o2 Branded Browser Home Page - HD2 General

Hi Guys,
Could I trouble someone to post the files that make up the default browser page for the unbranded HD2's?
o2 in their infinite wisdom set the defaults to wap.o2 etc... But I prefer the local page that links to the google search.
Thanks

In your browser settings menu you have an optin to choose your desired Home page. Open Opera and access the settings menu from the small black icon tha appears at the bottom right of the screen.
Regards,
Carty..

Are you after Opera, or IE?

Don't worry about it. Here's both...
Opera
file://localhost/windows/htc-opera.htm
Internet Explorer
\windows\home.html
Hope that helps

Cheers Guys....
Opera... Sorry!
That file doesn't appear in my windows directory. In fact there's surprisingly few htm files.
I need the png's from the htm file as well as the file. from the htc-opera.htm I need.
HTCLogo_l.png
input_field.png
SearchButton.png
I have an old copy of the htc-opera, however it only renders the search box.
Thanks
Neville

It's changed slightly - not the same image files any more, so I've zipped up the required files for you.

Can you not just set that page as blank and then use the google search on the internet tab, or the one that appears bellow the address bar in the browser?

Call me anal.... I just like it that way...
Thanks for the files.. all sorted now...
Changed the search to point at google.co.uk
Thank again.

Lots of n00bie questions

Hi to all, have had my xda 2 for a couple of months now, starting to play with it and have a few questions for those in the know
So if you could help out it will be appreciated TIA
1 Under the my xda>connections>select country, whaen i choose UK then finish, after the restart i check and the country has returned to Germany, i get around this by not clicking finish, it works but its annoying.
2 I used to have an mpx200 when i recieved email notifications from various forums i frequent it would contain the message as well, handy for knowing whats been posted without having to log on to the forum and troll through page after page, at the moment the email on the xda is truncated, is there a way around this ??
3 I know there are other browsers out there for the xda2 but can anyone recommend a good one that will resize pages so that i dont have to scroll horizontally to read forum reply's etc etc
Thats about it for now, sorry to be so long winded, any and all help is appreciated, TIA
If you go into Mail accounts, click on the Account tab and click on your POP3 account, follow Next, Next, Next, then Options, finally Next, Next again - you should get Options (3/3).
Here you'll find a dropdown where it should for you say Get message headers only, with the a tick in Include 50k or something. Change the dropdown to Get full copy of messages, and you'll also notice the tickbox is now disabled. This should download the full content of emails when you next try.
Not sure about the Germany thing, and also the internet explorer. You have tried to use the Fit To Screen option in IE's View menu? Usually does the trick for me.
Cheers

Screen Size in I.E.
Hi,
I use a product called ThunderHawk. You can download a demo.
Its about as close to desktop web access as you are likely to get.
Hope this helps.

How do i reinstate Opera as default browser after installing/uninstalling Skyfire

Can't find an answer to this using search so forgive me if i missed it.
Pretty much as the title states, i was intrigued with the prospect of skyfire so i gave it a go, doing so pushes internet explorer to the default browser (hateful program!!).
I just need to get opera as the default browser again.
Any help grateful.
in operas setting there is one which makes it set as default browser, (but i cant see it on mine??? ,might be cos i upgraded to the flash version on here????)
open opera, go to settings have a look around, i couldnt see it either....
although you can try this...
:extra:
go to opera and then go to this page opera:config
you will find alot of extra settings here to change things about
there must be a registry setting for which is default browser might be as simple as what open ".html" files
Use a registry edit
I have had to do this a couple of times now through playing with alternative broswers. I read elsewhere that if you type opera:config into the address bar in opera, you can bring up all the preferences. Apparently checking 'Browser First Time Launch' in the 'Install' section is supposed to reinstate Opera as the default browser, but it didn't work for me.
I have found the easiest way is simply to use a reg fix by using a registry editor (I have been using EveryWan which also allows you to remote control your Touch HD as well as many other useful tools: http://www.sparus-software.com/Device-Management/Products/EveryWAN-Remote-Support,43/THE-ULTIMATE-TOOL-FOR-HOTLINERS.html).
Edit the registry as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\: DEFBROWSER
"0"=Opera Browser
"1"="\Windows\OperaL.exe\"
After this everything should be hunkydory
Regards,
Guy
Will give this ago, maybe this should go wiki? if it's not already.
The possibiltys that skyfire/other new browsers may tempt to install but lose the default functionality of opera, which in my mind is superb on the HD.
Thanks Chaps
Hey. thanks for all the suggestions. I did change the registry values, according to the instructions above, I did tick the install option in Opera config, and still I get IE opening when I click on a link in RSS Feed. Anyone has another idea?
Thanks!

