Chicago 4g T-Mobile - Vibrant General

Anyone have speed test results?
Service has been spotty with the upgrades but today I've been ranging from 3-5mb downloads and 512k-2.5mb uploads.
On a side note...my Quadrant score was just 2899
Vibrant
Fusion 1.2 - Core V3

I've been getting 4-5 Mbps down for a while now. The highest I've seen was 6.02. I almost always get about .6 Mbps up. Just for reference, I'm in Lincoln Park.

In the N/W suburbs I've been getting 1.5-2.0 Mbps downloads. I'm also on Axura 2.0.2.

Nice. I'm in evanston. In the last couple of weeks my speeds have begun to be more reliably on the top sides of my numbers. Honestly through I really wasn't paying that much attention before so out may have been liked this for longer.

Rogers park and I get about the same. Just did a test 1.3D .61U That's slow on average it's in ar4D. Seems to not be as good down town but not bad.

Anyone in the Aurora Naperville area? That's where my parents live I was wondering if the 4G goes outside of Chicago that far or if it's just in the city.

I was getting 3.5 down - 1.5 the other night on the train at Rt. 59 headed west.

3G connection?

Is anyone else getting horrible 3G connections? I'm in Marietta, Ga. Im getting on average .34 mbps down and .23 up. On wifi at home I'm getting around 14.31 down and 4.00 up.

Yeah I have pretty bad 3G coverage over here in NYC as well.
Mine seems to be pretty cool. It's just a cheap feeling phone with a not too strong antenna or something. I notice that when u are around a bad reception area... the phone doesn't hold up at all!

Congestion is the number one cause of slow 3G. Is Marietta going HSPA+?
To the others the OP isn't talking about coverage if you didn't understand.
No, I meant my 3G is slow because of the coverage I am having as well, lol.
I'm in nyc and get about 4.5mb up and 1.3 down...

Nyc here getting bumped to edge speeds all the time. Really frustrating. Never had this issue with my G1.

I am really on the fence on this at the moment. I do love the phone, but when I have my HD2 and my Vibrant in the same spot, holding them the same way, here in my office, the HD2 has a solid 4 bar 3G signal, whereas the Vibrant has 0 to 1 bar, switching between 3G and Edge back and forth.
I think I give it another few days, trying a few different locations, but was just wondering if anyone else experiences something like this, before I go through RMA'ing it and reinstalling everything, etc...

slow 3G in north county San Diego
I am very disappointed with Tmobile's 3G speed. With Good signal strength, it averages 0.75 mbps down 0.7 mbps up. Will this get better when HSPA+ is available?

Slow internet in Miami

Anyone been getting pretty slow network speed tests in Miami Florida?
4g can't seem to go past 350kb/s and 3g is around .4 mbit according to speedtest....

2.48 down, .85 up. Indoors in Miami, Coral Way and 22nd Ave. On occasions I do get 7dwn and 1up. What's up with that?
I've been thinking of getting Clear at home to replace my Comcast but those speeds are holding me back. Hopefully once Sprint/Clear finishes rolling out new cities they'll expand and beef up the cities they've finished, at least thats my hope.

Yeah it is a bit disappointing... Around west kendall they just lit up the 4g about a week ago however I feel that my 3g got worse.... Gay!

I'm up in broward & inside my house the 3g sux ass & 4g can't Evan get a signal , out aide though its a hole different thing I get full 3g & 4G if I'm in range I'm getting pretty good signal .
I work in Miami lakes & the signal is not that great either .
My theory is that the 3g is about to be Evan slower as soon as they have more 4G towers , every 4G tower that comes up we will have less 3g signal

Speedtests on EVO

Um. So I've used the speedtest apps for awhile and they are pretty garbage. I've found the best Speedtests to run are the same ones I use for my pc.
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest
The flash on this site seems to run just fine on the evo. I ran a speedtest to Atlanta with the app and 4g on. I got 1.9 mbps. I ran the Speakeasy website and got 6.9 mbps.
Same when I run the Speedtests from my isp. Better through the browser.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
You need to pick the right server in the app.
Midwest = Chicago server for me.
Thanks... ill give it a try
I did I get crap results in the ookla app. The popular one. The test I ran was Atlanta on both. Whether is the same server in Atlanta who knows. But my results with the website based Speedtests are more consistent with 4g's advertised speeds. Which makes me think Sprint has been getting a bad wrap for their 4g speeds.
I'm sure I'm not the only person to notice 4g in practice is much faster than the speedtest apps would seem to indicate.
Ps I am in Orlando.

