so im in bit of dilema... I had a iPad (yay its gone) and i want to buy a Xoom. I frequently used my iPad for school but now that i dont have it im realizing how much i really needed it @[email protected]
So my problem, will stores (bestbuy in particular) have the Xoom on Sunday (3/27)? Or should i just buy the normal one tomorrow? I seriously need a tab ASAP and i dont want to wait if i dont have to.
it depends on how much you plan on using it me personally I got the 3g one since I like having internet everywhere I go without worrying about wifi
Just buy the regular one from best buy for full retail and then return it when wifi comes out. I believe you have 14 days return. Double check before you buy so you can't cuss me out ;-)

lol i wouldnt cuss you out either way, if i buy it that my conscious choice! but back to my question, will they HAVE it sunday?

yes its 14 days, but they charge a restocking fee in the neighborhood of $50-$70.
The WiFi comes out in 5 days, just wait and save yourself $200... Just call your local store and ask, they should be on sale on the 27th. If not, you can pre-order on amazon and you should have it by monday if not Saturday (they sometimes ship it 1 day early to ensure you get it in time for launch).
ill call tomorrow and ask. like i said i need it ASAP, so no later than next monday 3/28.

They are supposedly on sale on the 27th everywhere, I dont see why one of the many retailers selling it wouldn't have one available.

I wouldn't mind paying the monthly fee. It is the added $200 bucks premium I dont have the stomach for. If it was $599 for 3G, I'll pick one up and do month to month non-contract. Works for me.
I got mine with the 2yr contract. One thing to think about is you can get the 1gb/m plan and upgrade/downgrade at anytime. so 20bucks per month , net anywhere, 200 bucks off the $800 price tag. worth it to me. extra 10 bucks gets you the protection plan incase you break it.
i opt for 3G model.
With the iPad I can see not having the need of 3G and WIFI version is perfectly fine. But with Xoom, I am really debating. The whole benefit of Honeycomb is the widget functionality. A lot of the widget relies on having internet to update (i.e.: news, weather, etc.,). So not having 3G, that really going to hamp down the true experience of XOOM isn't it?
But then again, paying the premium of $200.00 just to have the 3G benefit sucks...*sigh*...decision decision.

I think its just like any phone contract, you can upgrade/downgrade your minutes/texts/data etc. at any time to apply to the next month.
I bought the 3G/LTE (upgradable) version, but I bought it off contract. Verizons data plans are a joke, $20 for 1 GB of data, no unlimited option? That is insulting, considering that the LTE could chew through that in a day. I hate the way the wireless ISP data plans are going. Looking a my sprint bills I use around 10 GB per month.
I just use my EVO 4g and tether it to my Xoom, my Xoom is in airplane mode all the time, which saves on the battery. Also on a side note, one overlooked feature new to honeycomb ( I think its new, my evo with can't do it) you can use bluetooth while in airplane mode without having to toggle airplane mode. Nice touch none of the reviewers mention.

Heck I blow 1GB on my FIOS in an hour...haahah
I blew mine on day 2 cuz i used wifi on day 1. Then i cancel on day 2. When the bill came home, they dont say how much i owed them. So i took it to verizon store, they said i had 3 bucks of data left Funny thing is, I was using the minimum amount compare to how much i use on my nexus.

I was just checking up on Engadget and saw this article. Hope this was the small push you needed to get a G2
The cheapest before was $50 with contract but now it's Free!

Doesnt apply if you have a no contract plan (The extra line that is)
I had been using a myTouch Slide that was given to me way back in April...so my G1 contract obviously ran out a few months ago. The second I saw this promotion, I jumped on it. Couldn't be more stoked.
Just ordered one of these so expect me to start patrolling these forums in the next few day.( I'm not a noob though)

Please be aware that getting yourself into a contract causes you to end up with a service plan far in excess of your actual use, and NO OPTION TO CHANGE IT FOR THE DURATION. The result of this is that you end up spending THOUSANDS extra over the term of the contract than you would by just paying up full price for the phone in the beginning.
DON'T BE STUPID!!!! CONTRACTS ARE THE RAPE AND TORTURE OF PUPPIES!

