I tried to buy one of these months ago and gave up when it seemed they didn't exist. I am quite happy with my A43IT 16GB however. It did cost a bit more than its baby sister.
Bye.

yep, still have it. Just started noticing some looseness on the left side of the case though, so it might still go back.
In other news I sprung for a Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V. 3.2" display, 512MB RAM, only 512MB internal flash though with 160MB for applications but comes with a 2GB MICROSD card, capacitive screen, very bright, physical buttons, Qualcomm SoC(MSM7227) 600MHz ARM11, 400MHz modem processor, 400MHz applications DSP, and 300MHz Adreno 200 GPU. Pretty spiffy hardware and feels as fast as A32, but never will have flash. Also has GPS.
Not bad plans either, $25 for 300m, $40 for 20h, $60 unlimited all with unlimited data, web, and text. Runs on the Sprint network so coverage is awful out west and they don't support roaming at all, but it gets me an emergency phone with data and GPS as a bonus.
It's almost identical in size to the A32, but thicker slightly. Actually readable in sunlight too at not excessively high brightness. Useable as a small tablet without phone plan, just WiFi for data.
[EDIT]
3g is pretty slow for me, but at least I'm connecting. (I've read that they had 3g problems for the last month.) I only got 120kbps up/down yesterday which is pretty crappy... limited app storage is also kind of annoying, but I'm still using their stock fw since I've got 90d to return it(Target), if the service turns out to be lousy. Voice was fine here, but slow 3g... that was a big reason to pick one up for the cheap packages with unlimited 3g which they apparently throttle after hitting 10GB, but I've no idea how I'd ever hit 10GB at those speeds... it's like being on dialup again...
[/EDIT]

The Optimus V was something I had considered, but no flash plu no tethering killed that idea for me. I just bought another Gtab on the woot deal last week (bday gift for my son), so I'm holding off on another purchase for a little while.

Look on eBay or local listings.
Im in Shanghai and had my phone stolen from my bag (now im paranoid about where I put my phone).
I bought another hermes, used, with box and all, for 225$, that was over 6 months ago.
Bugga, my condolences....
Agree with alkizmo about ebay, in oz the jasjam seems to go for about $250aud which is better than the $900 or "sorry, we don't stock that anymore, wanna kaiser instead for $1400?".
Cheers...

iphone sux & is a ripoff fad...recent artical math:
Old iPhone: $399 (for 8GB of storage), plus $60 per month for 450 voice minutes and unlimited data. Two-year total (since you'll be signing a two-year deal for either handset): $1,839.
New iPhone: $199 (for 8GB of storage), plus $70 per month for a basic voice plan (presumably the same 450 minutes) and unlimited data. Two-year total: $1,879. http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/94465
$175 for a Tilt!!!!!! See, Australia is the Arse end of the world and they keep serving us crap....
Wouldn't want the Tilt though, Love my Hermes....
and its tough love for your hermes
Sorry to hear that man. I was out Sat night this past weekend and my phone just completely stopped booting. Took it in, tested the battery and all, but it was dead. Couldn't even get to a bootloader. I was out of the warranty, and still had 7 months left on the contract so I thought I was screwed, but AT&T let me just renew the contract and get a new phone. Wasn't dying to get a Tilt, but it's better than being stuck with a crap clamshell phone for 7 months....best of luck! If it's any consolation, I heard you can get software for the Kaiser phone that will send you a text with the GPS location of the phone if a different SIM card is inserted. God forbid the phone gets stolen, but imagine the joy when you get to call the cops with the coordinates of your phone (hopefully in the pocket of the thief).

Yea but i need a phone now and i loved my hermes!

will lack of memory card support stop you buying?

I had very high expectation to buy it until I realize NS doesn't have memory card support. I have to think twice before buying it (I have two 32GB microSD in both nexus one and MT4 and I have used 23-25GB).
If it had 32GB storage, it's OK, but 16GB isn't enough for me.
well for you yeah i'd say you should skip it.
For me, i'm only using 3.5GB of an 8GB card. Assuming the NS is setup like the GS phones it'll have 2GB for apps, and about 13GB for storage.
So for me, thats good enough... but i sure would like to have the 8GB card as well for a total of 24.
Now i doubt i'd ever use that but it would be nice. I keep thinking i'm going to use my phone for lots of music and movies, but it just dosn't really happen.
However, with apps like hulu plus and netflix coming in 2011, and current apps like last.fm and pandora you can pretty much stream everything, and for video probaby better quality than what clonedvdmobile will do.
So for me, it was a deal breaker, but i'm kinda okay with it now. still want to play around with the phone first before i decide anything.
If everything else ends up PERFECT, then it won't be a dealbreaker. Otherwise, it'll be yet another straw that broke the camel's back.
Everything in the NS will have to function just right. The battery life, heat, antenna performance,GPS, etc. all must function without any glitch at all.
The limited storage isn't a dealbreaker for me... I'm surviving fine now with my N1 and an 8GB card.
Lack of HSPA+ though, I'm not so sure.

