Well, tired of these GPS issues with CM7 so I'm moving on. Only ROM I know about is GingerVillain and Mexginger (or something like that).
How are those ROMS? What are the ups and downs of the ROMs you guys are currently using? What other ROMS are out there based on Gingerbread? Thinking about a Sense ROM, but I heard those consume too much battery.
I'm open to anything, as long as they're good with battery life and most important things function. Not too worried about fancy extras.
Have you tried different radios. The gps issues were bugging me as well as battery life, but I spent some time reading about different radios, I this one came up as recomendation to use with CM7, and since flashing it my gps worked perffectly, can't comment on battery life yet though. But you should give it try before abbandoning CM7

Yes, I have tried new radios. Tried about 5 and now I'm giving up. I've done every gps fix known, except going to a old rom, enabling gps, then going back to cm7. I don't know if I should try that, but seems too extreme so I'll give other roms a shot haha.
I would try MIUI. I came from Cm7, too, and always found it, while very functional, to be boring after a month or so of about the same rom, since the nightlies have added few features. I tend to like the battery life and simplicity of MIUI.
I'm currently using GingerVillian. I've used other ROMs, but something about the simplicity of the UI keeps me on it. Not saying the others are bad, just my personal preference. On a normal day(school and work, checking my email here and there and some web browsing), I have gone more than 14 hours on the battery being somewhere 60-75%. Your usage may vary, but I also use SetCPU profiles to help. I'd at least give that one a shot and see how you like it.
The radio is not the fix on some phones clear all data on maps I'm telling you this works I had the same issue i tried all radios then I just cleared the data and cache in my google maps it got a a signal instantly

Gingervillain is a very old ROM based on CM7, it was build from CM sources even before the nightlies came out. It's a good rom, but you might as well be using the nightlies. Gingermex is just a themed copy and paste rom from CM7. Just don't tell that to the devs because they will call you out, lol.
whats wrong with cm7?
this is the way i see it, im not in a position to ***** about how bored i am with a rom, since, well, i have no clue how to make one of my own.
granted, ill voice my findings if something is wrong, because the developer should know about it if it is a real problem or just an isolated incident.
but to say you are bored or tired of a rom....well, either create your own, or deal with it.
think, without deveolpers, you could be using almost stock froyo that came shipped with your G2/DZ device, and really be bored or fubar.
just my 2 cents...
thanks to all devs on all roms, mods, kernels, apps, etc. i will admit that i personally have never tried anything but CM7 nightlies, but the fact that i have many other choices, i respect that and maybe one day actually take the plunge into another rom or one day even decide to man up and try a kernel.
/thread, /rant, sticky my post of thanks, gratitude, and for its overall truth! (LOL)

I know where you're coming from, but if I was with my stock froyo then I would of still had my gps working.
I don't care about what roms have what and all that, I just care about all the important features working, in my case, the gps. Having 2.3 was a plus, but I really don't care whether I have 2.2 or 2.3. I just needed to have root and saw the opportunity to get 2.3. I mean, I rather have 2.3, but it's not a necessity either.
So since there are any many roms available, I won't have to create my own rom or deal with it. Might just go to cm6 or try some different 2.2 roms til things get better.

Yeah, and if you do a gps bug search on CM7 you will also see a lot of people with gps issues even nightly 30. What works for others may always work with me. Therefore, I'm going to a new ROM which has my needs. At the time when I flashed the CM7, it said nothing about a wonky GPS so I thought i was set. Now, a small portion of CM7 users have gps issues.

Like I said above, i was never informed about a gps issue. For most, it works, for some, it doesn't.
Now, can people get off my nads about trying to leave CM7 just because some of you praise the guy and his team.
The entire thread was about trying to find more 2.3 roms since most of you know about all the cool roms and such, now it's about " you're da 1 who did dat to uur phone, no1 told ju to do dat.", except for a number of people who actually posted some useful posts.
One of the things that's ruining xda is little snobs who always swear they're right and have to argue through the web to prove a point, the same ones who take a thread off-course and ruin it.
Just going to run 2.2 again before these trolls start getting their feelings hurt over da webz.
This thread is going nowhere fast and comments are starting to get more negative than constructive.

I'd rather post a quick question to people who are dealing with this frequently, than trawl the web, sift through junk and install something which has lots of bugs.
Cheer up, its not all bad.
Thanks for the link.
you'll have to forgive XDA, recently it has attracted many young people that get bullied at home and school, this is a place they can come and anonymously display their e-toughness. Just ignore them.
btw, i dont think there is a sense rom that has everything working like your stock version. i hope im wrong but i was interested in rooting to use sense, in the development section i couldnt find any that didnt have disclaimers about things that arent working, so i havent gotten to try it out yet. But again, maybe im wrong, and i hope i am.
Without a criteria of what he is looking for other than good and stable it's hard to give a good answer. It's not about e-toughness, it's about searching, putting together an informative post, and reading the forum rules.
'cymru' is 100% correct. All it took was a search and reading comments about what does and does not work, then nandroid backup and try the rom and see if it passes the "good and stable" test.

