[Q] As a noob, installing the Ginger Yoshi on HTC Magic. - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I Just downloaded the Radio Switcher Tool(htt://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=677045) and I am now focusing on installing the Ginger yoshi ROM on mt HTC Magic which i Rooted earlier today with Amon_Ra.
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.76.2007 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-6.35.08.29
Thats how it looks when i enter the fastboot mode. I got it all backed up, and with the RadioSwitcher i can easily change the SPL and Radio so it matches what the Ginger Yoshi requires.
My question is: if i change the SPL and Radio so that it matches Ginger Yoshi requirements, first of all what files are important for me to download from
http://www.mediafire.com/?cabub1g3y37gj
in order to "install" this ROM. And how do i do it once i know which files to download.
Thanks a lot, i am as you can see all new to this.

Once you have the new radio and SPL installed:
1) Wipe your phone (a variety of ways to do this)
2) Copy the "ginger yoshi 1.0 RC5.2.zip" and "32a kernel.zip" files to your phone
3) Flash/install the ginger yoshi zip file in Recovery mode (first).
4) Flash/install the 32a kernel file to your phone in Recovery mode (second).
5) Reboot!
That should do it!

32b, 2.2.1 vodafone update
hello,
i have the official 2.2.1 (hboot: 1.33.0013, radio: 2.22.28.25), i cant flash rc6 before i did not downgrade to 1.5 in cause of following, wright?
"Note: The new OTA 2.2.1 update is going to restore original recovery after each boot, and will delete the custom one. (This happened to me) I tried flashing ROM before it was deleted and got Boot loops, no matter what ROM I used." "What helped me was flashing Android 1.5, then updating it to 1.6, and from there installing custom ROM." http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10532992&postcount=1
do i have to create a goldcard after it?

which kernel do i have to install whenn running 2.2.1 from vodafone? this one:

Your radio and SPL are fine to run Yoshi's, just read through the first post in his ROM and it'll tell you that. Don't change your radio/SPL unless you absolutely have to so that you don't end up coming back here asking for help because you bricked your phone. No offense, but it's better left alone.

I'm not sure if you need to flash the kernel. I want to say I didn't need it with the 2825 radio. The kernel built into the ROM should work with it.

New to Magic on Rogers.. what do I need to know?

Ok, I will admit I am a total noobie with Android based phones. I have been on the Blackberry platform for years.
I just got my magic yesterday.
To my knowledge it has not been updated yet.
How would I go about seeing if it can be rooted? And what is the best way to get it rooted, if it can be?
I am an IT guy, I am not afraid to try things out, so give me some steps and I will do them ASAP.
Thanks!
1st, boot the phone by holding the back & power buttons. Tell us EXACTLY what is on the first 5 lines at the top of the screen.
From there you will know if your phone is rootable...
It says:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0009 (SAPP50000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17

does this help?
Those specs were the same as mine. I used the Relentless Rooter software to root my phone. It was free then but you now have to pay (you can find it in the app forum).
You can also use the unlockr one click method. Check his site and video. Remember to use the instructions for 32A. Some posters wrote that they could not use this method (flashrec) to flash the latest Amon_Ra recovery and the solution was to shorten Amon_Ra's recovery's name. I know this sounds foreign language right now, but I do suggest you read and research a bit, specially the comments posted under the unlockr's method.
Once rooted, you can find various custom Roms for 32A in the developers section. Make sure the Rom fits your radio and SPL.
Oh, once rooted, I would suggest changing your SPL 1.33.009 to an engineered SPL, like mine (I use 1.33.2010). You can do a search at google or within the developers forum to find out why.
CONSIDER YOURSELF EXTREMELY FORTUNATE, you have a HTC Magic with an OLD non perfected SPL. Hell it isn't even a protected SPL you can load custom roms right away without having to flash a a new SPL.
HTC Magic with that SPL are becoming rarer by the day.
I would look into what ROMs you're interested in, if you want a 1.6 ROM, I would recommend Cyanogen 32A Port or Amon_RA's 1.6 ROM.
If you don't need 1.6 and like Sense UI (I suggest youtubing Sense UI and Stock Android to see which you prefer), CursorDroid's Sense UI ROM is in my opinion the BEST ROM available for the HTC Magic.
Cyanogen and Amon_Ra's ROM will work with your current SPL (I believe). While CursorDroid's requires you to flash the SPL and Radio of your phone. Which is a bit intimidating for novices but if your well prepared and pay close attention to instructions it's easy.
Thanks to all, I used some simple instrutions.
I now have:
6.35.10.18 Radio
1.76.2007 SPL
And I installed the CursorSense32A-1.2.6.1 rom.
This is way better.

