Is anyone even buying the $800 3G Xoom anymore? - Xoom General

With all the cheaper tablets out now or in the near future, is anyone going to be "brave" (using a nice word) enough to buy the $800 3G Xoom anymore?
I am trying to sell my 3G Xoom (barely used) for $625 on Craigslist and I don't even get any real offer for about 1 week (except for people who wants to trade it for tatoos work).
That is a lot of savings for an almost 2 month old tablet when you take into account of not having to pay taxes.

I sold mine and got the playbook and am very pleased.
I couldnt even sell my Xoom for 625.. Sold for 600$ . When I listed my iPad 2 only 40$- retail it sold by the next day.. Xoom for a week couldnt sell for 200$- retail without me having to deal with shipping. Basically also when you buy the Xoom current 800$ price point model the price drops 1/4 immediately.
So if you buy it at say Best Buy and have 14 days remember after this your 820$+ device is really worth 6-650$

I guess im lucky i sold mine for 650 on craigslist and same as you i bought a playbook.
The playbooks screen is just amazing!

If it were a wifi only Xoom maybe, but since it's a 3g Xoom I find it pretty stupid to purchase when you can get a wifi only one for the same price. I mean sure, you can get a plan but why get a plan for something that your smartphone could tether its current plan to?
Sent from my Xoom

Why do you need a plan? The 3G that I am selling does not need any plan.
Also, I currently have the ipad, the T-mobile Galaxy Tab, the 3G Xoom, and I bought the 64 GB Playbook on opening day.
I love the Playbook so much that I have neglected to use the other 3 tablets.
I need to sell my 3G Xoom to buy the 8.9" Samsung tab in June. I have too many toys now.

But I think that is the point/problem...
If someone doesn't need/want the VZW data plan, then they don't need to spend the extra $$ on the VZW Xoom with 3G (4g upgradeable).
So if you're selling a used VZW 3G Xoom, its a tough sale when a "NEW In Box" Wifi Only Xoom can be had for $539.99 to $599.99.
Also consider the "NIB" Xoom would have a store return policy, and the warranty wouldn't have started weeks (or possibly two months per the OP) ago.

Id wait till motorola upgrades the radio so you can say its 4g capable since its free n ur waiting till june to spend the money on another tablet if it was just wifi only id sell it now but im sure some people wud like to be able to put there thunderbolt 4g unlimited data sims card in the tablet
it be a faster sell once its got its 4g radio

Lol, how many things in the world have cheaper version?
If you want a ferrari do you buy a fiat cause it still has all the wheels and an engine just lik the ferrari?
Yes, people are still buying the 3G XOOM, I paid £580GBP for mine and it was well worth it.
The Acer should be half the price, it's an entry level company.

Some people feel that using a phone as a wifi hotspot/tether just eats up the phone battery much quicker and so it's not that useful if you plan on surfing the net with the Wifi Xoom for long periods of time.

I ditched my smartphone and now pay less for the same amount of data I was using. My dumbphone is still a better phone than the smartphones I've had.

most places I goto that I would be on wifi for a long time either have wifi, or a place for me to charge my phone while tethered

Well unfortunately some countries don't have the luxury of having many public wifi hotspots.

You made a good point. I will just hold onto the $625 price point until I fully upgrade to 4G and see if it will sell better. I will feel better if I use it more often before I sell so that I can get my money's worth.

tethering is just fine here - Nexus One + Xoom.
Heard about charging your phone via your Xoom using a micro-usb to micro-usb cable ... need to buy one and try it out myself cuz the Xoom battery is just awesome.

Went with a dumb phone and 3/4g xoom, and paying less for data too. Use wifi at home and work and 3g when I'm out and about. Luv my 3g tab

I bought 3g specifically so that I can get a plan. Hoewever, I'm personally waiting for 4g upgrade before getting a plan. And people do still buy it, the ones who travel alot.

