Has anyone else noticed their MT4G being retardedly slow? Like to the point it takes 20 seconds to do anything? It was fast the other day. Became unbearably slow today. To the point it wouldn't recognize touch, lagged between screens, etc. I have pulled the battery and rebooted about 6 times now, in the last 12 hours.
I've done a factory reset 2 times since I bought it on Thursday. Not cool.
weird.. never happened to me.
go into setting/applications clear your browser data sometimes it gets really high and needs to be cleaned...just go thru your apps and clear some stuff maybe thats the problem
It's really odd. I pulled out the SIM. Booted up, and it was fast as hell.
Kinda odd. I also just put the SIM back in, ran it in GSM only mode, and its much quicker.
This happens a lot to me, when I talk on the phone and try to do anything. Mostly, I've noticed that Sense just seems to take a dump here and there with all of the background services running. LaucherPro is a lot faster for me, that much is certain.
The dreadful combination is:
Talk on phone
Scroll through something in Sense
Have Android sync with GMail
When that happens, you're toast.

How have you been speeding it back up once this happens? I did a few battery pulls and it was still slow, finally just pulled the sim and it worked. But there's gotta be a more definitive answer. Even if it means manually selecting networks.
I sped it up by ditching Sense and using LauncherPro instead. There is such a huge speed increase that it is insane.
Previous to that, I restarted the phone (which is like an actual shutdown) and turned it back on. Not ideal at all. The phone's software is pretty buggy. The ambient light sensor suffers from the same issues that the iPhone 4 launched with. The screen will sometimes stay on during a call (or flash on-off over and over) until your cheek hangs up the call by accident.
I love this phone, but T-Mo and HTC better be quick with the updates.
Phone has always been lag free for me. Are you on stock rom? Post all after market stuff that you downloaded. Something must be running in the background that's slowing you down. Mine has always been good, and when I flashed to iced glacier rom it flies
I have had problems viewing the photo gallery. It really slows down when I start scrolling through the pictures. I don't know if it is because of the memory card or maybe syncing with facebook. I have about 200 pictures on my card. I've had most of these same ones on my G1 and other phones without this problem.

you can install WatchDog to take a look at what may be eating your CPU. Also I am going to keep going back to it, make sure USB debug is checked. Helped me a lot!
Please post questions in the Q&A section.
Hey guys Im a EVo user and my girl has an Epic.
Now the next statement is with either running stock or a custom rom
Her phones slows way down and reboot its required, wifi is odd sometimes a reboot to connect, and today her battery became rather hot over 100 F.
Is there anything I can try out on her phone?
Sounds like a specific phone harware issue, i dont get overheats or slow downs, no matter how many apps are running at the same time and even if i charge and use mobile ap all the time, still no overheats here.
Ive Done this on both stock and custom roms and no overheats or slow down..
darn, thankyou for a reply, guess I'll update her ROM and start her off fresh
I don't get slow downs either. I leave my wifi on all day and don't have issues connecting. I only overheated once. Shortly after I got my phone I was downloading stuff left and right, playing graphics heavy games like radio ball, and trying to charge my nearly dead battery all at the same time. When I got the overheat message I figured it was a sign that I needed to turn the phone off and walk away for a little while.
Either the phone has a problem, or your girl does. (which were pretty much your choices to begin with)
Yep no issue at all here usually always on wifi and I'm a heavy user. I get no slow down or anything and I'm on stock rom with bloatware removed.

My phone does slow down after about 2-3 days of uptime. I'm 100% stock, not rooted. Reboot resolves the issues.
After @ 2-3 day uptime the following happens:
1. I've had issues when rotating between home screens where all my widgets & icons disappear, then come back to normal.
2. Also, sometimes my swiping isn't recognized when trying to cycle home screens.
It's difficult to reproduce on demand, thus making my case to Sprint for replacement even more difficult. So I said screw it, just hoping 2.2.1 will resolve the problems whenever its rolled out OTA.

