS looks much better!
5) GPS locks faster than any 2.2 ROM!
Negatives of 2.1:
1) slightly more UI lag sometimes... but not bad
2) Google maps doesnt fully 3D rotate
Overall, 2.1 is better. I'm waiting for official 2.2, hopefully it will address the bugs in the leak. Perhaps it will never come, and then we'll all never buy Samsung again.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I made a post about this yesterday. Every time I mention 2.1 performs better overall than Froyo i get attacked my developers. Bottom line is that Battery/Performance just aren't as good for me on 2.2 as they were on 2.1. Also apparently memory management is supposed to be better but tasker constantly reports low memory and when I clear the RAM it hardly goes down until reboot.
Im back on 2.1. I got sick of constantly battling wakelocks. I will flash Nameless when v4 drops though.
If i go back, I will Root, CWR, and debloat, debing myself. I will also look into an AOSP voodoo kernel for voodoo lagfix and sound. I am considering trying this out. If I do I will let y'all know if the kernel and voodoo like 2.1, i know the rest of the stuff works as i have done it before, and now that we have a fixed CWR, even better, plus i really like the feeds and updates widget.
Went back to 2.1 myself as well

Honestly, after jumping onto the Froyo boat so late in the game from using DJ05 forever, and with kernels popping up, Froyo is as fast if not faster than 2.1 has ever been. Battery life is the same, and the extra 2.2 features are awesome.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
Battery life almost doubled when I switched to 2.2 and it's running quite a bit faster. Best of all is the working gps and flash! Never going back.

Being the noob I am,, so far I've only personally experienced the 2.1 stock verizon bloat load and now SC 2.9 with voodoo. All I can say is WOW,, there is no comparison between the performance of those two,, the SC absolutely blows away the old stock 2.1. So eh no, I dont see ever going back to 2.1.
Now that being said, I've never tried a 'debloated' 2.1 version of a load of any kind, maybe running voodoo filesystem structure,, so maybe that would be even faster,, idk.. But at this point I am so happy with it that I really I dont want to mess with it
I've been back and forth and ultimately I would have to say that a ComaVolted SC 2.9.2 is a lot better than the eclair version of the phone. I get killer battery life and my phone actually works the way it was meant to. I don't think I will be going back to 2.1.
My battery life has increased by a great fold ever since I switched to 2.2. Everything else has far surpassed 2.1 from my experince.
The only reason I would ever go back to 2.1 was if I had to return my phone.

I have reverted back to D101 so many times I lost count. In my opinion there are many things both benifitial and negative for both 2.2 and 2.1. Personally I go for stability, but I have finally got a stable 2.2. And I actually like TW.
D101 is still a good build in my opinion. I would still be perfectly happy running it, but theming and kernels are much more fun.

When I first started all the customization, I was very hesitant. I ran just the Stock EB01 debing/debloat for a while and had zero issues, with the exception that the vibration length changed from 2.1 to 2.2.
Just use Odin 1.3 and follow the instructions if you haven't done it before.
Edit: I am running the Superclean 2.9.2 myself with all the TW aspects added back in, even the live wallpapers. I like the stock look and feel, but I also like many of the Superclean features.
Personally I would hold off flashing anything new until NAMELESS drops. It should be within the next few days and may finally give us the 100% froyo experience we have been waiting for along with edify scripting and the new cwm.
Until then im going to stick with my personally debloated, debinged, detouchwiz-ed , EA28.

By the way,
EC10 is about 70% binary identical to EB01.

To those that don't change roms.

How does stock gingerbread run and if you don't root and just run a stock rom what's your reasons for doing so?
I prefer not to mess with phones but my evo gets pretty slow at times so I change roms to find one that runs the best on my phone.

What exactly have you gained using, "cm7+ godmode kernel+supercharge script" that a stock user would want?
I've flashed CM7 on my Evo god-knows how many times and tried a multitude of different kernels and have never seen performance that is significantly better than a stock Evo. CM7 and custom kernels let me allowed me to overclock but so what? I gained nothing by o'clocking. I've been able to get about 23 hours of bettery life on stock and kernel#15, wifi tether and CM7 came close to that. I'm not saying that stock's better than CM7--maybe I missed something, like the supercharge script!? whatever that is...
So share, what significant improvement do your mods give over stock?