How is it spending "thousands" more, if you already have a plan with the $20 preferred android plan for your existing phone?
If you change nothing on your plan when you take the free upgrade, in essence, the phone *IS* free, you just agree to keep service for 24 months, and if you hate the phone and or said service after 30 days, CANCEL, pay the $250 ETF and sell the phone and recoup your losses. I don't see how "Thousands" of extra dollars come into effect here when most people already have a plan they like with the $20 preferred data plan. I know my grandfathered plan with all the free features is much cheaper than ANYTHING a EM+ can EVER offer me.

Yes, wifi eats out of your bucket unless you have the free grandfathered [email protected] UMA plan on your line, then all wifi calls are free. If you have a EM/EM+ plan you can't get that feature added. Old plans still have a 50/50 shot of having a loyalty rep add the SOC.
Ok. Rep didn't know what she was talking about.

Woot recently switched from the nexus s back to g2 and I love it. Saved me $50! Now I save another $150? Man this is awesome! Time to spend the savings on accessories ie dock and larger batt.
Jumped on this when I got to work this morning. Upgrade was 50 bucks, but comes with 50 dollar mail in rebate. Signed new 2 year, but didn't change my plan from my original G1 plan + some discounts I have had.
I've been running Gingerbread on my HD2 but this free G2 has me interested. I've been lurking on the G2 forums trying to figure out the current state of G2 developement. Still not decided if I want to pull the trigger or not. I really love the form factor of my HD2.
just bit the bullet and got one. have a n1 with a g1 plan for a year now and didnt have to change my plan but i did anyway casue i want the 4G's. only a extra $5/mo for it. yes, extra 2 years but they are cheaper then the rest of the carriers, and i dont want to pay $500 for a phone again (got my n1 off cl for that price w/xtra battery). rather buy a HD projector. coming from legacy myfav5 300 anytime minute plan with android data/messaging unlimited plan to the Unlimited 4G for $20/mo and 1500 anytime and unlimited text for $60/mo. and no extra premium data charges. go magenta!

Um, you know that the G1 plan included HSPA+ and you are paying $5 extra for nothing, right?
Just to let yall know, if you are renewing your 2 year contract then you still have to pay $50 up front, you get back the $50 with a $50 mail in rebate which in time, makes it free. Oh and this offer is on the web only, not in stores.
I was going to get my G2 this weekend at the store because Friday is my payday but the offer ends on the 20th so I think I'll bite the bullet and order it tonight online and hope to receive it by Friday.

I bought my Tab from Best Buy on Thursday for $499. I just saw that Costco offers it for $399, but you pay a $35 activation and get a $30 rebate. You pay $20 for one month of VZW service and no cancellation fee. My job offers a no activation fee on VZW, so that would be waived...So, i'd get the Tab for around $453 verses $533.
I think the VZW version may have the black back, mine is white, but oh well for the savings... Thoughts?
Is your first tab vzw? If not I wouldn't do it. The vzw tabs are gimped so no chance of phone our bluetooth keyboard. The Att / tmo (gsm) tab is most customizable. If you have that I'd keep it. If you already have vzw then hey 80 bucks...woohoo.

You also need to figure what your time is worth.
1. Wipe current Tab and box it up.
2. Drive to Best Buy, stand in line while a bunch of morons ( I mean geeks) check it out before you get your refund. Then they will most likely tell you they are sending a check, or the credit will appear on your card in 2-3 days.
3. Go to Costco and buy the new one...
4. Then set it all up again.
Doesnt seem worth $80 to me...

First, I hope you are not in the estimating business (for your own sake). Because I dont see how you can do the things I listed in an hour.
I just restored my Tab yesterday, and even using Titanium Backup it took me an hour.
And no, the time and effort this will take is not worth $80 to me.
My best buy had the Vzw selling for your costco price of 399.00 when I bought my Sprint version. I think that was Friday. My Sprint price was 299.00 with 2yr which I took only because work pays the phone bill.
If I was paying for the bill I would have gone vzw up front and dropped the plan.
You should check to see if your best buy will price match costco if you show them your card. I think they will price match a local competitor without an ad if they can verify the price over the phone.
You should do all that before you mention that to have a sprint tab to return just so they. In this scenario you do it all in one store.

I also hope you aren't in the comparative business (for your sake). Just because it took you over an hour to restore your Tab doesn't mean it'll take me that long. I just bought this thing last week and have not been sure I want to keep it, so all I have on it are things I am trying, so data wipe wouldn't mean shish to me. So to do all you mentioned would actually take me less than an hour. Wipe, drive 2 miles, return, drive 50 yrds, purchase...DONE! Score $80.

