There's been a lot of complaining over people arguing the differences of this topic under the development section, which is understandable. Being that this is the "general" section, let the smack-down begin!
I haven't tried the new syndicate 1.0.1 yet, but I am on Bonsai 3.0.1 with GO launcher EX, and I must say it is mighty smooth and fast. I like the convenience factor of not having to wipe and reinstall all the apps too.
They are both Awesome and amazing in every way possible.

Also, just flashed from the Deodexed EB13 w/ Genocide. I thought that was nice and smooth - no issues with it. Well... holy ****. Hats of to you guys - both the Bonzai team and the ACS team.

Just for safe measure, I re flashed stock eb13, re-rooted, and flashed syndicate. The market is crashing in landscape. Going back to Bonsai.
I vote for bonsai mainly because it is very automatic as mentioned above. It backs upfor you and reinstalls your apps. Nothing to do after flashing except enjoy the phone. I have used many roms and I can say bonsai is far and away the best I've used. In all fairness I haven't used syndicate in a while. IMHO you can't go wrong with bonsai

Did you flash from full EB13 first? A lot of people miss that and it causes issues like this. Also never restore system data from a di18 or dk28 even, using titanium backup (or other backups) on eb13. I learned the hard way, that causes big problems.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
To many force close problems on acs. I've loved bonsai since dk28. Very easy install too. Benchmarks are just about the same. I ran alot.of benchmarks on acs 1.0.1 and bonsai 3.0.1 and bonsai won by an average of like 10 points on smartbench. Pretty much tied on the other benchmarks

I just boot to recovery and recover that image I have of another rom with MNS.. takes like 5 miuntes all together. The image I have is unlinked to any google account and is stripped of a lot, just meant for MNS and wireless tether.
i never knew how to get the latest version for the stock of android hehe

If you are using apps2sd then you might be able to do a quick switch. Make a nandroid backup and that will let you go back if you don't like the new ROM. The apps2sd will mean all your apps are still there.
However, sometimes you even have to wipe the apps off depending witch ROMs you are switching. If you get an app called Titanium Backup then you backup your apps and data. However, the free version makes re-installing a little bit of a longer process but it isn't bad.

and also it saves your settings going from 2.1-2.1 so all your settings should be how you set them before <3 hooray for convenience!
and from my exp. (ive used both) i would say damage is a bit faster, but im going with darch because you will love the way it looks, has the glossy blackish look rather than just straight up stock. but althought i am experiencing a bit of lag, it will only be a matter of time before darch comes out with a fast enough rom and i can live with the tiny bit of lag that it does have, and i absolutely hate lag. but overall i chose darch, but i do appreciate the work of all you amazing dev's <3
so Darch vs flipz 2.02b?
we should make a new thread and have a poll with these main 2.1 builds....
Chad
I'm back on Damage, DarchLegend went a little insane for me, four times over, no idea what went wrong, when I finally got it up and running once I got my first phonecall the ROM basically fell apart, force closes, couldnt answer calls, everything lagged. Luckily Damage was backed up so I just went back and re situated.

It depends on you. Darch rom is based off the HTC Legend rom. which gives you some new features that roms based off of the Eris or just 2.1 its self dont have.
I use darch rom for a daily use.. Looks like v4.1 fixes all my problems not as much lag as before..

Ok, So I just switched from the Evo over to my Samsung Epic and Not sure if i made the right move. Not a fan of Eclair(android 2.1) and I have not heard good news about the leaked 2.2 for the epic. P.S Hi new to forum
I would pick a nice 2.1 rom and wait for official Froyo to launch. There are some bugs with DK28 that are annoying as hell when they occur. None of the things that DK28 fixes are absolutely necessary, such as the much improved GPS. GPS still functions on 2.1, just not nearly as well as on Froyo.

I ran syndicaterom for a while. It was very stable and nice. You can also pick a kernel to use in conjunction with whatever rom you use. Stock kernel is very stable obviously, but if you have concerns about battery life or something like that, or feel a need to overclock, there are kernels available that offer that. SyndiateRom comes with the Xtreme kernel if you flash the "Full" release, if I am remembering correctly. It is a very good all around kernel, although Phoenix 1.43 was always the best with regards to battery life for me.

Odin to dk28, one click root, then install bonsai rom and optionally install a theme.
With this setup my GPS works better than it has for any other phone (lock in 5-10 seconds). Flash works, and the system flies. Not many cons that I'm aware of.

