[Q] ROMs compatible with MT3G 1.2? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I posted this in Development by way of ignorance. so I am posting in the correct section this time. hopefully someone will take pity on me.
Hey guys. sorry if this has been asked before, but im just needing a little clarification. i just rooted my MT3G 1.2 and loaded CM6 stable ROM from Cyanogenmod's site. it is a great ROM, but im looking around for a vanilla 2.2 or 2.1 ROM and don't really know much about compatibility compared to other MT3G phones.
How am i supposed to know what ROMs on this site work for MT3G 1.2 and which ones don't?

The devs include supported radios in their ROM thread. They'll also usually have it listed in the thread title. I will warn you that there aren't many.

thanks for the info. at the moment my radio says 2.22.23.02 so i dont really know what ROM works with it when i only usually see 3.22 and 6.35... sorry. im just really ignorant when it comes to flashing.

They'll say myTouch 1.2 specifically. The 2.22 radio is normally a 32B radio but that's where the 1.2 is unique. It uses a 32B radio with a 32A board. Worse case scenerio that I've seen so far if you flash a ROM that isn't compatible is that you'll either start booting and it'll never finish, the touchscreen wont work, or you get thrown into a boot loop. All 3 are fixes by flashing a compatible ROM. I tried CM 6 and was unsatisfied with the performance so I downgraded to CM 5.0.8 and its worked pretty well for me for about 3 months now. Whatever you do, do not try flashing a different radio or SPL as you'll most likely end up with an expensive paperweight.

thank you very much for the info. at this moment, i am re-installing cm6 to see if it fixes a problem im having with Google Listen. if it does not, i already have cm5.0.8 on my sd card ready to be installed. i will keep an eye out for any new ROMs that work with this phone.
I really do want to try the Rogers 2.1 ROM thats out there right now, but im very scared of loading it without confirmation that it will work.

Rom Bible
Check the Rom Bible,
It has a list of the roms that have been used on our devices. I have used Chromatic, CM and Complete Eclair. As far as vanilla goes, try just flashing the fender stock rom and re-root with the Universal Androot application. This may be vanilla enough for you. I did that and it was too vanilla and settled on Chromatic 4.5. Although I am anxiously waiting for either Cyanogen or Chromer to get the Nexus One update loaded in. Good luck buddy it's rough out there for us MT3g1.2 guys. Oh, Dont use any Rogers rom's this will diffently mess with your phone. I was lucky enough just to experience boot loop but come to find out it could have easily been bricked.
Edit: by the way, I have been having trouble with the Rom Manager when it comes to flashing roms. I use Rom Manager for the back ups and restores. But when it comes to flashing a new rom use the RA Recovery 1.0.7G it works all the time. Otherwise you will get a Status 7 installation aborted.

thanks a lot for that advise. i did have a fender mytouch that bricked from goldcard error. i do agree that it was too vanilla for any real use. i just personally am getting a little tired of ADW. when you have something good for too long, it gets boring, but i by no means dislike it and will use any ROMs that have it. I will be checking on Chormatic right now to see what its like.
also, i always go into recovery for installing ROMs now. I usually also use Nandroid from the ClockWorkMod recovery to backup

So did you use the AMON Recovery so that you could get the 32a Cyanogen ROM? I ask this because when I use the ROM Manager user interface and use the "HTC/Magic(GSM)" recovery then my MyTouch 3G 1.2 will not boot into recovery mode at all but I can download 32A ROMS. However when I use the "ION/MyTouch 32(GSM)" recovery manager I can boot into recovery and I can download 32B ROMS. However the only ROM Manager ROMs I can downolad via the user interface are 32B ROMs. Clearly I have a 32A phone so I can run 32B ROMs but I believe it will not use all of my memory so I am going to try and manually load 32A ROM HTC/Magic(GSM) while running the the 32B recovery ION/MyTouch 32(GSM). I am however wondering if your running the AMON Recovery so that you could load the Cyanogen 6.0.0-DS 32A or if you are running the Cyanogen 6.0.0-DS 32B.

See my fourth post. You can't run any ROM's that are specifically for 32A or 32B phones. The myTouch 1.2 is a hybrid and can only run ROM's specifically made for it. You don't have to use ROM Manager to download new ROM's. You can go to www.cyanogenmod.com, register for an account, and then go to their forum to download CM 6.0.0-DS and GApps. Take those two files and copy them to the root of your SD card, then load up recovery and flash from there. You'll also need to do a full wipe, but I'll let you do the research on that.
P.S. - CM 6.0.0-DS is for both 32A and 32B phones as well as the 1.2. The only difference is that the 32A phones need the EBI1 kernel flashed with everything else. For the 32B/1.2 you only need to install CM 6.0.0-DS and the Google Apps .zip.

