1 out of 10, 10 being the MOST improvment what woudl you say you saw after? and which ROM are you using?
It will be interesting to see. I only rooted with aroot. No custom rom.
when i say ROMS, i mean the ones posted in the android dev forum here. more like tweaks, like the gingerblur one, etc...

Tbh they don't offer that big of a difference when the phone is on Motoblur there is no lag anyways its just ugly, but Adeo is nice and root is essential imo.
I'm rooted with Gingerblur (latest version) and have many tweaks installed and there really is no lag. There wasn't much lag before with MotoBlur for me but it seems to run better now.
i don't know yet....i'm afraid can't get back :S....I only root my phone with superoneclick and give permitions for isntall non app market

im getting ALLOT of lag unlocking the phone, and i am getting it when typing in whatsapp..
and sometimes pressing an app on the home scree, it freezes a tad, and the box pops up to ask if i want to delete it..
im on 1.2.6 (i think that is the correct one) should i update to that leaked sbf?
what were the fixes in that leaked sbf anyway?
Don't expect too much performance wise out of the current ROMs. You can get a custom launcher and locker that will help with some of the things you complained about... then just use titanium backup to freeze all of the motoblur stuff. In terms of performance, that shouldn't be too different from installing something like gingerblur, as far as I can tell. That should help with the problem with launching apps and unlocking.
The other issue (lag with whatsapp) seems like it would be most likely related to the app itself... blur running in the background might affect it slightly, but shouldn't make that much of a difference.

then i can refreeze all the apps and blur stuff..

So, down and to the point... what's the best ROM out there? I'm looking for performance and battery life (I know they're usually negatively correlated) but the best balance of both.
Thanks in advance...
obviously, it all depends on what you're looking for, but my money's with Fresh.

try them pick the one u like and use it SIMPLE
I've played with all of them and the best for battery life, signal and over all just awesome is DamageControl 3.2.2.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=700649
I really like AOSP, so Bugless Beast has been nice. I don't really dislike the HTC homescreen or lockscreen, but I don't like the contacts, text messaging app, music app, browser, etc.
However bugless beast has some rough spots, there is an fc that shows up once in a while (not a problem, just annoying) and it doesn't show up as a usb drive on the computer all the time.
Fresh is probably my second favorite, and it isn't far behind even though it is almost straight Sense. I see a lot of people say it is their favorite. It seems like it may be the most robust and stable custom ROM as well, but I haven't tried all of them, only half a dozen or so.
I like Bugless Pete's...
but moved on to Fresh because I like Sense. Plus I like the fact I can use apps2sd.
This is a matter of opinion. You need to decide for yourself. I am using Culkulins ROM and really like it. In b4 this is moved to general / q&a
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Only tried Fresh and Damage Control so far but I like DC better, I could tell an immediate difference in performance, unlike with Fresh. Both have Apps2sd which is a must for me. Apparently this phone has more app storage than most other Android phones, yet not even close to enough for me. I couldn't even put any graphic intensive games like Asphalt on before apps2sd due to lack of room.
Damage Control works great for me as far as 2.1 roms. Just look at the activity for that thread.... most popular IMO and for good reason with all of the dconfig options and updates. They were one of the first to incorporate the OTA update into their rom... they stay on top of things.
So Frech has the HTC Sense? I'd like that.
Also, will installing these different ROMs wipe my data? If so, what backup utility you recommend?
I like the fresh rom, but i'm using DC atm because of the OTA update built into it, i need the grounding fix but when fresh fixes it i'll be moving back.

I use titanium backup for the app data backup/restore and android commander for the app program backup/restore.
Damage Control also has Sense, though you have the option to disable it.
In case it hasn't been said enough yet - DamageControl all the way. Awesome ROM!
I dont mean to be a d**k but you have to read and experiment on your own. There's no such thing as the "best" rom. Clearly all the devs here put a lot of work into their roms and the least you can do is try it and see which you like the most. Are you even rooted?? Your questions give the impressions that you don't even know the basics of rooting or installing your own roms...read the stickies
and yes both Fresh and DC have the Sense UI
I use a modified Damage Control myself
Added in the latest busybox, Bash 4.1, made some tweaks to dalvik-cache to make it use the cache partition instead of the system partition (seriously, the cache partition is ~160megs and barely gets touched normally ), among other things.
It is worth noting that Damage Control (in my opinion) is quite good itself and stays pretty up to date, with a lot of nice features.
DamageControl my fav so far.

