I added a Facebook for HTC Sense account and my contacts seemed to sync fine, except there were a few contacts that didn't link to a profile. When I tried to manually link them, it couldn't find my friend's profile!! I tried deleting the account, deleting the cache, re-adding.... its always the same!
Has anybody had this problem and is there a solution for this?
you can always go to 'application info' and delete the data of all your contacts.
(application list, menu button, manage apps, all, 'search contact storage' , clear data, 'search contact', clear data )
restart phone,
resync with google,
resync with facebook.
If this don't work a reset might be worth thinking about...
I've got the same probleme a few weeks ago,
but I solved it by installing my rom with full clean...
(but removing the data clears that part too...)
Thanks for your reply. What did you mean by the "Search Contact".... I deleted the data from Contact Storage, but didn't know what you meant by the next part.
Also, what ROM were you on before and what ROM are you on now?
By search i mean look in de list, the other are button actions, there is an storage app and the app itself.
I was on a previous version of revolution Rom. Now i am on the 3.2 version, going to test betha4 this weekend.
Let me know if it works?

hope you got it working
Still not working lol.. After data reset and clean install of Revolution ROM, same problem, and same contacts aren't able to be found lol
I also tried in Revolution Beta and same issue..
Could it be that, the profile you were looking for got already linked to some other contact? If so then you will not find them.
I think, your FB contact is getting linked to one of the google contact (based on e-mail Address, I believe), and you are trying to link them to phone contact.

It can't be, because I can find others that are already linked. I can find these people fine on the Normal Facebook link, but not the Facebook for Sense link.

*** edit - title is supposed to say No Full Gmail Contacts Sync **
Ok it's taken me a while to notice this as i've had the phone plenty long enough now, but it was only yesterday I needed to add a contact and found that if I select the option to add to Google Contacts it doesn't actually save them. I've tried multiple times and NOTHING. The phone is able to sync DOWN fine but seemingly cannot sync up. Sadly it seems Samsungs incompetent software tweekers have struck again.
Can anyone else verify if this is the case with all Galaxy S firmware at the moment?
So frustrating; really starting to wish Samsung would just have made this phone a STOCK phone like HTC.did with things like the Magic.
Not the case for me. I have flashed and reflashed a hundred times and when I add a contact, it stays and comes back after a flash through google sync.

What particular firmware are you running? It tells me the contact has saved but then when I look through my phonebook the contact isn't there. Try adding one now to your Google account and report back.if you don't mind.
Darkstriker, can you log into your google account to see if all your contacts are listed there? Is it possible that contacts are synced, but they don't necessarily need to show up under the google account?
They aren't showing up on my phone book or online in my Google contacts, even though it says they're saved.
It could be that im running a custom rom, cant remember the name of it but its the main one that isn't SAMSET!
The main one that isn't samset... gotta love that statement.
Anyways: I may be a problem with your customROM. I am using JM2. I just added one and it shows up in contacts on phone and I'm guessing it will take some time to show up in gmail.

Im sorry I'm VERY hung over!
This morning some strange thing has happened. I added my HTCSense account to my DHD just to try. After couple of hours my notification bar signalled the link persons sign and when I opened the notification, it was showing multiple (20+) possible links. After checking I found out that all my contacts were duplicated and, that some of them were automatically linked. I think adding my sense account is responsable for this problem. Anybody else experienced this problem and suggestions to solve. Removing Sense account does not solve this, already tried.
I'm on stock 1.32, rooted and ENG S-OFF
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I have used Google Contact to remove all my duplicates.
Once you sync your contact list with Google account, you can go to http://www.google.com/contacts
There is a button called "Find Duplicates".
There are probably 100s of ways to fix this, but this has worked for me.
yes fixing it within gmail contact options, remove duplicates worked fine for me too
I don`t think he means that his google contacts are duplicated, i just think that google backed up your initial contacts, my question is: your initial contacts(before the duplicate) are on sim or phone ? because sense has a bug where it shows ALL your contacts (sim/phone/google) even if you tell him not to. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907275
All my contacts were on the phone, and came from outlook via HTC Sync.
After syncing, all the duplicates also appeared in outlook.
Happily I have assigned a category to all my contacts, and the newly duplicated ones didn't had any category so it was very easy to delete them from outlook, and sync again. Now they're all gone but also I removed my HTCSense account from my DHD
Edit:
Strange additional thing to mention.
I live in Holland and my last name is "de Vries" which (as you see) has two words. I normally have the "de" added to the first name and lastname will only by "Vries" in order to get them ordered in a proper way ("de Vries" is supposed to be found under "V")
Nothing strange to that, but the strange thing was that some of the duplicates were missing the "de" part of the name
the feature was working just fine before I decided to do a fresh installation of nexusbeam 4.2.3 rom, now I can't sync my twitter account contacts.
I tried to rollback to nexusbeam 4.0.3 to sync twitter contacts but with no luck
I would post this in the NexusBeam thread but I still don't have sufficient post to access the reply feature