Mine is spot on....running EXT4 and custom ROM
If you want working GPS and Flash support in the browser go with a leaked DK28 ROM (ViperROM w/ EXT4 is my personal favorite). GPS is better than ever on Froyo - it actually works now! Extremely well at that... There is a process for going to DK28 and making the GPS happy, as long as you follow that process you'll be in great shape. I really can't think of a reason to be on DI18, unless you need to go into a Sprint store for some reason.

Still overwhelmed, but I like your site's instructions, very thorough, thumbs up for that tip, I still am on stock rooted, but one of these days....at least this site is thorough...
I agree 2.2 is the way to go. The most of the problems on froyo can be pinpointed to a problem installing it. I've flashed froyo plenty of times and if you can get the gps steps down everything should be just fine. if your staying on eclair the overclocked syndicate rom is a beast.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I vote 2.2, I have it and haven't looked back. Its luck of the draw. Some get more bugs then others. I lucked out I guess.
Another vote for 2.2 here. My ROM recommendation is Quantum, it's well-supported and its developer is on top of his game. Some other ROMs include a lot of... gimmicks. Yeah, we'll go with gimmicks. (It slices, it dices, it automagically makes your internets faster!)
In any case, there's no real reason for Android 2.1. The leaked FroYo is stable at this point. If you're getting force closes then it probably means something went wrong during flash. If you can follow instructions then it's not difficult.
Hey XDA,
Its been a long time since I last did anything with my phone. Used to run Baked Snack and some other ROMs that were on here. Got a replacement phone and have just been running stock froyo for the past 6 months or so. I can't believe how many roms there are now for the Epic! None of them look familiar either.
I've been getting an itch to start flashing again. I was hoping to get some suggestions for what I should try next. Are there any good ones that you might recommend? I've been following MIUI for a while but am worried about reliability. As you might guess, a stable rom is most important to me. Battery life, and clean looks are also important. I don't need fancy backgrounds or startup animations. Just something as close to barebones as possible.
Any suggestions will be appreciated--TIA!
Srf 1.2 then flash the genocide 2.0 kernel in the same flash session. I'm sure many will give you this suggestion

SRF 1.2 I use Revolted kernel w/it Sleek...clean...fast...no FCs. Many out there, but I'm stuck on this one. I think they're working on 1.3.
I like Go Green too, just the select menu was hard to read. But it's nice nonetheless. I think I ran that on EH17. SRF is EC05 based.

If you want no problems and basic rooted stock then you want either ReRFS ROM or odin in EC05plus.

Whichever you decide, please read through the entire thread for that ROM in Development so you can see what issues might pop up and what was done to resolve them.
Bonsai 4.1.3 has been my go-to ROM. It's as close to perfect as I could imagine, really really stable, great battery life, and overall just reliable. It also does this without replacing your sounds with stupid robot noises, heavy metal guitars, or putting some ridiculous theme on your phone.
You'll have to google "epic 4g bonsai" to find the site, it's not available in the dev forums here.
I like stock for the most part, EH17

There are lots of roms, and neither are the best. I beleive roms are NEVER stable. They always need to be modified, they always need to meet standards. No best ROM.. Period. But if I were to choose, MIUI would be the best LOOKING but not the best that's working.

So far I have used SRF, Reborn, ACS Bambozzled, ERA Viper, and I am currently using Simply AOSP. I have loved each Rom I have used, each have their quirks. Usually the GB runs give me a few headaches... like restoring with titanium screws up my app space, GPS is up and down, etc. I would recommend using an EC05 Rom until things are fully stable with GB (especially CM7 Selfkang), just to save yourself a few headaches.