I understand, but I figured that by seeing what the recommendations are, I'd be able to exclude some unmentioned ROMs. Makes sense...
I am not rooted at the moment, but I am familiar with it (developed for my HTC Dash years ago). I haven't had much time at all to dive into rooting until nw. Unfortunately, the OTA update was run on this device so now I'm at the mercy of the devs around here to discover a workaround.
Damage rom for the battery life. Seriously guys , if anyone and I mean anyone is *****ing and moaning about battery life , then they haven't tried DC's rom yet. And if Damage ain't on then trevE will answer.
I find a close second in polish and likability is Fresh's rom. Great rom . And I've run that one too.
I also ran Finisher by magnus.
And the froyo by avalaunch. Which is great but I need my camara and I hate having to flash to get it and then flash back.
I've also flashed Hero's over rom. But i didn't like the guys attitude in a couple of posts so I took it off.

Im actually a really nice guy. I just let my personal life interfere with my development life. Ive apologized multiple times and will once more. Im sorry. My ROM sucks btw lol
Okay I did some research on the Rom. Everyone raves about the speed and how battery last longer then the stock or cm6 roms. It looks very iphony to me. How smooth is the Rom? How is it working out for you miui users. Is it worth the time? I am very satisfied with cm6. Haven't thought of switching but I want to give it a try. Please let me know.
try out the rom yourself, its not going to kill you
I gave it a go. It is very iphone-ish, but not so much that it bothered me or was distasteful. I saw no increase in battery life or speed, even though I'm sure tests might prove it, nothing that makes a noticeable difference in day to day usage. I eventually went back to enoms rom with wildmonks kernal.

well, I didnt wanna try it out either because I really dont like the iphone interface, but turns out that I did try it and I love it!
I didnt use the stock launcher though, thats what made it iphone like.
Im using launcher pro and adw so I get pretty much all the benefits of the rom. It is a very fast rom. probably as fast as all the other really. but for some reason, its really smooth. its a completely new version of android I would say.
give it a try with another launcher. I think you might like it. also, try out wildmonks kernels. they seem pretty fast and stable for me
Which Rom do you recommend? Rodriguez or dj's? Wildmonks kernel is the best. Not a big fan of iPhone but will use launcher pro or adw launcher.
Im using rodriguez. It seems to be the easiest one file flash type of rom.
Rodriguez is what I used. Was very nice and launcher pro worked great with it. It also has some nice features with it. I might give it another go myself, but with gingerbread around the corner, I dunno. Plus it's just hard to give up enoms.

im using it with adw launcher and i love it. there isnt really any increase in performance that ive noticed but i love how you can go straight to sms app from the lock screen.
Rod's MIUI rom's rock...happy flashing!
And read his thread posts for details & info
I've been using Rodriguez MIUI roms for a while now. Every once in a while I flash something else including a few Sense ones and CM6.1 but the MIUI roms simply dust them in speed and responsiveness.
I don't really like the icons so much but I can easily overlook them with the huge increase in speed, stability over CM and the latest (1.8.1) with Wildmonks kernel gives me better battery life than I have EVER had.
I really like MIUI for a couple of reasons. The ability to create folders on the home screen makes finding my apps faster and more organized, as I like to load down my phone with more apps than I ever would really use. I also really like what they've done with the dialer and in-call menu, as it gives you bigger buttons and indicators for Bluetooth connectivity and such. I've lost track of how many times I've forgotten to turn on Bluetooth prior to making a call, and ROMs based on the stock Froyo only have the small icon on the status bar to let you know whether Bluetooth is connected, so I often ended up sitting there listening to silence for a few seconds before realizing the problem. Even answering a call is somewhat easier, as you swipe down instead of sideways, and that's especially useful for the times when I'm asleep and get awoken by a call.
Then there's always the other assorted UI improvements that aren't particularly necessary, but still cool nonetheless. There's a cool visualizer that plays along with your music on the lock screen, in addition to controls on the lock screen for your music. The stock wallpapers are really nice too, and after using CyanogenMod I started getting tired of seeing the color cyan. The top bar is transparent too, so it will always look nice with whatever wallpaper you choose. Despite taking some cues from Apple's iOS UI, I actually think MIUI does it better.
The look of the icons is my only gripe with MIUI, but that can be changed with themes of course. Speed wise, I haven't noticed a whole lot of improvement, and I think that's because I don't often have many apps all running at once. What really matters to me is usability, and in that department MIUI shines, and hopefully will only get better.
I use the miui rom as well with Launcher Pro. The Battery life rocks. thats my main reason I use it.

