WIFI LATENCY ISSUE After the B08L update - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has any one noticed the latency of the WiFi radio after the update,
i sent back my first 6P because i figured it was a bad radio.
Negative it was the update
Test for it by doing this:
Launch play store with with the Cell Radio turned off, and watch the load time on the icons for everything, under NORMAL operation they should be bullet fast and when you scroll to unloaded apps it should "almost instantly propagate"
IF it takes more than 2 seconds obviously you are having the problem as well.
Try this in reverse with the Cell on and WIFI off. On cell it will be bullet fast
I dont know why no one has found this bug yet

I think they M build fixes something with wifi but don't hold me to that 100% I remember reading it somewhere if I remember correctly.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

NOPE still sluggish.
bet you 5 bucks you extract the radios from 89d and it works like a mutha fuhhuhhh

I don't notice any latency with the Play Store, it loads in a couple of seconds, and I have a pretty slow internet connection. I experience some pretty bad issues with Chrome though, it won't load pages at all sometimes, I mainly experience this on XDA (in saying that though my Chrome usage is 99% XDA).

Still Latent as all hell, i counted a good 20 seconds before it started to download the speedtest.net app. this is really starting to piss me off

Mine doesn't seem to have any latency but my WiFi DL speeds sit around 170-200mbs with my AC5300 router. I don't have any issues on slower networks either running the M build.

im going to flash the first factory image and see if that does it
ill report back

I had this issue and it was super frustrating. The Play Store wouldn't even load unless I switched it to LTE.
Turns out 6.0.1 fixes it!

phone randomly reboot / force close

I picked my Nexus S up this am as the store opened at 9am. I powered it on and away it went it had all of my apps dl in minutes.I had to go into work so I just let it charge on my car charger. Got to work and went to start Cardio trainer ( which is an app I use daily for about 3-5 hours per day) it immediately force closed. Force closes each time I try and use it. So i sent message to dev. The next thing I know I get a message saying that Beautiful Widgets geolocation is getting false reading from the GPS and it force closes. The GPS has been spotty. When first initiated it took over 10 minutes to get a lock. Turned it off and tried again and it took 7 minutes. The third time it was about 15 seconds and since then it alternates back and forth from almost instant to minutes again. What concerns me is that the accuracy just bounces back and forth from 32.6 ft to 16.3 ft and anywhere in between and really never stabilizes. This may be normal for this type GPS systems(I don't know) Also I have the old market and cannot find a link for the new market.Wasn't Gingerbread suppose to come with the new market? So far I am impressed with the smoothness of the system but not with the GPS. Also the lInpack scores are lower than on the Vibrant. Appears to be very solid. Anyone else have any of these problems?

It sounds like a GPS problem with your device, Just get it swapped mate
JD
I've only had FCs using the new google maps so far.
Random FC for me in maps, market and gallery :-/
ive yet to experience a FC
Cardio trainer is not working for me either, I am wondering if the dev's need to update it for 2.3, I also can't get vlingo to work.

I don't think it's a gps thing, I can't even get into cardio without it FC, my GPS locks without a problem.
phone randomly goes to boot animation screen
Ok, so it appears something is wrong with my phone. Every once in a while, i'll look down on my phone or in the middle of doing something, and it will go to the boot animation screen. Most of the time, the boot animation screen is dimmer than on normal start up. It will eventually go back to the ui, which I will then have to restart my phone because it won't connect to wifi or 3g.
Anyone else had this problem? Think it's worthy of getting a replacement from bestbuy or a glitch that should be fixed with an ota?
I haven't seen anything like this yet, though I suppose I don't keep my eye on my phone constantly, so I suppose it could have happened while I wasn't looking. No WiFi or 3G problems, either.
Sounds like you've got a serious issue there if you're seeing it a lot, though. I would get it replaced. Unless you're running a third-party ROM or some other non-stock mod, in which case dump it first and see if the problem is being caused by that.
Yea I had this happen twice. At gym was changing a track with Bluetooth headphones and went to dimmer bootscreen had to pull battery. And another time I had to reapply all my Widgets on my homescreen. I'm on CM7 rom

Are you using a custom ROM/kernel/SetCPU? Those problems sound like the ones the D1 has when it's clocked past a stable speed.

I'd look at the software you've added since the phone was purchased as the first primary suspect. Weird widgets, background services, live wallpapers, background syncing app, something like that...
You'd want to wipe/reset the phone before a return anyways, so why not do a factory wipe/reset from the settings/privacy menu, then start off with a fresh phone (software wise)? Be conservative in what apps you install at first, and check for stability; then slowly add back the stuff you'd have one by one and see which app from the Market causes the glitch.
I think that's a bit more fair to Samsung, Best Buy, and whoever ends up with the device as a refurb, than returning what is probably not bad hardware to the store.