Xoom Purchase Questions

I am going to buy a Xoom, just wanted to start with that, now I was just curious about a few of the details.
So it is my birthday and my parents have said that they will get me the WiFi Xoom on the 27th or, since my birthday is today, I can pay the $200 difference and get one today tomorrow. This is where my dilemma lies.
I see some benefits to owning a 3G/4G model, never know when you may need to get a data plan to use. However, I currently have a rooted android phone so I am able to tether the device instead. Then I read that some carriers may begin to crack down on unauthorized tethering in the near future.
So that makes me lean a bit towards getting a 3G model.
Problem is, I wasn't sure how the whole WiFi lockdown situation was. I though I heard that Wifi was not locked at best buy, but before that I thought that only verizon sold wifi without requiring a month of data.
Ok enough blathering on... here are my questions
1.) Does a 3G Xoom from Best Buy require a month of data plan
2.) Since we know VZW sells wifi unlocked, do they load any bloatware of any sort?
3.) Unrelated: How is battery life
4.) What would you recommend, pick up a 3G enabled Xoom for $200 or a free Wifi model in a week
EDIT: I have $100 in Best Buy gift cards so that make buying it cheaper

wait for xoom wifi.
3g/4g is not necessary if you have rooted android phone.
if you have money to burn, sure, get the 3g version. but imo, stick with wifi
See I wanted the possibility of 3G, so if I don't need a data plan from best buy that's great!

Buy the 3G/4G at Best Buy, but with no service. Pay month to month. You don't want a 2 year contract. so your will pay the full price
If you live in a 4g area I would do the 3g/4g. Lte is so great. I'm getting 20mbs download on my thunderbolt.
I was in the same delima I had purchased a zoom from bb off contract...after a whiile whipping out your phone everytime you want to connect got to be annoying also you then have to charge both because tethering does drain battery. Not to mention RSS feeds and stuff that downloads in the background. Want to check it fire off an email...with out your phone or set it up to tether.
Also if you don't have a 4g phone you are missing out on that. In the end you should decide your use case and base it off that. On contract if you get it go to Verizon because the 20 dollar a month plan at best buy will only save you 50 bucks on the phone.
The contract is $20 then? Is that a fixed rate and is that for 4G when I get the upgrade? And how much data do I get for 20
Sent from my HTC Incredible using Tapatalk
Yes minimum contract is 20 a month for one gig of data. 80 percent of the time I'm on wifi so it works for me. In order to get the full 200 off from best buy you need t have the 80 dollar a month plan which gives you 10 gigs.

If you tether form your phone you will not get 4G unless you upgrade your phone for $200. I would get the Xoom on contract and use the $200 you have saved to pay for the $20 data service. If you run low on the 1GB allowance you can always tether for the rest of the month. The money you save $200 + $200 pays for the data plan and you get 4G in the process.
This way if someone calls you, you will always be able to use the Xoom while talking, especially navigation which is very conservative on data and also caches local maps.
Also your resale value will be much higher. This is my opinion and I am sticking to it.
Ok from what I've heard I'm going to pick up a 3G Xoom off contract from verizon. Most of my places I use it have wifi and I could get a contract in the future. Thank you everyone.

I have to say after reading about the whole att warning iphone users about tethering I wouldn't be surprised to see carriers lock down on that. I don't know the technicl aspect with android and if there even is a way to tell, but even if they do if you have a verizon android device they sell the wireless hotspot for $20 extra and it comes with 2gb. However, if you go over the 2gb then you pay another $20 for 2 gb. The comparable 3g plan is $20 for 1 gb, but you get the convenience of having 3G (and soon 4g) on your tablet. I picked up the 3g/4g model and i am currently on the $50/5gb plan. I have used just over 3gb so i am more than likely going to drop down to the $35/3gb plan. For me it was no decision I definately wanted the 3g model as i really want the 4g upgrade and that to me was worth the extra $200. This tablet is going to be great with that option. One'other reason is the tablet has the option to share the 3g/4g with up to 5 devices so that is another good option. I thought of getting rid of my incredible and going back to a feature plan as it has just been sitting around, but I decided to order the thunderbolt instead as i can't be without a smartphone. Believe me I tried it this last week. I hope this helps, and this is only my opinion. I feel the 3g is worth it as 4g will be great on this tabket and i feel it will be awhile before there is a better spec'd android tablet on the table (quad core?) I went with the 1 year contract so it should work great and i know this tablet will stay relevant for at least a year. I am really enjoyimg it and i must say having 3g built in really makes the device better in my opinion as i save battery life on my phone. I will more than likely be tethering my thunderbolt to the Xoom for the next month as i want 4g and it is free (hotspot) until may so i might drop down to the $20/1gb plan. One other thing to think about is the wifi only Xoom might not have GPS built in. I haven't read anything about so hopefully I am wrong, and i really don't have any reason to look into it as i have the 3g one. The ipad wifi one only uses cell tower triangulation and isn't very accurate so you might want to look into that if you plan on using google maps with the Xoom. I think you are smart to stay away from the two year contract though as the 3g/4g is, in my opinion, the way to go, but I think this early in the game stay away from contracts at all cost unless the is an option for 1 year. I have it as i am an employee so it is a no brainer.
The battery I have been so surprised with. It has been great and i have yet to need a charger during the day (and I bring it everywhere with me). You should have no problem with the battery as i am getting a good 6-8 hours of heavy use out of it and still end up with 30-50 percent when i put in the charger. It has been the best part if this tablet so far as i have always struggled with battery life on android products. I don't even have to remember to turn off wifi and gps. Seriously the battery life will be a non issue take my word for it.
Good luck with your decision I hope this all helps.
Well I got the 3G Xoom without a contract.
I love it!
Thank you all

