So, with the most upsetting news being released about ATT acquiring T-Mobile, I will be leaving T-Mobile and breaking my contract. I currently have the HTC Vision.
I am here to get your opinions. When I drop T-Mobile, I will be coming towards Sprint to pick up the Evo Shift. My questions are:
1) How is the phone functionality? Smooth? Fast? Random Reboots?
2) How is Sprint Coverage? Spotty? Constant 4G coverage?
3) How is Sprints customer service? Understanding or Strict?
4) Any hardware specific problems? Loose slide? Slide breaks easy?
I would appreciate your opinions. I like to hear it right from the horses mouth.
Well I don't know much about the Vision, so I'm no help there. But as far as how good the EVO Shift is, well it rocks. Was waiting for along time for an HTC Android phone with a real ( not onscreen ) qwerty keyboard. It was definately worth the wait. Phone is Super fast right out of the box. No issues with it at all. Plus it can be customized pretty much any way you want it. Thanks to all the great Dev's and peeps on XDA. I'm running the stock Rom and OC'd to 1.6gHz. Phone is ubber responsive. As far as Sprint's service, well I've been with them for about 6 yrs. Never had a problem with them. 4G not fully up and running in my area. But 3g is plenty fast. Hope this helps.

I did some more searching around, and I saw a few posts saying that the Evo shift is basically the vision. That makes me happy, because I really really like my vision. It is completely one of my most favorite phones I have owned, and I have had alot of phones in the past.
After reviewing the reviews I saw, I am really ready to move towards sprint.
I was with nextel when sprint acquired them, but I was afraid to stay with sprint because of how they operated before the merger. However, I have been hearing alot of good things about sprint from word of mouth, and its steadily increasing my trust into sprint.
I am just so frustrated with T Mobile, I could choke the CEO. But, I guess this is a capitalist country and "if you can't beat them, buy them."
By the way, thank you for you input, really appreciate your time.
I got the evo shift.
1) How is the phone functionality? Smooth? Fast? Random Reboots?
Very fast! Only phone I've ever had that has literally NEVER rebooted on my or crashed. While stock this phone was fast. Now overclocked to 1.5ghz and it COOKS!
2) How is Sprint Coverage? Spotty? Constant 4G coverage?
Sprint has really good coverage in my area. 4G is usually only available in major cities as is pretty much every other company's 4G. I do however get pretty good 4G service in most places near where I live.
3) How is Sprints customer service? Understanding or Strict?
Any time i've dealed with them they were really cool. Ex: My girlfriend was texting her friend in North Korea and didn't know it cost extra. Called up customer service and they waived the charges. They were very understanding and it didn't take long at all. I also got an American when I called lol.
4) Any hardware specific problems? Loose slide? Slide breaks easy?
Only thing I don't particularly like about the Evo Shift is that the slide mechanism isn't spring loaded. Other than that this phone is flawless!

1) The phone is functionally fine. I have yet to experience any wierd quirks and i've had it since the first official day of sale.
2) Coverage with any carrier always varies depending on where you live. I live in New York and my coverage is great. go to sprint.com and look at a coverage map for your area.
3) It depends on who you're talking to. I have had very annoying experiences when talking to foreign customer service reps... but have had good experiences when talking to others.
4) I personally can't stand the sliding mechanism. others seem to like it.

Wonderful. Thank you for your input.
Personally, I had the Gravity by Samsung, and I'm not a huge fan of spring loaded slides. I guess I am very particular when it comes to my electronics, after so long the spring would actually damage the phone, but hey, to each its own.
Thats pretty cool that they waived the fees. I was having an issue with my Blackberry Curve with TMO, and I complained the first time and the person that was helping me was like well since your having issues with the phone, we'll go ahead and give you an addition 800 minutes to help counter-act the issues your having with your phone. Come to find out, the issues I was having were completely my fault. lol. But TMO was here use these minutes ontop of your plan already, and I had the 800 extra minutes for almost 6 months and ever saw a change in my bill.
I live in a major city, Columbus, Ohio. So, hopefully I wont see too many issues when it comes to 4g speeds.
Thanks, really instilling the faith into Sprint.
The shift is definately the best 4g android qwerty phone made by sprint ATM.
Man handcent messed my typing up then I had a goof up and made another post rather than editing I live in Columbus bro Polaris and season malls have great 4 g and on the south side it of Columbus it sucks

Well sir I've only broke 200 KBps on 3G twice so I wouldn't complain
I got 7.3 mbps in Memphis on Wimax, right in Harbortown. Wish I kept the screenshot. Ill take a few next time I'm there.

