I just thought I should post what exactly happened in the last few hours for the epic community in relation to the newest gingerbread update EI22.
So, thanks to CrimsonFlare, noobnl was able to help him get a system dump going for everyone, allowing us to have EI22 by restoring a nandroid backup.
CrimsonFlare obtained EI22 the same way others had claimed: He had gotten a refurbished phone from the Sprint Store and it happened to have EI22. Go figure.
Video of CrimsonFlare's EI22: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAWkd5zUIaY
Also, go to https://opensource.samsung.com/ and you will notice that the EI22 source code happens to be back online. (Wow Samsung...)
NOTE: The source is the same from before. Rodderik confirms there is NO difference from what was posted on the site previously.

EI22 includes TW 3.2, an upgraded version of TW3 with an infinite scroll.
Blue overscroll glow as seen in the T-Mobile variant of the Galaxy S II.
It is Gingerbread 2.3.5.

I don't care about how they got I am just happy they have it now. When I read the post and it came from noobnl I knew the Rom is real. Noobnl does not BS. Plus he is a trusted member of the XDA community. This is great news. Sure we don't have a modem but who cares right now. This will help the developers at cyanogenmod and the other Rom developers as well. Nice posting.

Since it'll be coming soon-ish, I'm wondering if someone can remind us which system app/process is necessary to freeze to stop the phone bugging us about the OTA update? It drove me crazy w/Froyo and will again, with how most of our phones are it's useless for many since the OTA update.zip from Sprint will fail install.
Can we not get to the modem with a root explorer on the stock ei22 phones?? I don't know if its possible to pull it that way. I thought you could get to it.

Once you root the phone you can pull it with adb. It may require you to flash another ROM first.
I don't think u are going to be able to get it using a file explorer.. maybe adb an adb pull or something? Not sure there but its a separate partition called modem.bin..
So ei22 is looking like the official build eh? With source up one would suspect ota's would begin shortly if it is the final build. Which means we'll get the modem soon..
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Um wasn't it commented on already that we have no way to get the modem with our current tools?
just to be clear, one has to be rooted to install this, right? and there's no upgrade to the modem?

LOL.........
okay...we already knew this was true, but i have a question.
When the real froyo comes out, will we have to flash back to the DI18 stock w/ Odin or will we be able to update the manual way like we did for this "test"? (I know it wouldn't show up in the system updates notification)
Since ur probably gonna root and load a custom rom anyway, pretty sure u can just wait for the rom packages to be updated and go straight from dk28

Yea, but doing that will inevitably lead to problems. The best way to do it is to return to DI18 and let Android update you the normal way, then root, then install whatever rom you want. If DK28 has taught us anything, its that trying to take the shortcut leads to non functional GPS and other problems.
Which means we'll probably be getting the final build of froyo in a few months judging by the current rate of progress. SOOOOOOO tired of waiting.
I checked the Sprint forums.
One of the admin suggests that the official update will be released within 3 weeks at the least, unless there's problems. Which...there will be -_-
Here is the Rogers 2.2 Froyo i896 Update.. Use at own risk. Im not responsible what you do with it.. Enjoy..

Clockwork Recovery Flashable: (To be applied from Stock 2.1) To avoid problems restore to stock.

Kernel/Modem:

Update:
I created a CWM Flashable ROM. Plain stock with Root. This is my first time packing a rom. I tested it and it flashed ok from 2.1 and works on my device just fine. If you don't like it or it doesn't work for you don't blame me, you knew the risk. Post your success.
BTW: you will loose Clockwork recovery and will be replaced with Stock 3e Recovery.
Clockwork Recovery can be restored via this thread tested and it works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213
Have you tried it yourself?
Not to be flashed through recovery its the files Kies downloads to update the device. I personally did my update through Kies.
Excellent I will pull the files from system, the kernel, and modem, customize it a bit, and make an update.zip and flash this to my captivate....assuming AT&TS version is still a long way away.