1) I bought mine at best buy. Did not get a plan. It worked great on wifi right when i went home. However I soon got in situation where I wanted internet to use my Xoom and there was none. So two weeks in a broke down and got a plan. Since I have verizon I added the line on my account from the comfort of my home using verizons online website. Just make sure you save the sticker that comes with yoru Xoom. It has a bunch of numbers on it. Because when registering it will ask for these numbers. After 15 minutes i just clicked activate on my Xoom and boom, i now had 3g, no verizon phone call or store needed.
2) They sell the Xoom HW the same no matter where purchase it from. Well unless its a shady vendor that is. If the box says Motorola Zoom, don't get it, unless you want a nook with honeycomb
3) battery is grand
4) I got the 3g, i thought i would regret it at first, but as I said, i saw the need for it pretty soon and I'm very happy with my decision.
I got the 3/4G version at the steal price but as long as I have my company paying for unlimited data with my iPhone I won't need the data plan for the Xoom itself. I don't tether a lot but I'm afraid that AT&T will complain if I did.

Help Deciding, WiFi or 3G model...

so im in bit of dilema... I had a iPad (yay its gone) and i want to buy a Xoom. I frequently used my iPad for school but now that i dont have it im realizing how much i really needed it @[email protected]
So my problem, will stores (bestbuy in particular) have the Xoom on Sunday (3/27)? Or should i just buy the normal one tomorrow? I seriously need a tab ASAP and i dont want to wait if i dont have to.
it depends on how much you plan on using it me personally I got the 3g one since I like having internet everywhere I go without worrying about wifi
Just buy the regular one from best buy for full retail and then return it when wifi comes out. I believe you have 14 days return. Double check before you buy so you can't cuss me out ;-)

yes its 14 days, but they charge a restocking fee in the neighborhood of $50-$70.
The WiFi comes out in 5 days, just wait and save yourself $200... Just call your local store and ask, they should be on sale on the 27th. If not, you can pre-order on amazon and you should have it by monday if not Saturday (they sometimes ship it 1 day early to ensure you get it in time for launch).
ill call tomorrow and ask. like i said i need it ASAP, so no later than next monday 3/28.

I wouldn't mind paying the monthly fee. It is the added $200 bucks premium I dont have the stomach for. If it was $599 for 3G, I'll pick one up and do month to month non-contract. Works for me.
I got mine with the 2yr contract. One thing to think about is you can get the 1gb/m plan and upgrade/downgrade at anytime. so 20bucks per month , net anywhere, 200 bucks off the $800 price tag. worth it to me. extra 10 bucks gets you the protection plan incase you break it.
i opt for 3G model.
With the iPad I can see not having the need of 3G and WIFI version is perfectly fine. But with Xoom, I am really debating. The whole benefit of Honeycomb is the widget functionality. A lot of the widget relies on having internet to update (i.e.: news, weather, etc.,). So not having 3G, that really going to hamp down the true experience of XOOM isn't it?
But then again, paying the premium of $200.00 just to have the 3G benefit sucks...*sigh*...decision decision.