I am in the exact same boat! I left AT&T (after they suspended my account without warning multiple times for using an unlocked beta dell streak) for T-Mobile, and had been very happy with them. But after the news of the acquisition, I was steaming mad.
I got myself the EVO shift after a few days of reading a bunch of reviews. I go through phones like candy (recent phones before the shift: G2 (2 of them), nokia n8, htc hd7, samsung vibrant, dell streak 5, att captivate, epic 4g (returned within the 30 day), att backflip, palm pre/pixi, bb storm2, etc, etc...). Anyways, the G2 was one of the rare phones I could keep. With CM7, it lasted me all day, it was easy to type on, my only complaint was the poor washed out display. I also loved the HSDPA+, I clocked an average of 2-3mbps down, and since it's still a 3G radio, I didn't see the fat powerdraw like you'd expect from the wimax/lte radios.
Anyways, I only got the evo shift yesterday, and I'm surprised at how remarkably similar it is to the G2. If you put them side by side, they are *very* similar phones, and the dimensions are 95% identical. Since both are on the same qualcomm MSM chipset, I'm guessing they use the same PCB and display connectors, with the evo shift having a 4G radio (while the G2 has a slightly different front panel with the z-hinge and optical pad).
The G2 felt great in the hand - like a heavy, solid german car with no give in the frame. But, also like an oafish pewter german sedan, I didn't think it had much aesthetic appeal. The evo looks great (though I don't dig the dark blue so much, I prefer black), and it feels good in the hand, though not quite as solid and expensive feeling as the G2. The soft touch back is very nice, though.
The keyboard wins on the shift, for me. It's very similarly spaced to the G2, and while the key height feels slightly lower than the G2's, it requires much less effort and provides quite a satisfying "click" (like a pixi's but without that bubble feel). The G2's required a bit more effort, and it slowed my typing down - I am flying on this shift!
My two worst complaints about the evo: the 4G usage is a bit weird, having to consciously balance and compromise between 3G and 4G. The 4G eats a lot of battery, and even more so if your area has spotty 4G. And once it disconnects, you have to manually scan it and reconnect it (unless there's a setting I'm missing somewhere?), so it's just something extra to think about. The other is that weird dark blue color - reminds me of an old dark blue sidekick LX I used to have, haha. Kind of cheapens it imo - if anybody knows of a way to dye it black, I am all ears.
Oh, I used to average 800kbs at home on TMobile's 3G (not HSDPA) on the G2. Sprint's 3G gets me about 400-600kbps here. Peak speeds of the 4G counterparts though - Tmo got me 3-5mbps on average, Sprint gets me about 6mbps average (though I get sprint 4G coverage far less than I did tmo's "4G").
I'm actually *very* happy with the evo shift. I would've been just as happy staying with my G2, but in light of the news, this is the next best thing, imo. Once 4G is deployed more, and CM7 gets a few more RCs under its belt, I have good faith that I'll be very happy with the phone.
Sorry for the novel. Hope it helps, at least

So my girlfriend picked up a Thunderbolt, and I have to admit I'm pretty jealous of the 4G speeds and coverage she's getting. In our building, I don't get any Sprint signal at all in the basement (I always roam on VZW), meanwhile she's speed-testing at 18mbps. In fact pretty much everywhere we've gone in the area, she gets LTE coverage both inside and out, much unlike the EVO's pretty-much-outside-only WiMAX coverage...
I've found WiMAX to work pretty well if I'm outside or in my car, and I'm sitting perfectly still. Of course I can't leave it enabled unless I use my extended battery, or else the phone will be dead in short order.
I guess Sprint's 9 months of being the only provider with "real" 4G phones was nice while it lasted, but VZW is really kicking ass now when it comes to 4G speed and coverage, to the point where I'd say they're pretty much the only player in town.

