Im thinking to trade brand new vibrant for mint condition nexus one with all orginal stuff that came with it? good deal? vibrants too buggy man?
The smaller screen and the not as good touch screen really makes the deal sour. I have both and the nexus is awesome for hacking and Rom dev. But this phone is.just so damn beautiful.

Honestly, if you can wait a month (Or so they say) for froyo + driver fixes, vibrant will perform better in all ways.

Agreed, patience will pay off.
Pm me. Have an N1. Had it since launch T-Mobile. Only one little mark on side. Pics if you want. All original box and everything it came w. Plus a gel case and black siedio slider case.
is it me or the keyboard rotates very slow like when u rotate it goes laggyish also sometimes its standing up and its on rotation as in sideways
I got a Vibrant on the release to replace my N1...
But it has been almost 2 weeks but I cannot do it any longer... I switched back to my N1 today.. My reasons were:
trackball-- I always miss type and the trackball is soo much easier than..
battery life-- same usage but the Samsung cannot make it all day..
2.2.. Main reason, love the built in teethering and speed.
N1 car kit-great for hands free.
online support-- lots of n1 roms.
cover-belt clip--both phones are HUGE and trying to find a belt clip to carry them sucks, I found one for the N1 I love and there are really none out there for the Vibrant..
So, I love the Samsung and think as soon as a 2.2 rom comes out I will switch back but for now I will continue using the N1...

Nothing is slow about this phone to me. Just wit for 2.2.. gonna make it way faster...
Trackball is ugly, and there is a D-Pad in Swype/Samsung keyboards.
Online support? Please.. I can bet you any amount of money that a majority of the "support" is not worth the time or frustration. I can never wrap my head around the people that act like their HTC devices have all of this great support when in fact it's really not very good at all.
Barnacle WiFi tether works great
Battery life is subjective but there is something that you weren't doing on the N1 that you we're doing on the Vibrant because it doesn't make sense for it to be any worse.
Ive had the N1 and to be honest where it failed for me was the reception wasnt that great where i lived, everything else was nice and i do miss my flash (for flashlight reasons) but IMO the vibrant is a lot better in many ways, screen, reception, and being able to play my emulators are 3 reasons, plus i really like the small things that samsung implemented here and there, like the wifi and gps in the notification bar.
The vibrant running 2.1 is just as good as the nexus running 2.2 so what you think is gonna happen when the vibrant gets 2.2? the stupid little issues here and there are things that can be fixed with a minor update,I actually fixed my GPS and slow market issues with a factory reset and its super fast IMO runs faster than the Nexus in many ways.
Honestly its really up to the person. Each person is going to like phones differently. Spec wise though I think the Vibrant has the N1 beat. Larger better screen, better CPU, more storage space, better camera. The N1 has a flash, track ball and 2.2. Of course it has more online support, its been out for 7 months. Give the Vibrant sometime and it will have a lot of support too.
People keep citing reasons for swapping that really aren't reasons at all - they just don't know which programs to use on the vibrant to enable functionality. They are just used to their n1, and seem stuck in a rut.
From XDA App on SGS-Vibrant
I sold my N1 on Ebay and ordered a Vibrant. I love the Vibrant. The touch screen responsiveness is amazing compared to the N1. The screen is much better. But consider that I bought the N1 at release, one of the initial 20,000. I had none of the problems others had with it, but it is 6 mos later so there is bound to be a better phone out there. It is just trading up. I wanted TV out. I could sacrifice a trackball for that. Overall I think the N1 was an amazing and groundbreaking device, but 6 mos later, the Vibrant is the most powerful device on the market.

Hi guys, so I think time is just right to get myselfe my first android phone, and lg gt540 seams just right.
It is most important for me that it is not laggy, I have smsung s8300 now and it is like the slowest phone ever! Also, i like to try many, many apps and games.
So can you guys give me few things you like, and dislike about this phone. Would you recommend it?
In my country i can get optimus or x8 for about 160 Euros, so wich one do you think i should get.
Hello CROrION and welcome I don't know if this helps you are not but I was looking at one yesterday at the Sprint store. I currently have an HTC Hero and was looking to upgrade. It actually feels slightly ligther then my current phone the touch response seemed pretty darn good and on a STOCK Hero it seemed a good deal snappier. It's probably cause stock HTC has it filled full of junk and this phone is a lot closer to vanilla android. I liked it I might change it out if we get a decent Dev in here (hint hint to anyone that reads this lol). Hope I helped in some small fashion.
Don't bother buying one... Unless you buy it from the right place, also check the refund policy...
You may have these problems:
Touch screen unresponsive at the edges (mine is currently being repaired)
3G not working
Build quality isn't great
So take your chances but i would go for a zte blade (aka orange san francisco)
They are supposed to be better.
how about speed of phone (with 2.1 android)?
Is 150MB of ram to little?

