OTA updates on Tiamat kernel - Xoom General

I was wondering if anyone did the 3.0.1 update while on the Tiamat update or if you needed to be on the stock kernel when an update came out?

The kernel wasn't touched between HRI39 (3.0) and HRI66 (3.0.1). So you should be good there. The only issue with the HRI66 patch is if you started messing with /system, as you might have inadvertantly changed a file that HRI66 wanted to patch.

I got the update while on Tiamat and it installed perfectly.

Moved. This is NOT development. Please post in the correct section. Thank you.

[Q] Stock Rom

What's the latest US OTA stock rom? I've tried both of the custom roms, but I'm thinking of going back to stock for a while, just to compare again - especially since 3.1 is just around the corner.
Chlballi
1.141.07_COM_GEN1 is the latest I've seen in the wild.
Thats what I ended up grabbing and reflashing. I just can't wait for the 3.1 OTA to be released to see what can be done with it.

Netflix DOES work on 3 . 2 (No, I'm not kidding)

Since I can't post links yet, please bear with me....
I followed the instructions in the DEV thread titled: CWM Rooted Update to STOCK 8.6.5.6 from STOCK 8.4.4.11 US only
My TF is stock (8.4.4.11), rooted, and I had just installed CWM using the Pure root v4 thread.
Downloaded the 3.2_root file, copied it to my mSD card, then rebooted into CWM Recovery. Upon install, it threw an error about being unable to patch libnvomx, which I remembered I had overwritten for the Netflix hack. I rebooted, copied back the original file, then re-ran the 3.2_Root file, and Voila!
I then copied back the hacked libnvomx file, rebooted, and Netflix works great.
About tablet page shows:
Android version: 3.2
GPS Version: 1.5.0
Wi-Fi version: V5.2.52
Bluetooth version: V6.19
Kernel version: 2.6.36.3 android (at) Mercury #1
Build Number: HTJ85B.US_epad-8.6.5.6-20110726
So, assuming the patched file did what it says, it seems to be working. I am now getting what I think is a newer update message than before. The notification bar tells me: Asus System Firmware Update Service: New system firmware update available, press to upgrade.
Guess I'll have to kill that service???
Okay, how about non rooted?
It worked on 3.1 rooted too. Whats the big deal?
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...
I thought people were saying Netflix wasn't working at all (rooted or non-rooted) on 3.2?
Or is the way I did the update the only way to maintain root and get 3.2?
People were expecting netflix capabilities without root

So my xoom is still stuck on 3.0.1 why wont it update? And is there a way to force it to?
Followed this guide for my canadian xoom.

I wouldn't expect the Canadian update any time soon. The google buyout seems to have put a hold on the android updates Moto was releasing for non-US customers. Just last week on the official moto forums we were told if we want 'early' access to it, we should sign up for their testing program. What does that tell you? Nevermind it's almost the end of august now.....
Rob
I!m in canada as well, just root and install the hammerhead rom that's around. I have a smoother device for it and have absolutely no regrets!
Some user on the official moto forums said the Canadian OTA 3.1 update is live now with working sd card support (r/w). I can't test, I returned my Xoom and got a Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Rob
Canadian 3.1 OTA updates are indeed live. My 3.0.1 Xoom just now offered to upgrade itself to 3.1.
"Your tablet has been upgraded to 64.0.20.en.CA version"
Yup mine just updated today. Crazy timing
were you guys rooted with tiamat kernel when you updated?
I got the update but I hit "later" to make sure I:
1) don't lose root
2) don't brick due to custom kernel
Any thoughts?

Don't try to OTA update if you are rooted/with or without a custom kernel. Being just unlocked appears to be ok.
The Tiamat ROM has been known to cause some issues with the OTA updates, but that is due to the nature of the device being rooted. A few members have experienced bootloader issues where the device will stay stuck on the Honeycomb boot animation.
When that happens, all you can do is wipe and restore. You shouldn't have to do that now seeing that both Tiamat and the official US ROM are now up to 3.2.
I'm not on the Tiamat ROM, I have the kernel only (3.0.1 official from google, bootloader unlocked, rooted and running Tiamat Kernel 1.3.2)
I should wait then?

I would say yes, don't do it, but if you want to experiment, just make sure you are prepared to come back from a soft brick.
yeah I'll wait I hate starting over... I'll wait for a patched update.zip or something!
Thanks (hey at least 3.1 for Canada is finally out... 3.2 is out for the U.S. and 4.0 is coming... geez)
Can't wait for 4.0.