Well, yeah, your lady is going to get blistering speeds because there might be 1000 people in your whole city with LTE right now. Verizon says it expects 5-12Mbps on "loaded cells." I just touched 10Mbs in Manhattan -- on a loaded net. Not saying WiMax is perfect; far from.
Here's the thing: it doesn't matter to me if you go to VZW -- in fact you're one less connected user on WiMax, so I'll be incrementally faster. If you're gonna go to Verizon, do so once you see what performance of both the net and the device is going to be -- in real world, saturated network situations.
Realistically even when the network gets loaded itll still be faster than wimax. Just like with twice the users the 3G is better also. It just is what it is.

Same thing here. I am ok living with sprints lesser service for the price difference.
The frequencies Verizon has for LTE are fundamentally better than what Clear/Sprint are using for WiMax, at least in terms of building penetration. The higher frequencies do have some advantages, but to me they're *completely* negated by the fact that I go from an "Excellent" 4G signal in the parking lot at work to alternating between "Poor" and "No signal" as soon as I walk in the building. VZW could put Wimax on their frequencies, or Sprint could put LTE on their frequencies, and either way, VZW would win. If Sprint deploys LTE on the Nextel frequencies, we'll have a much more even race.
That said, I like what I pay for Sprint and (especially with the AT&TMobile thing) I don't want to see Sprint fail. I'm sticking with them for now. But 4G on Sprint has been very, very disappointing. There is a point in time -- yet to be determined for me -- when I'll suck it up and pay VZW's prices if Sprint can't improve the 4G network in a major way.

This isn't necessarily true.
As a standard, WiMax has potential for higher speeds than LTE. Significantly higher -- like 30% higher. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_wireless_data_standards
The question is, implementation, as always. Of course, it may be a moot point, as Sprint may cut bait from Clear (because of their mismanagement) and go with their LTE plans with LightSquared in tow.
My point remains, leaving Sprint now, based on VZW's LTE speeds NOW vs what they may be when fully-loaded might be a grass-greener-on-the-other-side move. And you know how that usually ends up...
My house is small and my work has thin walls, I get awesome 4g speed pretty much all the time. I guess if where your at you don't have the same results switch. You'll probably be happier.

Yea and 10 times out of 10 we will NEVER see wimax speeds that high.. not if Clear is responsible for deploying it. And honestly the grass is greener not only interms of 4G speeds, but coverage and 3G speeds as well. In terms of VZW vs Sprint you pretty much get what you pay for. In terms of data I rarely even use the evo anymore. Turning on my wimax is pointless honestly unless im close to a tower. Even if VZW's speeds get chopped in half, which I doubt, itll still be faster than wimax here. The biggest factor is if you look at how many towers VZW has here as compared to Sprint, it makes sense as to why you can get LTE pretty much everywhere you go in in Metro Atlanta as compared to Wimax.. where once you leave downtown you're not really guaranteed to get it at all.
still love Sprint...
Long time Sprint here my self..
But 89.99 + 20% discount for unlimited 4G with Verizon was only $10 more than what i was paying with Sprint..
I love Sprint to death, but until they use their 800MHz spectrum for 4G then i'll be staying with Verizon..
I mean look at these insane speeds...

I just made this exact post in another thread lol. VZW is NOT that much more than Sprint anymore. Especially since Sprint made the $10 premium data mandatory for all smart phones. And im telling you now, if VZW does decide to make that promo that they ran for the any mobile for the same price, its gonna get ugly.