I would be leary of that. Modem " might " work. Kernel could make for a fun ride though.with i9000 roms that is.
Can this be flashed with Odin? I have a Rogers Captivate but Kies can't see upgrades for my phone. I edited the nv_data.bin file and sgstools shows the proper product code but still no luck.
Hopefully this will solve the problem.
Wow this is bullcrap. They get 2.2 before the AT&T Captivate. :/

2. I just need I896 Froyo Kernel and I896 Froyo modem to test, how well it performs with my I897.

Steps for install
Any change someone could provide a quick run-down of how to install.
Which verison of Odin to use and which options inside of Odin to select?
Thanks in advance for your answers
OK I will put this out there for everyone so we don't have a million threads going on this subject.
1 If your on DI18 stock and rooted with a simple root method you will get the OTA, you will lose root. Also having CWM installed will not break the OTA but you will lose CWM due to the stock recovery being flashed.
2 If your on a DI18 rom that you have flashed with CWM you will get the OTA but it will fail due to the rom not being stock the OTA zip will check for this and if your not on the stock rom the OTA will fail to install.
3 If you have a stock rom with any bloatware removed the OTA will also fail to install the OTA zip file will check your system to make sure its stock.
4 If you running a leaked Froyo build like DK28 or DK17 or any rom made from those leaks you will probably not get the OTA notification at all you will have to reflash back to stock DI18 to get the OTA.
The best thing to do if your running a rom is to wait on someone to make a flashable zip to convert from DI18 to EB13 or a zip to flash from a DK28 rom to EB13 it might take a day or two to get it converted but it will happen after all this time waiting for it another day or two shouldn't kill anyone.
I have stock DI18, rooted, and do have CWM installed (but never ever flashed any ROMs at all), will I be able to OTA? Sorry I'm still new at this.
Good idea to post this. I doubt it will prevent the morons from creating new threads though, there are already 3 or 4 scattered about on this board. Should probably throw something in there about being able to d/l it over Wifi as I've seen that one asked a lot recently, too.

So my question is, I have stock DI18 (Odined back from dk28 last night) and rooted using oneclick root with CWM 2.5.whatever(not CWM3). I have read that if you are rooted and want to receive the OTA update you must not have deleted any stock applications. Oneclick root deleted the stupid asphalt 5 game demo and I am wondering if this is considered a stock app that may affect the result of downloading the update.
edit: just saw the post above mine after i finished writing this one!

Seems to be a conflict of criteria...is asphalt demo not considered a "stock" app? If it is, then by the OPs criteria even havin root would break the OTA since one-click removes asphalt...

I'm gonna say this one more time. SOME of us just want to have the littlest, simple satisfaction of receiving the cool little feature of an Over-The-Air upgrade. Because really, how many times does it happen? Its like I want to go outside when there's a comet passing by. Yes, I could just pop in a DVD about comets with nice high-def imagery and commentary by Morgan Freeman, but I didn't actlly DO it.
So do not deny nor judge this opportunity for us. If you cant , then don't post here. The thread isn't titled "why the hell would you retards do an ota just wait for some warezzzzzzzzz! Lolzzzzzzzz!" So contribute if you can, otherwise don't.
Plus....SOME of us have been on a 2006 winmo powered brick for the past 5 years and we got to miss out on this fancy little thing called a firmware upgrade...over the air! OVER THE AIR!

What should someone do to prepare for the OTA
Well as someone said above, not every one has gone through a OTA update (I came to the EPIC from a true PALM when the software was really worth something) and some guidance may keep us from having major problems.
The only thing I could think of was to backup my EPIC. I used MyBackup Pro and backup to both my card and online. Anything else I should do????
George
Thanks for the detailed informed post. We need more like them.
I figure this is the best place to ask this.
I am stock and rooted with one click. I am not running any custom roms. Will there be a stock/rooted release that I can dl from this site or am I going to need to odin back to complete stock and take the OTA update. The majority of what I have been reading is to let your rom maker create a new one. Since I don't want a custom Rom yet, will I be able to get the stock/rooted update.
Thanks!

