Hi
I just switched to Oxygen ROM which is amazing btw and my battery is lasting forever compared to stock... but there is some thing i do miss, the HTC Link in the contacts... which was pretty useful...
Also could anyone tell me how I can put Own Number and contact, so that it shows my picture in while am texting....
i'm not sure, but i think go cotacts has some of the features.

No in Go contact it's a merge option.
Me too I search an app with the link between contact. If you find one tell me.
A bit complicated but to link contacts, open a contact -> menu - edit contact -> menu -> join contact.
To make your contact photo show, just make sure you are in your address book with the same number as your phone. If you are in your address book and you're still not showing up, check your number is provided by your SIM by going to Settings -> About phone -> Status. The "My Phone Number" should be populated with your number. If not, get an app off the market to edit your SIM. I used this one: http://www.appbrain.com/app/my-phone-number/org.lytsing.myphonenumber
Not sure if this is relevant to what you want to know, but there is a free app called SyncMyPix which forces all of your contacts to be represented by their facebook profile pictures. I found it useful on AOSP roms which dont seem to sync these pictures well
I'd try dialer one...gives you a link to you contacts.

Like davidbis mentioned use join contact feature it works completely the same like it was working with stock HTC rom. I've been confused with that as well, but worked fine.
Hi,
Anybody knows of an app that merges / joins contacts?
HTC Sense has this function if you know what I mean, sometimes a chain-link icons shows up in the notification area.
I´d like to have an app that does this on a batch basis so that I can chose to do so for all my contacts instead of merging / joining one by one.
I know I can do this one by one. Go contacts Ex gives this function without doing it for everyone at one batch job. You have to acceppt one by one...
I am using , Google, ActiveSync, Facebook, Whatsapp etc. contacts
Ideas?
@davidbis
Thx 4 Link works great for me

Hi,
There is one thing that driving me nuts. Lets say I have a friend, whose names is John. In google, I have saved his email ID with name j.smith .. .. then his another email ID with johns .. .. and then finally his cell number with name john ..
After, I linked up all accounts in my HTC Desire People. I can see these three accounts in one single contact. Fare enough and perfect. But is there anyway, I can merge these three accounts into 1 so that it is synced to my Google Account and to my HTC Contacts?
Not sure if I understand correctly what you want to do but its something I've struggled with as well. There was a perfect app for this on iPhone/iOS but I have yet to find anything that comes even close on Android. Try Contacts Analyzer available on Market but it's dismal. Doesn't allow you a preview of the changes you're about to make before you commit them!
Didn't help that .. :s
Gmail Contacts
Your best bet is to just do it in Gmail from your computer, then let the phone sync. It's easy and you will have them all in the same format, and you can add pictures for caller ID, etc.
You're in trouble if you have 1,000 contacts like I used to...the idea I think is to use an app that auto-works and gets the job done as a batch without you having to edit every single contact...then you can sync to Facebook and pull in some photos IDs...

This. Plus there is an option on Gmail to merge duplicates so you can at least have google do most of the sorting and merging for you. And if possible, don't let any HTC app mess with my Google contacts.

I think that's the most important idea about merging. My opinion's that any given app could mess things up and leave you with a lot of different linked contacts. Personally I prefer to edit all my contacts at my Gmail account so that I don't have to merge them again everytime I flash another rom for example.
If you're willing to take the time and patience for it it'll pay off to manually manage your contacts at Gmail.

+1
I've been searching that function for long time since I moved from the stock sense rom to others, and still no app is giving me this. I even tried a lot of different contact manager but no one works really well.
About G contacts: I really care to keep the list "clean" and every contact linked with whatsapp, email, facebook etc, but sometimes it just lose the info, even if I've just merged that contact with the app I'm currently using (I'm running MildWild) and rsynced the G account.
Try Go Contacts Ex (free), it has various functions on merging contacts (by number, email etc.)
Thanks, this works nearly perfect.
Mine im using contapps free from market, try it if you want too! ̄ω ̄

