[Q] Need help with OTA aftter Neflix Patch - Acer Iconia A500

After doing the Netflix patch I am unable to do a OTA update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16663461&postcount=60
The build number is now reading
HTJ85B.US_epad-8.6.5.6-20110726
When i do a check for update i get this message
Fota Download
build number error!!
HTJ85B.US_epad-8.6.5.6-20110726
Please, any way to revert? Of course, being the noob that I am i did not make a backup of the files that were edited by the patch.

luckily when it updated to 3.1 I took a picture!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15399268&postcount=202
So given that I now know what build i had on here could I go to this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878\
and with this package
Acer_A500_4.010.22_COM_GEN1 : http://vache-android.com/v1/download.php?fileID=63
extract the Update.zip and potentially revert my iconia?
Thoughts before I go ahead and do it?

Oh great!
The .22 build is no longer there!
Found this though, but would prefer a verified file.

I believe all you need is an original build.prop from the correct build you were running. If you can find a download of .22, you can extract the build.prop (in /system folder) and swap it back.

Thanks!
I grew a pair and decided to try flashing a rom. I flashed the newest .38 (i think that was the update number) build of stock and we're all happy.

Sweet, I was just gonna say that if you did a nand backup revert back in recovery.

ya, sadly i did not to any backup, except my full backup i did before putting in the new roms.
silly newbness of me.
I had reverted to the .22 build that is available through clockwork, but it still would not allow me to do the update. it downlaoded but failed on install.
I saw what version it was updating to so i just installed that through CWM andthen reapplied the netflix patch. so i'm still sitting at that stupid Xoom version number until i decide to try the next update.
Sigh.
i just wish Netflix would recognize our tablet, #assesoffire.

anyone have a backup copy of 4.010.11?

So I don't remember what build I originally had, didn't backup my ROM bcus im a nub, made a mistake editing a file in system/lib which caused my tablet not to boot past the android screen. Came to this forum for some help, kjy2010 came to my rescue. provided me with a full build of 4.010.40 GEN1, placed update.zip in external SD, booted into recovery mode & let it do its thing. worked like a charm & fixed my issue, but then someone said I should have a US build, can anyone tell me why? if so.. anyone have a copy of 4.010.11 they can provide me with & how I would go about to install it. Is it the same concept as done before? Really the main thing is, will I have issues downloading new updates? if I don't switch to 4.010.11.. or will I have an issue regardless bcus I don't have the original ROM.. & if so.. how am I going to be able to work around it in the future.

Market....get Acery Recovery Installer. After you install it, go into the app and have it install Clockwork recovery mod, miking sure you click yes when it asks you to backup your recover image.
Here is the thread on CWM, although you no longer need to push to install thanks to Acer recovery installer:

Then follow this thread to make your full backup of your ROM:

Mainly the differences are in the software you get with the tablet and certain underlying factors in the settings, like what channels are allowed in wifi....especially wifi n which allows a greater variety of channels, bands, etc. The world around uses different channels based on government regulations/standards.
I suspect this is why a number of people have issues with connecting to Wifi. They get ROMS from XDA, update their U.S tablets with foreign ROMS and vice versa and then have wifi issues.
You technically don't HAVE to be on a U.S version if you're in the U.S, but for the reasons above, I wouldn't ever recommend using a foreign ROM.

OTA Update 7.014.1

Tonight i received a notification that there is an update available OTA for my A500.
Version announced is 7.014.01
Where's the update file supposed to be downloaded to?
I tried to apply it, but there was an error somehow. In the middle of the update process a red triangle popped up. How can I examine the update file better?
Are you rooted? My experience is that most devices will notify you of an update just by version checking, but will fail if rooted because the files the upgrade expects to have in place have changed due to rooting. So you have to either go back to stock, lose root or wait for someone to create a new rooted ROM with this update intragrated.

For sure.
Or, it's possible all of that updates have been implemented with some of custom ROMs, like the new Market version, e.g..
I pulled the patch and decrypted it. I pulled the update.zip file now I'm trying to see what I need to do to it to make it flashible through CWM.

If you have a custom rom installed you cannot flash an official update. Also if you have a custom recovery installed it will also fail as official updates can only be flashed via stock recovery. This official zip file would need to be deodexed etc then compiled by a chef to be flashed via cwm.

I think so it works like stock recovery but with more options , it is the update script that tells where everything needs to be.
But make sure you remove recovery from update and that you add su(superuser) in bin or xbin with the proper permissions for root or you will lose it.

Not sure, but they came back-to-back from what I heard from non-rooted users. Got the first one, and then immidietly got the next one when it booted back up.
To me, that says, first update had some minor bug that they found, or remembered, and then fixed, but since some had already updated to .01, they had to just re-patch that one...?
Maybe you could logcat where the first one comes from, and get the second one from the server? I dunno, I'm not a dev, I know just enough to get myself in trouble...

[Q] i deleted my stock 3.2.1 (honeycomb) backup

Hi,
I installed the EOS 4.0.3 ICS ROM on my Xoom WiFi, but before I did that, I did a Nandroid backup of the rooted honeycomb ROM that I had before. I don't know how it happened, but I accidentally deleted that backup. Now I wanted to restore that backup so I can get the OTA upgrade to the official ICS. The build number that I had in stock honeycomb was HTK75D, I don't know if that matters or not but I just wanted to say it just in case. So all that I really want to do is to install a ROM on my Xoom that will allow me to get the official OTA upgrade to ICS, and then reroot again. If there is any way to do this please leave a comment. Thank you.
You can find the stock firmware at MotoDev. It also includes the fastboot commands to flash the images. Re-locking the bootloader I think would be optional to getting the update. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I looked there and I couldn't find img for the build number HTK75D. Where can I find that one?
Thank you for replying
You will need to just install the images for the Wifi Xoom and then just update it to the current release.