My thoughts exactly.
Not sure if I'm gonna buy it, but lack SD-card won't be a big deal. 16gb is more than enough for me
I'm currently using 0.5GB of my 4GB card. I could put my entire MP3 collection of 2175 songs on the Nexus S with plenty of room to spare.
Would be nice to have a card slot, but I don't need to have it.
I'm totally getting one, and probably before they are officially for sale in my country.

not only lack of 3g+ but they removed bt3.0 as well
with bt3.0 3g+ and a mem card it would have been the perfect power phone. nothing exceptional or ground breaking, just a very well rounded package. Right now its just another alternative to the galaxy or droid 2.
The absence of a LED notification is fr sure a deal breaker...

It still supports up to 7.2Mb/s down. Granted thats only a third of what T-Mobiles HSPA+ will be able to do, but it sure as hell isn't bad.
I've been doing just fine on 2Mb/s down on my nexus one, and 3Mb/s over wi-fi at my school and home so honestly i'd be good with the 7.
Though i'm not gonna lie, full HSPA+ would of been nice though.
no. all i have in my N1 is a 16GB card..
Not even close to a deal breaker.
Also if you guys want a led notification down NoLed in the market. Really nice app that takes advantage of the unreal SAMOLED display.
7.2 HSPA for the Nexus is good enough. I bet you guys are all near wifi most of the time anyway.
I use up a 16gb card on my hero so I'd love to be able to make use of the all the 16gb on the phone or be able to add my own card.
Its not a huge deal breaker because I'm coming from a hero and I want something faster. But I'm secretly hoping that there will be an sd card slot like those in the winmo 7 phones.
Perhaps Google is putting more emphasis on cloud storage.
Anyways I should have a Nexus S by Wednesday of next week.
What about when custom ROMs come out, and wiping & flashing are a part of our daily lives?!
No, it will NOT!
The biggest deal breaker for me is the price. The Nexus S is $529 while the MyTouch 4G is $450. After taxes the Nexus S ends up being about $87 more. I don't know if thats worth it... Oh and the lack of an LED notification sucks too. =/
Something you should know about the "available storage". It claims 16GB, but you have to expect around 4-5GB will be used for system, image, and applications.
I think some may know "storage gate" happened on G2 (claimed 4GB, but actually 1.5GB is available for applications), so make sure you check the available storage for applications and user.

The price is far greater when you consider the lack of HSPA+ support (especially when thinking about the Nexus S going into the year 2011...), the lack of a dual-core (again, in respect to where phones are headed in 2011 - as early as Jan/Feb.), the downgrades of the HD video recording, bluetooth, and the aforementioned lack of expandable SD card slot. Suddenly, you're not just forking over money. You're giving up a lot more.
Related: Is NFC just a glorified bar code scanner? NFC in Gingerbread is Crippled!
It seems more and more like you're essentially paying these prices for direct and clean Google updates. To some, this may be worth it.
I'm not sure if Google/Sammy should get away with what I belief was a rushed Nexus branded product.

Nexus S = Rip off?

Hey guys, ordered this in the UK but I'm hearing so many bad things about it.
No Gorilla glass
GPS problems
Feels cheap
Plastic
Crap camera
.....and so on!
£549 quid this cost me and feels like with all the comments it's only worth half that.
To those who own the handset, what's the build quality like and is it simply a good handset to justify the price?
Thanks
£549 is definitely far too much in my option. Simply because it's nearly £150 more than it's being sold for in the US.
My N1 set me back £412 after shipping and taxes.