Hmmm...and you don't think the fact that you're using ALPHA level firmware that is known to have some bugs in it, might be your problem?
I'd expect that kind of thing with CM as long as it's alpha, and even beta. I wouldn't be surprised with it even on the RC versions. It's experimental until Team Douche releases an actual ready-for-prime-time version.

Nope, I'm not even rooted. I am however running ADW ex launcher. As far as widgets, the only widget i have running is the weather/news that came stock on the phone. As far as apps, I really don't have anything crazy downloaded or running.

this is similar to the other topic.
Random Reboots, we call it on the SGS (samsung galaxy s) side
hoping for the best, it is not the same deadly problem we found on some of the 16GB SGS phones, that eventually lead to the corruption / destruction of the internal SD
but those were the signs.
so i'm really hoping that is not the same problem, else i'll really be pissed with Samsung to produce yet another crappy phone with cheap internal parts.
it should not be, as i saw pictures of the innards of the SNS (samsung nexus s) and it was clearly showing SandDisk for the 16GB internal SD
Random Reboots
A couple of times I've had the Nexus S reboot, once when I was in the middle of a call and once again as I was messing around with the settings.
I'm running 2.3.1, th latest build GRH78, does anyone have an idea as to why the random reboots are occurring?
Thanks in advance for your help

{Q} I am starting to think its my girl

Hey guys Im a EVo user and my girl has an Epic.
Now the next statement is with either running stock or a custom rom
Her phones slows way down and reboot its required, wifi is odd sometimes a reboot to connect, and today her battery became rather hot over 100 F.
Is there anything I can try out on her phone?
Sounds like a specific phone harware issue, i dont get overheats or slow downs, no matter how many apps are running at the same time and even if i charge and use mobile ap all the time, still no overheats here.
Ive Done this on both stock and custom roms and no overheats or slow down..
darn, thankyou for a reply, guess I'll update her ROM and start her off fresh
I don't get slow downs either. I leave my wifi on all day and don't have issues connecting. I only overheated once. Shortly after I got my phone I was downloading stuff left and right, playing graphics heavy games like radio ball, and trying to charge my nearly dead battery all at the same time. When I got the overheat message I figured it was a sign that I needed to turn the phone off and walk away for a little while.
Either the phone has a problem, or your girl does. (which were pretty much your choices to begin with)
Yep no issue at all here usually always on wifi and I'm a heavy user. I get no slow down or anything and I'm on stock rom with bloatware removed.

My phone does slow down after about 2-3 days of uptime. I'm 100% stock, not rooted. Reboot resolves the issues.
After @ 2-3 day uptime the following happens:
1. I've had issues when rotating between home screens where all my widgets & icons disappear, then come back to normal.
2. Also, sometimes my swiping isn't recognized when trying to cycle home screens.
It's difficult to reproduce on demand, thus making my case to Sprint for replacement even more difficult. So I said screw it, just hoping 2.2.1 will resolve the problems whenever its rolled out OTA.

You may be right. I would get a different girlfriend and see if the overheating/rebooting problem continues. If it stops, we know where the problem was. If the problems continue with the new girlfriend, it may be you.

Atrix GPS and finger reader failure problem

I have the phone for about a week. And I'm quite impressed with its performance. But a few problems bother me since the very beginning and it's on the edge to be returned/exchanged.
I noticed that the GPS locking is pretty fast, compared to my iphone4 with Navigon. However, Atrix lost GPS connections quite often. Last weekend I drove about 100 miles and I have to restart navigation software 4 or 5 times. Re-launching software does work. It locks GPS signals again every time after I restart software. But if I just let it try to search for GPS signal itself, it would never come back. I also tried to turn off WiFi location service but got the same results.
Also, my finger reader sometimes doesn't work. Once in a while, I have to reboot my Atrix because of this. However, reboot doesn't always work so I actually don't know it's a Motorola software problem or a real hardware failure.
Does anyone have any experience to share? Thanks.
I've noticed that my fingerprint scanner doesn't seem to work as well when the battery gets below the 15% range, it could just be this is usually late at night so I don't let it scan right