I think its just like any phone contract, you can upgrade/downgrade your minutes/texts/data etc. at any time to apply to the next month.
I bought the 3G/LTE (upgradable) version, but I bought it off contract. Verizons data plans are a joke, $20 for 1 GB of data, no unlimited option? That is insulting, considering that the LTE could chew through that in a day. I hate the way the wireless ISP data plans are going. Looking a my sprint bills I use around 10 GB per month.
I just use my EVO 4g and tether it to my Xoom, my Xoom is in airplane mode all the time, which saves on the battery. Also on a side note, one overlooked feature new to honeycomb ( I think its new, my evo with can't do it) you can use bluetooth while in airplane mode without having to toggle airplane mode. Nice touch none of the reviewers mention.

Heck I blow 1GB on my FIOS in an hour...haahah
I blew mine on day 2 cuz i used wifi on day 1. Then i cancel on day 2. When the bill came home, they dont say how much i owed them. So i took it to verizon store, they said i had 3 bucks of data left Funny thing is, I was using the minimum amount compare to how much i use on my nexus.

Transformer 3G model announced.

Pretty sneaky of Asus to do this. Release a Wifi version only to announce a 3G model less than 2 months later... Not sure if I will be one to return my Wifi TF, but I'll definitely consider it.

There was always going to be a 3g version, they just said that it would follow in the months after launch.
I feel lucky that my wife stopped me buying the wifi version last night.

+1.. U.S. carriers are probably going to charge you crap loads just to have a plan with them too.
T-Mobile has dropped the price of its G-Slate tablet to $399.99 with 2 years contract but with 200 mail in rebate. The LG G-Slate was one of the first tablets to run Honeycomb when it came out, and looked like a true competitor to the iPad with a brilliant 8.9” display panel with native resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels, 1GHz dual-core processor, Android 3.0, full HD 1080p video recording capability, 9 hours of promised battery life and these all encased in only 620gms.

Tethering is nice and all. But if you only have a 200MB data plan for your phone, it's not really an option. Browsing a desktop version of a website is already a few MBs. I don't think the 3G version will cost that much more, max (my guess) is $100 with no contract.

Well most people complain whenever wifi only models of tablets don't come out. Asus just gave its customers what we wanted. An inexpensive, quality tablet.

Sounds good for those that want 3G. I prefer a Wifi only version. Like others I can use my phone Wifi hotspot, and I have sprint unlimited 4 g.
Also, Asus did the right move by shipping a Wifi only version first. That gave Asus a low price point which brought them in under the competition, especially the iPad. Motorola lost a lot of sales by bring out a 3G Xoom which was perceived as considerably more expensive.

The premium involved with 3G model is not worth it. Not to mention an extra data plan just for the tablet. Tether ftw! Seriously though I don't think most need internet on their tablet all the time. For stuff like email jist use your phone.

No telling. Our carriers ruin everything. Could take six months. Mine is on the way to Texas!!
U.S. looks like it's coming to AT&T, according to FCC documents
According to FCC documents filed, it appears Samsung has at least applied for approval for AT&T ... http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-galaxy-note-headed-to-usa-on-att-says-fcc-30184411/
My hope is it will be here 1st or 2nd quarter of next year with AT&T, since that's who our family plan is with.
Has anyone heard any updates to this, since that was back on September 30th.
I have a 2 year old iPhone 3GS that I would love to replace with this.
All the best !!!

How to tell when a Samsung phone will be coming out in the US:
Start with the European launch date and add the number of days you can reasonable wait for a launch. Add 6-8 months and they might be ready to release it.
So it sounds more reasonable to expect a 2nd quarter U.S. launch since it was announced in September in Europe. I sure hope it's sooner though. It clearly blows away every device I've ever had, including the hyped-up iPhone !!!
I'm going to try and wait till May at the latest, since the warranty on my iPhone 4 is up on June. I hate not being protected...So I'll get the Note from the UK if it's not released by then, then just get a square trade warranty on it.
Unless it is an "iphone" don't expect any release from at&t within 6 months of it being released to the rest of the world. AT&T sucks at releasing non iJunk.
Walk into one with a blank stare, tell them you are looking for a smart phone and
I'd bet you 100 bucks they will START with the iJunk.
When the SGS2 was FINALLY released, I walked into a corporate store to look at
one, and the sales drone said "I think we have one, but I don't care for android, I like the iPhone". Well, when you have sales people who think like that, what do you expect them to push you into? Plus, when AT&T sold their souls to get the iPhone, you can bet there was some under the table deal that keeps something that would stomp the iPhone into dust. And you can bet there is probably more profit on iJunk/accessories than any other phone.
I quit buying on contract with at&t last year with the Streak. It's expensive as hell to buy one out right, but, over the long run, you come out ahead. Plus, I'm still on the unlimited data...as long as I'm a good boy, or until at&t changes their mind again.
Thanks guys, but you bumped my 13 day old thread...

