Really?
This is COMPLETELY wrong.
X8 has by far superior hardware compared to any iphone prior to iphone4.
Oh, and show me some iphone with fm radio please ?

We both know that's impossible.. xD
would be nice to have a different OS on our xperia, but i think android it's much better..

If i remember correctly the 3gs should be better with cortex a8 vs arm11 and the much better GPU. But correct me if i am wrong.

We know it is impossible to port an iOS to our X8.. unfortunately 3GS software blocks the processor and it can't run on 800 mhz.. like X8.. just on 600 mhz.. but overclocking is enabled on both of the devices at a cost of battery and lifetime.. lets see an iphone4.. 3 times expensive and 2 times better.. we shouldn't talk about X8 and iPhone4 specs..

lol
that's like asking if america can fit into new york
iphone is out of league in terms of hardware compared to the x8
the software is another story

This entirely depends on your skills to port software and/or on your skills as a engineer.
The easiest method would be to rip the Apple A4/A5 CPU out of a damaged iPhone and then find a way to wire the CPU to the ARMv6 CPU contact pads - of course you first need to get rid of that pesky MSM7227 CPU that's just in the way.
Don't forget that you may need to adapt voltages and that you may need to find a way to connect the pins that are too much on the A4/5 to some other points on the motherboard.
Once you got the CPU up and running (let's say like ... NEVER?) you then need to port the boot ROM to work with the SEMC Delta board ... could be a little bit tricky to decompile the Apple Boot ROM.
As soon as you managed to boot the boot ROM you then only need to port iOS itself to the hardware of the X8 ... can't be that hard anymore if you managed to engineer the CPU into the Delta board and ported the Boot ROM.
If you can get it done don't hesitate to file a job application to the NASA.
</troll>

sorry to 'crash the party' but
why would you even want this?
If you really want ios then buy an iphone or ipod.
that will solve your problem.
To make it a full featured IOS port/remake then following what b.jay and i say might help (thanks for explaining about the A4/A5 CPU to them B.Jay, if i did the same post as you, no one would understand me apart from maybe you and maybe a handfull of devs/hackers would)
You can go ahead an port it if you wish, but redoing everything is such a pain.
plus making an A4/A5 chip/card/cpu specific software compatible with an ARMv6 processor good luck. but the most annoying part is
STARTING IT BASICALLY ALL OVER AGAIN .
I mean, you guys are trying to mod and theme it. but it all started out with a question:
can we run IOS on our X8.
Answer: No
I mean you can research how to port if you want to attempt. clicking here might help you with that
but it will take forever. Porting takes time and effort
PLUS: you need to port the hardware, wifi is also important because, nearly always the first bug that is reported is WIFI! so you wil need to fix that (although i think it is easy, and I could do that if you want )
then create the same theme/interface as IOS. same icons, same interface, just app store still uses android apps (unless you manage to port other 10000+ apps from apple app store). but you would need every system app icons (like for example: contacts, phone/call, messages/text etc) and have the UI the same. But even if you manage to get the CPU working (which would require at least 10 years of software engineering AND have made a ROM before (maybe even attempted/accomplished to port at least a gingerbread ROM). Soooo.....(lol)
It might happen some day, but it will take FOREVER to accomplish. Keep in mind about what B.Jay has posted above and what i have posted if you do attempt to do this.
HEY, before you even start thinking 'its worth a try' you should consider learning some java language. If you have never actually made an app before, then make at least 3 apps, so you can get used to making apps, if you dont know JAVA, you dont know how to make a ROM
If this post helped in anyway then press the thanks button
this post took ages to try and explain in a non technical way (i can make a technical one for people who might understand, it will make it easier for me to do) so you can understand
Cheers

SDK ports are garbage. Anyone who actually wastes time working on them is not all that smart. Nuff said. BTW, when are people gonna stop promoting for r2, getting tired of constantly seeing a new thread about him and his work.
I'm really not seeing the point in this port.
Agreed. Honeycomb is not meant for phones, period.... Will people stop wasting their time on something that is pretty much pointless? This is like shoe horning an elephant into a stroller... Why bother?