I can really understand your point, but this is google's phone, it will be updated constantly and all problems rectified quickly, i think it was rushed out for christmas..... HTC phones or Samsung phones are also not without their problems, and i think we are looking at the negatives too much without enjoying the many positives.
549 IS a rip off, thats understood... But we have to understand that the 330 pounds plus VAT & Shipping from the US will add to the price. There is no doubt that this phone is the best Android phone to date, we just need to give Google time to iron out the errors.
GPS is working fine with 98 percent of devices, which sort of falls into line with what we see with other devices.
When you get your phone, enjoy your purchase, and then wait for the next nexus, which will probably be next xmas to upgrade again. I have told myself now that nexus phones are the only way to have a good google experience. HTC phones have major build quality and hardware flaws, and coupled with there inability to even put a decent screen on their flagship device should be seen as showing exactly what they think of their customers. LCD on the Desire HD = Joke. It looks like someone threw domestos bleach over the screen from an off straight viewing angle, lol
Enjoy your device man... Because there is nothing better atm Well at least untill the next Nexus drops;P

Even if it had all the stuff u mentioned people would STILL cry. You would'nt understand until you have it in your hands on it.
The price in the US is $529 which is £340.78. How much is the VAT, 17.5%?
The correct price in the UK should be £400.42.

The price is rather shocking here in the UK 'like everything' so I'm kind of used to that. Sounds very cheaply built which I find very, very worrying for the price.

It does feel that way. But the perfomance is just out this world. It actually deosnt feel THAT cheap though
Reasons not to get the Desire HD
May not get Honeycomb officially (will defo get 2.3)
Internal and external speaker problems, and very quiet. Internal speaker has high static jolts when calling over 2g. This is also the same for the Desire Z.
Heavy phone over a large area, 160g.
Scratch the metal back and your phone devalues without possible rectification.
Terrible screen, big but blacks are very bleached and also you have a white hue over the phone when viewing from an off straight angle.
Horrible battery cover, gap in the back part + easily bends and warped....

The Super AMOLED screen will awe and amaze you. Fricking gorgeous.
I've also got an iPhone 4, Nexus One, and even a Galaxy S i9000. The Galaxy S and Nexus S are by far my favorite screens. I've also compared them to Desire HD, Droid X and a few others. The MyTouch 4G is the only thing that comes close in my opinion, followed right behind by the iPhone 4, but the iPhone's 3.5" is just too small.
Also, this phone is fast! Screw benchmarks, they're not real-world "feel" of the phone. Out of the box, this NS is as fast as my "lag-fixed" modded overclocked Galaxy S, which has posted Quadrant scores of 2200+.

Shipping? From where? It's not made in the US. Shipping from Asia to the UK should be the same as shipping from Asia to the US.
CPW is the UK version of Best Buy. The $529 is including BB's cut, the £400 should be including CPW's cut.
The correct price should be £400. Personally I'd be willing to pay £450, or even £500 if I got it now, before the 20th.

If you're unsure, and own an N1, wait till it gets it's 2.3 OTA update, then go and compare it like for like with an NS in your local CPW.
I plan on doing that even though I'm pretty certain I don't want to get an NS heh

Through all this fog, let's find a glimmer of hope.

Okay, we DEFINITELY know that ATT (as expected), buzzkilled the SH*T out of the accessories for the Atrix. But, let's see possibilites of the future.
First off, I believe the phone can still be $149 if bought from CostCo/Bestbuy with the 2 year contract (hence, the proof of pictures and Amazon), and $199 through ATT. The accessory docks though... yeah, blew us out of the water.
Although, it's a tad bit early to say the least, to give up on these accessories (as for most people, the REAL deal killer is ATT's idiotic mindset that it is considered tethering your phone to an object that works only as good as my flashlight (laptop dock)). We have lots of brilliant minds waiting to get their hands on the dock (hopefully, if the pricing still wasn't enough to kill it), and there may be possible solutions for not having to get the tethering add-on price to it.
We all know many of us here already tether with our grandfather unlimited smartphone plan, what's the loss in trying it out with webtop.
Prerequisities:
We would have to find ways to buy the laptop dock not through ATT so they don't force change our precious current plans
Ideal:
We can use the laptop dock (regardless of price paid for the accessory) and we wouldn't have to be paying for the tethering add-on.
Possible Problems:
ATT and Motorola have figured out a way to "lock" laptop dock usage without the tethering plan. I've not the slightest clue as to how they will do it, but it's very possible.
Possible Solution:
Some devs find a way to bypass those requirements and we'd be able to use the dock scott-free. After that, we can treat it as how we treat how we tether our laptops.
So, we can look up to this, buy the Atrix for 149 or 199 JUST for now, and hope that in a couple of months there will be a solution to this madness. Hell, ATT may put it on sale because of low sell rate, or just competitive pricing, and by then some devs have figured out some ROMs that let us use the webtop app.
NOT ALL IS LOST YET GUYS..... WE DON'T NEED ATT!
Mark my words, bootloader will be locked far worse than on DroidX. They will encrypt the **** out of it.
This is the last straw, I'm spending my last days with AT&T and switching to VZW with MUCH better network, LTE, Xoom and Bionic.
I mean, it's still a bad ass phone by itself. I didn't plan on getting the docks either way, so I'll take my Atrix along with my unlimited data and have one of the best phones out there spec wise

What happened to the 1gb ram thing is it actually 1 gb ram.
If not can some developers hack it so all the 1gb is used for android?

you can be all pissed off at AT&T and be pessimistic about everything or you can take it for what it is.... a very powerful phone with a great display, lots of memory, lots of battery etc.

