So, with the slow down in rom releases and updates due to stable builds that require nothing more. I thought I'd share the rom that I will be using for more then a day or too...I'm thinking long term here. I've found that I really enjoy ACS roms, Jaimie, King and settling on Koni III. I really like the stability, speed and options for customizing. I've found Koni III provides everything that other ACS roms have, except I really like the coloring and icons. They are smooth and everything functions normally. So i'm kind of freaking out, because now I have to use my phone like a normal person am I alone?

Try making, or tweeking Icons (I prefer tweeking) on Photo Shop, or Gimp. I find that it helps with the downtime. This really does suck tho!

I'm not sure what everyone means by 'slowdown in rom releases'. I can't keep up with the new releases! Just off the top of my head, in the past few days, we have seen new releases of : salvage mod. Savaged Zen. MIuI. Dark cocoa. Elite III. Virus airbourne. Destroyer sequel. Evervolv nightlies. Cm nightlies. King cocoa. Unleashed R3. Kings gingerbread rom. And there are more. So, inform me how that equates to a shortage?! Haha, I literally can't keep up with trying g them all out!!!

Agreed! Just in the past week we've had like 4 completely different aosp rom releases. All of which are phenomenal and have different things to offer... If your not into aosp, then yes, rom development has slown down a ton on sense, but thats ecpected when you have ideal developers who work there ass's off for perfection

There's even been recent sense releases, in the past couple days. There's konis elite III, dark cocoa, king cocoa, and Vaelpak 3.2 .
To answer your question, AOSP (android open source project) is straight android, no HTC sense, bloatware from sprint. Avg sense rom = 180-210mb. Avg AOSP rom = 60-80mb. AOSP doesn't have any of the HTC Widgets, and has different dialer, email, and contacts apps (among other differences throughout the rom) . I suggest trying it out if you're bored. You'll always just be a nandroid restore away from sense!

I love aosp, but i'm not ready for gingerbread and 6.1.2 just won't due! I agree flashing is annoying but addicitng, sad sad techie world I live in with my phone flashing and my MUD games....
I've got so many Nandroids backed up on my computer that to pass the time I just restore one every day or two. I'm running KES III right now and I'm happy with it...we'll see how long that lasts lol!
Just imagine the flurry of ridiculous this forum is gonna be when we get Gingerbread w/Sense this summer.
Myn, Mik, Koni, King, Vael and all our other sense devs are gonna be blowing the place up. I can't wait!!!
SInce I've had my Evo, I haven't gone more than 3 days withuut flashing something new. And I'e had them all, sense, Miui, The various CM Roms, but I've also settled on Koni III aqs my daily, until something new enough to catch my eye comes out.

I hope you're right. I fear we may lose some devs to the Evo3D, or some other devices that are soon to be released. If the devs stay, so will I. If they go to Evo3d, I will follow. I love messing around with my phone, and need a strong dev community to fill my unsatiable flashing needs.

That's why I ditched my T-Mobile phones (G1 and MyTouch Slide). I wanted something with a little more options. There wasn't anything better than CM over there although I think they have Desire Z roms in the G1 forums now.
I hope we get some devs to stick around. My decision to get an Evo 3d will be based on who goes and who stays. I'm a huge fan of Aamikam (MikFroYo) and Konikub so if they split there's probably a good bet I will too. Unless they still develop for the Evo. I know many devs who did dev work for the G1 long after they upgraded so it's not out of the ordinary.
My fingers are crossed. If there's no one who can make that 2.3 w/sense update super sexy like they did 2.2 w/sense then it might be time to split.

How come not ready for gingerbread? It's basically the same **** except for the cool lockscreen and the dope keyboard. Coming from being afraid of flashing ANY rom, I flashed Fresh in December, found it to be kinda buggy, then made the leap to CM7 right when RC1 came out, been HOOKED on it ever since. I'm on nightly 30 now and it's pretty dang stable. Make the leap, man
I've tried a couple of Gingerbread roms and ran into the usual Sprint VVM problem. While it's no big deal to call voicemail instead of using the visual, the V30 error that pops up every so often is a pain in the butt. I don't suppose there is a rom out there that won't give me that problem? I've tried the fix's listed in different threads and they (for me) work for a few hours and then I'm right back to the error messages. I don't use most of the Sense stuff, so it seems pointless to stay on a rom full of it. I've flashed at least 1 new rom a day trying to find something....
I havent flashed a rom in almost 2 months now, think ill go flash CM7 this evening though just to change things up a bit.

