Will the only option be OTA for 2.2?

Will there be an option to download the flash the stock 2.2 update from samsungs website or from sprints website. Waiting for the OTA update is going to drive me nuts....
I don't think that's publicly known yet.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
You will get it from here long before it shows up on Sprint or Samsungs website. From my understanding the first four days are ota only.
I figure by noon EDT there will be a rooted .tar here. Break out Odin and flash away.
My guess is epic will be oat only. No mini kies for you.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It will be almost instant..as soon as someone catches the Google URL we can just download it manually and flash via stock recovery...same way we did with the DK28...
Cant wait! Im running the new kernel at 1.2. Love it! Its back on top on benchmark2010. LG optimus 2x is 2nd place with its dual core. Gotta love the hummingbird gpu.
Someone will have to OTA and check the logcat for the dl address. Then all the rest of us can cook root into it and slap it on our bricks-o'-epic.
ughh i can't wait! Going back to 2.1 for now is making me crazy lol.

The latest version is: PG05IMG_Mecha_VERIZON_WWE_1.12.605.9_Radio_1.16.00 .0223r_NV_8k_1.41_9k_1.64_release_176865_signed.zip (This is actually a higher release than what came on your phone. It could be a planned OTA for the Thunderbolt.
The one that came on your phone is: Mecha_VERIZON_WWE_1.12.605.6_Radio_1.16.00.0223r_N V_8k_1.41_9k_1.64_release_174685_signed.zip

updated with OTAs
This thing is one big confusion
I'm not flashing it... but I have a question
Why would anyone want to flash it, if they flashed the leaked one weeks ago
What are these random reboots people are having?
Random reboots on my end. Flashed the .exe version. Rebooted more often when I had foursquare installed. Still Rebooted once uninstalled, but less frequent.

[Q] SBF 1.8.3 vs. OTA 1.8.3

All,
Given that AT&T has made this update to 1.8.3 about as confusing as humanly possible I was curious whether we yet had any confirmation on whether the 1.8.3 SBF files that are floating around the forums (ending in "_Service1FF" rather than the usual "_1FF") are in fact bit-for-bit or otherwise identical to what is going out OTA.
Fundamentally I suppose my question is whether the SBF that users have been using to date is a beta or a final (despite it being signed).
Yeah I want to know that too. I noticed that on the update message from att is saying that the update is somethin like 26 MB. And the sbf is 1.4 gb.

Update is just that......an update. SBF is full system flash. OTA update is released to public today and is final.
BTW, AT&T never made anything confusing. All they did was release the update. The community started all the other files flying around.
Sent from WinBorg 4G using XDA Premium App
1.4GB files is the full sbf of Atrix.
update.zip or OTA update is about 29MB. just contain update file.
wouldn't applying update.zip over the already 'updated through sbf' devices solve the issue?

Awesome, thank you football
Football,
Thanks, EXE versions are hard to come by, seems that HTC no longer sends them to verizon as EXEs. Very helpful to those unfamiliar with the process.
Others/Devs,
Byte for byte the same as the 1.70.605.0 previously posted in .zip format.

Which means no difference between the two at all? Like, I should just stay with the radio I have now or?
For those of that aren't devs... what's the specs of this? GB? Froyo? Is this the new GB base that Chingy was referring to a few days ago? Sorry for the, perhaps obvious, questions but I don't blindly click on .exe links w/o knowing exactly what it is.
This is Froyo
It appears to have the same radio version as the latest OTA mr2.75 - Correct me if I'm wrong.

Jcase is telling you its the exact same thing as the latest official ota mr2 (some people call it 2.75) that was released like last week... this is just in exe format opposed to the zips that were released already
Will an executive file unroot you and turn s: on?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I believe you mean executable, and yes.
Is it possible to use the latest official OTA radio (for the connection stability or performance fixes it hopefully provides) while also obtaining root and S-OFF? It seems like it's very hard to have both the latest stable fixes and updates and also root.

I beleve so. When I had my incredible I would use a ruu.exe to return all of it back to stock. I believe this would do the same.
Great work
the only real difference here is the fact that this comes with software that is run on your computer to update the phone. download, run, plug in when prompted, and it will update.this is an alternative to installing in hboot as a PG05IMG.
thank you football, every time you post one of these(or any ROM)i download and save it. tho im not sure i will ever have a reason to use them

[11/09] Everything EI22 and OTA today!

I just thought I should post what exactly happened in the last few hours for the epic community in relation to the newest gingerbread update EI22.
So, thanks to CrimsonFlare, noobnl was able to help him get a system dump going for everyone, allowing us to have EI22 by restoring a nandroid backup.
CrimsonFlare obtained EI22 the same way others had claimed: He had gotten a refurbished phone from the Sprint Store and it happened to have EI22. Go figure.
Video of CrimsonFlare's EI22: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAWkd5zUIaY
Also, go to https://opensource.samsung.com/ and you will notice that the EI22 source code happens to be back online. (Wow Samsung...)
NOTE: The source is the same from before. Rodderik confirms there is NO difference from what was posted on the site previously.

FACTS ABOUT EI22:
EI22 includes TW 3.2, an upgraded version of TW3 with an infinite scroll.
Blue overscroll glow as seen in the T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy S II.
It is Gingerbread 2.3.5.
NOTE:
There is no EI22 modem available yet! It is reported IMPOSSIBLE by noobnl, ugothakd, and DRockstar to do this with what we have, so that's the only bad news.

I don't care about how they got I am just happy they have it now. When I read the post and it came from noobnl I knew the Rom is real. Noobnl does not BS. Plus he is a trusted member of the XDA community. This is great news. Sure we don't have a modem but who cares right now. This will help the developers at cyanogenmod and the other Rom developers as well. Nice posting.

Since it'll be coming soon-ish, I'm wondering if someone can remind us which system app/process is necessary to freeze to stop the phone bugging us about the OTA update? It drove me crazy w/Froyo and will again, with how most of our phones are it's useless for many since the OTA update.zip from Sprint will fail install.
Can we not get to the modem with a root explorer on the stock ei22 phones?? I don't know if its possible to pull it that way. I thought you could get to it.

Once you root the phone you can pull it with adb. It may require you to flash another ROM first.
I don't think u are going to be able to get it using a file explorer.. maybe adb an adb pull or something? Not sure there but its a separate partition called modem.bin..
So ei22 is looking like the official build eh? With source up one would suspect ota's would begin shortly if it is the final build. Which means we'll get the modem soon..
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Um wasn't it commented on already that we have no way to get the modem with our current tools?
just to be clear, one has to be rooted to install this, right? and there's no upgrade to the modem?