I guess we all value our time differently. When I am billing a client, its for $275-$450 an hour... So I would consider any of this effort a huge waste of time.
But I wish you the best.
With all the cheaper tablets out now or in the near future, is anyone going to be "brave" (using a nice word) enough to buy the $800 3G Xoom anymore?
I am trying to sell my 3G Xoom (barely used) for $625 on Craigslist and I don't even get any real offer for about 1 week (except for people who wants to trade it for tatoos work).
That is a lot of savings for an almost 2 month old tablet when you take into account of not having to pay taxes.

I sold mine and got the playbook and am very pleased.
I couldnt even sell my Xoom for 625.. Sold for 600$ . When I listed my iPad 2 only 40$- retail it sold by the next day.. Xoom for a week couldnt sell for 200$- retail without me having to deal with shipping. Basically also when you buy the Xoom current 800$ price point model the price drops 1/4 immediately.
So if you buy it at say Best Buy and have 14 days remember after this your 820$+ device is really worth 6-650$
I guess im lucky i sold mine for 650 on craigslist and same as you i bought a playbook.
The playbooks screen is just amazing!
If it were a wifi only Xoom maybe, but since it's a 3g Xoom I find it pretty stupid to purchase when you can get a wifi only one for the same price. I mean sure, you can get a plan but why get a plan for something that your smartphone could tether its current plan to?

But I think that is the point/problem...
If someone doesn't need/want the VZW data plan, then they don't need to spend the extra $$ on the VZW Xoom with 3G (4g upgradeable).
So if you're selling a used VZW 3G Xoom, its a tough sale when a "NEW In Box" Wifi Only Xoom can be had for $539.99 to $599.99.
Also consider the "NIB" Xoom would have a store return policy, and the warranty wouldn't have started weeks (or possibly two months per the OP) ago.
Id wait till motorola upgrades the radio so you can say its 4g capable since its free n ur waiting till june to spend the money on another tablet if it was just wifi only id sell it now but im sure some people wud like to be able to put there thunderbolt 4g unlimited data sims card in the tablet
it be a faster sell once its got its 4g radio
Lol, how many things in the world have cheaper version?
If you want a ferrari do you buy a fiat cause it still has all the wheels and an engine just lik the ferrari?
Yes, people are still buying the 3G XOOM, I paid £580GBP for mine and it was well worth it.
The Acer should be half the price, it's an entry level company.
Some people feel that using a phone as a wifi hotspot/tether just eats up the phone battery much quicker and so it's not that useful if you plan on surfing the net with the Wifi Xoom for long periods of time.
I ditched my smartphone and now pay less for the same amount of data I was using. My dumbphone is still a better phone than the smartphones I've had.

I mean this phone is just beyond words awesome and I am dragging my feet to leave tmobile cause of it. But with all these new phones coming out and dual core phones I am just wondering if someone could give me some suggestions for another phone this open and easy to flash and hack.

There is no phone like the HD2, and so far I'm not incredibly impressed by the dual-core phones. The sensation is laggy, the SGS2 is ugly and I don't need 1080p recording on a freaking phone.
I'm holding out for quad-core devices or the iPhone 5, unless I just get sporadic and pick up a new device just cuz.
I would just wait till AT&T-Mobile releases a phone that gets both ATT and T-Mobile 3G so you have awesome coverage, no phone right now can do that besides the Vibrant.
I don't know that there are any phones like the HD2 out there, but I am in the same boat as you and can offer a suggestion.
Stick with T-Mobile a little longer but don't lock into a contract. The AT&T deal might not even go through, and even if it does, you wont see any affects of it for several years.
T-Mobile has a new "Value Plan" where if you buy a phone out-right, you don't have to sign a contract and the monthly rate is a lot cheaper ($20 less per month) than if you subsidize it and lock into a 2 year contract. You can switch to this and continue to ride the HD2 wagon, or buy a new device - In which case, if you dont want to pay the full price of the phone up front, they offer a payment plan, where you pay part up front, then $15/month for 20 months. So compare that to the 2-year contract plan and you're saving $5 a month for 20 months, then $20 a month for the last 4 (and beyond). If you decide you want to leave prior to the 20th month, you just pay off the remaining ballance on the phone and you're free to sign elsewhere.