[Q] ROMs compatible with MT3G 1.2?

I posted this in Development by way of ignorance. so I am posting in the correct section this time. hopefully someone will take pity on me.
Hey guys. sorry if this has been asked before, but im just needing a little clarification. i just rooted my MT3G 1.2 and loaded CM6 stable ROM from Cyanogenmod's site. it is a great ROM, but im looking around for a vanilla 2.2 or 2.1 ROM and don't really know much about compatibility compared to other MT3G phones.
How am i supposed to know what ROMs on this site work for MT3G 1.2 and which ones don't?
The devs include supported radios in their ROM thread. They'll also usually have it listed in the thread title. I will warn you that there aren't many.

thanks for the info. at the moment my radio says 2.22.23.02 so i dont really know what ROM works with it when i only usually see 3.22 and 6.35... sorry. im just really ignorant when it comes to flashing.
They'll say myTouch 1.2 specifically. The 2.22 radio is normally a 32B radio but that's where the 1.2 is unique. It uses a 32B radio with a 32A board. Worse case scenerio that I've seen so far if you flash a ROM that isn't compatible is that you'll either start booting and it'll never finish, the touchscreen wont work, or you get thrown into a boot loop. All 3 are fixes by flashing a compatible ROM. I tried CM 6 and was unsatisfied with the performance so I downgraded to CM 5.0.8 and its worked pretty well for me for about 3 months now. Whatever you do, do not try flashing a different radio or SPL as you'll most likely end up with an expensive paperweight.

thank you very much for the info. at this moment, i am re-installing cm6 to see if it fixes a problem im having with Google Listen. if it does not, i already have cm5.0.8 on my sd card ready to be installed. i will keep an eye out for any new ROMs that work with this phone.
I really do want to try the Rogers 2.1 ROM thats out there right now, but im very scared of loading it without confirmation that it will work.
Rom Bible
Check the Rom Bible,
It has a list of the roms that have been used on our devices. I have used Chromatic, CM and Complete Eclair. As far as vanilla goes, try just flashing the fender stock rom and re-root with the Universal Androot application. This may be vanilla enough for you. I did that and it was too vanilla and settled on Chromatic 4.5. Although I am anxiously waiting for either Cyanogen or Chromer to get the Nexus One update loaded in. Good luck buddy it's rough out there for us MT3g1.2 guys. Oh, Dont use any Rogers rom's this will diffently mess with your phone. I was lucky enough just to experience boot loop but come to find out it could have easily been bricked.
Edit: by the way, I have been having trouble with the Rom Manager when it comes to flashing roms. I use Rom Manager for the back ups and restores. But when it comes to flashing a new rom use the RA Recovery 1.0.7G it works all the time. Otherwise you will get a Status 7 installation aborted.

thanks a lot for that advise. i did have a fender mytouch that bricked from goldcard error. i do agree that it was too vanilla for any real use. i just personally am getting a little tired of ADW. when you have something good for too long, it gets boring, but i by no means dislike it and will use any ROMs that have it. I will be checking on Chormatic right now to see what its like.
also, i always go into recovery for installing ROMs now. I usually also use Nandroid from the ClockWorkMod recovery to backup

So did you use the AMON Recovery so that you could get the 32a Cyanogen ROM? I ask this because when I use the ROM Manager user interface and use the "HTC/Magic(GSM)" recovery then my MyTouch 3G 1.2 will not boot into recovery mode at all but I can download 32A ROMS. However when I use the "ION/MyTouch 32(GSM)" recovery manager I can boot into recovery and I can download 32B ROMS. However the only ROM Manager ROMs I can downolad via the user interface are 32B ROMs. Clearly I have a 32A phone so I can run 32B ROMs but I believe it will not use all of my memory so I am going to try and manually load 32A ROM HTC/Magic(GSM) while running the the 32B recovery ION/MyTouch 32(GSM). I am however wondering if your running the AMON Recovery so that you could load the Cyanogen 6.0.0-DS 32A or if you are running the Cyanogen 6.0.0-DS 32B.

