Hi guys,
Just wondering what performance dip I could expect running programs full screen over webtop vs running them normally on the phone?
I'm thinking mainly of how well emulators run on webtop.
Cheers

Anyone ever test gaming performance (both native android games and games on emulators like NDS4Droid) to see how much of a difference overclocking made? Also how does the Nexus 7 compare to tablets with OMAP4470 (like the Kindle Fire HD 8.9,Nook HD+, Kobo Arc)? I've read that the OMAP4470 is faster than the non-OC Tegra 3.
I was just wondering because I'm going to be getting a tablet soon and it would be cool if it could handle gaming well.
Overclocking should give you a performance boost, however it may not give you a major speed boost.
@ jon7701
Yeah, I was just wondering how big a performance boost it would be. The thing is, if no amount of overclocking on the Tegra 3 or the regular OMAP4470 will ever be able to run newer emulators like NDS4Droid at anywhere near playable speeds, I'll just settle for the JXD S7300 or Archos Gamepad.
Seeing as how most anything nowadays can emulate the PSX/N64/SNES/NES/GBA/etc... The JXD and Archos systems have microSD slot, physical buttons (complete with dual analog nubs), dual cameras (this is more fluff than anything), and can be rooted easily (the makers of those tablets all but encourage it).
Would the Mali400MP4 and Mali400MP2 be able to handle most of the native android games (like the stuff from Gameloft)?
Anyone that has an overclocked Nexus willing to test NDS4Droid gameplay speed?
Which games would you like tested? I was thinking about trying it myself. I notice a significant difference from stock vs overclocked in n64 emulators.

If you could test Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo DS using NDS4Droid and tell me how well it plays? Also what did you overclock your CPU and GPU to?
Hi Guys,
I am having problem deciding which tablet to buy. Surface Pro is a joke with battery life/weight/performance. You might have i5 cpu but Intel hd4000 is a joke. So you get bad battery life and no gaming performance (online games). Better bet would be Acer w700 lasts much longer on battery, is cheaper but is to big and hate the stand arrangement. Not to mention again Intel hd4000.
Currently I have old Acer W500 and am happy with general performance on my daily tasks including battery life. Have a small gripe with pure cpu performance on it. Win8 makes up a bit using ati integrated gpu chip but as soon as there is 50% or more usage on hdd or sd card or so entire unit gets bugged down. Biggest problem miserable screen resolution.
I know atom in w510 is much, much faster cpu in comparison to amd c-50. However graphics integration in c-50 means that full hd playback uses virtually 0 cpu resources as entire job is done by gpu, same using IE, metro and so.
I use the tablet mainly as internet device, Skype, hd video player, I use office a lot and listen to music lots while doing that.
Which would be better to stick with current W500 that now has about 4.5h battery life (barely enough) or move to W510?
Having some trouble understanding your gripe with HD4000 GPU, given that it is low power and for what you need it for, you don't need anything more?
Screen resolution on W500 vs W510 isn't that much different with the Atom processor model. It's 1280x800 vs 1366x768.
Biggest difference for you would be the battery life. W510 should give you at least 2.5hrs more than what you are getting now.
However, the W500 has a faster storage system than the W510, which uses eMMC flash as storage.
Screen resolution is not that much different but tell it to MS who disabled snap that worked perfectly in beta's.
Regarding graphics on W500 I can play eve online and medium details (high if not in huge space battle), can play bsgo on high.
Tried mates i5 laptop with HD4000 and eve is in essence on low (all special hardware accelerated effects are off) and it was still doing only 30fps.
I'm happy with my W500 in everyway except not able to snap apps... :/ battery is okay, graphics is good and over all performance is great for a tablet.
That is my thinking. If resolution of the screen was like in W510 I would not think about upgrading for another year or longer.
Hm wonder if we could purchase a higher resolution LCD?
Does anyone know if digitizer on W500 is glued to screen like in phones? At the end as it is normal PC digitizer is nothing more then another USB device and it actually shows as HID enabled mouse.
Hello to you all.
I'd like to hear your view about which version of the phone has more potential in the years to come when dealing with future emulators such as the Wii, 360, PS3, and any previous gen game console to date. With that I have a few questions I ask to you all.
With the Snapdragon running Quad 1.9's. What could be the maximum overclock on these?
In this wikipage, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S4, it explains the Exynos runs only 1 of the 2 sets of quad 1.6 and 1.2 cores respectfully. I'd like to know if there is a bypass to get all 8 cores running concurrently at the same time. And if so, To get the overclock on every core for this model as well.
The ultimate goal is using a BT controller(Moga Controller), maximum processing and graphics powers(These phones), Connector cables for HDMI, and the proper emulators to enjoy(Which I'm currently working/dealing with).
Hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Sincereless