I hold out hope that someone can unpack and build a rooted flash out of this. Otherwise, it's going to be just like the leak in that once you flash it you're left sitting around waiting for someone to do something...anything with it.
Mad props to the OP for putting this up. This should definitely get a ball rolling since we now have the FULL PC10IMG ROM flash version of the newest build/GB available for the G2.
Interesting too - the newest stuff (tp's) in that archive are 7/29/2011 - soooo fresh
Thanks for uploading this file. I updated my G2 last week. Kinda odd the update zip I used was only 73.1 MB and this one is 131.MB almost doubled. What is the differance between the two files. It seemed to update just fine from 2.2 to 2.3.4. Everything is running just smooth. Unless there are files and apps that I might be missing. I might give this a try again. Currently running 2.3.4 unrooted with S-ON. Still waiting for someone who can fully root the OTA 2.3.4 with S-OFF. Anyone know about the update zip that was leaked last week? Should I flash this one instead or keep what I have?

The update.zip is an update from 2.2 to 2.3.4. This PC10IMG.zip is the whole operating system. You can be on the first OS that shipped with the phone (2.2 but before wifi calling) and still use this file. To use the update.zip, you must be running the update that included wifi calling.
PC10IMG.zip will factory reset your phone.
Just like blink said, this is the full system image, the update essentially just includes the updated code not the entire image.
My hope is that this will help the developers intigrate this into their roms.

No no, what this is is a stock 2.3.4 image created from the PC10IMG that will not overwrite hboot, will not kick you back to stock recovery, will not update your radio and is rooted.

I've been in HTC land for the past year and the whole odin/pit thing is completely greek to me, so I'm really concerned with making sure I don't brick her phone and get yelled at for spending 3 hours trying to fix what I just did
Are these steps correct?
1. Odin/Pit/Tar official EL30
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
2. Update CWM to 5.0.2.7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357655
3. Flash new ROM (Looking at SleeperROM)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465628&highlight=sleeper
I'm assuming that the new CWM has a one-click root method like before, but I cannot find the details in the thread. If not, do the instructions in the "Rooting EI22 after OTA or Google update [11/10]" still apply where I have to download the ACS recovery, or is there an easier method that I haven't found?
I apologize for the noobish post and I'm sure this info is in here somewhere, unfortunately after an hour of searching around I haven't found an updated root/upgrade method that makes this brainless.
Thanks

Thanks. Found the video for upgrading to EL30 and it's much easier than going back to stock. All I need to do after is flash the radio, and there's plenty of info there.

Your steps are correct.
Basically ODIN the official EL30 tar.
Then ODIN the tar version of CWM5.
This will automatically root your phone and install CWM5.
After that you can flash custom roms of your liking.
I would suggest CM9 beta as it is stable if you use your phone for basic stuff like calling/internet surfing, GPS and other minor tasks.

Thanks. I'll probably go this route just to ensure that the radio (etc) flashes correctly. However I'll definitely skip CM9 beta until it's at least RC; wife's phone means no fun...she just don't care
***Quick question, to ODIN the tar version of CWM5 are there any special configurations in ODIN to be aware of?
For those that may follow:
First, getting to stock EL30:

Then ROM Manager (First Download HERE):
Then the next answer to ***
Correct. Make sure the md5's match. So everything will go smooth. You will wanna go to the link in qbking77 video for how to flash cwm 5.0.2.7. I believe is the right one. So you will use odin. Flash the tar. Make sure only reboot is checked. If you are coming from 2.2. And or a bml. Rom. Which. As you was saying it sounds like you are. I don't remeber which slot you put the cwm tar. In. But the video will guide you. . His videos. Comes in handy. If you need any more help. A lot of people will be more then happy to help. Further.