You may be right. I would get a different girlfriend and see if the overheating/rebooting problem continues. If it stops, we know where the problem was. If the problems continue with the new girlfriend, it may be you.
Does anyone else who uses PowerAmp have problems with playback hiccups? Doesn't do it all the time, but quite often. Especially likes to do it at about 2-3 seconds after a song starts when you'd skipped to a new track.
I use it regularly and don't have any problems with it.
I use it often also and have no problems.
Are you running on Froyo? I'm still on eclair if that makes a difference. I love Poweramp but the hiccups make it annoying enough to be unusable. Doesn't do it all the time and there aren't any problems with the stock music player.

I am stock. Maybe stupid question but have you updated to latest version? I saw something in the change log about fixing skipping.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yeah it says to adjust the audio buffer size if you have skipping. Although I have been using it since the first version came out and have never had a skipping problem. But give that a try and see if that works.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I'm rooted stock. Tried messsing with the buffer setting and still does it. Must be another app that is messing with it. Got the latest version.

Rooted stock also. Does it happen both on wifi and 3g/4g? Headphones, bluetooth and phone speaker? What audio format? I am all mp3 of various bitrates 128 and above. Sorry for so many questions just trying to help figuring it out.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
No 4g here, but does it over both wifi and 3G. All are mp3's of different bitrates, mostly 192-320kbps. It won't do it on all tracks and sometime not even the same track if I replay it, but most commonly in that 2-4 seconds in but will do it in the middle of the song at times. I uninstalled last.fm thinking it's scrobbling might be the culprit (even though I had it turned off) but still no help. The only other audio apps I have is Pandora, Tunein Radio and Audiogalaxy. Might try uninstalling those too to see if that fixes it.

It's Android, I think. I expected better audio performance and got it compared to my old Touch Pro, due to better hardware and software. But the thing is I expect every audio player, even the stock ones, will do this sometimes, and my non-expert observations tell me that it's simply other phone processes interfering in memory and CPU. So with the right tools, I'd focus on IDing what those are, if that's possible.

I have pandora and tune in also so I don't think those would be a problem. Like the post above me said try and eliminate all processes one at a time to see if you can find the problem.

Did a factory reset and still does it. Doesn't appear to be just PowerAmp though as I tried using the stock player for a while and found it will do it sometimes as well. I'm guessing at this point it must be an issue with the SD card.
Damn that sucks. Sorry to hear that.

I have the same problem. I've tried 3 different roms (including stock eclair) and it still shutters.

I know exactly what it is. Whenever you lose 3G signal, any media playing with mute for approx 1 second. And when the signal returns, same thing. It's very annoying if you're listening to music in a dead area (I tend to listen to mine while I'm at work) and it sometimes cuts off during music, but only for about a second.
check and see your signal strength when you're listening to it and see if you're losing signal (via status bar) during these "skips".

That may explain the random ones that happen in the middle of a song. The ones that were occuring at the beginning of almost every song were what was driving me up the wall the most. I ended up reformatting my SDcard and it seems to have taken care of that problem. Still getting an occasional random one, but I get a really weak signal here at work, so I'll have to test it some more at home. I think you are dead on about it being a "mute" and not an actual skip of the song.
It's just annoying when a high end phone like this can't even play music back as well as some dumb feature phones. Maybe's it's an Android problem and not an Epic one in particular as I've seen some EVO posts of people experiencing the same thing.
Oh, and if I try to mess around on the internet through the browser it tears it up bad. Can't be simply the data connection because using apps like XDA and other apps that access the internet don't affect it at all, just the stock web browser.
Well I found something interesting that really affects it, screen brightness. I usually have my screen brightness set to manual and on the lowest setting. Right before this started happening I switched it to Auto and left it there since. Since the browser brightness has it's own setting switching back and forth really messed with it. Once I turned it back to manual and set both the browser and phone to low it rarely does it if at all, even while browsing. When I turned the browser setting back to high, then as soon as I click a link and it starts downloading it acts up. Weird. Seems like now it must be a power consumption issue as well if it's more likely to do it when the screen is brighter.