You lost me towards the end there mate, all I know is that tmob keeps bugging the **** out of me to reup and that sure as hell ain't going to happen anytime soon. My plan is still good and stuff I only pay I think 70 a month of unlimited everything.

What he's saying is the "no contract" plans are $20 cheaper than the contracted ones.
The 500 minutes/unlimited data is $80 a month if you're on a contract. The same plan is $60 a month if on the "no contract" plan.

^ What he said. Just go to a t-mob store. They'll explain it better. Hard to explain in a post.
I got it the second time, thanks. True 60 is nice but dropping the 15 more for unlimited mins text and data doesn't seem so bad...still don't see how unlimited can mean 5 gigs, but then I don't work marketing.
Mostly I was just hoping to find the next phone to jump to for a boost in specs but still having the total freedom this phone gives. I mean I can reflash any rom I want to test and then just throw out a restore if I don't like it. There isn't anything this phone hasn't been able to do for me. I am looking and starting to think no one will ever make a phone this good again.

The sensation is kinda like that now, you might give that a shot.
So I called T-Mobile and got approved for an early upgrade since i've been a customer since 2004.
The only thing is I found out they no longer bill in a 3 month cycle but make you pay upfront for the phone.
I'm looking at the Galaxy S2 and I don't have $300 upfront to pay for the damn thing.

You might as well just say screw T-Mobile and buy one off eBay for $150-$200 more lol.
Thats what i've said..
Only good thing about getting it through T-Mobile is the warranty.
They should retain that billing feature for good customers...I've been with them since 2004.... am I really going to bail on them over a phone? Stupid...
Literally paying 300 is almost 3/4 of my paycheck... I mean yea right... I'm not right. I'll just use my Galaxy S... Thing works fine anyways.
Or you can get one off craigslist for 300 with no contract like I did.

I agree. The payment thing was great for them. It made people MORE likely to jump into a new phone and extend their contract. Pretty stupid business decision on their part.
But they've been going downhill for a while.
I'm thinking that its about time for this business model to die anyway. I hate being tied to a carrier, and I want a phone that actually gets upgrades.
The only thing that made the 2 yr. upgrade worth it was the fact that the phone was automatically cut in half. $600 retail, down to $250. They simply early upgraded me for being a customer since 2004... so cool..
But what I don't have is $300 to spare on a phone... or if I decide I don't want to be tied to a carrier (which doesn't matter because I can't use a T-Mobile phone or Verizon or on ATT 3g band)
I thought it was very convenient to go into the store, have to pay around $80 upfront, then have the remaining balance split up over a 3 month period... so people who don't have excess money to spend that often can go ahead and get an upgrade every so often..
In either case, this has just made me double think, and I will keep my Vibrant probably for another year or two now. Nothing wrong with it, could use better battery life though.
I am going to wait for if and when GS2 will show up for free with an eligible upgrade on Amazon or Wirefly. Get the 1800 mah epic touch battery for the time being if you are concerned about battery life.
So save $100 each month and after 3 months you can pay up front for it? I don't see what the big deal is.

Craigslist has SGSIIs for $300?
You must live in a nice place.
In my area I see them for about $350-500. So yes, they are going for around $300 on craigs.
Any any case, what does the price of this phone have to do with the topix of tmobile no longer billing monthly for phone upgrades?

OP was complaining about them not splitting the price of the phone up and I mentioned that for 300 he could get an sgs2 off contract. Dude you quoted was just surprised you could find them that cheap I guess.

I have a business account and whenever I purchase a phone they just add it to my bill. I don't have to pay upfront.

I made the same decision except I might go for the sgs3. I bought the 1800 mah Anker battery on Amazon (sorry, my links are still disabled) and I'm really happy with it. I get about 20 hours moderate use running ics passion v12 at 1000 MHz on conservative.

20hours? Hmm I get like 2 days if I really stretch it. I also don't use my phone excessively or for games often.

Trying to get your post count up?
Would be nice if they brought back the 3 month billing split for New equipment. It made it nice and easy to split it across three billing cycles...

Yes!
LOL!!
Back to the OP, I'm annoyed that TMo didn't offer the SGS2 to me for $100. They were running a special on "new customers" only, but wanted to charge me $349 to "upgrade" my line. I've been with them for over 6 years and 5 lines on the account.
Goes to show how they take care of their existing customers. Glad I didn't upgrade my contract as I'm thinking of going to Verizon and getting the Galaxy Nexus as soon as one of my other line's contract is up.
