[APP REQUEST] Automatic WiFi Scanner w/ Sync - Desire Themes and Apps

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone had heard of an app which does the following or would perhaps like a good idea for an app if it doesn't exist (i have looked everywhere):
- Automatically scans for open WiFi networks
- Tries to connect to open networks
- if connection successful + ping google.com successful (to see if internet available) ELSE add to list of networks not to try again
- THEN once connected run auto-sync to download emails etc
- also have the option to run other applications on connect which require sync like news RSS, facebook feeds etc.
- after sync switch off or sleep WiFi for x minutes
I would find this immensely useful when I am on holiday in other countries. Basically its a massive pain keep getting my phone out to scan for available networks (even with notification) and try each of them then sync everything after. With the app described above you could just leave you phone in pocket and let the app do all the work.
Does this make sense?
Thanks in advance
Bridgstfer.

Get a data plan and stop robbing peoples connections or wifi hotspots or you can just do it all manually. It's not that bloody hard really.

I think you might have missed the point:
...immensely useful when on HOLIDAY (ie no data) in other countries....you could just leave you phone in pocket and let the app do all the work (ie connecting to free wifi hotspots and syncing when available)

XDA Atom - My GPRS connection start by itself! How stop it?

Hello.
I need your help since my Atom is lauching the GPRS connection without any instruction to do that.
I closed all the resident memory programs but still go on dialing!
How can I avoid the connection start withouth promptin it or only if I need it?
Thank You
Regards
There must be some program you have installed that's initiating it. I would suggest that you did a hard reset (after backing up your documents and contacts, of course) and then install program after program, testing a while after the installation, to see what the offenting app is.
same problem for me
Moved to proper section
Main reason
EMAIL - once an account is setup it will auto connect to internet for new email, default every 2 hours, but Windows Mobile do not disconnect GPRS after trying to get new mails.
ACTICE SYNC - if you have setup connection to EXCHANGE SERVER eg, google push server.
wil also auto connect all the time
Down side of Microsoft is that they didnt design to disconnect after trying to get email like Symbian(Nokia) do. so other manufacture will offer to design their comm manager to disable data auto connection but O2 & Quanta didnt go to the extend to offer this function back then.
Download NoData from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467813
toggle to DISABLE GPRS
this will stop auto connection to GPRS but it may stop receiving MMS as MMS also require GPRS connection.

Weather report without GPRS

Hi guys!
Already asked in other sub-forum, but no reply there, hopefully more luck here.
Since GPRS and other mobile internet is expense in Belgium, isn't there an application that loads the weather report for the next week, everytime you sync your Touch Dual (or whatever HTC...) to your PC/Laptop. That way, you wouldn't have to use GPRS to get weather reports.
In my case it would drastically lower my gprs cost(since I sync every day!), and still have the eye candy of all those fancy apps you guys made here!
Grtz & thx very much!
in my country gprs is also so expensive..so I need it too..anyone can help us?
try this
1-turn on flight mode
2-sync your phone
3-tap update on weather app you use
Doesn't it work to turn on wifi (if your phone has it) and instead of using GPRS, it loads the data over the wifi? I know I've done this with Google Maps, and many other programs since I don't have a data plan.
Spb Weather does exactly what you want.
In the options you can specify to sync when docked and otherwise to sync only manually.
I'm using it since a while and had no sync through GPRS till now.
Don't know where it is getting it's info from or how, but i have just put Mobile Shell on a Himalaya, XDA II, and put a pay-as-you-go SIM in it with no credit.
Left it for a while after telling the weather bit where i am and lo and behold the weather forecast has updated.

WM 6.1 - Disable Auto-connect to GPRS/3G ?

Hi, I have two apps that are using local 127.0.0.1 IP to communicate.
Each time the two apps are connecting to each other WM is opening an GPRS/3G/DATA connection !
This is a pain as DATA connection are very costy ! Then I have to manually close the connection and the two apps are still talking together.
So, is it possible to prevent this auto-connect "feature" :
- if the IP is 127.0.0.1 (ie. no use to open a data connection for local stuff)
- for all the softs except a white-list (ie. no soft can auto-connect except my browser or mail client)
- or when a soft tries to connect prompt a window to allow to choose the type of connection I wish (Wifi, GPRS/DATA, none ...)
Thanks
You can try using nodata from MoDaCo( http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/ ).
Using it you can keep the connections you want disabled until you need them.
Thank you that will do the job

I am new to WM 6.1, How do I achieve this for my phone Samsungi627. I installed this NoData on my phone but when trying to Toggle is says critical error.
anything that i need to do before installing this?