VZW is not much more for an individual user, but with a family plan its a lot more. Total for my 4 smartphones was 60 more a month. Not worth it, especially getting 10Mbps down everywhere I go. 15 vs 10 is just not a big deal to me.

my plan three evo's after tax and 22% discount is 167, verizon for two phones not three after tax and discount was 189!
But like it was said if vzw did anytime any mobile. I might consider it. but then again 90% of people we know are on verizon so maybe it doesn matter.
these are the same customers that complained about the $10/fee
they aint going to pay $10-20 more ...
i agree sprint wimax signal is a joke.. i am in DFW (one of the major oginal wimax cities).. and it sucks!... so much so that I use a ROM that does not even have wimax support!.
i sure hope that sprint has real plans to fix this asap with wimax...not lte.
OP here. I switched from VZW to Sprint for the EVO, so I knew what I was coming from. When we got WiMAX here (DC/Baltimore area) it was at first very spotty, and it's still moderately spotty. I suppose I was expecting to see the same from VZW's LTE offerings, at least for the next year or so, but I was surprised to see how... good it is. I'm sure once the network gets a little more saturated the speeds won't be as good, but still, having 10-12mbps everywhere on VZW is quite different from having 3G in most places and 4G in a few select places like I'm used to now with Sprint.
I'm not saying I'm going to switch back to VZW... I hated the way they nickel-and-dimed everything... I like Sprint as a company much better. I just hope maybe they'll at least increase the back-end WiMAX speeds a little so they can be a bit more competitive with VZW LTE at least with speeds (I know the penetration isn't going to get much better...)
I will never go back to verizon for any reason. I don't really download that much on my phone that I can't do when I have wifi. Since having 4g on pretty much kills the battery, I leave it off most of the time. I love the evo, and if sprint improves things then it's even better.
same here, i have had them both, but sprint has been the best company for me. and where i work i roam the WHOLE time . but when the end of the month comes and that bill is in front of me i remember why im here!! o and of course the EVO !!! FTW
http://phandroid.com/2011/04/14/analyst-sprint-must-buy-clearwire-or-move-on-without-them/
I agree I've had a 4g device for almost a year now with 4g not even driving distance away...I have to travel about a little over an hour, maybe a little more, to get 4g in the city, they got to do something or have a backup plan...I don't think the kyoceras working...
I though it was Sprint's plan to move on without them? I read an article a couple weeks ago that a bunch of Sprint execs had resigned from Clearwire's board. This was just before they announced (or at least rumors began) of moving to LTE.
Doesn't surprise me that Verizon will have their 4g reaching more customers in 1 year than we have now.. I love Sprint, but, they are behind at&t/verizon for a reason.
I have had an EVO since launch and only used 4g on a brief trip out of town. It now looks like I will be upgrading to another phone without ever really using 4g on my EVO. That's sad.
I guess people thought VZW was lying when they said they'd have their entire 3G network covered with LTE by 2013.
Same here. On a trip to pa I used in pa in a certain spot for about 5 minutes

its not that big of a deal
Clear has been having LTE tests in AZ and the wimax equipment as I understand it will be super easy to upgrade to LTE - then sprint releases the LTE devices and BOOM LTE is everywhere that WIMax Was..
http://www.clear.com/blog/size-matters/
sprint always tries to bring new tech first...
but always seem to fail in the follow through.
What spectrum was that phoenix testing done on? 2400mhz??
What speeds does Wimax have when there's only 1 user on it?
That video seems very promising considering how those speeds were faster than my Uverse.

That's part of the problem - there isn't much coverage and where there is coverage, quite frankly it sucks. I live in Houston and leave 4g off because the coverage is so spotty.

I would rather have the expanded backend like T-Mobile has, where a normal 3g phone will pull down 5mbps. 21 mbps down is nice but what would I need that bandwidth on a phone. It is almost embarrassing how many people have not gotten to use their 4g on their Evo. I went to San Diego from Phoenix and I still wasn't even able to find any 4g connection. I've really enjoyed the rom experience with the Evo, but I was really looking forward to the 4g stuff.
Luckily bay area has 4g. It is amazing how just a few years ago dsl was screaming fast now my phone can blow it away.
I'll be another upgrading to an evo3d without ever really using 4g on my htc evo......4G!