I'd run a stable sense rom if there was one with Launcher Pro as my launcher... I want sense for the camera, calc, dialer, calander, emails etc. not the launcher. The applications on it are just way better quality!

Well there are some roms that have ported sense camera, and apps.
I do believe my "The Official" rom has them. It didn't come stock with the sense camera, but I had it installed (easy to do from spare parts, plus I have 720p recording).
The best you can do is look for a rom with those things ported over.

I agree with cymru, its not that hard to click one section over to development and see what's there instead of someone making a new thread everytime, and xda agrees. Not a big a deal yes, just saying I agree

Luckily i've been a member for a number of years so don't fall into this category...
If it wasn't for XDA recently attracting many young people that weren't taught at home or school in how to do something for themselves once in a while they wouldn't have to come and anonymously display their e-laziness. Just shut up.

Hi guys, if the battle for whos the cleverist is now over, heres some feed back for the advice given.
I've installed, Evils q&d sensefroyo. Been running it for a few days, its cool. A little buggy, a few force closes, high battery use, no bluetooth, but very usable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730290
Again thanks for the input, hope this helps anyone else who was looking for similar info.
Cheers.
I tried kingxclikz and Paul's r23 roms, I must say the first one is very buggy and there are no ways to use it even for 24h(though I think it needs an eclair radio),Paul's rom is way more stable but the lack of Metamorph themes, trackball mods and BT are too important.
He promised to release a new version soon so all we can do is wait and see!
Ughh. No BT on any sense ROM then?
Is anybody even working on bluetooth for Desire roms? I don't think anybody actually is. There are a few people I think might be capable like Paul but he's busy with other things now by the looks of it
So, with the slow down in rom releases and updates due to stable builds that require nothing more. I thought I'd share the rom that I will be using for more then a day or too...I'm thinking long term here. I've found that I really enjoy ACS roms, Jaimie, King and settling on Koni III. I really like the stability, speed and options for customizing. I've found Koni III provides everything that other ACS roms have, except I really like the coloring and icons. They are smooth and everything functions normally. So i'm kind of freaking out, because now I have to use my phone like a normal person am I alone?

There's even been recent sense releases, in the past couple days. There's konis elite III, dark cocoa, king cocoa, and Vaelpak 3.2 .
To answer your question, AOSP (android open source project) is straight android, no HTC sense, bloatware from sprint. Avg sense rom = 180-210mb. Avg AOSP rom = 60-80mb. AOSP doesn't have any of the HTC Widgets, and has different dialer, email, and contacts apps (among other differences throughout the rom) . I suggest trying it out if you're bored. You'll always just be a nandroid restore away from sense!

That's why I ditched my T-Mobile phones (G1 and MyTouch Slide). I wanted something with a little more options. There wasn't anything better than CM over there although I think they have Desire Z roms in the G1 forums now.
I hope we get some devs to stick around. My decision to get an Evo 3d will be based on who goes and who stays. I'm a huge fan of Aamikam (MikFroYo) and Konikub so if they split there's probably a good bet I will too. Unless they still develop for the Evo. I know many devs who did dev work for the G1 long after they upgraded so it's not out of the ordinary.
My fingers are crossed. If there's no one who can make that 2.3 w/sense update super sexy like they did 2.2 w/sense then it might be time to split.

How come not ready for gingerbread? It's basically the same **** except for the cool lockscreen and the dope keyboard. Coming from being afraid of flashing ANY rom, I flashed Fresh in December, found it to be kinda buggy, then made the leap to CM7 right when RC1 came out, been HOOKED on it ever since. I'm on nightly 30 now and it's pretty dang stable. Make the leap, man
I've tried a couple of Gingerbread roms and ran into the usual Sprint VVM problem. While it's no big deal to call voicemail instead of using the visual, the V30 error that pops up every so often is a pain in the butt. I don't suppose there is a rom out there that won't give me that problem? I've tried the fix's listed in different threads and they (for me) work for a few hours and then I'm right back to the error messages. I don't use most of the Sense stuff, so it seems pointless to stay on a rom full of it. I've flashed at least 1 new rom a day trying to find something....
I havent flashed a rom in almost 2 months now, think ill go flash CM7 this evening though just to change things up a bit.