Not True.
That's only true if the ETF($325 smart phone's) plus the contract price is higher then the retail price.
For the iPhone....The Retail price for the 4S 16GB is $650. So you are going to pay $200 on contract, and say you cancel the next month....that's a total of $525. Even if you include a $100 bill for the first month, that's still cheaper then buying a off-contract iPhone 4S!
It would make some sense if you got a lower monthly plan for not being on a contract, but fat chance on that. Instead, it's better to just buy on contract and let your potential ETF decrease by $10/month. When you want to leave ATT or get another phone, just sell it and buy another, you will be better off. The ETF is just there because the carrier is paying for a good portion of the phone for you.
This is still true for most Dumb Phones that are Free on contract. They can run $200 retail, and the ETF is $175..it's still cheaper to go with the contract, once again your monthly fee is the same, and the ETF decreases after each month on the network.
Now. I'm off contract on my iPhone 4. But that's because I get a cheaper monthly rate by being off contract. I use a iPad data only SIM in my iphone, which is the $30 Unlimited deal. The ETF after 16 months was $175...which is the cost for less then 3 months of service. I would be paying the Unlimited data sim anyway just to keep it...So this way I save a ton of cash.
Now if ATT get the Note...that's a $800 device! If ATT only asked $400 on contract that would still be quite the deal, as the Contract price plus the ETF would be $725...still cheaper then the unlocked retail version! And since ATT is what I would be using here in the US anyway, it really makes no sense for me to get the unlocked version. Now...if the Locked version does not have LTE, and does not work with my iPad SIM as my iPhone does, I may just bite the bullet and get the Internationale version anyway, that way I can go on using my data only device.(I use google voice for text and talkatone for voice, android has a Voip gmail google voice client as well)

Where would be the best and cheapest place to get a Note?
Has anyone ever used ... electroprise.com on Manhattan before? ... http://electroprise.com/samsung-galaxy-note-gt-n7000-gsm-hsdpa-quadband-unlocked-p-2911.html. I'm up for an upgrade, with AT&T, anyways and they say they have a Note for $399, with a plan, which seems pretty good (cost varies with the type of plan).
If I sell my iPhone 3GS for $150-200 then it's only about $200-250 extra for the phone. Has anyone heard of a great place(s) or offer(s) for the Note, with a plan (since I need to extend my plan anyways)?
I'm going to call electroprise.com today and see what the real deal is ... it seems too good to be true. FYI, my current intention is to wait until the Note comes to AT&T and get it for $200 possibly (it may be $400 anyways !!!), but I would have to wait 6 months, which is a total bummer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ... all the best !!!

WOW this seems too good to be true LOL. $600 off contract? $400 on contract? This phone is not even offered for a contract on any US carrier. Not sure about this one...
I just read this on androidcentral.com (2011-11-06)
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note/131663-where-buy-galaxy-note-us.html ...
"Re: Where to buy Galaxy Note for US?
You can't get the Note from a US carrier yet. You will need to order international. Many have ordered from Handtec () without issue. They are currently shipping their second batch out. They have a choice of unlocked with no network logo or for slightly less, unlocked with a network logo on boot.
You can also order from Amazon Germany or clove.co.uk
You won't be able to take advantage of the 3g or 4g network on T-Mobile with the International version of the note. It does not have the antenna and chipset for the lower frequencies used on the higher speed network. You will only get voice and 2g speed out side of Wi-Fi. The Korean version of the Note with LTE is being released very soon and will be using the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset (like the Galaxy S2 on T-Mobile). This will likely be compatible with T-Mobile's higher speed network.
The International Note can be used with ATT HSDPA network without issue and at full speed. Some are using the unlimited pay as you go, non-smartphone plan (I think it is called gophone) with the note. I believe it is ~$50/month. Since ATT can only check the IMEI number on units it sells, you should be able to use an unlocked, international Note with this plan without having ATT change your plan to a more expensive "smartphone", limited plan.
-Alex-"
"I also found out from Wikipedia that AT&T has the following frequencies ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT&T_Mobility ... does everyone agree with these?
Radio Frequency Summary
The following is a list of known frequencies which AT&T employs in the United States:
Frequency Protocol Class
Frequencies used on the AT&T Network 850 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE 2G
1900 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE 2G
850 MHz UMTS/HSPA 3G
1900 MHz UMTS/HSPA 3G
700 MHz LTE 4G"
That means AT&T should match up well with Note's frequencies ...
HSPA+ up to 21Mbps 850/900/1900/2100
4G LTE
EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900
This is just my two cent worth ... maybe I should wait for the 4G phone ... aaarrggg !!! Like I said before, any help would be appreciated.