it is not hard hard to make a nadroid backup, flash a rom and try it, if you don't like it, may be go back?. People's inputs are biased and you may have a different experience than what others tell you.
One thing is sure, MIUI rom is more composed than the stock experience you get from CM.

Meh. Tried it, didn't like it. Went back to CM nightly. MIUI is not in any way faster or better on battery than CM or stock rom. That's all hype and placebo. And imo, LauncherPro2 is way better than MIUI launcher.
But, some people like it, and I'm glad we have a choice.

I agree. I was using miui not so long back, and its certainly a nice rom, and unlike many,i certainly don't mind the iphone look. However, the talk of it being faster and having better battery life than others is incorrect. I'm now using geos frg83 rom which is largely stock, and the speed and battery life are identical. I decided to start using that as I got sick of constantly updating newer versions of the rom, and all the issues it used to bring. However it is a very polished rom, but with ginger bread around the corner, I will just hold off until then.
As an out of the box rom though it is very nice and polished.

Just out of interest as there seems to be a difference of opinion on this.
I find CM7 faster, even when not overclocked.
90% of the vote for CM7 is about what I was expecting.
Can't understand why some people seem to prefer the stock rom.
Because stuff like this is subjective. That apart, few cant live without HTC Sense.
Not when it comes to performance/speed (which is the point of this poll) .
A benchmarking app would show a performance increase after flashing CM7.
Definitely CM7........ my keyboard finally works the way it should
I already had this argument with someone else, so not going to go over it again. But, I'll just state the main point I want to make: Synthetic benchmarks are NOT an indicator of real world performance.
And what will happen if it is proved that cm7 has more performance benchmark than stock. Nothing..... And it is not just the performance but also about features.
Just be happier that wildfire got rooted after ages. The waiting is good bcoz it even got s-off. Thanks to alpharevX again.
And thanks for comparing it with stock rom alone.
<sarcasm>
Before root = root root root
After root. = stock stock stock

Er, wasn't looking for an argument, just trying to gauge the general opinion on whether people find their wildfire faster after flashing cm7.
And yes, I'm aware benchmarking isn't 100% accurate, that's why I started the poll.
Not to prove anything, just to get a consensus.
Guys, please, when you say CM7 is better at performance, can anyone with CM7 confirm to run google maps properly ? They run like sh*t on my device. On froyo they were 100% responsive and fast, now they are unusable.
Btw my observations so far, the rom is far from faster, it is just overhyped rom and people vote its faster, because they read everywhere its faster. My opinion. Maybe on more hw capable devices it is indeed faster.
Don't get me wrong, it's very good looking and seems optimized with tons of tweaks and settings, but i prefer rather 100% performance over tweaks...
In fact, the stock rom is much faster in certain situations. (ie google maps, homescreen scrolling)
But the google maps may be some other problem than the rom.
The homescreen scrolling isn't dependant as much on the ROM as it is on the launcher...