I have gotten tired of flashing..
i have the same exact problem, it seems as if there is always a good rom! Sense is good but battery consuming, CM is good but not flashy enough, everything else i flash is either a theme or an enhancement. It never ends!!!!
I've actually found one to stick with for a while. I haven't flashed in almost a whole day. Sense included and its not totally draining my battery. I'm on luv lol.

How did you manage to do that...is it your kernel, can you tell me which rom you are using because the only sense rom i like , myn warm two point two, is draining battery
The last Evo rom I was on was Koni's Elite Series III. Even my husband switched to it. I've changed to an Epic now, so my search starts over.

So it looks like they both have working 2.2 builds out in the wild now. My question is which one is better, or which one are YOU going to use? Let's try and keep the comparison here, that way we don't clog up both of these wonderful dev's threads.
I have never used either since I'm still stock. What was the general consensus before their new 2.2 builds?
I wouldn't know. They both have a huge following though. What I have noticed is that each one has very loyal followers. It almost seems as if its "either one or the other". But since it is now 2.2, it is a completely different ball game.

Fair question, but somewhat irrelevant in my opinion. My experience with stock vs cooked ROMs (MT3G CM6) is that the only real advantage is better speed. Sure, a few different user-experience changes, but that's all. An the stock ROMs are far more stable.
My stock Vibrant is already plenty fast. I'm rooted and can use root-only apps. My Dolphin browser already displays Flash. JIT will make it technically faster, but will I actually notice..? What would Eugene or TeamWhiskey add to that...?
Have not tried either but am running fusion by team wiskey with there kernel. Phone runs to good to worry about 2.2.

This statement is very inaccurate. When was the last time you installed a bionix rom?
I'm running the 2.2 and it is flawless. 2.2 offers a lot of improvements over 2.1 besides flash. If you don't know what those are then you really shouldn't be giving uninformed information.

Which one looks like stock? Both? I really despise the all black theme I see on the 2.1 Bionix roms. It just looks tacky in some places like the notifications pull down and it's too black. I see Macnut looks kind of like stock.. no screenshots included with either tho. Either way I've downloaded Macnut and I will be installing it ASAP. I'll try the other 2.2 rom next..

2.2 is A VERY BIG update. I dont know about Vibrant, but it should improve battery, it should run faster due to JIT, it has MANY extra features, and its compatible with 2.2 apps (new Gmail, Chrome-to-phone, youtube, flash...etc). move to 2.3 is not that big
that said, i trust TW more then Eugene.
Personally I think it's too soon to be worried about which one is better for general use. I'd give it a little time for each to get some additional polish unless you just enjoy flashing roms all the time every time a new one comes out. Chances are there'll be bug-fixes and tweaks to both in the next few days. Wait for that and more feedback from the early adopters and then decide...
When I got my phone used it had Eugenes rom on it, but I felt Bionix and team Whiskeys roms have been the best roms besides CM.
Put it this way I have only donated to 2 developers, #1 CM and #2 Team Whiskey.

It isn't flawless. Calendar doesn't sync. Holding back results in a FC (new screenshot feature not implemented properly). I've had inconsistency in the market. Don't get me wrong, I'm using it and I like it, but don't throw the word 'flawless' around so easily.
If you remove screencapture.apk that fixes the back button long press fc and you need to install calendar(something).apk to fix sync issues..
It all comes down to personal preference. My experience with Eugene's 2.1 ROMs are that they're TOO skinned. I personally prefer Team Whiskey.
To answer your question about which looks more stock, Team Whiskey hasn't really skinned the Obsidian ROM all that much, so it basically looks like Stock TouchWiz.