This is relevant to my interests. I really dislike IE opening my rss feeds as well.
I also have this problem.
It happened after installing and unistalling skyfire.
Every time I click in a link (for example in the email) it opens in the IE.

Since I wrote the post above I have discovered that using the internal Opera method is the best because not only does it reinstate Opera as the default for opening links from e-mails, but it also resets the default program for RSS reader which was driving me nuts.
I did mention this briefly previously, but simply load up Opera and then type opera:config in the address bar. This will bring up all the settings. Now find the 'Install' section and expand the section by tapping the word 'Install'. Now check the 'Browser First Time Launch' box and then tap 'Save'. It will come up with some nonsense about running a javascript command, but just select okay and then quit out the browser and re-start.
I found the above method reset Opera as my default for all apps, so hope it works.
Good luck,
G
Sure this works. Any way to reverse the setting ? i.e. not to make Opera the default browser anymore...

Gisbourne,
Could you help-out on how to set my Opera as default?. I tried your suggestion on Post # 3 & 11. But it did not did the trick. I tried also the following suggestion:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila2D\InternetWidget\
"OperaEXEFile"=<Path to Opera>
"WebBrowserType"=dword:00000001
I can't input the characters "dword:00000001" on WebBrowserType, coz I got only three (3) choices either Binary, Decimal or Hexadecimal. Tried to put the characters, but my home screen (M2D) keeps on reseting when I go to the widgets.
Maybe you still have something under your sleeve to help me out . Thanks in advance.

I will help you more with links and such, the problem is that im browsing on my HD.

Changing from Opera 9.5 to 9.7 on Internet tab

Hi,
Hope someone can help me with this. I have installed opera 9.7 beta onto my HD but cannot work out how to set it up so that when I press the internet tab it uses 9.7 and not 9.5. Does anyone have a way of doing this?
i have the same query. i tried search but found nothing.
slightly off topic.
i`m using "Three" 3G provider in Hong Kong and it takes ages to surf the net. i put the sim in my old N95 and the browsing is much faster. so it must be my HD. i tried changing the cache settings etc as suggested when i searched the issue but its still a crap net surfing experience.
any suggestions anyone?

Hi again,
Thanks for that however, the first version demonstrated using total commander does not work as I can't save the file due to write protection, I have tried to remove it using the comment idea by Lace in the fuze mobility site but it still won't save.
The second version works OK but the shortcuts still revert back to Opera 9.5. If I don't use the shortcuts then it uses 9.7.
Using Total Commander, I changed the assossiation of InternetPortal-en-GB.xml to Opera9-ml.exe from Opera9.exe and the icon file as well, these are both in the program directory. This appears to work but I don't know which version of Opera it is actually using, is there a way of checking this?

Sorry - I have no idea how to correct that...
i had to do a hard reset.
then i added links to the opera6 adr file which put the links in the TF 3d, but it still doesnt work very well.
i`ll continue to post if i`m successfyl.
ok, i got it to work. sort of.
firstly i added <BrowserExe>\Windows\OperaL.exe</BrowserExe>
to the “InternetPortal-en-US.xml”.
then i moved the OperaL and opera9-ml files to windows. when i renamed the opera9-ml to opera9 as suggested it didnt work at all, it just says cant find the file. so i left it as is.
if i click on a bookmark the opera mobile small splash screen starts and then it hangs. if i press the "x" and close it, the browser opens and goes to the link. so i suppose it works, but its a bit annoying i have to press the x everytime.
if anyone has a solution let me know. thanks
Having upgraded to Opera 9.7 following the instructions found here I got that to work really easy, BUT does anyone know how to change (or remove) the links found below the Opera button in TF3D??