The Xoom and Bionic won't be locked down? Weird reasoning.

And a useless, horribly expensive laptop dock. Tethering? Hell no.
I'm torn, man. Pissed at the situation, but torn on what to do.

For me, the glimmer of hope is that the most powerful and impressive phone to date can be bought on contract for $150-$200.
I never had a use for either dock.

yep I agree, IF the dock is not around $150 it's too much BUT I would forget about it and just look at the phone by itself. If alone the phone is not enough then I say move on, meaning, wait for a better phone to hit in a month or so. To me the phone alone seems like a great phone...as long as it itself is not too expensive... Time will tell I guess for all of us.
It is easier to be positive in my neck of the woods though cause I don't think Bell will block sideloading and tethering etc..

They didn't block sideloading for Samsung's Galaxy S. Can't see why they'd do it for the Atrix. And waiting for a better phone in Canada may take way more than a month The only other "big phone" announced is Telus' Desire HD! That's so 2010...
The reason the laptop dock will require tethering is because it uses a full desktop Firefox browser, hence you will be loading full desktop websites. If you were to use your standard dataplan, loading full desktop websites will immediately eat into your data usage.
My $.02.

nope...don't buy it....if that was the case why doesn't the multimedia dock "need" tethering...because you can use the same full firefox browser on that....

Yep, that's ATT counterproducing itself. It's stupidity at it's finest.
I can picture how ATT thought about the pricing:
"Oh hey, the internet is mostly excited about the laptop dock and we are getting such a huge fanbase on our Atrix... Let's jack up the price of the laptop dock and add the so-called tethering on it... that'll DEFINITELY kill their joy."

Yea, if you aren't interested in the laptop dock then the phone is still a legit deal; I really, really wanted it though and the fact that it requires a tethering plan eliminates the possibilty of me geting it.

This is the last straw, I'm spending my last days with AT&T and switching to VZW with MUCH better network, LTE, Xoom and Bionic.

I realize you're talking about Bell here, but after talking to some folks with AT&T, I can confirm that sideloading is blocked on the Atrix, at least the AT&T version.

Yeah, it's easy to fix using Sideload Wonder Machine or Droid Explorer.

I agree. I think the reasoning for the tethering requirement is quite simple: economics.
Look at it this way: If Motorola prices the dock at $500, and AT&T subsidizes the price down to $300 (if bought as a package), where will the $200 come from? Obviously it isn't in their interest to give away something for nothing, and AT&T obviously subsidizes devices in exchange for a contract. So I'm sure AT&T is figuring that the $200 discount should be made up for by paying for tethering.
The fact that Moto thinks the dock is worth $500 is still idiotic, however. The real dealbreaker of the tethering plan is the loss of unlimited data that's required for those of us that have it.
I would bet that the laptop dock drops in price pretty rapidly, especially since AT&T/Motorola are going to sell about four of them at that price.

My Impression

So far Im loving this phone. My previous phone was a Htc One x which is equally a great phone but its Wifi and multi tasking issues drove me away. The GS3 seems to be much faster especially since apps stick around in the background and don't have to be reloaded all the time. I know its probably not alot but I can only imagine how much extra data I was using every time I switched between data based apps.
My only gripe about the phone, and its not even phone related is the launching of the GS3. Im glad I have my phone but not having a concrete date led me to buying my phone off Craigslist and having to pay a little extra. Not a big deal since I am paying a premium to be one of the first to get it in my hand; but I went to and callrd several stores and no one has any accessories. I get that it has not launched in store yet but their should be something since pre-orderes have already started shipping.
On a Side note me Htc One X is not retaining very much of its value. I put it on Craigslist for 480 initially and now its down to 440 and still no offers. Its not looking good for the future of the One x.
These phones are really not all the ram intensive, so the extra gig of ram really isn't needed or necessary, even with my multitude of apps running on my s3.
With that said its a shame that the one x isn't performing as well as the gs3 seems to be, because whats the phone really worth if your return on it isn't near what you paid for it?