there is a fix already for both
I was using Macnut R7 and was about to flash R9 but Team Whiskeys downloaded faster. The major difference between R9 and 7 is, wi fi calling, modem and working gps with some minor tweeks.
If that is true then my comparison won't be too far off.
The biggest difference between the too is that Team W is a near perfect leak of the official 2.2 rom and Eugene's has some mods like built lag fix and a modified version of T.W. which for the most part is better than stock (not perfect but better; in my opinion)
That should really be what makes you choose which one you want.
Secondary things to think about is that, whiskey roms are known for getting official ota's which is nice if you want to get the official with little work, but its still kinda glitchy and slower than Eugenes, but not in a bad way. If you are running stock without a lag fix then you won't notice much. Eugene's rom is highly modded and some stock things won't work like if you still have avatar on your sdcard, and since his is a port there are some remnants of I9000 and cappy things floating around that can throw you off. But it is less glitchy atm and too me looks better. It has a lightly themed Modified TW. But you can get and install that yourself if you want there is a link in the macnut thread.
Hope that helps. I'm Running tw's rom now but I'm going to check out R9.
I'm fairly new to the Shift scene, coming from an Evo. Often I read on these threads that the Sense ROMs give better battery than CM7, which I have found to be true..I just think we are improperly labeling them as "Sense ROMs" rather than "Froyo ROMs". When I had my Evo, Froyo also got much better battery than Gingerbread..because of this I wonder, has any Dev ever spoken of creating a plain jane AOSP Froyo ROM/Kernel? I imagine a Froyo rom would be much smoother, better battery, and less bugs..just as it was on the Evo.
PS. Can anyone point me in the direction for a "how-to" on ROM creating? If no developers are interested in a Froyo build, I'm willing to take my n00b self to school, lol
Check out the HTC Android Kitchen over in the general section it takes a lot to set it up but has support for evo shift and there is a lot of info about it.

Sense is the UI overlay used on android so they were labled right, aosp is currently on 2.3.4 so no downgrades coming this way we are in the same boat as the evo was at launch it will take the devs time to get aosp gingerbread to its full potential but over all I'm really impressed with cm7 and very thankful for toastcfh!

I hear what you're saying..I really didn't mean that they were really mislabeled as much as I was trying to make the case that when it comes to battery life I believe that Froyo is simply better than Gingerbread..poor choice of words I suppose..I'm not trying to take anything away from the fantastic development that goes on here in regards to CM7. Having just come from an Evo in the last 2 weeks I've tried every rom available in that section and always found myself going back to CM6 due to the super speed and fantastic battery life.
I understand that 2.3.4 (and beyond) will be the future. I'd just like a solid, stable, AOSP to run till gingerbread is fully there. I don't reasonably expect any developer to take this on, that's why I asked for advice on where to go. I'm reading up on kitchens now because I'm guessing I'm in this alone, lol..I may succeed, I'll probably fail..but at least I tried lol
Edit : thinking about it I'm sure there are others here that believe Gingerbread to be stable..I just haven't had much luck with it. Whether it be battery life, gps issues, force closes, etc..
I hear you on the 6.1 for the evo it was my favorite and if I knew how to do it I would I just don't have any clue on development so I'm stuck with cm7 which isn't bad just not perfect
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Working with the kitchen is pretty easy the coding is built in and it gives you a lot of options. Just work with it for a bit and try different things. Also I use different kernels from time to time to compare and mess with the clocking speeds setting up underclock when the screen is off to save battery. Mine right now overclocked to 1491 max min 364 normal and screen off 364 max to 364. Using evervolv and my battery last all day long med. To heavy use. I haven't had any problems with FC.

Tried with froyo base and fail, tryed with cm7 gingerbread base when it was 2.3.3 just like the sensation ports are. Still nothing. Wish i knew how to go further but im stuck in recovery trying to flash with an "Expects 4 args got 3 args. Or expects 3 got 2." Was different between the two bases. Anyone wanna help!?

Would that be the same as a live cd? That was my plan to go with this weekend.
So I would like the latest and greatest, but seems like so many roms being released in dev forum are missing a lot of functionality or broken. The only rom that I ever kept and still am using is called "Koni's Elite" something. Is there a sense 3 rom that has gps,4g,sprint hotspot, gapps etc etc all working? Why do people even release broken stuff in the first place.

The Elite 3 is sweet he is coming out with a Elite 4 be4 long. The latest rom's aren't really broken they are built off the latest OTA leak and some other leaks. So it's all for eye candy and something new for people to mess with.
Until sprint does the OTA update the latest roms that are built off leaks are buggy. They are waiting on sprints OTA to get all the info and fix all the bugs that are in the builds so until then they are just working with what they have.
Try kings rom or CM7 there nice. The Devs do what people wanna have and see and have. They want more eye candy something new even if it's broken or buggy. So there working pretty hard to keep things going.
No there is no sense 3.0 that is out or anything that is built off it that isn't bug free yet.
Hope this helps PM me if you want to know of some other roms that not buggy and are nice.
CM7 is all you need...........
CM7 is great to use waiting till they fix most of the bugs or till the next stable build comes out. If you use CM7 keep it update they had to fix a security issue with the older builds. This is a sweet rom tho. Nice clean.
King's rom out of this world is fast decent battery life.
Virus rom's are nice.
Look in the Dev's list wiki.
Myn's Warm Point 2.2 is sweet
Mik's Rom is fast and looks great.