Nexus 7 extremely slow :(

I got my Nexus 7 in the first batch from Gamestop on the day of release. Initially, the performance was very fast, even faster than my Galaxy S2. However, after a couple of weeks now, it has become extremely slow. It is still stock, havent even rooted it. It is a 16gb model, and has close to 10gb free. I have tried clearing cache, closing all running applications, restarting but nothing really has worked.
The problem is almost every app is very slow. I get a notification of an email, i click on it and then stare at the white email screen for almost 10 sec before it opens up (the regular email app). It almost feels like a different device now than what i bought few weeks back. Other applications that run equally slow - Google Reader, Chrome, WSJ (this is perhaps the worst), Fluent News Reader. I am not much into games so havent tried a lot of them.Oh, and it is no match now to my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket or even HP Touchpad Cm9 that i got rid of last week.
I don't want to exchange it as it does not suffer from all the other problems being reported here (and am afraid that the new one might exhibit those). Please help.
Just a guess, but you most likely loaded something on it that is doing that. Check what you have installed on it, perhaps uninstalling some of the larger things to see if you can figure out what is holding it up.
Stock Nexus 7 Image
If cleaning the device does not work, you can always flash back to the stock image, which can be found on developers.google.com
Be sure to backup your apps and data!
or for the most simple of us...
Setting>Privicy>Factory reset.
That will remove any app that might be causing it.
Be warned tho, i think on this device it wipes the internal storage...
how is your WiFi signal?
seeing how almost every app require internet access, the delay could be it trying to connect.
Actually I thought that too... but my wireless signal is very strong in my small apartment and i have 30mbps line. I checked with speednet app and i am getting 13mpbs down, 4 mpbs up on nexus 7.
I am happy that this seems like my issue only - i will try to remove apps one by one to see if it helps or worst case, i will do a factory reset.
I was wondering if there are any known culprit apps responsible for memory leaks or something.

If you send me a PM, I'll give you my email address and I can help you narrow it down by using screenshots of your app drawer.
install watchdog task manager lite, it monitors app in the background and tells you which one is causing problems.
have you tried turning off gps (location service) and see if hats the issue?
same thing

Just wanted you to know you aren't alone here...I have been seeing the same exact behavior on mine. I have started to uninstall apps one by one. I must be a bad app or something. If not I'm gonna wipe it and start over. It does feel disconcerting to go from easily the best tablet experience I have ever had to it becoming so sluggish.
i have the same problem, mine did the same thing on stock, ran great for a week or two, then became unbearably slow. so i rooted it and it wiped all data and the problem seemed to be fixed. then another week or two passed and its back to slow. i found out after testing with quadrant it has something to do with the i/o on the device, because the i/o score was abnormally lower than all the devices. putting a custom kernel will help, but still the i/o score is still quite low. i dont want to wipe all data again and if anybody knows a fix it would be greatly appreciated
nexus 7 has Kingston eMMC, it is better then the crummy Prime Hynix eMMC, but is eMMC none the less, not proper NAND flash/SSD
Well you could've had a bad app that is bogging your system down. A factory reset may be the only option so you can start fresh

Check the cache size of your Google Playbook or Magazine apps. It keeps downloading large files (400 mb) and may fill up your storage...causing it to slow down?
Having the same issue after owning it for two days. I really wanted to like this tablet, but between the sluggishness, and other various shortcomings, I'm going to be returning mine.
I deleted WSJ app and it seems to have helped a lot - not as fast as new, but a lot better. One thing which still irritates me is email app which just seems to be too slow...
Sorry to say but mine so fast I can't keep it down it trys to fly away lol

Same
has anyone been able to figure this out? I'm having the same problems and I've been running watchdog but there been no out of control process is on my device. I have wiped the device and the same thing just keeps happening after a little while it'll get very slow. it happens more often than not when there something in the background downloading are using the internet, but it's definitely not my connection because I've had no problems with any other devices.
Been getting similar behavior recently. cm10 euroskank, trinity 7.
Edit: in logcat, getting stuff like
I/Choreographer(10656): Skipped 30 frames! The application may be doing too much work on its main thread.
W/InputEventReceiver(10656): Attempted to finish an input event but the input event receiver has already been disposed.
I think I may have come across a solution. For me, the slowdowns were always connected to when something was downloading in the background, or when a process was using data, so I went through and turned off syncing on any non-essential Google services and other apps, and it seems to be working much better right now.