I agree with this, in my area Sprint consistently pulls about 200-400 kbps down on 3G. A friend with VZW showed me his 3G speed test results - routinely around 1500-1700. If I had speeds like that, I wouldn't ever even want or need 4G.
I like Sprint, but man their 3G is very disappointing. During lunch hour on weekdays, I've seen it drop to nearly 50 kbps. It makes me yearn for the days of blazing fast dialup modems... :/

This is what I used to say about T-Mobile where I live in Utah. I average what your friend is getting on Verizon with Sprint's 3G network here.
Speed test sitting at my desk at work right now (about my average 3G speeds, usually a little higher):

And with a really weak 4G signal:
Further north 4G I can hit up to 6,000-7,000. Not that I ever use it.
EDIT: Interesting that the upload speeds were the same lol

I agree with this, in my area Sprint consistently pulls about 200-400 kbps down on 3G. A friend with VZW showed me his 3G speed test results - routinely around 1500-1700. If I had speeds like that, I wouldn't ever even want or need 4G.
I like Sprint, but man their 3G is very disappointing. During lunch hour on weekdays, I've seen it drop to nearly 50 kbps. It makes me yearn for the days of blazing fast dialup modems... :/

Sprint in my area is fine. Holds around 1mpbs so not to bad. However Verizon in this area kinda sucks cause there is so many people on it. Two of my friends had to tether to me while tailgating just to get some.bets off

But but but ...Verizon is God.
This is what I've been saying, technology isn't perfect.
No amount of money can protect you from problems.
Sprints 4G has not gone down and we have five times the amount of users. 3G works fine in most areas except his borough on NY.
Either way, tech is tech, things happen.

You know I could explain what went wrong here, but I'm slightly enjoying the I told you so feeling. Also, I'd rather wait to see it reach 2 million LTE subscribers before I mention my reasoning. Having said that, Verizon's LTE strategy is fantastic for the consumers, and their 3G/4G offering is currently better than Sprint's. To say your carrier's 3G works fine everywhere but NYC is laughable and silly. Steps were made to make both 3G/4G more enjoyable for the customers, and your patience will be rewarded.

Sprints network works fine except areas being upgraded where towers are being removed and integrated into one, we know this already, so yes it works fine in most areas believe me. The only reason I mentioned NY is because that's his area.

Sprint's network works great, except where it doesn't. Their 4G has never gone down, especially where it hasn't gone up yet.
Well, apparently I don't live in "most areas". Speeds here in Reno, Nevada range from barely tolerable to pathetic. At my house I average about 200 kbs down with a low of 87 kbs to just over 500 kbs. At work, in the middle of town, it averages a little better, around 800 kbs, but is much more erratic with lows around 100 kbs, and very rare highs of around 1600 kbs. Bottom line though, virtually all other carriers are faster than Sprint is here, by a pretty good margin. And it has been that way for about six months now. And then their is the 4g that was promised by the end of the year when I got my phone last June, lets just say I am not holding my breath. I think it would be a pretty good bet that all the other carriers will have 4g here before Sprint does.
That said, I am not necessarily a disgruntled customer. With the exception of Verizon, Sprint has the best coverage here, But Verizon's 4g probably won't get here any sooner than Sprints. ATT's phone call quality sucks, even though their 3g data speeds are at least 2-3 times faster than Sprint on Sprints best day. And Tmobile has the best speed of all, but their coverage totally sucks. So they all have their pros and cons. I'll stick it out for another year, until my current contract runs out. If Sprint doesn't get their act together by then though, I will definitely consider moving on.

I've been with Sprint since 1999 and I'm not going anywhere; I'm a stick it through with them until their network gets better. However, I doubt that Sprint has been integrating the new system into the old one for over half a year in my area. In that amount of time, you would assume that at least one tower would be upgraded by now. My 3G service has 1x speeds everywhere I go in Miami.
Maybe it's one of those things where they can't flip the switch until EVERYTHING is upgraded......I don't know. However, anytime my girl sends me a short video of my kid doing something cute, it's a 20+ minute wait to download 5 MBs if I don't have 4G coverage or WiFi. I used to brag about how fast my phone was and now I try to sneak out of any conversation that has to do with data speeds. lol
DirtyShroom is thirsty to make his employer look good. Networks go down, and you act as if any of Sprint's network has never gone down before. Guess what, it has, and it probably will again.
BTW - I have absolutely no affiliation with Verizon. Don't even have an account with them (EVO/Sprint + ATT/iPhone). What I have said in the past is that:
A) Sprint's EVDO network in NYC is pathetic right now, and most signs point to overcapacity.
B) Verizon's LTE is both faster and more usable because of it's frequency.
So it seems as if Verizon's LTE network is currently down, doesn't effect me, and by the end of the day, it probably won't effect anybody.