actually i had the same problem with a couple of ics roms so went back to cm7.1 and had the problem. In my case it did still sync the contacts just gave the error had to check and uncheck it a couple of times though, so it may be something with twitter.
rolling back to CM7 didn't fix it either, I suspect a leftover preference file from another ROM or something like that is causing the problem.
i will try to do another fresh of stock ROM and report back if it worked.
This seems to be a server-side problem, I can't sync contacts on my Nexus S with stock ICS (4.0.3), even though I didn't change any settings.
This problem started on Friday.
Same here (on cm7)
Previously (on stock rom) whenever I clicked on the twitter link of any contact in my list I would get an error about twitter not being available.
So contact sync never worked correctly for me
my xperia play sync the contacts without any problem, I think the problem might be related to Google devices only. hope they will fix this soon

Same here. It started Friday. Must be a Twitter problem. I can't sync my contacts on my Nexus S or my Xoom since Friday.
Got the same problems.
I re-installed the stock ICS package (no custom roms, no mods, only the same kernel - Matr1x - I had before wiping) and once I tried to sync my Twitter account it said "Unable to sync etc etc"...
Tried again after a few hours and today again but it keeps saying "unable to sync, connect, rofltrolol and so on..."
Nice to see that I'm not the only one having this problem.
PS: before I re-installed ICS, I did a proper wipe (system, data, boot and so on) so I don't think there is any trace of the previous ROM (however, the previous installation was the same IML74K I set up yesterday, so dunno...)
I thought I was the only one with this problem lol. I was messing around with the sync settings and thought I broke it by accident.
Hopefully it gets fixed soon. It was working a few days ago (or at least since my last full wipe)
Had the same problem did nothing now it is working :s

I don't think it's something we can solve. I think it's something Twitter has to solve.

Ditto. I have an HTC Vivid, stock and unrooted, and this problem started happening on my phone last Friday, 1/20.
Contacts still won't sync. Having read the other posts here, I tried creating a new twitter account in order to determine if it was related to settings associated with my account. I had the same issue with the brand new account.
To be clear-- Messages (tweets) sync just fine, and my account is accessible through the Twitter app, but the contacts added previously to my list by Twitter do not sync.

The issue is with the app-- Not your phone.
Just out of curiosity, I checked the comments on the app, itself, in the android market.
Anyone who is unsure if the contacts sync issue is with the app or some fouled up setting on your phone should check out those comments. You can see them for yourself here.
Multiple complaints that the latest update to the app prevents contacts from being sync'd.
The bad news is you won't get twitter updates on your contact list ("people" app on many android phones) and unless you uncheck the option in accounts, there will be a consistent "fail" warning.
The good news is, the app works fine outside of that one feature and the error is related to the app and not your phone or settings.
I'm sure there will be an update soon enough. In the meantime, just uncheck the sync option or ignore the error warning.
Hello guys, I am facing a weird problem that I have never faced before. I have one week old brand new Nexus 4 and its just awesome. But some little bug in the OS is just spoiling the whole experience. I am not sure if its a bug or not but surely it shouldn't happen.
The problem is I always synchronize my contacts with gmail. So whenever I added my gmail accounts first, all of my contacts just came into my phone flawlessly. But one morning I just saw all the contacts disappeared leaving a just few which are of no use. After googling and some small rnd I found the life saving option "Restore Contacts" in gmail contacts. I got them back. Didn't know the reason but thought it would never happen again. Today again this thing happened which really pissed me off.
I have used all of the android OS starting from GB to ICS but this thing never happened. I also found that whatsapp, facebook, wechat contacts are not synchronized properly without any reason. Contacts are not properly shown under "Contacts to display" option. Guys is this problem common in JB 4.2.2 or I am missing something to properly configure my phone. Please share your views friends.