I think you should sync with gmail.
In sense I was used to have all my contacts shown with their facebook information within their phone numbers (I just need to pair them first on winmo).
I tried some sense Android build and I still have all the number connected to my facebook account, now I put on a senseless build that is 10 time faster so I'd like not go back to sense, but I miss that function, to have facebook pictures of friend, and birthday and their updates all bound to phone numbers..
All I have now is a contact list with my own names (they are not listed with name/surname) with phone numbers and all real names from facebook without numbers and only the email.
Is it possible to merge them again like in the sense contact list? someone knows how to do that?
thanks for reading
Please help someone.... i need an answer too....
Short answer: no
Long answer: In pursuit of same solution, the best i came up was to merge facebook with gmail, leaving out facebook in the phone alone. There's few ways to do it, but the easiest and most reliable I found, was to get yourself yahoo.com mail, pull facebook contacts into it using the integrated tool that they have (gmail should make one too :/) and then merge it back into gmail using gmail tools. This method however leaves out pictures. So to rectify that, get yourself a free app on market called "SyncMyPix". It will match your (now updated) contacts to facebook and get pictures. It's not perfect - resolution is smaller and you get F in the corner (Facebook F), but it works.
GL.
Edit Contact -> Join/Merge (Cant remember)... I join/merge my saved contacts with facebook contacts always. Using senseless build.

That about sums up what i did. The pictures dont matter. Once you put the combined contact info together then import in gmail, open the facebook app and sync all, the pics then show up on the phone in contacts.

Nice find, guys! I've been looking for this for a loooong time.
Hi all,
Maybe I haven't enabled some setting (still new to the android game, even newer to the Timescape UI) but is there some way to search and link your phone contacts to facebook friends?
I've seen this integration being done using a built-in HTC feature.. wondering if there's something similar in Timescape that i've just missed.
Go to Contacts --> Settings --> Accounts & sync
There you can add your Facebook account

how do you guys get status updates to sync with contacts? i can get twitter updates to sync, but not facebook.
hey thanks for that guys.
@ thomassafca: yep i've done that, but what i mean is an app that runs through ur contacts, compares them to your facebook contacts and suggests whether u should merge the two.. not sure if that's what's happening atm tbh LOL but so far it doesn't look like a lot of contacts have fb details.
@androhero: thanks will give that a go, sounds promising.
haha tried life.contacts but if your contacts don't have the same name (e.g. first and last; most of my contacts in my phone are nicknames / first names only) it doesn't play too nice. would be great if you hv a clean contact list though, thanks for the heads up.
also (i'm an idiot) if you long-press a contact name in contacts it pulls up the context menu where you can select 'join contacts'. not quite what i was looking for (an automated suggestion app) but it'll do for now.

life.contacts works great, as long as the first name of the person in you contacts is exactly the same as there first name on facebook
hey! if you're still looking for a way to merge phone contacts with facebook IE their picture or status, what i did with mine was go into contacts, click on a contact and select edit. once you're in the editing screen for the contact press the menu button and at the bottom of the screen it will say join with two funny looking arrows..and then if your contact name is similar to any of your facebook contacts, it has that persons profile and you just select it!
if you know the person's on facebook and it doesn't show their name, sometimes you can edit the phone contact so it has the same name as their facebook page and join the two, then rename the contact in your phone so not every person has a first and last name lol.
hope this helps!

I second this as Life.Contacts widget/account-sync does work. However, I would just as soon have native Facebook sychronization. It works on my Thunderbolt, it works on my Moto Droid A855 (OG Droid), it works in my dev environment Android Emulator. _WHY_ Doesn't it work on the Xperia Play? Even on the "stock" Android 2.3.2 on the Verizon version (R800x). The facebook app works fine, except it has no settings under the "other settings" option inside the app, and if you try and add an account listing under your system Accounts menu, it just goes right back to the account list.
(Also, no it is not moved to SD, installed to a SD-Ext partition or anything else, just normal internal storage install directly from the Android Market)
Anybody have any ideas as to why?
Why would anyone want to put there phone numbers and personal contact data on facebook? That is just stupid. Why not just post your credit card information while your at it?

No, we are not putting phone numbers and personal contact data on facebook. It is putting facebook data on your phone.
For example. I have a friend John Doe in facebook. He is also in my phone. When he calls me, his facebook photo automatically shows up. Same for all other friends.
It's nice to see new facebook profile pictures when people call me.
I c. But there are to many people in my Facebook that I wouldn't want on my phone. A lot of them I don't even know. They just add me because we know someone in common. LOL
I had a similar problem with gmail on my iPhone all of a sudden I had everyone I ever emailed on my phone. Even people I only emailed once to buy something on kijiji.

Because your only meant to add your friends. People go crazy and add anyone they can its up to them.