Pretty big difference between Sprint and WiFi, which is useless when I still cannot make or receive calls... Here's the bottom line people. Read the Sprint forums and listen to iPhone users *****ing that Sprint has crippled "their data service" Really? LMFAO! It's the iPhone users that have crippled service for everyone else. We were supposed to have 4g a year ago and don't and won't ever have it. Its the iPhone users causing the data issues and Sprints poor decision to carry it on this old network. Im guessing people with good 3g service don't have many iPhone users in their area.

If you read the stories, people are complaining that the iPhone is getting much slower data than other Sprint phones in side by side comparisons, same time same location.
Seriously, I hate iPhones as much as you do, but why are you blaming them for your crappy service? They don't use any more data than high end android phones. Sounds like the tower in your area has an issue. Maybe they are doing maintenance.
I just ran a speedtest at my house, which has always been a low signal area. (side of a hill, shadowed from the tower). Today I'm getting 2 bars (never seen more than 3 here, usually get 1 or zero.) and in 3 tests I got a low of 226 kbps and a high of 320 kbsp on 3G. Pretty normal for the location. Trust me, the iPhone is everywhere in this neighborhood.

I doubt they're doing maintenance. We're usually the last city for anything with Sprint, and this bad service started for me also right after the iPhone launch, it could be anything, but it coincides with that.
And what sucks is the week of the iPhone launch I was able to download the cm7 ROM in less then 30 minutes, now I'm lucky to get 1 bar of signal if I hold the phone just right.
Sent from my SPH-D700
My signal has been wavering in the last few weeks. I go back-and-forth between 4 bars to none. I live in a metropolitan area that too was promised 4G over a year ago by sales representatives in-store. (Yea... no need to comment on that. I already know the responses, ha ha.)
If you are unhappy, you have three options:
Leave Sprint for another carrier.
Call Sprint and complain. You may be able to get some type of monetary and/or technical assistance for the issues.
Do nothing and enjoy the wonders of Sprint's "marvelous" network.
The last option is my tactic for now, as I want to give Sprint the opportunity to fix their coverage in my area. Though my patience is wearing thin.

I just posted on twitter yesterday about this. I'm getting .25-200kbps down and 24kbps up. :-(

Sounds like you're getting what you're paying for!
In all seriousness, pathetic speeds, but their customer service at least seems good. I can't complain around here... Just pulled 1057/370 on 3G.
I just pulled 653kb down and 459kb up. Not as bad as some (Rob) but still pretty pathetic.
@John: Between your super 3G speeds and the battery life shots Zigg & Paul keep sending me from their Nexus S's, I'm a sad panda here.
Has anyone else had problems with 4g connecting todayin the baltimore area?
At my work location in Long Island, I get the same speeds with Sprint 3G as I get on Verizon 1x (RoamControl) = pathetic. It is indoors but close to a window. 2 bars with Sprint, 5 with VZW. Once Prime is released, methinks it's goodbye Sprint, hello VZW data caps
Hang in there. I can honestly say I was in your boat for months here. They finally rolled out extra capacity in my city last Thursday. I'm getting 1.5 MBits/sec at last.
Before that, I was getting 50kbps down, or sometimes it would timeout.
But you should call in and file a complaint. I'd imagine problems tend to get fixed faster on the technicians queues with more complaints.
That network speed test that your using will get you mixed results. Change your closest tower in the setting and try again. I was getting the same results whe I picked my hometown kalamazoo, mi. But when I picked chicago. My speed went up. I notice this while doing a speed test on my home computer. Then when I had my wifi on my phone I was getting a third of the speeed I should of.

