Speedtests on EVO - EVO 4G General

Um. So I've used the speedtest apps for awhile and they are pretty garbage. I've found the best Speedtests to run are the same ones I use for my pc.
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest
The flash on this site seems to run just fine on the evo. I ran a speedtest to Atlanta with the app and 4g on. I got 1.9 mbps. I ran the Speakeasy website and got 6.9 mbps.
Same when I run the Speedtests from my isp. Better through the browser.

You need to pick the right server in the app.
Midwest = Chicago server for me.

Thanks... ill give it a try

I did I get crap results in the ookla app. The popular one. The test I ran was Atlanta on both. Whether is the same server in Atlanta who knows. But my results with the website based Speedtests are more consistent with 4g's advertised speeds. Which makes me think Sprint has been getting a bad wrap for their 4g speeds.
I'm sure I'm not the only person to notice 4g in practice is much faster than the speedtest apps would seem to indicate.
Ps I am in Orlando.

I have to agree that the results from the speedtests application are certainly way off from the website. Ran mine on Atlanta as well as I am in Winter Park, FL with excellent WiMAX coverage. Results, with full 4G WiMAX:
Speedtest app: 2.5mb down, 0.90mb up
Speakeasy.net: 9.7mb down, 0.97mb up

I ran my test in altamonte springs .. hehe

I'm getting 4-10Mbps using speakeasy test via browser depending on location. Am using CM nightly 28. Something is wrong with the app based tests as I rarely see over 2Mbps.

so far then 3 people have seen the same pattern. Can other people try this and see what they get. I'd be really interested to track down the discrepancy between the web vs the app.

Speedtest 3.22/1.14
Speakeasy 8.27/1.13

Wow thats a massive difference
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

It all depends on the server that you choose in the app. I live in St. Louis, MO. If I choose the St. Louis server, I get around 2.4Mb/sec download. If I select the Wichita, KS server which is over 500 miles away, I get around 9Mb/sec.

I've still found speakeasy to be more acurate though.

For me Atlanta and Harold, KY are about the only servers that give decent speeds around Orlando. I've gotten +8Mbs from the Ky one before
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

I was not concerned with the speed so much as the difference between the Speedtests to the same location. Which is why I said Atlanta. I'm fairly certain that the Atlanta server the ookla app is using is the same Atlanta server Speakeasy is using.
My concern is that the ookla app on the EVO is not displaying accurate results. The 2 tests should have the same speed results.

Anyone have speed test results?
Service has been spotty with the upgrades but today I've been ranging from 3-5mb downloads and 512k-2.5mb uploads.
On a side note...my Quadrant score was just 2899

I've been getting 4-5 Mbps down for a while now. The highest I've seen was 6.02. I almost always get about .6 Mbps up. Just for reference, I'm in Lincoln Park.

I was getting 3.5 down - 1.5 the other night on the train at Rt. 59 headed west.

T-MOBILE HSPA+ Speed Test speeds on the Samsung Nexus s

Ok if u look at the screen shot down below I recorded multiple test on T-Mobiles HSPA+ speeds with one test showing 36 mbps upload and also one saying 16 mbps. I'm confused because I thought the SNS could only handle speeds of 8 something mbps because it's not HSPA+ native like the Galaxy S4G with theoretical speeds of 21mbps. So anyone have any idea why these speeds are showing up? My nexus s is running Gingabread on T-Mobile USA also cyanogen mod 7 RC1 I believe with team whiskeys voodoo color and oc kernel. Here's the pics

I took these speedtest in a city called Rancho Cucamonga, CA zip code 91739 its a suburb of LA, Cali

I think the speedtest.net test actually seems to cache the data from a server. I had to keep selecting different cities to get accurate results.

~Sent from my Nexus S with Swype~
If you are using a certain website speed test (I forget the site at the moment) then you get really high fake speeds.
The only accurate test is using the speed test app or fcc speed app.
Not sure why people keep begging for screen shots and yelling fake. It's obvious some sort of caching tampered with the results and they aren't real as HSPA+ on T-mobile is limited to 21mbps and the NS is only HSPA compatible with 7.2mbps...
It happens quite often with speed tests. Even on PCs.