Go back to stock and stop taking up space in the general forum with questions which should be in the Q&A forum.
Really? These people put in their free time without pay DEVELOPING rom's to work on our phones. That is why it is called development. They release it to us "broken" so we can test it and help them in the development, and because it is fun for us. If it is that much of an inconvenience for you then either don't flash it or develop a ROM yourself that is bug free. These guys work around the clock to try to bring you the latest ROM/leak free of bugs. It is not as easy as you might think.
Lol there are still good roms out there im happy we get to test things without having to pay a big ass feee to try. Since it's free and you can edit it makes it a playground for good stuff to happen oh yea
CM7 is the latest and greatest (AOSP) and is fully functional minus 720p recording.

Thanks. I've done a couple of basic Evo roms, but I really don't have too much free time on my hands these days. I have two little kids at home, and working full time, plus 2 part time jobs to pay the bills. It's expensive to pay rent and support a family here in California -- super expensive!
So I'm in a debate right now, currently running miui 1.5.6 and I love it. Alot of things about it are nice simple and flawless , ui is simple to manage and has great little effects. But cm7 gb was my first rom I used and GPS worked fine unlike my miui atm, little things about miui are starting to tick me off even though its not 100% ready. ( pretty sure I read that some where on here). Anyways any thoughts on which one I should use as a daily? Cm7 easy to theme? I'm still new but open to learning. Thanks again.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Why would you ask others their opinion on which rom you should run? People that rum miui will tell you to choose, and the same for cm
Just try out all the roms, and see which one you like.
And you can go to evo 4g themes subforum for plenty of cm themes
If you like AOSP I'd say roll with cm7 as your daily driver, but keep in mind miui is plagued with most of the same bugs in CM7. There's a ton of theme starter guides out there it should be easy!
I wonder how many threads have this exact title?
Haha noobs right? Yes I'm ragging on myself but its whatever. And just looking for opinions on pros and cons of both from the "pros" out there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think MIUI has 4G. So if that's not important to you, yeah, I'd think about it. If you get 4G almost everywhere you go like I do, go with CM7.

As of now, MIUI doesn't have working 4G. And my vote is CM7...clean, smooth, everything works...
Unfortunately, Tulsa doesn't have 4g, well they do but its only on a busy street called memorial, and it runs for like 3 miles or so. Other than that no, so sticking with MIUI would not be the worst idea. Just need to learn how to theme CM7. The "classic" look isn't for me. Prefer MIUI ui.

What up?
I can get a signal at 81 and Sheridan, and as far east towards BA that I can get the signal is 81 and Mingo.
But I would pick CM7.

So... you are telling us that you have MIUI on your phone right now and have been using it, and that you had CM7 as your daily driver already for an extended period of time? But even after using both as your daily driver you somehow still are unable to figure out which one you like and you want us to tell you which to use? Wow.
You are using MIUI now but you are clearly not happy because you long for CM7.
Switch to CM7.
There are you happy now? You have our permission to do what you clearly wanted to do in the first place.
BTW both MIUI and CM7 are buggy. Welcome to ASOP roms. If you can live without the minor bells and whistles of ASOP a Sense-based ROM is almost always more stable and better with your hardware(for example your videos look like crap on all ASOP roms cuz no one has figured out how to get the 720p recording to work).

Feel any better now? NOT asking you to tell me, just asking for opinions, Jesus. Just wanted pros and cons and I understand that they bug out.

Had my sultrySupersonic for less than a week, first ROM i loaded was Destroyer 2 (modded CM7 build). No complaints, no bugs (not sure what these bugs people speak of are). Took a little while to get it themed to how i like, but it's fantastic. I average 2.2 %/hr battery life.
When i saw my buddy running MIUI on his Dinc, i had to try it. LOVED it. The 2.3 build was actually buggy for me, and the 2.2 build was pretty laggy compared to CM7. Ultimately what killed it for me was the batt life. Nothing can compare to my D2 build on my Evo.
Every phone reacts differently, rock them both, play with it, let the Haters Hate. Only you can decide.
HaHa. Interesting thread!
I'm going to say try them back and forth, make a pro and con list on a piece of paper, then stick with MIUI! lol

Ha I love the MIUIs UI, and how you can choose some themes people have created. But all in all cm7 is working the best, battery life is flawless. GPS is on key. Still going back and forth but seems CM7 is on key for me. Just still learning on the theming part.