If you are looking for battery life improvements I use CM7 with SZ 2.2 kernel and haven't seen anything beat it yet. Even with stock and lack of Widgets and such. Thus far it seems this has run alot more effectively than anything else I have tried.
The number of system tweaks and customization built in to CM that usually would require a separate app to do is awesome. Instead of having all these apps and workarounds to do what I want, it is already built in to CM.
The amount of support that the CM team gives their mod alone is good enough for me to have switched from stock as well.
Obviously ROMs aren't for everybody but that is just a small tie bit of why I like them.

Search for what I said to use and use set CPU to use conservative governor. I experience a lot of lag in sense but NONE in cm7 using the supercharger script. You can't just flash it one day and expect it to be perfect. Let it sit for a week, condition etc and then you'll see what I mean
Gimme a couple a days to come up with a new sig that is cool.
I can't stick with one ROM,Kernel, or various tweaks because I haven't tried all of them and flashing is so easy. Right now I have kushdeck's ROM 1.0(2.3.3) and tiamat kernel 3.3.8 sbc with viperboy's viperMOD v3 2.3 -75mv undervolt. My battery life has sucked since rooting and flashing ROMs and nothing has really improved it.
I try other roms all the time but always come back

I followed these instructions and now enjoy great battery life.
http://www.goodandevo.net/2011/01/htc-kernel-15-v7-enables-trickle-charging-of-evo-4g-battery.html
Prior to this, I was getting 12 hours with average use. I turned off everything and just didn't seem to matter. After swapping to the kernel recommended in the above post, my battery was signifincantly better. No undervolting, background on, GPS on, WiFi.. I don't use Bluetooth for anything so I can't vouch for that.
I use stock right now because I took the OTA update, but I plan on flashing CM7 once root is gained on it. With all of my apps installed and several widgets that I prefer to use active, I run about 260 memory unused on average, and I typically only charge overnight. I work overnights and use Pandora constantly, run WiFi at home and at work, and leave GPS on. No 4G in my area, sadly, so no ideas on that.

Best battery life for Froyo?

I'm considering going back to froyo from EH17, and I was wondering what would be the best setup for battery life?

Damnn! I think I might stick w/ SRF though only because I like the theme more and I've used it before. (not 1.2, but an older version)
My phone just likes 1.0 more than anything else with the exception of the Vision kernel that borked everyone's phones. Mine included.
I switched back the other day. I like sfr, but figured I would try something new, and went with random rom 2.2 phoenix with genocide 1.0, but kept the eh17 modem. So far so good. Random seems to be set up very good for max battery life. Staying on genocide 1.0 for now, cause after reading through the thread a bit, someone had posted that the rom is pretty much optimized for that kernel. I am, however, looking forward to some sfr 1.3 if it ever drops.

For me the best battery life I have seen is on SRF 1.2 with the twilight kernel. I had nearly four hours of screen on time in like 28 hours.
Best I've ever seen length wise was like 38 hours but screen on time was less than two hours total.
SRF 1.2 is so buttery smooth it seemed like a new phone. Now if I could just get skypes front facing camera to work on Froyo.
Edit: Probably should add I am running JUWE's ram script. I find it easier to deal with and get similar results to V6. Running it at stock speeds so it is undervolted. I have also frozen DRM, SNS, and com.samsung.
I have had no issues now that I cleared all backups reflashed eh17 and eh17 modem and cleared everything before flashing
yes getting to battery, each one is a little different some last a little longer hard core use. to me depends on how many apps you have, where you start actually using phone the most and when not in use, i have settings app and shut down 3g till I need it.
And Everyones Phone is different.
Takes a Little Trying and Finding what Fits You!!!
Thanks everyone. I'm on Urban Regeneration right now and after giving it a daily spin, it seems to be pretty solid.
