New to Android. I am kind of disappointed with the lack of push settings. I thought this thing would be all push integrated with Google and what not. I cant seem to even get gmail to push.
Gmail is push . facebook sync every hour or so. push depends on your email provider.
For Facebook and YouMail, is there anyway to setup push? I see that there is like a beta setting in YouMail for push, but it won't allow me to enable it. I would prefer to have as many things as possible setup for push instead of fetch. Thank you

Hey guys I've been trying out several different ways to get my work and personal(gmail) email accounts pushed to my diamond. So far I have tried GoodLink which only pushes my work email from Outlook Web Access, Emoze which can push both work and Gmail, and I have been tinkering with Windows Live Search Pushing hotmail (I have to forward work and gmail accounts to a new hotmail account for this option to work.) Anyways my question is:
1) Is there a better option that pushes multiple email accounts for WM phones?
2) If not, then which option uses less battery? Emoze or Live Search? Or would I use less battery if I just set the built in email client to send/recieve constantly? (simulated push)
I'm up for any suggestions and insight.

seven is best imho
http://community.seven.com
I've looked all over..and can't find a section that mentions push mail from yahoo, aol, etc.
I'm coming from the iPhone so the push mail works on the Yahoo side and I believe on the aol side.
I know that MS exchange has push feature to the phone but what about the other standards? gmail?
I noticed on Cookies HT there is a push mail icon but that did not work (i take it that's for ms direct push?)
Lastly...is there a setting or app that allows ALL mail to send / receive vs just doing one account at a time (annoying)?
Thank you!
the microsoft direct push functionality (supported on ALL windows mobile devices in at least the past 3-4 years) works with ANY microsoft exchange server.
this means it will work for gmail (i am using it myself!) because google has the exchange server on their end. google itself provides a generic windows mobile tutorial on how to set it up and you can find a video guide on youtube specifically on how to set it up on a stock HD2 (technique should work on custom ROMs too). my only additional advice is to back up your contacts (either to microsoft myphone or using pimbackup) before proceeding because the google sync can also upload your contacts to google, and you don't want your contacts to get nuked in case something goes wrong during the initial sync. another potential confusion you might face is that you will see the labels set up on gmail as folders on your device's client. by default, syncing of folders is disabled, but you can go into "manage folders" under one of the menus when viewing your inbox on the device to pick the folders that you want to sync in addition to the inbox. finally, the first sync may take several minutes (even an hour) depending on the duration you have set up to sync (i use a setting for last one month worth of emails) and on your connection speed (try to use wifi for the first sync).
i don't know about yahoo or aol but if they support the microsoft exchange server on their side, then push email should theoretically work in these cases also.
all in all, i rather like the functionality because it is highly configurable. you can even set up "schedules" such that it works in push mode on, say, weekdays from noon to midnight and switch to, say, 4 hour poll mode while you are sleeping.
then again, i haven't experienced push email on any other device such as the black berry or iphone so my view point is rather limited.
Simply put yes. I have yahoo pop3 servive and get my yahoo mail just fine on the HD2

pop3 in "poll mode" is different from push email, which is what the OP was asking about.
however, for most practical purposes, pop3/imap in quick poll mode (like once every 5 minutes) is really not that bad, but it might adversely affect battery life.
i suppose poll mode is fine for most of us but some individuals/businessmen might rely on quick email delivery straight to their phone so its more logical to consider poll vs push as two separate technologies in discussions!
Do the folders selected to be sync with inbox will sync automatically?

Hi,
I was searching for this and thank you for letting me know how to do it! I didn't know there is a "manage folders" option until I scroll down (Din knew I can scroll down, lol)
By the way, as mentioned above, do the folders selected sync automatically? Will they appear on the mail tab?
Thank you.

you can create an exchange account using your gmail login,if you have it,otherwise you can create a new gmail account and use it for send/receive your mail in push:in gmail web page you must add your yahoo account for check and than configure the exchange as i explane!
pop3 is NOT push. There is a delay. Depends on when you have it checking.
As far as i know, the default windows mobile does NOT support push email for yahoo. If you want push email, use seven like i did. Worked fine on my hd2.
http://community.seven.com/main.php
It will allow push email from yahoo and many others. It is NOT an email app where you read them in seven, but a tool to push it to your phones normal email program. (what you would be using now)
I have been using it for a long time and had no problem.
I thought gmail account and android was PUSH. Why such a big delay when i send emails to my gmail account? Im using K9 email, I have background sync enabled, autosync enabled ive tried every combination within k9 email but I cant get it to push unless I launch k9 email what gives?
Can someone tell me how to configure so I can get email notifications without having to launch k9...I shouldnt have to configure email folders to poll right, since its suppose to be pushed
Thanks..
Even if u use inbuilt gmail client there is a delay... this is what pisses me off.
My wifes iphone with gmail is instant...
Hope this gets fixed with 2.2
I don't understand, my push mail service works like a charm... it's really instantaneous !
maybe it's phone operator dependent, I'm using bouygues 's network in france, with a stock rom 1.6, and the defaut app Gmail !
cheers
It really feels dependent on the network. Sometimes I get it simultaneously with my laptop, or sometimes I don't get it at all, not sure if theres anything that can be done about it.
I have a few questions regarding the native email app, I like the look of it versus the gmail app but does this thing push or pull email? I see somethere where you adjust how often it "updates schedule", does this mean how often you want it to pull email from the servers? For some reason I assumed the emails were pushed?
I've only used the native email app for Exchange and it does do push email with Exchange just fine.
The "update schedules" thing lets you set different email checking frequencies based on the time of day. E.g. push email during your work hours and manual the rest of the day.
I really like the new email interface that comes with the Xoom as well as the new and similar Gmail app interface. However, I also have a non-Gmail account that supports imap push which does not appear to be supported in the new stock email app. To get push email from that account, I am using K-9 which works well with push, however, I much prefer the new stock email interface. My question is, am I missing a setting on the stock email app for push (it is set up as an imap account), or, if not, what is the limitation or reasoning to not have included push in this app?
As a side comment, I did try forwarding all of my non-Gmail email to my Gmail account so I would receive it on the Xoom via push. This worked fine for about a week at which time, I as well as everyone that had sent or been copied on these emails started being flooded with notices that delivery of the email had been delayed (although it had actually been received) but attempts would be made to resend this email for the next few days. With each attempt to resend another notice would be received. My and everyone else's mailboxes were being over-filled with these notices so I stopped forwarding to Gmail and in about three days, at the end of the attempt to resend time period, these notices stopped. The account I was forwarding from was an Apple account (.me). I don't really believe in conspiracy theories but this one has me wondering!

I have an IMAP account. When you are setting it up at the end it asks for refresh interval. I put that to never and it seems to push my email just fine.
under apps at the top right there are two email clients, gmail and email. Anything other than gmail gets loaded into email and is viewed in there. There are also two seperate widgets both of which I have on page 1.

That is interesting as when I tell the regular email client, set up as an imap account, to "Never" check, it does just that....it never checks. I have to go into the app and manually refresh it to get any email. On the Gmail client, a time selection is not available as it is set to sync automatically with your gmail account.

Sorry about that Spawn! I figured out what I did and won't let it happen again!
I, too, do not find that the "never" setting works. I notice on the Exchange seetings there are extra fields to syn with server. IMAP seems to have left those choices out.