Is it cool seeing Honeycomb ported? Yeah to a certain extent. The issue with this thread lies with r2's history on here. This thread is basically "promotional" that explains the negative comments on it...and this thread really doesn't belong in this section anyways.

Some people enjoy having an extremely large resolution, like me for instance. I would love to see this fully functional, as I usually change my density to a rather large resolution so as to make things smaller and have more screen space.
I'm a rom-whore, and I'm damn proud of it
If you read my threads and ask the devs, you will find that I set up bounties, and donate unlike most freeloaders on these forums. And I help some devs test their roms/kernels. My opinion is based on a desire to have our phone be a really cool dev platform but not go in directions where devs try their best to please 4 or 5 ill informed people and then give up. That would just lead to disenchanted devs. I don't think most of us want that...
By the way, I have an iphone, and will be getting a webOs tablet too. You know why? Because its pointless to be faithful to one thing when you can learn from many... Monogamy is meant to be practiced with a spouse, not a gadget... I'm not a fan of any. Just a shameless user of all.
Edit: and I have a galaxy tab

Adjusting the DPI is a personal preference and doesn't change the overall resolution. In my opinion our screens don't really benefit it because the overall size and resolution is small.
A device like the Tab which is scaled like a cellphone screen benefits from the DPI adjustment since it has a much greater screen resolution.
Dell Streak is a fine example of why DPI adjustment isn't needed. Things just aren't right because of the 480x800 screen.

Our Brother has come!

Hello, everybody! I have a good news to us! We will have a twin brother!! Finally W8 has out at Indonesia now and to be a good news for all X8 too because we will have many or much new member! Also the user of custom ROM will up!! But, i get a (maybe) good news from this thread.. EDIT: and may it right...

That say we're going to get a Gingerbread from SE. Not so bad.. Because, if the perfomance after the upgrade is GOOD, we must use it. If the update perfomance is BADD.. , we must use custom ROM.

Is there any difference between those 2 phones ? well other than that W8 is a walkman phone..
So will the custom ROMs still work the same on W8 ?
I feel like getting a X8.. but if W8 is the same... I might as well get the W8 as they have cool colour casings
Yess..... it is same with our phone.... no update .....
It is mostly the same, but here it says it supports wma.

Just upload it to shareplace.com or something.
W8 has a better sound output quality than x8?
Does W8 come with a non piece of **** pair of headphones?
I have a question, will the W8 be able to root and install custom ROM using the same stuff used on the X8 from this forum ?
I am scared if i get a W8... then i couldn't make use of the custom ROM here as it is meant for X8.
sorry if this is a noob question.
as this phone is my 1st Android smartphone.
and i just wanted to get thinks clear before i get a W8 or a X8
So if both of them are basically the same...
Which one will you guys choose ? X8 or W8 ?

but maybe just an update
I won't buy either W8 or X8 because SE support SUCK!

Two is same, they are twins.
But for W8, if you want to use X8 Custom ROM, you must flash your phone to X8. Of course with X10flashtool.

If all of W8 had cypress, maybe Sony want to make an upgrade for W8 and we can port it!
Sony too lazy to upgrade their old style phone and leaving X8 and W8
X8 and W8 have upgrade

How Sony kill their customer? Too hurt! WITH SMALL SPECIFICATION, NOT DUAL TOUCH, LITTLE RAM, BAD CAMERA (BUT GOOD AT IT CLASS)! HUH.... NEVER BUY SE PRODUCT AGAIN. (BETTER BUY SAMSUNG HEHE..)

ice cream sandwich for atrix?