4G has also really improved just recently...not so much that's its faster, but signal remains much more consistantly.
Am much happier.
Lucky you. My 3G is still as fast as a frozen glacier.
Edit: Even you previous 700-800 kb speeds are 3 times faster than what I get.

I have the latest PRL, but the "amazing roaming speeds" are because you are running off of Verizon towers when you're roaming.......it has nothing to do with Sprint.
Edit: Also, I don't want to force the phone to roam on Verizon in any way. Hopefully some of whatever you're getting comes my way sooner than later.

Yea im also getting like 5-6mbps down on 4g before it was like 3-3.5
My 3G speeds in Orlando are kinda slow. Roaming or not, they are actually a little slower when roaming. So I just use 4G as often as I possibly can.

MY speeds in Jacksonville (Right along the line of ST Augustine) has increased GREATLY! My speeds went from 50-80 kpbs to 1800-220 kbps DL. And about 10 kbps upload, now 550 (on average). It's great! Beats Verizon's speed @ my house (tested w/ a friend's HTC Eris).

Oh, ok.....I must have misunderstood what you typed earlier.
My max speeds when roaming hit 250 kbps, because when you roam, Verizon only shares their 2G (not 3G) speeds.

Yes indeed VZW 3g is nice. Sprint in Louisiana is horrible...20 kilobit to 50 kilobits for me. Data is useless unless I force roam.
My speeds in Tallahassee were great for about the first 4-6 months of owning the phone, now it's merely decent and there's been no improvement.

Actually getting hspa+ on at&t gophone!!

I just renewed my data and decided to test my speed compared to WiFi and was very pleasently surprised with speeds of 3mbps down and around 1.5 mbps up. Usually I'm lucky to get 1mbps down so this is a very odd improvement

[Help]Super slow data at work

I honestly don't know what's causing this, I get solid 3.0MB/s at home(not Mbit/s) and at work I get 7-15kB/s. I walk around the house I work in, inside and out to no avail, any tips and help would be greatly appreciated.

Noooo, it's not your neighbor. LOL.
Has this happened to your before you got the n4?
If you work in a office building, walls could be the culprit that you are not getting fast down speeds. Maybe t mobile is refarming the area where you work. There are dozens of possibilities why you're not getting speedy down speeds. Do not rely completely on t mobile's coverage map, no carrier's coverage map is 100 percent accurate.

It happened to me last week but I am on straight talk at&t sim card.too days after refilling up service I was getting 120-190 kbps /when I was getting before with s2 was 5000mbps -7000mbps so I called straight talk and they refresh my service and now I'm getting good speeds again
Don't take T-Mobiles word for it. Look at the coverage area map on their site and see how coverage is in your area compared to where you work, then troubleshoot from there. Could be walls of the building or just coverage issue. Compared to average speed on the N4 3Mbs is petty slow. I get that for my upload for example.

He said 3MB/s which is different than 3Mbps. (i've started using the switches now AND case sensitive Bs because people still don't notice the difference Maybe we should just go 3MiB instead now as that would stand out more )
Then again getting 3MB/s would equate to about 27Mbps straight.... even DC-HSPA+ might have a tough time doing that other than for a burst here and there.
Definitely not a building issue, as its a small house where I watch clients. Even walked around the house to see if I could get better speeds. My bars are full, T-Mobile is just spotty I guess. Also never happened on my defy, guy at tmobile said it was my phone, I lol'd hard and walked out of the store.
And thank you for noticing that I used MegaByte rather then Megabit. For those unknowing, there's eight bits in a byte

Go outside your work and see if speeds are improved. I'm thinking that the walls of your building are made up of something that's brutal on RF penetration.
I'm having a similar issue. I get great speeds at home and at work. But it's pretty much unusable at my school. I know it was working fine before the winter break so it leads me to think that the issue started after they enabled the 1900 band here in San Antonio.

Like aluminum siding, it's kryptonite to T-Mobile's signal.
Just seems like a hole in the signal, probably a temporary thing, but data speeds don't pick up for around a mile radius.

Typical T-Mobile, I have the same type of signal black hole around my house and its been there for over 10 years.
Good news, flashed Franco kernel and can see an increase from the 7-10kB/s to about 50-130kB/s strange thing is, upload speed is up to par at 1.3MB/s