The phone is pretty fast but can take a while when run loads of programs.
So thats were Advanced Task Killer comes in.
I say go for it. Its very speedy especially if your using launcher pro as the home launcher. If your like me and your also new to android then you won't be running loads of apps at one time. I think its probably the best entry level android smartphone. The screen res is way better than most android smartphones at the same price as this one. The look and feel of it is also great. Texting on this can be a pain however. Personally the pros far outway the cons.
Now instead of asking for everyone's opinions why don't you just do some research on it and compare with other phones. Im sure that will help you even more than we can.

I kind of agree. I don't think its the best entry level smartphone because it has a resistive touch screen and for a lower price you get a 3.5" capacitive touch screen.
But yeah just go for it!!!
Thanks guys. I've allready took a long luck at it's specs, hardware, reviews, etc. But, imho, best way to find out about the phone is actually asking it's users
I'll go for it, will buy it in 2 weeks
Hope it will ot be to difficult tu upgrade it to 2.1 and add ap2sd
Upgrading android is easier than you think you must only install lg pc suite IV (it contain drivers) and start flashing

You're better off getting something newer.
Unfortunately there are no better phones for $270, off contract, that will work on t-mobile USA network

Personally, I'd go with the N1, but it depends on what your intentions are (my criteria relies on dev support, etc).
I feel that the battery use is heavy, but I can't compare to the defy. I think the screen display is great, and while you can complain about fuzzyness, or whatever from the pentile I still think it's more than adequate (though it struggles in sunlight). The multi touch issue may be a problem if you want to game etc, but I don't game and never have a problem with the digitizer.
Each phone has it's own problems, as does the N1. It's just a matter of matching your needs to the right phone...

Well I should have started with what I expect from it. I do a lot of browsing, reading, and most important - watching videos via flash player and Skyfire. I do gaming, some MMO and strategy/building.
What do you mean by fuzzyness?

N1 is a great phone, and has a lot of life left. Have you thought about a g2x? Its a new phone but there are quite a few for sale, and fairly cheaply. Its got a great screen IMHO and would be better suited for gaming and video watching.
But after 18 months I'm still on my nexus one and its as able as ever.

I'm also trying to decide between these two phones, I want to buy one used and cheap. Please tell your opinions about both.
I don't like motorola because of locked bootloaders. Now it is possible to install roms but it may be tricky. I would like run ubuntu or backtrack ok the phone, so I guess I should choose nexus. However, what are the things you don't like in a nexus one? Is it not multi touch? does it have 3d chip? Is it so bad for games? Any other issues

g2x seems to have dozens of issues. Starting from random reboots, all the way to loss of signal. I was thinking of it too, but I somehow do not trust LG brand that much
the defy is more of a mid range phone while the n1 is/was high end.
the processor on the defy is quite slow and you will notice a speed difference.
the n1 screen is also a lot nicer due to higher res and amoled as well as actual size.
is performance doesn't matter too much then the choice is more about size, do you prefer a larger screen or smaller phone..?
I sold my brand new mytouch 4g on ebay for the going rate of around $280.
Not a horrible phone in terms of speed. T-mobile too.
N1 is prettier tho.

I have a g2x (about to sell), got a cheap upgrade and my phone was totally free of problems. CM7 is now running pretty smooth on it, making it a great phone in my opinion. I ended up reverting back to my N1 because I like the form factor, the g2x just a little too big. I'm now banking on the next Nexus, really hoping that they put a 4" screen (which I really enjoyed on my g2x) in a smaller build.
That said, the N1 is rock solid. Its a known quantity, the issues are negligible, and there has been a ton of development contributing to a great little machine. CM7 on it is just fantastic and only getting better, making N1, 18 months since its introduction, a better and better phone (my battery life with the latest CM nightlies is best its ever been).