[Q] Device occasionally loses Internet connection for both WiFi and cellular

Now that I've got the Moto X Pure Edition activated, I've been able to work out some of the kinks inherent using it as a daily driver. One noteworthy issue that remains is an odd bug where the device will completely lose connection to the Internet on both a WiFi and cellular data connection, usually after transitioning between types of connections. When this happens, an exclamation point is displayed next to the icon representing whichever connection is currently active and nothing is able to transmit data to or from the Internet or even my local network.
Rebooting the device always fixes the problem, but this issue is materializing a bit too often for my liking, which is usually once every time that I return to a WiFi network after being disconnected from one for some time (more testing may have to be done to confirm exactly what triggers it).
The device is running the stock rom (rooted) and the stock kernel along with the usual tweaks (ad-blocking, Xposed framework, audio fixes, etc.). Anybody seen this before or know what might be causing it?
UPDATE (3/1/2017)
Figured it out! The problem appears to have been caused by my failure to whitelist certain applications in PowerNap. After following the instructions found in the Moto X Pure Edition power optimization thread, the problem appears to have vanished. I don't know if it was the Google Services Framework, JavaTcmdHelper, Android System, or some combination of those that needed to be whitelisted, but the problem has vanished. At least one of those must be responsible for verifying the validity of an Internet connection in sleep mode, which would cause the device to become confused when it would wake up with a different connection that it hadn't verified (that's my theory at least).
At any rate, it is no longer an issue.
Update (Later on 3/1/2017)
Well, it looks like it might not be fixed so well after all. A couple hours after arriving home today, I went to use the device and saw the dreaded "!" next to the network indicator. Still, two days is longer than it's ever lasted before. I've cleared the cache and dalvik/ART cache to see if something in there might be gumming it up and will add another post to this thread if the problem returns.
Still an issue
Looks like it might not be fixed after all. I lost connection again the other day in a parking lot and once more today after getting home. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?
I just recently got my x pure. I've seen this issue on mine too.

That too is interesting. I'm running the stock Rom, (rooted) so we can probably eliminate that as a potential cause. Given how little reference there is to this on the web at large, the problem is probably caused by a common app or setting (or some kind of unfortunate combination) running on both of our phones.
All we need to do is figure out what kind of "unusual" stuff our devices have in common. I'll rattle off a list of software and settings that might be out of the ordinary or network-related; you tell me if you're running anything like it on your phone.
AdFree
A.R.I.S.E. audio
FolderSync
Ice Box (Motorola Update Service is the only frozen app)
TOTAL Wireless My Account App
Pebble, MyTracks, and Pebble MyTracks
SlingPlayer (this one sometimes wakelocks)
Titanium backup (I tried restoring some WiFi access points once, but it didn't work)
Xposed Framework with Amplify, Greenify, and Power Nap installed and configured as instructed in the Moto X Pure Edition battery life guide thread OP. I've also got MinMinGuard and YouTube AdAway.
As far as settings go, I've not got much in the way of unusual configurations. I enabled the system UI tuner to get the battery percentage and the extended developer options to try out multi-window, (and to change the animation scales to .5X) but everything in there is still pretty much stock.
Does your configuration have anything in common with mine?
Close, but no cigar
It got almost 8 days this time before it happened again. I thought that maybe switching to the legacy DHCP client had done the trick, but that was apparently not the case. Any ideas as to what could be causing the issue or how to fix it?
Or, if you're having the same problem, can you look at my list in the previous post and tell me if any of the software or settings are similar so that we can narrow down the cause?
I have had this problem appear about three times over my 13 months of ownership and all three times was when my bootloader was still locked (obviously running stock not rooted). Never found a solution except to reboot.i only unlocked and rooted my device about a month ago.
Anything familiar?

Interesting. Between that, my findings, and the fact that @inkdaddy66 was having the problem on a non-Motorola Rom, I want to think that we can eliminate the Rom software as a cause. Did you see any familiar software on my "potential troublemakers" list up in post 6? I'm thinking that if we can find a common program or workflow, then we'll be able to narrow down the cause of the problem.
In the meantime, I'll try posting in the general Android troubleshooting forum here on XDA and see if anybody there has seen the problem or has any troubleshooting tips.

Nothing used from your list except system UI tuner when I experienced the problems. That would leave either a ROM and/or hardware issue IMO.

