yeah, nothing like hearing that something is coming out on the 21st, but they REALLY mean the 22nd on the east coast.

I'm ready for all the ec05 goodness, already running it and looking forward to more updated roms.
Looks like I'll be changing roms faster than my drawers for the next week or two.... these are tuff times. ;-)

How is it compared to EB13? Any of the major bugs fixed?
Camera Sports Mode and Camcorder lag?
Browser checkerboarding?
Slow auto-rotate?
Data speeds?

Camera Sports Mode and Camcorder lag?* I never had this issue
Browser checkerboarding?* Yeah there is some when loading and zooming
Slow auto-rotate? *Seems fine to me
Data speeds? *Ec05 modem seems much better so far

I'm on bonsai 4.0, so take those answers with a grain of salt if your waiting for stock.

Thanks.
I am waiting for stock so I can see what Samsung has fixed. From what I could gather so far it seems like everything but the browser has been fixed. I'm okay with that because I use Dolphin HD anyway.

Waiting for .exe file from Sammy.

^ I'm not sure exactly what it is(rom or modem), but web pages are loading way faster than any eb13 based rom. I just hope it lasts because I seen the eb13 modem work good and then just crap out almost altogether.

Is the "Time Without Signal" bug still present? (For those already using EC05)

It is present but the developers are incorporating mkasick fix in the kernels. Bonsai has the fix.
Sent From My Evo Killer!

I can't speak for stock, but on the upcoming version of SRF, there's absolutely no checkerboarding... even with Flash 10.2. Then again, I'm not using the stock browser...
And, the TWS bug is fixed thanks to mkasick.

Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

Only the stock browser has checkerboarding, according to my tests anyway.
I am on DI18 until Samsung releases .exe or I get the OTA.

I've been running bonsai for a while now on ec05 and its awesome. Gps locks in 5 seconds, data is faster. Its a good update. The only thing that wasn't fixes is the tws bug and The checkerboarding on stock browser.

I don't use it either, I was just curious. No biggie.

Think Samsung will release an .exe to go from any version to EC05? I'm still on stock DK28.

Sprint ROM laggier than Eris?

Has anyone noticed that the 2.1 roms based on the Sprint leak are slower and laggier than the ones based on the Eris leak? I notice this especially in the keyboard, even with a fresh wipe.
Am I doing something wrong?
my new rom coming out is around 82mb optimized WITH sense and all that good stuff.
Some of the sprint roms that have been made have the new xda keyboard with voice function. I noticed that lags way more thann the stock one without voice.

The IME helped the keyboard lag, but not the overall lag.
The Sprint-based ROMs are slower than the Eris-based 2.1 ROMs and perhaps even slower than the optimized 1.5 ROMs.
Am I the only person noticing this? I can't be, can I?
One can only hope that this is the reason Sprint is holding out on our official update

I believe they're slower (at least slower than the 1.5's) because they haven't had as much time to optimize them, or make custom kernels for the 2.1 ROM's. I'm not so sure that the sprint ones are any slower than the eris ones though
Just my theory.

i started noticing lately thats its not all about how big the rom's zip file is in terms of it's output speed. other factors play in it.

My wife is running Damage1.0 (eris) & I'm running Fresh's latest (Sprint leak). The eris is noticably faster. Opening apps is fasters, keyboard is faster....everything I've tested is faster. If I knew of a permanent fix for the gmail login issue, I'd probably be running Damage1 instead of the Sprint leaks. I didn't mind using Youmail for VVM.....
People seem to be skipping over my post in which i clearly outlined the reason why it's not as fast

It's because it's a testing release. It's easier for people to pick away at the code, etc if its not odex'd. The testers don't need to take time to deodex the whole rom.

(Q) what is the best rom to go with?

I'm on the quantum rom and i like it. but it seems like my battery is suckish. what is the best rom do you guys have in mind.
i gotta say the only thing holding me backfrom upgrading to DK28 is the lack of 4g tethering, im using syndicate rom 1.0.2 with setcpu installed and i can 4g tether (usb) and i get all day battery life (unless of course im watchin a movie or downloading on 4g). syndicate is DI18 based.
Currently, all the dk28 roms are varients on the same flavor (a theme or boot animation here, a custom script there).
[Edit] - damn cough made me hit submit :-|
You really won't see great differences in performance until the kernels are modified for oc/uv, and that won't really commence till the official release.

Tested out both releases of Quantum and latest two Bonsai for 2.2/DK28, and was on Andromeda Galaxy for 2.1/DI18.
I too felt my battery was suckish on Quantum. Liked Andromeda for battery life the most, Quantum has been most stable. However, I have now settled on Nebula Rom 1.0.5 as (IMO) it has the best features of all three sweet roms mentioned.