I believe they both have 3.7 displays. What about Adreno 200 GPU? I believe I have the same CPU and GPU on my HTC HD2, but you know, this phone is not native to android OS, so would Nexus One's performance be better than one of HTC HD2?

Some say the pentile layout used in AMOLED in N1 causes the text not sharp enough. I guess it is what fuzziness means.
But personally I can't really tell the difference. Plus, you may try to find a 2nd hand SLCD N1 instead of AMOLED one.
AMOLED seems a bit too saturated for me, while some of my friends praise it... picking SLCD or AMOLED will be your own personal choice
One thing for certain is that the MT on N1 is far from perfect, and it is a hardware issue, there is no solution (and never will be) to the crappy MT performance on N1.

I have HD2 now. I am tired of battery life now. It gets top 4-5 hours while playing. I had to carry portable charger at work)
Well Anton
I have an N1 and i have to say it is really the best phone i have ever held...
But it is not perfect, it has a few problems which depending on you, may be a deal breaker:
1- Internal memory is only 512mb, out of which, only 192 mb is dedicated for apps... which leaves you with next to nothing ... of course this is all solved with apps 2sd, darktremor or other solutions, they remain in the end, a work around... So it is not as good as having a good internal memory storage.
2- is the lack of front camera, which for me, makes the phone lacking in terms of future growth, especially when all handhelds get video calling apps like tango or skype, and you would be stuck behind the curve.
N1 vs defy:
My friend just got a defy, it has a smaller screen than the N1 and a lower processor speed than the N1, but it comes with water resistant and shock resistant features which are a bonus.
In the end its up to u... and what you like.
For me, I love the N1's community support, the HUGE list of custom roms and modifications, and the amazing trackball and the trackball LED notifications. As well as its cool looks and the fact that it kinda still is Google's flagship phone and an amazingly sturdy and cool phone... I love it!
Edit: oh and as for battery life, I am getting much better performance on CM7.1 RC1 than i used to get when it was froyo, I usually get 1.5 days with average use and smart usage (wifi/bluetooth/3g off unless i need them and screen brightness on auto)
I'm looking to buy a g2.
Firstly, Is there anything that I should look for? Are there specific versions that are easier to root than others/ harder to brick? (I'm coming from a vibrant and they made a bad batch of those that couldn't get into the recovery, so I want to know if there are any similar issues to be wary of)
Second, do you long time owners recommend the G2? Is it a good phone or should I wait for something else/go for a mt4gs?
Thanks in advance.

Stuck on t-mobile . Idk if I could live with sense on the mt4gs to be honest, and it seems like CM7 isn't coming to it anytime soon.
I think I might just tough it out with my vibrant.
You're arriving kinda late to the game, aren't you? The G2 has been end-of-life'd if I remember correctly.
But it looks like you're in luck as T-Mo is about to drop the price on the G2.

T-Mobile G2 | meXdroidMod Ghost Chilli AIO
Its a solid phone. But as others have mentioned, its getting pretty old. Getting close to a year old, which is ancient in smartphone terms. Unless you get a real good deal on one, or a hardware keyboard is an absolute necessity (G2/Desire Z is still probably the best around with a keyboard), I would spend my money on something with more current specs (CPU, memory, etc.).
You might like to know that the HTC Desire Z / T-mobile G2 is very similar to the Desire S.
Difference is that the Z has the qwerty keyboard and the S doesn't.
(Also, the S is stock clocked at 1GHz and Z is only 800MHz, but it is the same chipset so this can be changed with software).
The LCD, touch screen, gadgets and everything is the same.
The S is lighter and slimmer, also looks better.
If you get over the qwerty keyboard you might prefer the S.
The touch screen is very good and I often use it instead of the physical keyboard on my Z.
Also, even though the physical keyboard is good i cant type that fast. Not as fast as on a blackberry (keys are closer together on most blackberrys).
Some people have issues with the hinge and it's hard to replace.
Personally, I would swap my Z for an S right now. But they are both excellent devices and both **** on an iPhone4 for screen quality, call quality and build quality.
Screen is really good for watching videos, colors are so much nicer than on other devices like iPhone4 or Desire HD. It has a noise cancellation mic that makes voice chat sound really good and I have never had a drop out in the 6 months I've had it. It has a metal chassis and is very strong, dropped it plenty of times and it just scratches never breaks. Digitalizer is plastic so won't crack.
2nd hand, you can pick up a Z for about $250 or S for $300 - ish.
OP, really going to have to agree this device is too old at this point. Almost a year old now so I wouldn't buy one unless I got a damn good deal on it used. Plenty of other great phones out there right now.
It is a year old yet still one of the top performing single core phones on the market. If you can get one for $200 or less with no contract bs then I would say go for it. This phone still goes on ebay used for $150+
Know that finding a good case is tough with this style of phone....I recommend the otter box personally. Their warranty is top notch as well.
I also recommend doing the spring replacement to tighten up the hinge. Ever since I did that little mod, I have been more than pleased with my G2. I have had mine for 8 months and I can honestly say I could care less about upgrading my phone anytime soon because this phone does everything I need it to do and it does it quick enough for me.