I want to say that the HTC Hero is an amazing phone. I currently owe Sprint money on a back bill, and I have gotten stuck with a prepaid Tmo phone (LG Mytouch) the phone is average with specs close to the first sgs' but not much to choose from by way of custom roms (nothing like the Hero). I plan on paying my bill off, then once I do I am wondering if I should resign a contract or go the prepaid route. If I do prepaid it is going to either be Boost or Virgin as my first two choices with either the HTC Evo Design or the HTC Evo 3D. My only other option is going to be Cricket with there best android phone at this time the Huawei Mercury. I refuse to stay with Tmo because there coverage in my area is EDGE (1 or 2G) and there 4G (3.5G) is 25 miles away so I get stuck with dial up speeds on a smart phone there pricing is good 30.00 unlimited text and web and 100 mins a month (I dont talk much)
I still have my HTC Hero yet the flashing of roms has slowly went down with the battery that only last 2 hours on a charge (going to replace that and use it in my car as a pmp)
I would like opinions on current phones from sprint or others and opinions welcome on where I should go ....
that evo 3d that virgin is offering is looking like a pretty good deal. i think when i get paid i might go for that myself.
Boost "where you at"
I ended up going with Boost and the Evo Design 4g because the Boost website had a 20% off deal (code 20OFF) and a local Bestbuy price matched it at 225.00. I must say the phone feels solid and pretty quick right out the box. I even had a chance to do some friendly comparisons between Boost (Sprint) and Tmo. While I was in the neighborhood of my not so local bestbuy (Pittsburgh 45 miles from my house) I pulled out the Evo and turned on its 4g and pulled out the mytouch and its 4g .... well Tmo sorta blew the wimax out the water but still very impressed with wimax
Lets begin I would love to live closer to either version of a 4g network but I dont. Tmo within a 20 mile radius of my house is only set up on there EDGE network so I get 56k speeds, Boost is a lot better at about 800k. Tmo's 4g down on the outskirts of Pittsburgh rang in at a nice 3238 down while wimax was 1786 down .... but the upload side of the speedtest was what felt weird Tmo's was only 481k and wimax at 1292 .... I think both plenty fast enough for most of the stuff I am doing ... But I had to choose Boost over Tmo because of the poor coverage in my area (good coverage just awful speeds for a smart phone)
With the Wimax speed it sorta makes me wish they could keep it and spread it out a lil more .... lol
Glad you got something you like. I've loved boost ever since I started with them 4 years ago, and see no reason to go anywhere else lol. I don't get wimax at all where I live so no big deal, the 3g speeds are plenty enough for me.

We did have a good run over here. I know I still use my hero as a backup when my phone is down. Or as a VOIP.
dont worry guys were still having said run. i or someone else will bring jb ports (aokp, paranoid, miui) to heroc when shelnutt gets everything worked out. actually i was just looking at paranoid jb over in wfs forums, and it looks like it may be an easy port. key lime may be a different story, but im willing to bet we wont be out in the cold.
ill make someone a deal, ill port it if anyone else wants to maintain it?
lol and jmphillups, dont worry bud. you made a good choice. the evo series has some pretty sweet phones, and its a great logical step up from the heroc. im loving my og evo 4g rocking evervolv jb and its plenty slower than that evo design 4g you got.
Whaa? Freakin sweet!
that is some awesome news I just got the battery from ebay and was flashing some of my all time favorites like OMGB and OMFGB and the couple sense 2.2 roms that I have collected. I am glad to see these things coming. Thanks
yeah I been using mine as VoIP also both with a sipgate setup and I just purchased GrooveIP ... its also my MP3 player, may not be as fancy as an IPod but I was never a fanboy anyways.
I have had my Evo3D for over a year now and I love it but for some reason I can not part with my Hero. I just flashed TWRP 2.2.0 recovery to i today and flashed a new rom and and its like christmas all over again. LoL I love this little phone.
Some reason though the market always FC on me. Wonder if it has anything to do with not having any service. Trying to update some apps over wifi and it always FC on me.
EDIT: Looks like the market is working just fine now on this new rom. I am able to download and update apps now. HAPPY!!
Lol I hear ya brother. I'm still flashing over here. My latest endeavor is to make a ime keyboard like the one for our hero.