Knowing Samsung, not for a while. Since the nexus s is pretty much the same as a Galaxy S, however, there may be luck of an update or porting of Gingerbread to our Epics around...March, is my guess.
For the best rom...it's very difficult to say. They're all pretty simple with the DK28 variants. I prefer the Nebula Rom, but there are a lot of other styles.
If you liked the old 2.1 style, try out the SyndicateRom.
Hope this helps!

Dont even upgrade to any froyo roms.I had Syndicate on my phone for almost two months and it was the fastest rom then I decided to swith to froyo DK28 and tried all the froyo roms and I gotta say it wasnt worth it,Syndicate rom murders any froyo rom available right now.
But if you still wanna jump to 2.2 then Mammon's Bonsai 1.0.4 is the fastest but is nowhere near Syndicate, you will notice lag especially when browsing internet, and rom will keep geting slower and slower after a week or two.
Bottom line:Use Syndicate until better froyo updates come out.

[Q] New Epic, what to do?

Ok, So I just switched from the Evo over to my Samsung Epic and Not sure if i made the right move. Not a fan of Eclair(android 2.1) and I have not heard good news about the leaked 2.2 for the epic. I'm wondering whats an ideal setup on the epics. Do I upgrade to the leaked 2.2 and get a nice rom?(viperrom looks pretty decent) or do i stick with 2.1 and get a nice rom on that end?those who have a favorite tell me why and let me know some of the pros n cons.
P.S Hi new to forum
I would pick a nice 2.1 rom and wait for official Froyo to launch. There are some bugs with DK28 that are annoying as hell when they occur. None of the things that DK28 fixes are absolutely necessary, such as the much improved GPS. GPS still functions on 2.1, just not nearly as well as on Froyo.
You're kidding, right? GPS sucks on Froyo.

I ran syndicaterom for a while. It was very stable and nice. You can also pick a kernel to use in conjunction with whatever rom you use. Stock kernel is very stable obviously, but if you have concerns about battery life or something like that, or feel a need to overclock, there are kernels available that offer that. SyndiateRom comes with the Xtreme kernel if you flash the "Full" release, if I am remembering correctly. It is a very good all around kernel, although Phoenix 1.43 was always the best with regards to battery life for me.

Odin to dk28, one click root, then install bonsai rom and optionally install a theme.
With this setup my GPS works better than it has for any other phone (lock in 5-10 seconds). Flash works, and the system flies. Not many cons that I'm aware of.

Mine is spot on....running EXT4 and custom ROM
If you want working GPS and Flash support in the browser go with a leaked DK28 ROM (ViperROM w/ EXT4 is my personal favorite). GPS is better than ever on Froyo - it actually works now! Extremely well at that... There is a process for going to DK28 and making the GPS happy, as long as you follow that process you'll be in great shape. I really can't think of a reason to be on DI18, unless you need to go into a Sprint store for some reason.

Still overwhelmed, but I like your site's instructions, very thorough, thumbs up for that tip, I still am on stock rooted, but one of these days....at least this site is thorough...
I agree 2.2 is the way to go. The most of the problems on froyo can be pinpointed to a problem installing it. I've flashed froyo plenty of times and if you can get the gps steps down everything should be just fine. if your staying on eclair the overclocked syndicate rom is a beast.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I vote 2.2, I have it and haven't looked back. Its luck of the draw. Some get more bugs then others. I lucked out I guess.
Another vote for 2.2 here. My ROM recommendation is Quantum, it's well-supported and its developer is on top of his game. Some other ROMs include a lot of... gimmicks. Yeah, we'll go with gimmicks. (It slices, it dices, it automagically makes your internets faster!)
In any case, there's no real reason for Android 2.1. The leaked FroYo is stable at this point. If you're getting force closes then it probably means something went wrong during flash. If you can follow instructions then it's not difficult.

Syndicate vs Bonsai

There's been a lot of complaining over people arguing the differences of this topic under the development section, which is understandable. Being that this is the "general" section, let the smack-down begin!
I haven't tried the new syndicate 1.0.1 yet, but I am on Bonsai 3.0.1 with GO launcher EX, and I must say it is mighty smooth and fast. I like the convenience factor of not having to wipe and reinstall all the apps too.
They are both Awesome and amazing in every way possible.

I vote for bonsai mainly because it is very automatic as mentioned above. It backs upfor you and reinstalls your apps. Nothing to do after flashing except enjoy the phone. Did you flash from full EB13 first? A lot of people miss that and it causes issues like this. Also never restore system data from a di18 or dk28 even, using titanium backup (or other backups) on eb13. I learned the hard way, that causes big problems.

To many force close problems on acs. I've loved bonsai since dk28. Very easy install too. Benchmarks are just about the same. I ran alot.of benchmarks on acs 1.0.1 and bonsai 3.0.1 and bonsai won by an average of like 10 points on smartbench. Pretty much tied on the other benchmarks