I have to agree that the results from the speedtests application are certainly way off from the website. Ran mine on Atlanta as well as I am in Winter Park, FL with excellent WiMAX coverage. Results, with full 4G WiMAX:
Speedtest app: 2.5mb down, 0.90mb up
Speakeasy.net: 9.7mb down, 0.97mb up
I ran my test in altamonte springs .. hehe
I'm getting 4-10Mbps using speakeasy test via browser depending on location. Am using CM nightly 28. Something is wrong with the app based tests as I rarely see over 2Mbps.
so far then 3 people have seen the same pattern. Can other people try this and see what they get. I'd be really interested to track down the discrepancy between the web vs the app.
Speedtest 3.22/1.14
Speakeasy 8.27/1.13
Wow thats a massive difference
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
It all depends on the server that you choose in the app. I live in St. Louis, MO. If I choose the St. Louis server, I get around 2.4Mb/sec download. If I select the Wichita, KS server which is over 500 miles away, I get around 9Mb/sec.
I've still found speakeasy to be more acurate though.

For me Atlanta and Harold, KY are about the only servers that give decent speeds around Orlando. I've gotten +8Mbs from the Ky one before
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I was not concerned with the speed so much as the difference between the Speedtests to the same location. Which is why I said Atlanta. I'm fairly certain that the Atlanta server the ookla app is using is the same Atlanta server Speakeasy is using.
My concern is that the ookla app on the EVO is not displaying accurate results. The 2 tests should have the same speed results.

Unhappy with 4G

Not even gonna discuss speed and bytes per second. I'm lucky if I stay connected rooted or not rooted. How can sprint be.proud about their 4G network if its not stable. Anyone have a steady 4G connection. I'm in NYC.

Also in the Bay Area, CA. Pretty stable. Constantly 9-10 mbps. Not trying to rub it in the author of this threads face, just saying it might be your area buddy. Hopefully that changes soon.

I have steady 4G, in suburbs of LA.
I have a tower outside my office, and if I'm outside, 4 bars. Once I go inside, the building....poof it is gone. Which is normal for the very high frequency WiMax is on, it just does not penetrate walls very well. Connection speed during the day is horrible, but goes up when normal people are still sleeping 4am, it might hit 5 mbps.

Depends on where you are. On my 3D i get a connection on the edge of my bed lmao. Whenever I travel to central west palm my 4G is kicking ass.
I Haz 3D!
I have decent coverage when traveling around Nashville TN but when I'm inside a building, or my house, I'm lucky to stay connected and have more than 1 or 2 "curved bars". penetration sucks with Wimax.

I have a steady 4g and I live in NYC as well, specifically Williamsburg. I get about 4 bars outside, one to two bars while inside.
When I lived at my parents house in the Bronx, I got full signal from inside their apartment and it was great.
Where do you live that you get bad coverage? I always considered NYC to have great coverage, but so never tried it in Queens. It may be worst there.

I'm in St. Louis, and I find it to be pretty thin. As others have mentioned, the frequency means that it just doesn't work well indoors. And it destroys my already terrible battery life. However, if I can get a signal, and if I'm near a charger, the speed is very nice.
Overall I'd say my WiMax experience is a C-.
HERE IS A FACT. this is A FACT! Sprints 4G network is a joke. They have no real workable 4G network. Having a tower here and there doesn't work! Sprint HAS NO PLANS IN ANY FORM OR WAY TO INCREASE THEIR WIMAX 4G NETWORK! They are coming out with LTE phones for a reason. because they are stupid and don't know how to run a company. Other companies LTE networks were LARGER than Sprints ON THEIR FIRST DAY TURNED ON!
My biggest annoyance with 4g is that sometimes it won't load a webpage. With 2-3 bars of 4g even. The progress bar will get about halfway, then stall out. It downloads files quick, but for some reason just has issues with webpages.

I had the same problem when i first got my Evo and I was pissed, when I called Sprint, we went through all kinds od procedural BS, but after a month of calls to Sprint and HTC, we came to the conclusion that it was a hardware issue and could not be repaired, so they gave me a new phone. Then I was getting 5 Mb per second. I advise you to let Sprint know and do not give up, they will replace your phone with whatever you want, make sure to let them know how pissed you are, it helps

I just renewed my data and decided to test my speed compared to WiFi and was very pleasently surprised with speeds of 3mbps down and around 1.5 mbps up. Usually I'm lucky to get 1mbps down so this is a very odd improvement