A problem with deleted registry keys

Hi folks,
I was trying to change the Favourites icons on the HD2, having found them in the Windows > Thumbnails folder, and managed to delete both of the registry keys in doing so. I thought they would reappear if I removed and replaced the Favourites, but they haven't, and now I am left with no website icon at all, just the grey 'internet' icon. I have set other Favourites to different buttons, and these work fine, the registry keys having appeared. How can I fix the problem with the first two icons?
Thanks for any help.
Simon.

No, it was one of those {xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx} type keys, and I have no idea what the letters and numbers were now. I'm just annoyed with myself for not taking a backup first. It was the old "It'll be alright" syndrome.
Make a backup of your phone (e.g. with SPB Backup), then Hard-reset, then restore backup.
Thanks. I was hoping to avoid that, but I think I'll have to.
Have you only tried setting them as what they were before, or have you tried setting them to different favourites?
I had a similar problem and got round it by modifiying the URL in a way that would not change the location, but make the UI think it was different, and therefore reloaded the icons.
Yes, I've tried with different URLs, and they work. The problem definitely seems to be with the URL. If I use that same URL in any of the other button links, they too won't display the thumbnail, but will for any other URL, and any other URL also works in the two buttons I've 'broken'. Seems I need some way to make it completely forget those two URLs, so that I can start again. Deleting them from Favourites doesn't do it, as the same thing happens again when I redo them.

Then try this trick - it's how I fixed the exact problem.
Remove the problem favourites from the internet tab.
Open either Opera or IE so you can edit your favourites.
Modify the URL of the problematic favourites by adding ?a=1 (If the URL already has a ? and then some other stuff, put &a=1 instead).
You should now be able to add the favourites back to the internet tab, and after a visit to them in Opera they should have refreshed (fingers x'ed!)
Let us know how you get on

OK, well, that works, until I remove the '?a=1' and go back to the original URL. If I don't do that, the browser ignored the ';wap2' suffix, and opens up the full site, which I don't want, as it's a forum, and it's 100 times easier to use the 'wap' interface. If I add ';wap2' after the '?a=1', then it does open the wap interface, but takes me to the index page, rather than Unread Posts, which is what the bookmark is for.
I know I'm being a bit fussy and anal, but these two forums are the ones I Admin on, so I use the bookmark links all the time, and it's going to be annoying if they don't work the way I want them to.
Thanks for the suggestion, though, and if you can think of a way to get it to work, I'd be more than grateful. I won't post the full link, so as not to spam, but the URLs are both the same, and are variants of:
http://www.[myforum].com/smf/index.php?action=unread;wap2

internet favorite shortcut tabs missing site images......

hey guys,i thought when you added an internet favorite item shortcut to one of the tabs in the internet tab in sense it added an image of the page in the shortcut tab....mine doesnt,i just have like a black background with a grey circle and the name of the site underneath.i know its not a deal breaker but id rather see an image of the site iv added.any reasons why this small issue is having my life lol...?
cheers.....
Are you using Opera 10 by any chance? If so, this feature will not work. What i tend to do is set these up in the pre-installed Opera and then install 10 - the images don't update, but it's better than the grey boxes!
No idea if not that...
I had a sneaky feeling that was why.yeah im using the latest version of opera.bit gutted as i prefer the look of sense to the opera page but im also using this as the blank boxes look dull.i hope a fix sorts it out sometime......cheers bud.

So here's a quick fix - I tried this the other day when I forgot to visit my shortcuts before installing Opera 10. Uninstall Opera 10 and visit each of your shortcuts using the default Opera browser - make sure it is set as the default browser, PIE may try to muscle in.
The site images will not be dynamic, but at least you will have better than the grey box and an out of date page image is still pretty recognisable.
When you have done, simply reinstall Opera 10. Not quick, not clever, but it should work in the short term.

If you can get any image for the shortcuts you can then change them to any pic you want. The thumbnails are stored in Windows/Thumbnail. I make a 512x512 png image for each shortcut and copy them to the folder using the same name. Now I have detailed icons for my opera shortcuts. Original resolutions were 512x512.

Hi,
I have tried this and had no luck, the thumbnail didn't appear. Do the png files have to be any particular format or size? Or am I doing something else wrong? running stock 1.66 rom and opera beta 3......