My TD2 is going online (EDGE or HSDPA) by itself!

I have the following problem: my HTC Touch Diamond 2 (from T-Mobile) is going online and stays online for hours until I notice and disconnect.
I can't be sure, but it's possible that Mobile Shell is the reason, because I don't have any other running applications. Is this maybe a built-in feature of TD2?
Is this a known issue? Any hints or tips? (ActiveSync and GMail are set to synchronize manually).
yes look in the Options of mobile shell
its the weather Programm that uses these autoConnects all the time
ive had the same "problem" as well...
if u have SPB Traveler too, then uve to look in every single programm option
SPB Traveler options
SPB MObile Shell options
SPB weather options
take out the automaticly updates...
fixed =D
I've checked Windows Update and Weather Update. Both are off.
I've found that I have a suspicious widgetmanager.exe running on my PDA. Is this coming from Opera? I'll kill it and see if it helps.
Maybe it's the (totally useless) PushInternet service of Opera.
Here's how you can stop it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532948&highlight=stop+pushinternet
But the problem is that sometimes you want to browse some saved pages.
There are some saved pages that still require connection to update something.
And the phone goes on-line automatically WITHOUT asking the user. This annoys me a lot, since I have a fixed traffic amount and I don't want to spend it unawares.
I solved this issue by modifying a letter in my default connection.
This way, when the phone tries to go on-line automatically I get an error message saying it cannot connect. Now, depending on my needs, I either dismiss the message to stay off-line or fix that modified letter to go on-line.
To modify your default connection:
Settings tab, All settings, Connections tab, Connections, Manage existing connections, Click your default connection, Edit, Next, (here change the "Access point name" -- my last letters are .ro and I delete the "o"), Next and then Finish.
Maybe this solution is a bit rough but it works for me and I'm happy .
What's the problem? I have always a data connection open on my phone, 24 hours a day. You only pay for the amount of data, not for staying online.
I was referring to traffic.
The phone transfers data without asking my permission.
> You only pay for the amount of data, not for staying online.
The phone is connecting to the Internet automatically upon necessity. The fact that the connection is open means that some program or service had the necessity and transferred the data (at least one byte, but likely more). So the traffic is not zero in this case.
Another reason is that I pay 7EUR per every day that I connect to the Internet + the traffic price.
And reason #3 is that I want to know and control what my phone is doing and not otherwise.
I'm still observing the situation, this widgetmanager.exe is likely the source of the problem, but can't confirm it 100% yet.
Try SPB Wireless Monitor, then you can see whats connected, amount of traffic etc.
No need of buying, just use the trial for 15 days
Thanks for the tip. I have used it. That's how I know about widgetmanager.exe downloading something. I keep it killed and wait for the problem to reappear. After 24 hours I'll know if it's widgetmanager.exe or not.
I like your solution and I am going to give that a try. Thank you.
widgetmanager.exe was the reason. It comes with T-Online ROM. Thank you everybody for your help. Issue closed.

[HowTo]auto update weather/stock data when sync with a PC?

So far I don't have a 3g plan. I would like to update the weather/stock data everytime the HD is sync with my PC with internet.
I can do this manually but it's better if it's auto-refreshed.
(it would be even better if the data gets refreshed every certain minutes when sync)
no one knows it? no one needs it?

One possible solution would be to setup your device to download weather/stock automatically (for example every hour) and disable 3G/internet activity by using NoData app.
This means your device won't be able to auto-update when not connected via activesync as you have disabled 3G activity but will be able to update when connected via activesync. Just toggle off internet & WAP on NoData

thanks, I tried this myself.
but every time I open the weather tab, I got an error msg says that there is not i-net connection. this is a bit annoying ...
the quickGPS works much better, when I sync with a PC, it starts it self and fetch the data in background from i-net.
yeah! anyone knows how to get rid of that message everytime i go to the weather tab?
Anyone have a better solution out there yet. I would also want the Stocks and Weather update with every Sync. I know it does it when the Weather Tab is selected, I would just rather it automatically update even if left on the home screen on every Docking.