I can confirm this. Downloading nao!
For those of us who rooted our device and want to update OTA, what are our options? If I wipe my device, does that eliminate root which will allow me to update OTA?
Any news on 3.1 Canada? I get a popup every couple of hours and I hit "LATER" everytime ... waiting for the right way to do it

[Q] Need help with OTA aftter Neflix Patch

After doing the Netflix patch I am unable to do a OTA update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16663461&postcount=60
The build number is now reading
HTJ85B.US_epad-8.6.5.6-20110726
When i do a check for update i get this message
Fota Download
build number error!!
HTJ85B.US_epad-8.6.5.6-20110726
Please, any way to revert? Of course, being the noob that I am i did not make a backup of the files that were edited by the patch.
luckily when it updated to 3.1 I took a picture!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15399268&postcount=202
So given that I now know what build i had on here could I go to this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878\
and with this package
Acer_A500_4.010.22_COM_GEN1 : http://vache-android.com/v1/download.php?fileID=63
extract the Update.zip and potentially revert my iconia?
Thoughts before I go ahead and do it?
Oh great!
The .22 build is no longer there!
Found this though, but would prefer a verified file.

I believe all you need is an original build.prop from the correct build you were running. If you can find a download of .22, you can extract the build.prop (in /system folder) and swap it back.
Thanks!
I grew a pair and decided to try flashing a rom. I flashed the newest .38 (i think that was the update number) build of stock and we're all happy.
Sweet, I was just gonna say that if you did a nand backup revert back in recovery.
ya, sadly i did not to any backup, except my full backup i did before putting in the new roms.
silly newbness of me.
I had reverted to the .22 build that is available through clockwork, but it still would not allow me to do the update. it downlaoded but failed on install.
I saw what version it was updating to so i just installed that through CWM andthen reapplied the netflix patch. so i'm still sitting at that stupid Xoom version number until i decide to try the next update.
Sigh.
i just wish Netflix would recognize our tablet, #assesoffire.

[Q] help! no update from android 3.2

Can anyone help me please.
I bought a 2nd hand rooted a500.
successfully flashed to a near stock 3.2.1, but then decided that i wanted to return to stock in order to get OTA updates up to ICS. With a little help on here I managed to flash one of the stock 3.2 roms from vache.
system now
android version = 3.2
kernel version = 2.6.36.3+
build number = Acer_A500_7.006.03_COM_GEN1
as was the aim, however I'm not recieving any OTA updates, system update claims tablet is up to date!
Has anyone experienced this too, or got any ideas where i'm going wrong

You didn't do anything wrong. Acer suspended the ICS updates for awhile. Looks like they may be regionally starting again.
Just wait,.
Thanks for the advice.
I'm trying to be patient, but i'm still not getting the updates.

Have you installed the incona tab update enhancement from the play store
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the reply, yes i had installed the update enhancement from play store.
I have now solved the problem so i thought i'd share what i found.
The problem I had:-
I was rooted, but wanted to go back to stock to try the stock OTA ICS. I flashed a stock 3.2 full package from vache's page. The one I went with was 7.006.01_com_gen1. Carried out successfully, however no updates available when doing the system update search. waited a week still nothing, even tried factory reset to clear everything out.
Solution:-
I got impatient so flashed the unstable 3.0.1 rom intending to root again.
before rooting i tried flashing other stock roms (no reason it shouldn't work i reasoned). Successfully flashed full package 4.010.38_com_gen1 (vache's page). tried OTA updates from there and it was successful!!
OTA'd to 7.006.01, then 7.014.01, then on to ICS
Conclusion:-
the difference appears to be the version of android 3.2, I can only assume that 7.006.03 isn't supported in the UK where as 7.006.01 is. If i'd flashed that one in the first place I assume the updates would have worked.
Hey, can you point me to the files and instructions on how to get this done? I rooted it to 7.006.05 long before using thor rom I believe. Not very familiar with the rooting game, but I'm still unable to get ICS update OTA.
FYI, Acer a500 8gb model US.

My understanding from reading around a few threads is that OTA tends not to work if you are rooted and/or running CWM. Not sure on process of un-rooting as i've not done it. But i'm guessing one solution would be flash a stock version of same rom, then do OTA updates.

this thread has the full packages, i'm not sure which will be the correct one for the US but others on here might be able to help with that.
If you rooted via CWM its really straight forward, I followed these instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205204
just follow 2. and/or 3.
I want to keep root and go to ics. I know I need to install ics bootloader but have not found a solid thread yet, at least not one that I can flash. Anyone that can direct me to a proven method from 3.2 will be appreciated. I am rooted and gave custom recovery installed cwm.

also most of those roms have the ota disabled: here's a stock ics non rooted but again they take out the OTA updates( get both of these and rename it to update and flash)

if this works\/ any cash flow would help in developing my new rom