I have been looking into 2.3 Rom and there are few out there as of today that include gingerbread. I am not sure which is best, what would be recommended by users experience.
I did take a look at the Wiki Page about roms and browsed through the pages.
I would like to get some feedback from you guys that already updated their roms to what would you recommend and pros and cons that you found.
Thank you
Cyanogenmod 7 is the undisputable best. No other ROM will work as flawlessy. A manufacturer could not have written a better ROM. It's perfect in every aspect. If it's your first time messing with ROMs then I would suggest this one because otherwise you will have issues with other ROMs. Besides every function works for CM7. GPS, camera, 4g, etc...
Deck's or Salvage mod are the way to go.

You are telling me that those ROMs work as perfect as CM7? I don't believe it.
Depends on your preference. Sense or aosp? A lot of them still have some bugs but if you search the forums you can find fixes. Just make sure to make a backup before you flash! What may work great for you might not for someone else due to different hardware and what not. Trial and error is the only way!

if you like to tinker and update and check in on responses about issues on a daily basis, a AOSP rom like cm7 is the way to go.

Hardly. Marginally. Barely.
Its not drastic. If at all. Only because it is, essentially, CM7 minus some 'system bloat.' Don't believe the night and day hype.
Nubs.

I've exclusively used CM7 for quite some time now...just switched over to evodeck and it's been a flawless experience. CM7 has given me random issues here and there. If someone asked me which one I would recommend between the two? evodeck for sure as of now. You also get 2.3.4 with evodeck instead of 2.3.3 with CM7.
I've been using Misfit's port of Shift Rom and its amazing. Gingerbread with Sense 2.1=WIN!!! lol

That's a load of crap. My CM7 ROM runs absolutely flawless and so is the case for many many people that use it.

woe! ok, ok you special, everything works for you and i know it is for many but you still the minority...so you flashed cm7 and dont care to flash a nightly or mod it? thats the most fascinating part about CM!
dont get me wrong CM is an awesome developer and ROM but thats the price some have to pay for cutting edge ****!
if you read the threads the majority of posts are issues and how to go about fixing them, not just this thing is flawless and doesnt need anymore updates!
if that was the case you would see stable releases once in a blue moon.
im running UD ROM which is a variant of CM7. i got most things operational but get glitches every now and then, but i know my way enough to figure it out so it dont efffect me much... but for someone inquiring about flashing AOSP i was just voicing my opinion and merely stating that if you are the type to get involved and join in to discuss what can help with the advancement of CM and AOSP, as pros and cons as asked by OP...
dickhead!
My aosp daily is Kings out of this world and my daily sense is Evolvedrom shifted. I second JRE77 though. My phone doesn't like certain roms that work great on another phone. Just use RA recovery, have a good working backup, wipe everything and flash away. You'll find one. Half the fun of being rooted is trying a bunch a different roms. Lord knows I have and still do even though I have my daily drivers
If your new to roms I would try CM7 first. I personally prefer myn's stuff because I like sense better.

I completely understand what you are saying but at the same time I was suggesting a rom that would give hime no trouble bc if he is asking then chances are he is not experienced and does not want all sorts of truble being his first time. I totally understand the testing phase and how that can be fun but you must understand what my POV was.
Well, I flashed to CM7 and all my apps like phone and such were gone. Can you guys please assist

Did you do a full wipe?
"Whoop there it is"
I get an error even trying to go to stock ROM
"it was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the clockworkmod 3.0 gingerbread"
Please help. I am fairly new to rooting and am stock. Any tutorial will do
i posted this over on cyanogenmod but no one answered. its dead over there now, i dont see very many new posts anymore. u guys over here r awsome with not leting go of the hero.
I had cm6 and everything worked ok but was slow. have cm7 now and its fast but don't have all of my functions. I have it working on metropcs and i cant send or recive pics, web works fine. so what rom do u guys think is the best? cause i was going to go back to cm6 but i hate having to go back to the slowness.
its all a matter of personal choice. i usually jump back and forth between nandroid backups of zero hero and cm 7, and both suit my needs perfectly. check out the roms section here, there are plenty of choices, and one rom or another will serve your needs.
edit: if you flashed over to metropcs, you need to load up the stock sense rom and go to ##3282# (##data#) and change a setting in there under advanced, and change the entry that says something like mms.sprintpcs.com to something that works for metropcs. if you google it you should be able to find what you need to go there.
I must agree is it a matter of personal choice...Zero Hero is tops when it comes to sense ROMS, but then you also have TeamHeroC...which is more AOSP with some CM worked in...and then there are the 2 new ones (Ajrty33, and Team Hyrda's respectively) that both seem to be promising.
In the end you really need to sift though the forums of the different ROMS and look at the pros and cons of each, and then turn into a flash whore like myself and some of the others and bounce back and forth from day to day because THEY ALL ROCK!!!
I was thinking about trying that zero hero Rom. but I read that sense Roms run slow on the hero.