Hmmm... That's also interesting, but I just don't see how system UI tuner could be harming anything. Do you have any other apps or settings at all that you think could be causing the issue?
If this were anything other than my primary, I'd hard reset and troubleshoot that way, but I don't exactly have the time to pull the rug out of an otherwise-working setup right now, so this is going to have to be done the hard way (or, in the case of hardware glitch, lived with).
At any rate, I discovered a new symptom earlier in the week. This time, Internet connection was lost, but only for WiFi, so the connection would actually fall back to Cellular and still continue to work. As before, toggling the connection had no effect, but rebooting the device "fixed" it. I thought maybe it was a fluke, since we'd had an AP hiccup over the weekend, (I refuse to reboot that thing because I'm going for an uptime record) but it happened again on Wednesday, so I'm not sure what to make of it.
Side-issue aside, I'm beginning to wonder if it's some kind of combination of network behavior and usage pattern that brings the issue about. It seems like if I stay within range of the WiFi network, no issue develops, but if I move out of its coverage and don't touch the phone for a while, that allows for ideal conditions under which to replicate the problem (sometimes). I haven't nailed down a consistent pattern yet, but the problem does emerge more often when I'm returning home than at other times. Any thoughts?
Update (3/24/2017; 12:32PM)
Scratch that last part about the issue only being triggered upon "arriving home." The problem happened again this morning, in the same general area. First, no WiFI, then, after resetting the connections, no cellular either. I captured a LogCat before rebooting this time though. Anyone want to take a crack at sifting through that to see if it offers any clues?
I lose cellular data, from time to time, I don't kow if I'm losing WiFi capability also, because I'm on the road when this happens.
It takes a reboot or switching in and out of airplane mode to regain data.
I have had this happen on TruPureXMM ROM and stock-rooted Marshmallow.
I have not spent much time on stock-unrooted, so i don't know if it would happen then, also.
Possible fix
Just to follow up on this again, I have finally reached the eighth day of uptime without the problem materializing, which is the longest that I was able to go before without it happening. This time, I went in to the developer options and disabled "Cellular data always active." I'd give it another couple days to know for sure, but if this sticks, then I think we might've found the fix!

I have had this happen on TruPureXMM ROM and stock-rooted Marshmallow.
I have not spent much time on stock-unrooted, so i don't know if it would happen then, also.

If your trouble is isolated to just one connection and/or cycling the connection brings it back, then the issue you are experiencing is unrelated to the one described in this thread.

Cellular data always active should never be on (it's disabled in stock rom), except if you have VoLTE only with no fallback to 3G or 2G (Jio is the only provider that comes to mind, but this phone doesn't support their service anyway) or otherwise unusual scenarios I can't really think of.
Huh, and CELLULAR DATA ALWAYS ACTIVE (for faster network switching) sounds like such a good thing.
Mine was selected on.
My loss of data happens in the same spot, usually, but is not leaving wifi. Perhaps it is a tower to tower handoff spot.
I turned it off. Time will tell.
Thanks, fellas!

Always on is not necessarily a good thing. Reality is that when you lose or turn off WiFi, mobile data should only be delayed only by a second or two. There is no real benefit to having it on except for maybe VOLTE.

Actually, it's a battery killer more than anything else... It keeps cellular data active even when on WiFi.
It is possible it's a tower thing though. I have noticed at this one hotel I stay at frequently people tell me they call and it rings or just goes to voicemail even though I have good signal. After investigating it a bit, I'm in a spot that has nearly identical signal strength from 3 towers and it's a metro area so there are 4+ bands accessible... I've seen times watching LTE Discovery where it keeps switching bands and towers for 30 to 120 seconds or so, like it can't make up it's mind what to talk to because it's confused, then it locks on for a while before it starts it's cycle again. During those cycles I think is when people can't call me, can't really say if it affects internet or not since I tend not to use my phone too much in the evenings when I'm on the road (usually on laptop).
Uptime record, but... it's back

Interesting. I thought for sure that I had the default settings checked in there, but maybe I did change it early on and just forgot. Either way, waiting an extra five seconds to establish a data connection isn't that huge of a deal for me, so I'll leave it off anyway in exchange for battery life when the signal's poor.
At any rate, however, the problem has returned. I was just a few hours short of 9 days of uptime and really thought that I was out of the woods with this problem, but it has returned once again upon returning into range of the home access point. Looks like we're back to the drawing board on this one.

So you're having the same problem too? That makes at least four of us now. Do you mind sharing what Rom and flashed tweaks (Xposed Framework, A.R.I.S.E. audio, root, etc.) you're using as well as any unusual software or settings? Anything in common with my list on page 1?

I think we've established that my issue is different, but it has occurred on TruPureXMM and stock but rooted Marshmallow, both with Substratum, Xposed (Gravity Box only) and Viper Atmos.
Same as you =Titanium Backup
*another* new strategy (sigh)
For this week's shot in the dark, I'm going to try manually switching WiFi off before I leave anyplace covered by an access point. Since the problem seems to occur most often when connected to WiFi or when connecting to it, maybe this will make some kind of a difference.