You're highly overestimating the performance of the phone. While there's a Dolphin emulator in the works to emulate Gamecube and Wii games on Android, the S4 will never be able to run them at a decent frame rate. 360 and PS3 emulators are out of the question, even for the most powerful desktop computers available.
Yeah, it takes many times the power of the original to emulate it. Phones are only close in capabilities to those 7 year old consoles which means there's no hope of emulating them.

THE ADRENO 320 ITS WORKING TOO CLOSE OF THE PS3 PERFORMANCE... AND THE 1.9GHz OF THE CPU IS OVERLOCKABLE TO 2.0GHz EVEN 2.2GHz BUT THE PHONE ALREY SUFFERS THOROTTLE SO LETS SEE WHAT HAPPEN

Doubt it will get overclocked, it already feels like it's gonna burn a hole through the screen after 15 minutes use...
Before we get into whether it can or can't run an emulation it's best to discuss the absolute limits of the Exynos phone and Snapdragon. I'm currently discussing the situation with a group working on the PS3 emulation. But first we need to know what the phone can and can't do.
So the question now is how high can the Exynos 1.6 and 1.2 cores be overclocked, and how high can the 1.9 Snapdragons? What would be a good stable overclock speed? One that won't burn out the CPU's.
(On a side note is there such a thing as portable external CPU's. After browsing extended batteries I got the notion you could kinda fit a second phone motherboard in the size of one of the extended cases. Say for example a second Galaxy S4.) <.<
Your thoughts?
Hi,
i have a Gigabyte Tegra Note 7.
Most things are running very well, but i have problems with some emulators.
Not one emulator for Gameboy, NES or SNES runs completely smooth.
And yes, i tried nearly all of them. I am normally using: GBC.emu, NES.emu and SNES9x EX+
My Galaxy S4mini is only half as fast, but can run all emulators smooth and without jigger(ing)(?).
I also have a cheap Dual-Core Tablet (50% slower then the S4mini) with the same problem, but its rooted.
And setting the CPU to steady 1.5GHz on both cores solves the problem.
But i can`t do this on my Tegra Note 7 without rooting.
And no one is answering here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58283515&postcount=6
(Will the supertool work on my device?)
Does some one has similar problem with emulators on a Tegra Note 7 device?
Maybe the problem is unique to the Gigabyte device only?
Can some one help me please?
cu and thx
And sorry for the bad English!
My Boy gba emulator runs quite nicely. Consumes less battery than the .emu equivalent and it has probably the best features. Even worth paying for the ad-free version imo.
Hi Guys,
At this stage I have a PS4, a android TV box and a Chromecast.
I wish to buy the Nvidia Shield to replace all 3 devices so these are my doubts:
1. will I be able to use the Shield as a regular android tv box, to install apps from Playstore for example like Kodi, Strem.io, etc?
2. The price difference from 16GB to 500GB is considerable so I wonder if I will do fine with the 16GB version and in due course I could increase the storage? If yes, How can I increase it?
3. Are the graphics and gameplay the same, better or worst than the PS4?
Hoep you can help me.
Thank you in advance.
