When I press the search button it sends me to Internet Explorer Bing page instead of showing the specific Bing Search screen! Why?

Thank you! That was the problem. The search language was Romanian. I changed it to English (United States) and now first I obtain the Bing Search Screen.

Hi Guys,
Could I trouble someone to post the files that make up the default browser page for the unbranded HD2's?
o2 in their infinite wisdom set the defaults to wap.o2 etc... But I prefer the local page that links to the google search.
Thanks
In your browser settings menu you have an optin to choose your desired Home page. Open Opera and access the settings menu from the small black icon tha appears at the bottom right of the screen.
Regards,
Carty..

Are you after Opera, or IE?
Don't worry about it. Here's both...
Opera
file://localhost/windows/htc-opera.htm
Internet Explorer
\windows\home.html
Hope that helps
Cheers Guys....
Opera... Sorry!
That file doesn't appear in my windows directory. In fact there's surprisingly few htm files.
I need the png's from the htm file as well as the file. from the htc-opera.htm I need.
HTCLogo_l.png
input_field.png
SearchButton.png
I have an old copy of the htc-opera, however it only renders the search box.
Thanks
Neville
It's changed slightly - not the same image files any more, so I've zipped up the required files for you.
Can you not just set that page as blank and then use the google search on the internet tab, or the one that appears bellow the address bar in the browser?
Call me anal.... I just like it that way...
Thanks for the files.. all sorted now...
Changed the search to point at google.co.uk
Thank again.
Neville
Just as the title says. I have no clue where to find that information.
Thanks.
usually you can see that after you open the keyboard, by clicking the small upward arrow near the keyboard symbol, you should see either an "about..." link, or by going into the keyboard settings, there will be something there telling you detailed info

Nope, there's no such "about" information. Not with my version of Swype anyway. I would also like to know the version I have, but have no idea how to find out.

The swype keyboard is not part of the software that comes with the phone, its a cab on here. Search for swype and you should find it....http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all

Hi,
Using IE and clicking into the address bar then entering a search term and clicking Go... T-Mobile are directing to Google!
I want it to go to Bing as it did on the ported HD2 rom I was using but I can't find the Search Provider option anywhere in settings.
Any suggestions how to change it? I'm hoping it isn't to do with debranding as I really would like to avoid flashing a rom just to fix it.
Can't believe how Bing is so integrated into the phone and T-Mobile are allowed to hijack the search to Google.

Nah you don't have to flash a new ROM (though there are benefits to doing so). There is actually a registry fix for this (but you'll need to dev unlock your phone).

Actually Operators do have agreement with different search engines within the browser.
From the home screen hitting the search button should bring up Bing.
But hitting the search button while the Internet Explorer is on your screen brings up what the operator has set as the default.
T-Mobile USA has Google
AT&T has Bing
Some UK devices go to Yahoo.
So it really depends on the operator and you can't do anything about it, besides hitting the Windows Button before hitting the search button

Oh. Well that's a bit crap.
Why don't you flash to a stock rom?
I've did it with an Orange Omnia 7.
+ You're the first to get updates...
Otherwise, you depend from your operator.

Ahh, brilliant. Thanks.
I am using Omnia7 with 7720.
in Maps application i was not able to see "get directions button" i see only Me button in maps
is it changed or any other way to get directions????
any help?
What you need to do is change the browser & search language in the region+language in the settings on the phone to another country near to you and test bing maps and see if it appears. if it doesn't try another country.
E.G. If i set my phones browser & search Language to English (New Zealand) i don't get the directions button. If i set it to English (Australia) i do get the directions button in Bing maps. Most likely because the phone was never officially sold in NZ.
thank you very much .. my problem got solved...

Read the instructions on the map page under "Usage:". Basically you center and zoom in on the area you want to map with "navigate". Then switch to "select" and drag a rectangle to cover the map area. Finally, click on "Get Map". It's easiest to use a computer with a mouse and then rename and move the map to your Nexus.