That doesn't seem to be caps problem because he said it does the same thing on wifi. Although I am assuming that there is a strong wifi signal.

Been listening for the past hour with the brightness down and on manual and it's worked almost flawlessly.
Hello Everyone,
I've been having this issue for a while (4.2.1 and 4.2.2) where web pages/images/streaming audio simply stop loading at random. Data Arrows stop and about 20 seconds later, it may finally load. The progress bar in chrome freezes during this. Refreshing the page loads the content instantly. Pandora/Slacker typically require a song skip to resume play.
The most reliable way to replicate is browsing imgur gallerys where it happens almost every 5th image. Moving around the city produces the same problem and AT&T says everything is fine on their end. APN settings are correct as well as seeing above average speed tests on HSPA+.
I've tried searching on several popular Nexus 4 forums and found no reports of this problem.
It does not occur on Wireless, only Mobile data.
Does anyone else have this problem (radio to blame) or is my phone possibly defective?
Wiping the device clean and flashing 4.2.2 stock produces the same results.

Ive been having this same problem. When my phone is on wifi data works fine but sometimes when i am using cellular data my data will cut out just like yours. Im on ST with AT&T and i think it has a lot to do with their network not so much your phone.

I'm having the problems. It's specially obvious when sending a Whatsapp message. It sits idle for a while then eventually the message gets sent.
+1 I often need to refresh Web pages and such to get them to fully load even with perfect h+ data. I'm also on att with Straight Talk, wonder if anyone knows of a fix.
Nexus 4
ATT Straight Talk $45/mo
running xylon nightlies 4.2.2 franco r83
^(subject to change often)^
I had an much higher amount of occurrences when I was originally on Straight Talk AT&T. Porting over to true AT&T resolved a lot, but they still exist.
This leads me to believe it may just be AT&T's network, but wouldn't other phones experience the same? None of my other friends on AT&T (with different phones) have experienced this or they simply don't notice.
I get the same problem as well. It also happened on my inspire when I was using that a couple years ago. Never could figure out why. I guess its a network issue.

If you are using an AT&T mvno or using prepaid AT&T, this is normal.
AT&T prioritizes postpaid traffic over prepaid.
Even happens on all iPhone models I've owned. (3gs, 4s, and 5)

Has any one noticed the latency of the WiFi radio after the update,
i sent back my first 6P because i figured it was a bad radio.
Negative it was the update
Test for it by doing this:
Launch play store with with the Cell Radio turned off, and watch the load time on the icons for everything, under NORMAL operation they should be bullet fast and when you scroll to unloaded apps it should "almost instantly propagate"
IF it takes more than 2 seconds obviously you are having the problem as well.
Try this in reverse with the Cell on and WIFI off. On cell it will be bullet fast
I dont know why no one has found this bug yet
I think they M build fixes something with wifi but don't hold me to that 100% I remember reading it somewhere if I remember correctly.

NOPE still sluggish.
bet you 5 bucks you extract the radios from 89d and it works like a mutha fuhhuhhh

I don't notice any latency with the Play Store, it loads in a couple of seconds, and I have a pretty slow internet connection. I experience some pretty bad issues with Chrome though, it won't load pages at all sometimes, I mainly experience this on XDA (in saying that though my Chrome usage is 99% XDA).
Still Latent as all hell, i counted a good 20 seconds before it started to download the speedtest.net app. this is really starting to piss me off
Mine doesn't seem to have any latency but my WiFi DL speeds sit around 170-200mbs with my AC5300 router. I don't have any issues on slower networks either running the M build.
im going to flash the first factory image and see if that does it
ill report back
I had this issue and it was super frustrating. The Play Store wouldn't even load unless I switched it to LTE.
Turns out 6.0.1 fixes it!