Yeah I saw the light XD. After experiencing what the Android can do(flash, bigger screen, better customization with ROMS and kernals, etc) I don't think I can go back to an iPhone. I've been loyal to having an iPhone since the first generation, the 4s is what threw me off the ship. Now I'm thinking about picking up a Note I thinking of picking it up from this guy http://www.ebay.com/itm/140636202852?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Exchange my Galaxy for an unopened one and resell it for $450, so minus that from $750 the phone will cost me around $300.
I'm not so sure about the website you posted, I haven't seen the Galaxy Note for less than $730. But what you can do is use your upgrade to buy an iPhone 4s 16gb for $200, resell for $650, sell your iPhone 3gs for maybe $150. I see someone did something similar here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1338821

WTF are you smoking that this plan makes any sense? The note is not an $800 phone, it is a $700 phone that would cost ATT much less than that (550-600) in wholesale price. So you think you are "getting a deal" when you are just getting screwed like everyone else who goes on a contract.

Amazon - Do you agree with the financials on this?
Does this make sense ...
• I'm due for an upgrade with AT&T, so I can buy a sealed, brand new, iPhone 4S 16GB for $200 and sell it for $500-650, based on eBay research ... for a profit of $300-450.
• It looks like I can sell my 2 year old 3GS, for $100-250
• Amazon has the Note for $769.95 ... http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Unlocked-Android-Smartphone/dp/B0061YRDX6
Therefore, I should be able to make $400-700 selling the two iPhones, then buy the Note from Amazon for $769.95. So it would cost me $70-370 total for the Note. Do you all agree with this logic, or am I missing something?
Also, does anyone know how to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich on the Note yet ... is there a good forum link on "how to"? I've never had an Android before, so this is all new to me ... sorry for my ignorance.
Thanks for any help on this.

Why buy sg3 for full price?

I am from Canada and I'm with bell. I see all this people ordering phones for the price of 680$ and i can't help to ask myself if all those ppl are not on any contract. Because if you are in a 2 or 3 year contract you'll pay 200$ for the phone....So. If you are in a contract and are ordering the s3 please post your reasons please.
One of the reasons can very well be that there is a good flow of money and allows to get phones every year

Yep.. I hear ya. I just recently ran my contact out. Bought my GS2 for full price and didn't resign. Now I'm buying the GS3 with no contract. (I was considering switching to Verizon.. that's why I ran my contract out) but now I'm gonna stick around for a little bit. Oh and I happen to have the money right now, and you only live once so I'm going for it!
Though.. it wasn't easy telling my gf how much I paid

You can try getting your current contract phone unlocked, sell it, then buy the sg3 (or a newer phone in general) to replace it.
In general contracts are more expensive than their prepaid alternatives (that's the point of having them). They also ensure that you're locked-in. This is why getting something that does not have you extend your contract is preferable. At the end of the day, however, the only way to tell if it's worth it is to do the math and determine whether that's a price you're willing to pay for a $400 discount.
Youhit it right on the head.....a good flow of money allows me to buy 2 to 3 phones a year. so i bought the Note Lte, then im getting the international SGSIII, i will then switch back to LTE when the Note 2 comes out later this year I hope.

Yeah that should be easier to sell. The international versions just hold more value.