hi all,
I went through search and did not find much about this question on my mind for this week.
its been bootloader unlocked and having gingerbread source code available.
I wonder whether atrix will get community build of ics.
i am honestly bored of f***ed up power management of android on dual cores.
i dont know what is problem here but
NVIDIA is not fixing their heating issues.
GOOGLE is not fixing up power management of android on multicore hard ware.
MOTOROLA the great we know ,is slow and lazy ass to move forward in ics for atrix.
i hate the day when i decided about buying atrix.
its bloody radiator and its heating temp. of 54celcius on normal use.
I am using cherryblur 1.4d and faux 123's optimised 1ghz kernel both latest.
i tried undervolting as well but it still heats up crazy.
I am honestly bugged with it.
may be I am totally wrong about my understanding.
i have samsung focus running mango and i prefer it for casual netbrowsing than my atrix.
I hate the NVIDIA for its heating legacy.
I swear on name of god that i wont touch anything with any kind of nvidia inside.
can we expect atrix to get better power management with ice cream sandwich which supposedly optimized for multicore processing.
I also for a brief time had both heating and battery issues with an over clocked kernel I decided to go to a kernel which was not overclocked I'm getting good battery life with no power management apps running and I never overheat anymore. Maybe ur issues can be improved with a new rom and Kernel?

Its not question of availability.have they upgraded all their androids to latest versions? I dont think so.
I know its carrier who slows down update delivery.
When company is already putting out atrix2, do you think we will get ics that easily.?
I will be happiest of lot even if they declare that they are going to upgrade ATRIX to ics.

My main grudge is why do they not optimize their software to get benefited out of dual core processing? ??
As I am not even remotely related to programming or anything with engineering,I understand it may take time to optimize.

drpratik: well... IIRC, didn't Google buy, or semi-merge with Motorola? That could help with the speed of things. Not to mention the supposed steps that are taking place in order to try to get devices up to date much more efficiently than the current pace allows.
As for optimization for dual-core phones.... you DO realize that there wasn't a SINGLE dual-core android device, let alone a phone, until the Motorola Xoom made it's debut, right? Which came out with Honeycomb... which is more than likely designed to use dual-core CPU's. There aren't really that many updates to previous Android versions shy of bug fixes when a new version of Android comes out. And seeing as ICS will be the first NEW Android OS for cell phones since Gingerbread, i'm sure we'll probably see it sooner or later... but probably sooner. Either officially, or from a modded ROM.
I do appreciate your response and that both ATRIX and XOOM run on same tegra2 platform.
I agree that optimization takes time.
But tegra 2 is out for at least 18 months.
I have high hopes for ics.what I dont like is android can't see the second core also forget utilizing.if android is not able to see also then why not throttle it down and put it into hibernate and use only when software can take benefit it.
I thought my battery is bad.I started using new battery but same result.
Back to point-- Google has bought Motorola for its patents portfolio to fight off apple attack and I will be really happy if this relationship proves fruitful for end users.
Lets hope for best.

I have a better idea:
- Buy an IPhone 5
- Break the outer shell.
- Put all the parts in a Galaxy S2 body.
- Make cutouts for camera, buttons and ports.
- Use tape to cover the empty space in display.
Voila! You have a S2 running 100% IOS..

Enough of noob bashing guys. If you got nothing useful to reply, STFU and GTFO
@OP
The ROM suggested by you is based on CM7 with iOS theme. You can find similar ones in dev section. Try looking for MIUI or CMMIUI based Roms

You have to admit though. IOS is popular as ever and people who don't know better wish they had an iPhone.
Everyone was q noob once and when the aforementioned people see the light so to speak l, they wont even think of IOS.

This is my ANDROID HISTORY.
Its just about using a ROM, not so much of hassles.
We Buy Android to use anything we feel to use on our devices.
So, TO 2nd , 3rd ,4th and 5th Posters...... I have used 550+ handsets in Life and , my Google Play Store screenshot will show u what I am capable of.
U guys comments made u look like fools.
Grow up, this is ANDROID, the Apple Basher, and using the IOS type on phone means bashing those Iphone users by showing off, who think that their IOS is GOD made OS of the World.
LOL....U guys are Android Users, Grow ur brains cos we are Jelly Bean now.