Can you just install any build number, or does it have to be one spicific one?
Again. Flash the OFFICIAL images.
Stop worrying about build number crap. Official images will go through the ota process right away up until at least the last honeycomb version. If your device is already on the ice cream sandwich roll out list it will get that as well.
For a US Wifi Xoom, you want this. It is for build HWI69. Once you have it flashed you'll just need to keep checking for system updates until you're back on the current release. There are no more updated images at this time. It's possible that if you wait, they will release an image that contains the ICS release, but there is no guarantee.
Can i still use the universal Xoom root for the ICS update, or is there any other way to root when it has been updated to ICS, or can I not root once I have updated to ICS?
I believe that universal root works with ICS.

Get Asus to stop sending me the wrong update?

I have been getting this update for my TF101 every few days or so. It downloads an update, then when I click on install update it reboots, starts loading the update and fails halfway through the intall giving me the sad android with the triangle exclamation point. I read on another thread that you have to clear the cache in DMClient, which I do every time this happens. But why does it continue to send me this stupid update? When I followed the previous thread I mentioned, I was able to see that the update was actually meant for the prime, not the TF101. Just wish they would stop sending me an update that makes me get my hopes up for ICS.
Anybody else having this happen?
Maybe you chosen by asus to be a lucky ICS beta tester.

haha, yeah if this is what ICS is going to be like, then no thanks. I am not really having any issues with honeycomb at the moment (after overclocking). But like most everybody else, I can't wait to try out something shiny and new.

That's probably the way to go, but I've had no luck thus far. I'm on stock Rom with Netformer 1.6 kernel. I tried doing this with OTA Rootkeeper. Unrooted, installed update, got same error. Then rebooted and re-rooted with the OTA Rootkeeper app. Does this mean I need to revert back to original kernel? Everything has been pretty good on Netformer, and it's definitely more snappy than stock.

Which stock ROM are you on? You might be getting the OTAs if you aren't running the latest (8.6.5.21?). The custom kernel probably installed a kernel module that is preventing the update from flashing.
Can you grab the OTA? I'm curious what they are sending you. It will be in /cache/dlpkgfile- you can copy that someplace and upload it. I think these should do it, but PM if you need help with terminal commands.
In terminal, type:
cp /cache/dlpkgfile /Removable/MicroSD/
OR with adb:
adb pull /cache/dlpkgfile
Here's the zip. Maybe you can tell me what this update really is. I guess my current stock Rom version is 8.6.5.19. Sounds like the kernel is preventing me from updating. The real question is, do I want to install any of these updates from Asus? Any disadvantage that you know of?
That file is the US 8.6.5.21 OTA. I lost track of the all the root methods, but I thought that Nachoroot was working with .21. I've never used OTA rootkeeper, so I can't comment on if that will work.
It's kinda odd how you are getting it now? There is a rooted version of the stock rom you can flash via CWM so that you don't have to unroot. It will have the stock kernel and you will keep whatever bootloader you have now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409584
EDIT: doaist has posted CWM friendly versions of the OTAs as well- there are much smaller files since they patch the existing rom. Look in the development forum- The OTA came out around Christmas, so it will be after that.
Thanks for the info. I'll flash the updated rom and see how it goes.

You're running an image that has different hash values than Asus original image has... that is why Asus validation does not work. Hence, you should revert back to the original image Asus provides.
This answer have been given ALOT of times in other threads already.
I rooted mine with nachoroot on the 21 update. It works fine.

Have you installed the incona tab update enhancement from the play store
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the reply, yes i had installed the update enhancement from play store.
I have now solved the problem so i thought i'd share what i found.
The problem I had:-
I was rooted, but wanted to go back to stock to try the stock OTA ICS. I flashed a stock 3.2 full package from vache's page. The one I went with was 7.006.01_com_gen1. Carried out successfully, however no updates available when doing the system update search. waited a week still nothing, even tried factory reset to clear everything out.
Solution:-
I got impatient so flashed the unstable 3.0.1 rom intending to root again.
before rooting i tried flashing other stock roms (no reason it shouldn't work i reasoned). Successfully flashed full package 4.010.38_com_gen1 (vache's page). tried OTA updates from there and it was successful!!
OTA'd to 7.006.01, then 7.014.01, then on to ICS
Conclusion:-
the difference appears to be the version of android 3.2, I can only assume that 7.006.03 isn't supported in the UK where as 7.006.01 is. If i'd flashed that one in the first place I assume the updates would have worked.
Hey, can you point me to the files and instructions on how to get this done? I rooted it to 7.006.05 long before using thor rom I believe. Not very familiar with the rooting game, but I'm still unable to get ICS update OTA.
FYI, Acer a500 8gb model US.

My understanding from reading around a few threads is that OTA tends not to work if you are rooted and/or running CWM. Not sure on process of un-rooting as i've not done it. But i'm guessing one solution would be flash a stock version of same rom, then do OTA updates.

If you rooted via CWM its really straight forward, I followed these instructions

just follow 2. and/or 3.
I want to keep root and go to ics. I know I need to install ics bootloader but have not found a solid thread yet, at least not one that I can flash. Anyone that can direct me to a proven method from 3.2 will be appreciated. I am rooted and gave custom recovery installed cwm.