While not as invasive as themes in MIUI, the themes in the T-Mobile theme engine for cm7 will allow you to really customize the look to your liking.
My vote is for CM7. In my opinion it is more feature rich and less buggy. Only disadvantage is its not quite as "pretty" as MIUI, otherwise everything else is better for my use.
Tapa tapa tapa
IF, and I do mean if, they get 2.3 MIUI perfected I will switch back to that. I liked how it felt and looked.
But, having been using CM7 for a few months (I was not a fan of CM6), I am really starting to dig CM7. I don't think any other rom I have tried feels like a ROM that would have come on a phone. What I mean by that is, there aren't many bugs and it looks legit. The customization is pretty awesome too. I just wish CM had things like visitor mode, or some sort of sneaky mode where people couldn't look through your stuff if they pick up your phone. I don't like having to enter a code on my phone to get into it, but I hate that anyone can see anything if they pick it up.
I was on Legendary and then SimpleROM but I'm ready for a change as long as it is stable (like the ones I just mentioned). I tried reading the threads but they keep changing and some are very long.
Just wondering if someone knows since I have been on only this 2 ROMs for nearly a year.

Try out CM9.
It's pretty popping fresh.
Also, MIUI.
And in the future, we discourage best ROM threads.
Depends on how you use your phone. CM9 beta 0 is stable for a daily ROM. But If your a power user like on your phone nonstop then you will find yourself wanting a charger.
Also gotta ask the question to you want to move to the MTD side.... best bet is to read up on everything, then test out different roms till you find one that you like.
Sent from a CM9 powered Epic.
If you want a good stable Rom the marcusant rom version3 and the shake and bake theme are a nice combo. Also cm9 is also kinda nice but its still in beta
Threads are long because everyone is trying to butt hurt everyone else, and there are a lot of useless postings (such as this one). Just be sure whatever rom you use has the appropriate thanks, documentation and GPL reference or you will get blasted even as just a user.
Just try them all, go nuts, have fun! Just be sure to do whatever you can to brick your device so you can provide yourself with the logical reasoning to upgrade as quickly as possible.
Sent from my, is it safe to claim, personally semi-tweaked (but not shared) and still therefore kanged??? sammiEpic running some CM9b0 shiznizzle.....
Thanks to all that offered good advise and options.
And to clarify a few points:
1 - I did not ask what was the best ROM (I know better than that).
2 - I respect the advise of the users here and do not wish to try them all. It simply takes too much time when all the ROMs say to wipe everything clean including data. It's a very long process putting everything back the way it was. The last 2 updates I did did not update my programs so I had to install them all manually plus their data. And as some of you may know, restoring from backup is not always a good thing to do.
So... I really appreciate those that provided a few options for me to try. Will do soon. And btw I alway provide feedback to the thread on the ROMs that I try. Comes from being a technology administrator for many years.
Thanks again,
tsp

CM9! Seriously it's ****ing ICS and you will be surprised by how stable it is. There are bugs but as a daily driver I personally haven't run into any.

In order for someone to answer this you have to let people know how you use your phone. Are you hooled on the Touchwiz interface? Then it would require some work and getting similiar apps for CM7, CM9 or any other AOSP ROM. If you just want to update to the newer firmware and like how your phone is running now, then Sleeper or CleanGB. If you need more app space then you want to go to an MTD ROM like CleanGB MTD. At least read the OP's of any ROM you are considering to know all the features.

im running marcusants nexus s port and its really stable and everything besides voice search works
CM9 ICS
I've been using CM9 ICS since alpha 2 and I had to Odin my phone back to stock for some weird reason. It was so strange seeing the stock interface after using ICS. "I can't swipe notifications away? What is this vertical scrolling? Bloatware???" So yeah, beta 0 seems good enough for me for now, plus the battery life is way better than stock.
CM9 for sure. The only real issue was the phantom voicemail but there is a fix for it now (as of today).
Loving the CM9. It's like a new phone!

Tried CM9 and it was allot more stable than I expected. However it still needs work and is not as solid as stock. The lag overall started to annoy me along with other things like garbled text messaging, 4G issues, occasional reboots, and no visual voicemail, but the devs are doing a great job.
I am on Clean GB right now and will jump back to Thunderhawk when Random updates to El30.
Dont flame my opinion, please.

Hmm, No. I tried the RC0, but not the Beta. I think I am picky and just need everything to work as good as stock or better.