That is why you just integrate the facebook info with only people from your contact list.
Whenever I start dialing a number, all my facebook contacts with that area code and first few digits start showing up as people to quick-select. In reality, only about one or two of these numbers are actually stored to my google account.
I have my contacts list to display only contacts with a phone number, and facebook contacts are set to be hidden, so if I were to search these people that auto-display when I'm dialing a number, they don't show up.
How do I prevent these facebook contacts from showing up when I'm dialing a number? Why do they show up when I'm dialing a number, but they don't show up in my contacts list? It's quite annoying.
PS) I'm running SRF 1.2 with genocide.

Bingo. When you install Facebook on your phone, just don't sync it. That would drive me friggin' nuts.
Hmm... but then what about maintaining contact pictures? The only way they can be updated is to sync your facebook contacts, to my knowledge. Right??
Is there any way to sync existing contacts' images with their facebook accounts, but prevent ALL of my facebook friends with phone numbers from popping up when I dial a number? It's TOTALLY driving me crazy!
Also, in the account settings I have my facebook listed TWICE. One must be with a built in facebook thing, and the other is from the facebook app. I'm not sure which is which. One of them only gives me an option to sync contacts. The other lets me set the sync interval, sync the calendar, and sync contacts. Both of these have sync set to OFF on the main accounts screen.
Open your facebook app. Press the "back" button once. Press the menu key. Select options. Find the option for syncing facebook contacts and turn it off.

Right, I'm aware of that option. Thank you, but it's not the solution I'm looking fir.
Let me put it this way... How do I have my google contacts' pictures stay updated to their Facebook profiles without all my Facebook contacts coming up when I dial numbers? I feel like this should be an easy fix...

Try this:
Contacts > Menu > More > Display Options
Under Choose contacts to display click on Facebook, uncheck All Contacts.
Reboot. All the contacts you have in google should still sync with facebook and keep their contact picture updated.
Yeah, I did that quite some time ago, ringold. Only my google contacts show in the contact manager, which is great. But as soon as I try to dial a number my facebook contacts show up as options to select. Therein lies my problem... and I doubt I'm the only one who has it...
Blazinan, That's a good workaround for getting pictures linked to my google contacts, but what about keeping them updated? I know it's not a huge issue and probably sounds nit-picky and trivial... but it seems like it should be an easy thing to accomplish:
Google contact's pictures sync with facebook profile images, but my entire facebook contact list doesn't show up when dialing a number. wtf...

You are oh so welcome... doesn't it seem like a quick line of code could add an option to filter out facebook contacts from popping up in the dialer? I feel like this should be a standard feature in all roms.

I think I know why it's doing this. If you do the steps I outlined in my initial post, it will only show the phone numbers listed in facebook that actually have their number listed on their facebook profile. I don't think there is any way around this. But it does block the rest of the numbers who don't have their phone number listed on facebook.
Small consolation but at least it's not all my facebook contacts like I originally thought.
"Start Dialing a number, facebook contacts show up..."
It's ciq lol
I was actually about to open up a new thread about the very question but then I found this! I hope it's okay to post in this even though it's a month old.
I just got this phone recently and I hate how my Facebook contacts show up in the dialer too! I chose "sync only existing contacts" or whatever, which is what I wanted (to keep all their info and pics up to date), but I don't understand why Facebook contacts with phone numbers that I DON'T have in my existing contacts are showing up as well! Has anyone found a solution to this? Or have you guys just un-synced Facebook contacts? =/
Hello friends,
I have migrated from WP7 to android (CM7ite)
I am experiencing the foll. diffculties :
1) How do I link two contacts in android contacts. One contact is from contact list & the other one is from facebook having slightly different name.
due to this the two contacts are shown seperaely. In WP7, linking of contacts was butter smooth, which is not the case with android now.
2) Secondly, i m also using 3rd party application called touchpal contacts.
Touchpal contacts does not display facebook pictures, even if these contact's pictures are present in android contact list.
any clues / hints / tips anyone ....

In fact, if you're on CM7 use GO apps to replace pretty much everything. GO launcher, GO SMS, GO weather, GO Widgets, GO task manager etc. They all have a very polished and high end feel which I personally feel the stock apps don't have.

But if you prefer a rather stockish look and feel, for the first problem you have the following two options:
1- From within Go Contacts, hit "menu" and then merge duplicate contacts at once. (Batch)
2- From within Stock Contacts/Dialer app, go into the contact you wish to join and then menu > edit > join > show all > select the contact you want to join.
As for the images, I like to use "SyncMyPix" from the Play Store, it's free, simple yet intuitive and easy to use.
You can also sync the contacts to gmail and use the find duplicates function in the gmail contacts through the web. I've used it a lot, works fine