I did that.... I've went through all setings. I didin't mean faster as "faster" lol.
Maybe its the launcher (probably), anyway my point was it's not "way faster" than Froyo. At least on Wildfire.
as for me, CM is much more responsible and customisable, so you can configure it, to be much faster. I remember my first opinion after installing it "omg, stock rom sucks..." and I still think like that. I haven't tried gmaps though
I've been working with the phone a lot and I must admit my initial judgement was seriously flawed. The first thing I tried was google maps and together with not so well tweaked system / gui resulted in my downed mood. Now I'm starting to share your opinion.
I use 'Angry Birds' as a benchmarking app ...... before CM7 I could barely play the thing on Froyo (HTC stock ROM).... the birds were 'thrown' way too slowly (I don't really know if you guys get the picture)..... and don't even get me started on the keyboard..... it's sublime!!!!!!!! I can finally text at a normal human being's pace instead of waiting half a lifetime for a character to appear on my screen!!!!! (Ok maybe I am being a bit overdramatic.... still it's true)!!

I get your drift mate.
My benchmarking app is copilot.
With the stock rom it was so slow it was barely usable.
With CM7, it flys along and works as well as any Tomtom device I've used.
I'm kind of getting sluggish performance on mine, but only after installing certain applications--even though, I didn't install that many...
Has anyone gotten slow performance on theirs? If so, what was the culprit?
I've never had sluggish performance on this phone :\
I hear of small handfuls of people who do, and don't know what to tell them.
The slowness is caused by bloatware mostly, in my opinion. Rooting is a must for me, never been happier with any phone until I've rooted and removed excess pre-installed apps. Background services of any kind will also bog your phone down. Once my PLAY was optimized, it got WAY faster
Fast at 1GHz. Faster at 1.6. Could be a bit faster sure, but its fine as it is
Slow.
I deleted all the bloatware. Have Ram Manager installed and still slow. I don't know what's wrong.

Yep, All Animations.
I really wish I knew what to tell people too. I do have it upgraded to 2.3.4, rooted, ADB setInstallLocation optimized and de-bloated, but aside from that I haven't even gone as far as to continue my tradition of slamming Chainfire 3D on everything. And it was smooth even back on 2.3.3 when I was up to my knees in bloatware.
SD card class maybe?? I've heard stories that, while higher class cards are usually good, they result in sluggish performance on smartphones.
Mine is pretty fast as it stands.
I have a task killer app and just installed 2.3.4 on my R800at.
I get a freeze up every now and then but usually only when I forget to kill some apps before loading something. But the homescreen is usually always fast, even when I only have 44mb of ram left.
Task killing+removing bloatware is a definite way to increase performance. Im not overclocked at all and dont have any problems.

Flashtool and the generic 2.3.4 firmware. Theres a thread for it in the development forum but it's pretty buried. I feel like a lot of folks miss it because of that. It's pretty easy. No unlocked bootloader needed.

Task killing is in the long run slowing you down and the worst thing you can do. Let Android handle it, give it a week to learn the programs and your patterns and I guarantee it will be better than when you do it. There have been many articles on this.

This makes no sense whatsoever. But from you I'm not surprised.
As for the OP, I would call it medium. It can be fast when running certain games and programs. It can be slow other times, like when your Message box has a lot of messages, or you're playing a poorly coded game like NOVA 2 which has all sorts of slowdowns. Mine is bone stock with a Class 4 Sandisk card.
Use Task Killer wisely.
My xperia Play(default everything) is only slow when i have Emulators or Youtube in the backround.
When you are Using task Killer DO NOT Kill Apps that you use alot or Apps That you will be using a little while later.
As this will only take more battery as the apps have to boot up again
instead of having it in the back round.
I bought the play thinking it would be better than my last phone ( htc desire ). I thought sense was bloaty but have to say the play has been disappointing. It handles apps and games as well if not slightly better but its the home screen and widgets that seem to lag. I rooted and tried different launchers and have found go launcher best at giving the most features and widgets without lag.
Sorry for the possible stupid questions.
I have one of this devices with kbrd. I haven't rooted, unlocked bootloader or anything... Why? Becuase I haven't had the need for it.
Now, since I'm getting used to other faster devices I have I would like alittle bit more speed. Specially something that fixes how laggy my tablet becemes when installing or upgrading programs.
This is the part that annoys me a lot.
So I'm looking for a ROM that is focused on speed. I never play games. At all.
Just wanted to know if any ROM heps us out with this issue, or if no matter which ROM I use/install, the lag during this king of process will be there.