Log in to your google account through a web browser. I'll guarantee all your contacts are still there. Either you are not syncing right or you need a factory reset/flash.
Gmail contacts also deleted when they are disappeared from phone

Thanks for your reply. But let me tell you one thing the moment I saw my contacts gone in the phonebook, I checked my gmail account also. The contacts were also not there. Then I performed a "Restore" action and the contacts came into gmail address book as well as in the phone. Hope I have made the problem clear now. :crying::crying:

Yes I restored my contacts they were fine. They came back to my phonebook but without any reason they disappeared again. I had to do same restore again in the gmail to bring them back in my phonebook. I had not faced this problem before. Thats why I am confused. And moreover can you tell me why no whatsapp and wechat contacts not shown in the phonebook while all the syncs are on? Please tell me if you have any ideas...Thank you in advance.

It's pretty clear to me. The OP added his Google account to his phone, sync'ed his contacts and then some time later found that they had vanished from both phone /and/ Google. He was fortunate to be able to recover them, but the fact that he was able to does not mean that it's not an issue. Likewise, the fact that it has happened again suggests that he needs a little more support that an implied PICNIC reply....

I'd be looking into apps here - if a contact is deleted on your phone, this deletion will be sync'ed back to Google with the symptoms you've reported. Have you scoured your phone for a potential rogue here (either malicious or, more likely, buggy)...?
thanks for getting it finally
thanks daern for understanding my problem. You read my mind. This prob should not happen. Do you mean that any malicious programs are running in my phone?? or any other issue is causing this weird problem. I am not sure tomorrow morning I will see all the contacts vanished again. Its been 2 times I am facing this.

Chances are some (non Google) app on your phone, which has access to your contacts is deleting them. I would backup your storage and "factory reset" your phone. If the problem returns, try removing apps with access to your contacts.

I have a similar problem but in my case there is absolutely no doubt that it is Google deleting contacts from my Nexus 4. I do not even want my contacts synchronized or backed up on Google's servers and prefer to use the phone memory (because I use other apps to back up my contacts). The first time Google deleted my contacts from phone I realized that I had only disabled synch for "contacts" but neglected to also do it for "people" so I made sure all of that was disabled before I went and started deleting duplicate contacts from Gmail (that's right, it not only deleted it from the phone it duplicated them there). I then proceeded to restore my contacts from a .vcf file directly to the phone memory and it worked fine at first. Then, the next day, Google had AGAIN deleted all contacts and again duplicated them on Gmail. The phone has Android 4.3 and is stock other than being rooted. I am hoping to avoid having to delete the google account from the phone altogether. Any ideas?
Hey all,
I decided to flas the latest Oreo Open Beta program (Open beta 1 ) for Oreo. I flashed the official build through stock recovery.
However, when I check, not all contact are synced from my Google Contacts. For example, a contact is present on Internet in the Contacts app, but it isn't synced to the phone.
Anyone has this issue? Any way to solve this? Using stock kernel and stock recovery, everything stock
Thanks for your help!
Same here, but with other device. Tried many opengapps versions (todays, yesterdays, last weeks, 2 weeks ago, nano, micro) doesnt matter.
Not all contacts are synced.
Anyone else?
Yep, same here, it's a global problem with google right now, not even oneplus related or oreo related. see also https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/help/contact-sync-flashing-8-1-image-syncing-t3715229 seems to happen when you set a birthdate or weblink (like google profile)
Same issue. I thought it was my Google account. Factory reset my Pixel 2XL three times! On Stock 8.1
Also having this issue. Started last night after a clean install of 8.0 r34. Nexus 6. Google contacts online shows 800+ contacts, I'm missing about 100 in Google contacts on the phone.
Its problem from google side. Contacts which have weblink attached are not syncing if you delete weblink/google profile link that contacts will sync
Yeah thanks all for your help, saw that this is a google issue, I won't delete the URL stuff in the contacts, gonna wait until they fix it (soon I hope, not OnePlus soon though lol).
OK managed to sync my contacts, had the remove the data from an app, you can find the solution in the link somewhere here.

Ok fixed it. Go to system settings>apps. Show all then click three dots to show system apps. Then find contacts storage and tap that. Then storage and clear app data.

Thanks a lot for the solution. It saved me hours of work. Cleared the app data of the contacts storage app and it synced normally after that.