They do, but Zero Hero is pretty damn snappy.
I been noticeing that even if u move apps to sd it slows down the phone just the same. u guys agree?
Shameless plug
DX OS Android 2.3.7 RC1 and Zero Hero Sense 3.5 RC1 are pretty damn good
tried zero hero tonight. it got into the Rom said there was no signal and rebooted. so I went back to cm7. going to try the other one in a couples days.

Try to wipe and reflash. Zero Hero is a very good daily driver.
ya I wipe everything. I'm going to try the aosp......or whatever next.
If you like a daily use rom. You can try Team Hydras DX OS 2.3.4. I love its functionality and to me it seems to be the smoothest right off the bat. There are a few concerns I have with it but its nothing I can't live without.
Team Hydra recently released Zero Hero Tweaked. Im loving it. I cant post on the dev forum cause im a noob. But i thought i would show my appreciation here.
Its definitely worth flashing.
Thanks a million
 glad you like it
rom
zero-hero or DX-OS
The fastest, smoothest, most stable ROM I've ever used is deck's gingerbread-hero-deck-1.3 (2.3.7).
If you prefer sense over aosp, that zero hero is pretty nice. I've never used it as daily, though.

I was on Legendary and then SimpleROM but I'm ready for a change as long as it is stable (like the ones I just mentioned). I tried reading the threads but they keep changing and some are very long.
Just wondering if someone knows since I have been on only this 2 ROMs for nearly a year.

Try out CM9.
It's pretty popping fresh.
Also, MIUI.
And in the future, we discourage best ROM threads.
Depends on how you use your phone. CM9 beta 0 is stable for a daily ROM. But If your a power user like on your phone nonstop then you will find yourself wanting a charger.
Also gotta ask the question to you want to move to the MTD side.... best bet is to read up on everything, then test out different roms till you find one that you like.
Sent from a CM9 powered Epic.
If you want a good stable Rom the marcusant rom version3 and the shake and bake theme are a nice combo. Also cm9 is also kinda nice but its still in beta
Threads are long because everyone is trying to butt hurt everyone else, and there are a lot of useless postings (such as this one). Just be sure whatever rom you use has the appropriate thanks, documentation and GPL reference or you will get blasted even as just a user.
Just try them all, go nuts, have fun! Just be sure to do whatever you can to brick your device so you can provide yourself with the logical reasoning to upgrade as quickly as possible.
Sent from my, is it safe to claim, personally semi-tweaked (but not shared) and still therefore kanged??? sammiEpic running some CM9b0 shiznizzle.....
Thanks to all that offered good advise and options.
And to clarify a few points:
1 - I did not ask what was the best ROM (I know better than that).
2 - I respect the advise of the users here and do not wish to try them all. It simply takes too much time when all the ROMs say to wipe everything clean including data. It's a very long process putting everything back the way it was. The last 2 updates I did did not update my programs so I had to install them all manually plus their data. And as some of you may know, restoring from backup is not always a good thing to do.
So... I really appreciate those that provided a few options for me to try. Will do soon. And btw I alway provide feedback to the thread on the ROMs that I try. Comes from being a technology administrator for many years.
Thanks again,
tsp

CM9! Seriously it's ****ing ICS and you will be surprised by how stable it is. There are bugs but as a daily driver I personally haven't run into any.

In order for someone to answer this you have to let people know how you use your phone. Are you hooled on the Touchwiz interface? Then it would require some work and getting similiar apps for CM7, CM9 or any other AOSP ROM. If you just want to update to the newer firmware and like how your phone is running now, then Sleeper or CleanGB. If you need more app space then you want to go to an MTD ROM like CleanGB MTD. At least read the OP's of any ROM you are considering to know all the features.

CM9 ICS
I've been using CM9 ICS since alpha 2 and I had to Odin my phone back to stock for some weird reason. It was so strange seeing the stock interface after using ICS. "I can't swipe notifications away? What is this vertical scrolling? Bloatware???" So yeah, beta 0 seems good enough for me for now, plus the battery life is way better than stock.
CM9 for sure. The only real issue was the phantom voicemail but there is a fix for it now (as of today).
Loving the CM9. It's like a new phone!

Tried CM9 and it was allot more stable than I expected. However it still needs work and is not as solid as stock. The lag overall started to annoy me along with other things like garbled text messaging, 4G issues, occasional reboots, and no visual voicemail, but the devs are doing a great job.
I am on Clean GB right now and will jump back to Thunderhawk when Random updates to El30.
Dont flame my opinion, please.

Hmm, No. I tried the RC0, but not the Beta. I think I am picky and just need everything to work as good as stock or better.