I've only used a few. Stock, Viper (apocalypse, frozen, and synergy), and urban legend (fury and regen). I'm currently using Urban Regen 1.1.1, with Rodericks genocide 2.0 kernel. Lately, I try to stick with EC05 based ROMs and kernels for their stability and the number of options out there for EC05. I'm relatively new to rooting and flashing so i don't know everything there is to know about it, but I'm learning fast. I'm definitely not new to tech, holding a few IT certifications, a degree in CNT and presently in school working on another degree, so my knowledge of operating systems (especialy linux ) is helping me learn much faster. The best advice i can give you, is to read the forums, ask questions when you can't find an answer (no matter how stupid you think the question is) and to try a little of everything until you find what you like or learn how to do it yourself, lol. There are tons of guides, wikis, and awesome developers who are willing to help you as long as you try your best to help yourself as well. You'll get the occasional put down, or get called a noob, you'll make mistakes and feel dumb, but everyone does so don't worry about it. Just try to remember that pretty much any question you can think of, any problem you run into, and disaster you cause, has probably happened to someone else before and has probably been addressed more than twice on these forums, so do some searching before you just start posting "HELLLLLLP MEEEEEEE!!!" Another piece of advice i can give you, that i did with my first phone, is get a decent size and class sd, read a guide on how to dual boot ROMs (i think theres even an app now that does most of it for you!), root your phone, leave the stock ROM on your phone, flash a good kernel that supports dual booting (check out genocide 2.0). That way, you can try out new ROMs as much as you like and always be able to revert back to stock when you need some stability or if you run into bugs.
Good Luck!

Which scripts you running? Just curious, been thinking of flashing back to SRF.
I've been rollin' with IAP Rebirth the past several weeks. Awesome ROM, but I've been getting reboots. Haven't even touched the Supercharger scripts and it's the most responsive ROM I've used.
I was on Legendary and then SimpleROM but I'm ready for a change as long as it is stable (like the ones I just mentioned). I tried reading the threads but they keep changing and some are very long.
Just wondering if someone knows since I have been on only this 2 ROMs for nearly a year.

Try out CM9.
It's pretty popping fresh.
Also, MIUI.
And in the future, we discourage best ROM threads.
Depends on how you use your phone. CM9 beta 0 is stable for a daily ROM. But If your a power user like on your phone nonstop then you will find yourself wanting a charger.
Also gotta ask the question to you want to move to the MTD side.... best bet is to read up on everything, then test out different roms till you find one that you like.
Sent from a CM9 powered Epic.
If you want a good stable Rom the marcusant rom version3 and the shake and bake theme are a nice combo. Also cm9 is also kinda nice but its still in beta
Threads are long because everyone is trying to butt hurt everyone else, and there are a lot of useless postings (such as this one). Just be sure whatever rom you use has the appropriate thanks, documentation and GPL reference or you will get blasted even as just a user.
Just try them all, go nuts, have fun! Just be sure to do whatever you can to brick your device so you can provide yourself with the logical reasoning to upgrade as quickly as possible.
Sent from my, is it safe to claim, personally semi-tweaked (but not shared) and still therefore kanged??? sammiEpic running some CM9b0 shiznizzle.....
Thanks to all that offered good advise and options.
And to clarify a few points:
1 - I did not ask what was the best ROM (I know better than that).
2 - I respect the advise of the users here and do not wish to try them all. It simply takes too much time when all the ROMs say to wipe everything clean including data. It's a very long process putting everything back the way it was. The last 2 updates I did did not update my programs so I had to install them all manually plus their data. And as some of you may know, restoring from backup is not always a good thing to do.
So... I really appreciate those that provided a few options for me to try. Will do soon. And btw I alway provide feedback to the thread on the ROMs that I try. Comes from being a technology administrator for many years.
Thanks again,

In order for someone to answer this you have to let people know how you use your phone. Are you hooled on the Touchwiz interface? Then it would require some work and getting similiar apps for CM7, CM9 or any other AOSP ROM. If you just want to update to the newer firmware and like how your phone is running now, then Sleeper or CleanGB. If you need more app space then you want to go to an MTD ROM like CleanGB MTD. At least read the OP's of any ROM you are considering to know all the features.

Just wondering if someone knows since I have been on only this 2 ROMs for nearly a year.

CM9 ICS
I've been using CM9 ICS since alpha 2 and I had to Odin my phone back to stock for some weird reason. It was so strange seeing the stock interface after using ICS. "I can't swipe notifications away? What is this vertical scrolling? Bloatware???" So yeah, beta 0 seems good enough for me for now, plus the battery life is way better than stock.
CM9 for sure. The only real issue was the phantom voicemail but there is a fix for it now (as of today).
Loving the CM9. It's like a new phone!

Tried CM9 and it was allot more stable than I expected. However it still needs work and is not as solid as stock. The lag overall started to annoy me along with other things like garbled text messaging, 4G issues, occasional reboots, and no visual voicemail, but the devs are doing a great job.
I am on Clean GB right now and will jump back to Thunderhawk when Random updates to El30.
Dont flame my opinion, please.

Hmm, No. I tried the RC0, but not the Beta. I think I am picky and just need everything to work as good as stock or better.