See my fourth post. You can't run any ROM's that are specifically for 32A or 32B phones. The myTouch 1.2 is a hybrid and can only run ROM's specifically made for it. You don't have to use ROM Manager to download new ROM's. You can go to www.cyanogenmod.com, register for an account, and then go to their forum to download CM 6.0.0-DS and GApps. Take those two files and copy them to the root of your SD card, then load up recovery and flash from there. You'll also need to do a full wipe, but I'll let you do the research on that.
P.S. - CM 6.0.0-DS is for both 32A and 32B phones as well as the 1.2. The only difference is that the 32A phones need the EBI1 kernel flashed with everything else. For the 32B/1.2 you only need to install CM 6.0.0-DS and the Google Apps .zip.

By what I've experienced, that's not necessarily true, I've flashed (specifically) 32B ROMs from the G1 section that have run great, such as a Sense ROM, CaNNon Eclair (does NOT say "MyTouch 1.2 support" in either thread).
What I'm trying to say is that its kind of a trial-and-error thing, if you see a ROM for the MyTouch3G or G1 that looks cool, make a Nandroid Backup, then flash it. If it doesnt work, so be it, if it does, SWEET!
Note my sig, i have a MyTouch 1.2
Is there a port of Froyd by villianrom team for Sapphire, LE 1.2 yet ?? Really really really would be sooooo great if someone could port that awsome rom
still looking for any ROMs that are confirmed for 1.2
checked the ROM bible, but its a little difficult to see which actually works this phone with all the radio numbers in each title.
Supported Roms
If you go to CyanogenMod's website, and look for the HTC Magic forum, it lists all supported roms for our MyTouch3G 1.2 phones. I am currently using CM6 and have no problems with it.
i just checked the pinned ROM bible again. apparently i was looking at a different post with the same title, the one pinned does have 1.2 version ROMs
im using CR_Slide2G1_v1 at the moment. some things dont work, but all-in-all, its a great copy of the MyTouch Slide OS. even the sense clock works perfectly.

When I bought the phone (used) it came with 2.2.1
I was able to root the phone by downgrading to 1.6 using HBOOT and then using Universal Androot. I then installed Amon_RA's recovery (RA-sapphire-v1.7.0) using Rom manager.
I want to install Ginger yoshi but I don't understand the information regarding the SPL and the Radio.
I tried installing an Engineering SPL using the recovery mode but this caused the phone to stop booting either normally or to recovery. I had reinstall 1.6 using HBOOT and perform the rooting process all over again.
Do I need to change anything regarding the SPL and Radio in order to install Ginger yoshi or for it to work better?
Is there a different kernel I need to flash in order for it work or work better?
I realize a lot of this is addressed in various posts but I feel I've gotten too close to bricking for comfort and I need some advice specific to my situation.
Edit: I'm not at all set on using Ginger yoshi. I'm totally open to suggestions as far as Roms. I'd prefer a GB rom that's as fast as possible.
Changing the radio on your phone will have little to no effect on anything. Changing the spl will give you a not fully functional device.
If you want to use Ginger yoshi then yo will have to flash another kernel after. They have one in their download folder. The fender one.
A lot of roms (ezgingerbread ad cos are the ones i use) use autokernel so you don't have to deal with that
Oh also I think ezgb is much faster than the others probably beause it doesn't have all the cyanogenmod features (bloat). light and fast

for 32b you need SPL 1.33.0013d and RADIO 2.22.28.25 or 27.08
for 32a you need SPL 1.33.2010 or 1.33.2009 and RADIO you will need the old radio(3.22)