I'm in the UK on giffgaff. The network gives you payback for referrals and community help. It's paying me a fair bit this way, more than enough to cover the cost of the phone and topups
In Austria there are some really cheap bargain-contracts where you pay ~10€ per month for EVERYTHING (1gb, 1000 texts, 1000 minutes). These contracts also don't come with the obligation to stay at the network-provider for 24 months or so. The only thing: With these contracts you don't get an expensive phone cheaper, you need to buy it for the full price on the market.
But all in all you're on the cheaper side with these bargain contracts than with the normal contracts, because with normal contracts you pay about 20 to 50€ for the same service! If you calculate for 24 months, it's actually a bit cheaper when you buy the phone on the market for full price. With the advantage that you don't have any obligation to stay at this provider.
I'm in the US under AT&T, my contract is up in June. The reasons I'm getting the Int. S3 are:
- Won't be released in the US until later in the Summer
- Won't have to extend my AT&T contract
- Retain my AT&T phone upgrade discount (in case any come out I want)
- US version will be inferior to the Int. in many ways IMO (other than LTE)
- higher re-sale value
Those are the main reasons.
This is a re-post of something i posted up on another S3 thread:

meeh, i dont mind waiting, but some of us have more than 1 spare phone available. others dont. so in that case, i'm right there with ya.
but on the other hand, $10 AT&T medianet is a no-brainer for me.. I'll buy an iPhone or an AT&T HOX on AT&T upgrade/contract for $199 and sell it on XDA MP or Craigslist for $600. That's $400 profit. International SGS3 is $700, less the $400 for the sold AT&T HOX. That's $300 out of pocket for an international SGS3.
Then take AT&T's 3gb data plan of $30 per month, multiply that by 24 and I get $720. VERSUS AT&T's medianet unlimited data plan for $10 per month, multiply by 24 and I get $240.
$720 minus $240 is $480. Take $480 and apply that towards the $300 you have left on the SGS3 after i've sold my AT&T HOX. I'm still out on top $180 (unless i did my math wrong, which im prone to do often lol)
This is my rational for getting an international SGS3.

I'm on Sasktel. Sasktel chooses to shaft it's user base again and again.
What's different now? Oh yeah. COMPETITION! I can pop over to Rogers, Bell, Telus, Fido, Koodo...but that damn contract...that's the pain.
So, I figure when it comes out, I can buy either the bell OR sasktel version outright, slap it on Sasktel, and wait until next year to move.
I'm seriously debating the Expansys one though. If I pre-order a 16GB right now, it will be mine in no time at all.
That way...come September 2013, I can move, get a new phone for my wife for cheap (her needs aren't nearly the same as mine), get whatever latest greatest then, and turn around and sell my still amazing SGS3 for $400-$500 bucks, and my new contract didn't cost me a cent.
Because people don't want to be tied into contracts. In the UK 24 months seems the norm where as as few years ago 12 month contracts where widely available.
2 years is a long time, especially if the network you are on has poor signal and such. Most plans have poor amounts of data, but the likes of Three offer unlimited data for £34pm and free phone, however signal can be an issue on Three. And I myself have terrible speeds previously on Three.
So buying outright and then a sim only route does not tie you down, you can sell 12 months down the line and get half your money back if the phone value holds, it'll be worth more than say 2 years down the line. This method does work out more expensive but it's worth it if you keep updating all the time.
Im getting the international version because I think ATT is the devil reincarnated and I hear good things about T-Mobile but Im not sure I want to sign a 2year contract with them since Im already signed with Sprint. The only thing that makes me weary of pulling the trigger on the pre-order is I just ordered the Evo 4g LTE and my money is tied up with that and Im not sure if the US version is getting the 2gb of RAM like the Japanese version. Im just not sure wich I would rather have Quad Core Exynos or Duals core S4 with 2gb or Ram. Plus I plan on stepping up my international travel game this year and it would be nice to have a phone that I would be able to just pop a sim card in and no hassle.
Despite its poor software and being unlocked anyway im still keeping this current phone just for media playback.
I use it to play tunes from samba shares on a wifi harddrive between bands (i do sound) cuz its way more portable than a laptop but it means i cant really use the phone at all while im working. Bit of an oversight selling my previous one when i got this really.