No Issues, Lets Move on .
My NEW CM 10 theme is making a way to this place here .
Hey sunny if u really want ios in GS2 then here u go..
- Flash MIUI 4
- USE IOS Theme + Icon pack
then your phone will become Ultimate I Phone. Go and try it. I already used it and very impressed with it. See the following video
That video is quiet old with CM7 but now it becomes better with Android ICS

This is the ROM for Galaxy ACE and Its Superb.
Its a 100% working IOS on Samsung Ace.
Can our Modders and ROM Developers take the challenge in remaking it for us GT I9100 Users?
After watching the Video in Youtube, I bet everyone will need this for once .
Thanks in Advance .
Sunny

lmao, Its "100%" working because its "100%" Android ...NOT... "IOS".
If you want an iPhone your on the wrong site.
@ Atheist.............I guess you again got the first thread in a wrong way. I wanted IOS look on Android being in Android OS itself.

You never said ANYTHING about a "ios look" or it being on "android". What you said was IOS on a Android device, That is very different.
You cant blame people for misunderstanding what you meant if you dont actually write you you mean. :silly:
You are English people and We are Foreigners.... So a Bit Loose in Grammar....
LOL.
Jeez...
People need to get over with this. English is not first language for everyone and not all may be fluent or grammatically accurate when they post here

First phone I installed a new FW on was my Ericsson T68 when they had the joint venture with Sony and released the T68i FW, I tend to play a bit. I will try and stay on the stock ROM for as long as possible but.....
Welcome aboard, enjoy the Nexus4 Android badboy!
There is slight heating problem you may feel as you are moving from iPhone to android
However, custom ROMs and Google support will make it useful
Welcome to android !

I think heating problems will be the least of my problems!
I do like iOS because most things work and don't need customization. I like the idea of Android because you can get it to do anything you want, I have wasted far to much of my life messing with phone's FW but have gad a break, now to waste a lot more time methinks.

Welcome and the best thing to know about android is forget everything you know about Iphone and dont try and compare it. Also once its in your hand you now own your phone and you have gotten your life back.... LOL
I agree with above statement though, mess around with stock then jump into one of the custom roms if you want more control.... Read up on roms rooting and everything android in the forum
Welcome again

Every phone is different, users of one always moan about what they miss when they change. Been around long enough to know the score.
Looking forward to a new challenge!

I would suggest to root first and then stay stock.
Cause if you do later then you will have the hassle of saving your data.

Check if your device has light bleed, gaps, moving parts, or cracks
And don't get shocked by the display colors. You can easily adjust them with root and a kernel which supports gamma control.

1) Be prepared with your Google account.
2) Log in www.gmail.com --> Click Left corner "Gmail" text and choose "Contacts".
3) In "Contacts" click on "More" --> "Import..." and choose your exported iPhone contacts from www.icloud.com
4) After the import you may want to try..."More" ---> "Find and merge duplicates". This will be the view on your Phone's phonebook. You can manage it from your PC (www.gmail.com) or just from your Android phone.
Turn on your phone and follow the welcome assistance, enter your Google Account with all your contacts already loaded.
Now you are ready to start exploring.......(Update to latest version...if any....try Google "Keep" for Notes...update apps with Play Store...etc).
I'm helping a friend who is coming from iPhone (he had iPhone 1 and iPhone 4) to Android...He will start with a cheap Skyrocket (Galaxy S2 4.5'' AT&T dual core 1Gb ram and a good camera sensor) with 4.2.2 stock (non-samsung) Android called CyanogenMOD.
So i did this with him.
P.S: You may want to disable GPS, NFC, Google maps location settings (Report from this device & Enable location history), Cell broadcasts, in order to save more battery.
If you want to ROOT your Nexus 4 (have administrator rights for your device) please consider that you first will need to "Factory Reset / Wipe" all your Phone (because you need to unlock the bootloader first and that action wipes your Nexus data)..
So...i recommend to do this first. (But it's going to be premature for you....).
And..you can't compare Root with Jaiilbreaking....because "root" concept it's simpler. JB it's another thing....completely different.
I hope it helps...