Desire S and Z are not the same chipset. Z has the Snapdragon MSM7230, and the S has the MSM8255. And there is also a big difference in the MHz rating of a CPU, and simply overclocking it.
Also the S has 768 Mb of memory versus 512 Mb on the Z; the S has a 1450 mAh battery versus 1300 mAh on the Z; the S has no trackpad but it does have a front facing camera. Really, there is not that much the same between the two phones besides the screen size.
IMO, the hinge "issue" is totally overblown. The hinge is designed to be easy to open and close with a light touch. Some people don't like it, and its just a personal preference.
Since HTC decided to not make physical keyboards anymore, I was very let down. I tried out there ONE series and was greatly disappointed. I always felt HTC was the leader in Andriod based phones, but I feel like Samsung is taking the lead. ( I know, it took me awhile to admit this to myself)
Anyhow, I took the leap to the Samsung Galaxy SIII and I am really enjoying it. I have been using swift key app, which I am typing like a maniac on it and spells everything perfectly.
Ever since removing the service from my G2, I have been using it for an alarm clock. HOLY COW how much the battery life is when there is no data or service! It has been 5 days and I am at currently 79 percent battery.
I used the keyboard today after a week of not using it and wow I do miss it. What are you guys waiting for next? Is anyone jumping ship as well? I feel like there won't be any top tier phones with a physical keyboard anymore.
I'm also getting s3 technically I can't upgrade till Sept but I'm gonna call to see if they allow early extension on contract. I still love my keyboard but I can manage to live without it since the new phone has a huge screen

The Note hardware is great and the size of the display is fun to work with, but I missed my hw kb. I thought with a really big screen I dont need it, but its just not the same feeling...
Besides that, I dont like the storage management on Samsung phones.
And to my surprise, I do not need the dual core power.

I switched to the HTC raider/vivid because; 1 - My Desire Z decided it was going to stop accepting sd cards put into the slot (and yes I tried different sd cards and even replaced the sd card holder). 2 - I needed a large screen phone for my work because I work with a lot of excel spreadsheets.
Needless to say, after half a day and my battery already dead, I longed for my good old "Zed" back. I found someone who had smashed their screen and rebuilt the phone from two defective phones. I'm sorry baby, I won't leave you again! (Till a better solution comes along)
I'm sticking with my Desire Z from here on out until I find a better phone. Something with a keyboard or a better keyboard solution. Also it's got to have expandable memory and a good battery life.
Unfortunately my Z took a tumble down the stairs last night so I went and found an S3 on the local online classifieds. Not sure I like the no keyboard part of it all but I supposed I'll learn to adjust. So long Zed I'll miss you and the great people in these forums.

I am still using the old Pyromod Mecha in mine. The battery life was so amazing with that ROM and still is. But it is kinda slow now, how does ICS perform on the G2? Is it nice and quick?

Its so quick. I can't imagine it being any quicker. Very impressive even rendering google maps went quick. I test drove the gnex a few weeks ago and think my g2 is of comparable speed (I know call me crazy but..)

Did HTC really say they're not making any phones with physical keyboards? This is going to really suck for future phone choices.