Need help installing Ginger Yoshi on Magic 32a

Hello everybody, I'm new to rooting and custom roms. I'm trying to get Ginger Yoshi 1.4 but need help.
I have HTC Magic with Android 1.5, 32a, SPL 1.33.2010 (S-OFF), radio 3.22.20.17, Amon RA's recovery (sapphire version, 1.7.0).
I don't know which file from the Ginger Yoshi's Mediafire dir to install?
Should I install any patches, or are them included in 1.4?
Should I install kernel after ROM?
Is kernel change required at all?
Which one is best?
I'd apreciate any help.
Hi,
If you follow the dedicated thread >> here <<, there's exactly what you need !
You got the SPL and radio, just check it out
(hint: you have an old radio)
Edit: BTW, you probably try v1.3 first, because there's only one ROM and a kernel patch, and mostly because the battery use is lower (quoted from a few friends of mine, who tested 1.4 vs 1.3)

As I wrote earlier, I'm having problems with deciding which files (and in what order) to run. In a mediafire folder that is linked in that OP, there are eight files, plus three kernels.
So, can anyone tell me which file to use?
Code:
Ginger yoshi 1.4.zip
Ginger yoshi 1.4 fix 32a/b.zip
update build prop for 1.4.zip
Which of these kernels?
Code:
32a kernel.zip
auto-boot-2.6.35.12-farmatito-32b-and-a.zip
This is seriously sick to go through 730 pages to find any info on installing ROM...

[Q] Newbie wants to install Ginger Yoshi on Rogers Dream, where do I find SPL?

Hi,
I have an unlocked, rooted, Rogers Dream. The radio is at 3.22.26.17. I have installed Amon RA's recovery (1.70R). I have also installed SPL 1.33.2005 (after a little bit of clarification on the use of recovery). I would like to install the Ginger Yoshi 1.4 (Android 2.3.5 based) ROM.
In the requirement for the Ginger Yoshi ROM, it says that it supports the 32A machines (which I am assuming this phone is, based on the 3.22.26.17 radio), and needs SPL 1.33.2010. I have not been able to find the 1.33.2010.zip file anywhere. Is there someplace I can get this so that I can install it?
Kostas
There is no such thing as a 32a HTC Dream. Making assumptions like this will get your phone bricked. The 3.xx radios are buggy so I would recommend flashing a 2.xx radio and Amon RA's 1.70 (without the R) recovery then you can just treat your phone like a G1.
Hi,
Thanks for the reply, but now I am more confused than ever. If I flash the 2.XX radios, doesn't this make the Rogers Dream into a T-Mobile G1, meaning that I would only be able to use the T-Mobiile radio frequencies, not the Rogers/Telus-Bell ones. I would be limited to using Mobilicity and Wind as carriers?
If I do indeed retain the Rogers/Telu-Bell Bobiity radio frequencies, I would assume that I would need to reflash the Amon RA 1.70 recovery (non-R version), the radios, and the 1.33.0013d SPL? After that, the generic Ginger Yoshi 1.4?
Sorry if I sound lost, but I followed the rooting the Rogers Post 911 Wiki to get to the point where I am now, and while I had a couple of small hiccups, it went fairly well, and the phone works; its just pretty constrained by the memory limitations. I want the Ginger Yoshi on the phone to elimiate the memory size issues, but don't want to keep flashing the phone due to the potential for bricking it (I'm still pretty new to this, so I don't know if I can recover from bricking the phone, and I do like it).

I have not been able to find the 1.33.2010.zip file anywhere.

I just answered this same question yesterday over here.
Flashing your radio will not change the frequencies that your phone uses. It is a physical difference in the antenna not the software. Follow this guide:

Yes, you are correct about this.

Thanks for all of the help. I did as you recommended; used fastboot to flash the RA version 1.70 (non R), Radio 2.22.37.08, and SPL 1.33.0013d. I then loaded the Ginger Yoshi 1.4 fix 32a_b,zip, and all is fine. It is working well (and I hope it will be stable). Thanks for the patience and taking the time to post the links.
I bought this phone to learn my way around Android, and it has been an eye opener.