By what I've experienced, that's not necessarily true, I've flashed (specifically) 32B ROMs from the G1 section that have run great, such as a Sense ROM, CaNNon Eclair (does NOT say "MyTouch 1.2 support" in either thread).
What I'm trying to say is that its kind of a trial-and-error thing, if you see a ROM for the MyTouch3G or G1 that looks cool, make a Nandroid Backup, then flash it. If it doesnt work, so be it, if it does, SWEET!
Note my sig, i have a MyTouch 1.2

Is there a port of Froyd by villianrom team for Sapphire, LE 1.2 yet ?? Really really really would be sooooo great if someone could port that awsome rom

still looking for any ROMs that are confirmed for 1.2
checked the ROM bible, but its a little difficult to see which actually works this phone with all the radio numbers in each title.

Supported Roms
If you go to CyanogenMod's website, and look for the HTC Magic forum, it lists all supported roms for our MyTouch3G 1.2 phones. I am currently using CM6 and have no problems with it.

i just checked the pinned ROM bible again. apparently i was looking at a different post with the same title, the one pinned does have 1.2 version ROMs
im using CR_Slide2G1_v1 at the moment. some things dont work, but all-in-all, its a great copy of the MyTouch Slide OS. even the sense clock works perfectly.

I've been looking around and couldn't find a single rom OPTIMIZED _FOR_ the MT1.2 (The mytouch fender and all mytouch with 3.5 MM headset jack)

Cyanogenmod 5.0.8 Eclair for Magic/Dream/Mytouch/G1. I am running it on my Fender Edition right now. Everything works great. Can download directly from Cyanogen's site.
With all due respect.
I said specifically made for the mythouch3g 1.2
With all due respect, you do not have more memory (RAM or ROM) than the standard 32A.
So any 32a rom will work on a mt3g fender ed?
Is the rooting/unlocking bootloader method the same as a standard 32a then?
thanks for any help, sorry for the off topic post
I thought the standard mytouch had 192mb of RAM, whereas the ones with the headphone jack had 288mb. Or was it just the Fender one that had 288?
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
Nope, you're correct. The MT3g 1.2 has 288mb RAM, and the original MT3g has 192mb
So will any 32a rom work on a mt3g LE?
Honestly, I've not seen a ROM just for this phone. Except the rooted stock ROM.

Then you haven't been looking hard enough
OP, you can try Cyanogenmod 6 (2.2 Froyo ROM.) I've been running it it all day and it's pretty awesome. It utilizes the extra RAM and the headphone jack works.

which version of CM6 are you running on your MyTouch 3g 1.2?
I thought the LE/32a/1.2 whatever were all identical??
Even if they're not, the memory specs are the same but no rom specifies LE/1.2, so are all 32a rom's compatible with the LE/1.2?
I dont understand why the OP thinks his 1.2 is so special/different, when I was pretty damn sure hardware wise they were the same.
well, Fender LE/mytouch 1.2 are identical - that is to say they are a 32a board, with a 32b radio, a new touch screen and the 3.5mm jack.
The 32a magic is a different thing, uses the 3.22.x or 6.35 radio, and the matchinl SPL.
both have the 288mb RAM since they use the 32a boards, but in the US the fender/1.2 is back to the 1.33.x SPL and the 32b/G1 radio w/2.22.xx

so does this mean that all 32b/G1 ROMs are compatible with the myTouch 1.2? I just got mine like two days ago so I'm trying to find out what I can/can't flash. Like could I go over to the G1 boards and flash those ROMs safely?

@Cody, I noticed in your signature for your phones that you are running CM 6.0. I have the identical phone set up. Except when I tried to flash over to CM 6.0 from Chromatic 4.1 Test 16 it damn near bricked my phone. It went into a boot loop. Long stroy short, I used my GoldCard to recover. However, I'm still interested in how you got the ROM to work. Can you help?

Yup CM6.0 RC2 works great
I had recently tried CM6 RC1 on my MYTG 1.2 (3.5mm Jack) and it went into a endless reboot loop so stayed on CM 5.08. I recently tried CM 6.0 RC2. Works awesome, silky smooth transitions as always. Better battery. Haven't yet tried Flash.
So bottom line CM6.0 RC2 works awesome on MyTouch 3G 1.2

Couple things I'm not clear on:
1. The whole 32A/32B thing. For example, I have a 32A, but I can only flash 32B roms. Flashing a 32A rom makes it hang on black screen after the HTC Magic logo.
2. I've read that the MyTouch 1.2 and Fenders are all 32A. I've also read that for the phone to work properly, the stock SPL and radio have to be used. If that's the case, how are people running the 32A ROMs in the development section that require different SPLs and radios?
I guess what I'm trying to figure out is how to flash a 32A ROM on my MT3G 1.2 phone if they require non-stock SPL/radio and when I'm reading that I can't use anything but stock versions.
I'm probably mixing up old and new info, but I'm really confused. Flashing my Nexus One is so much easier
you got it mostly right.
The mytouch 1.2/Fender is a hybrid magic. It has the mainboard of the 32a (with 288mb RAM), but the radio of the MT3G 32b/G1, a new touch screen driver, and the 3.5mm audio jack.
So, really, someone named Zinx was able to make kernel patches to make it work. These patches were applied the CM 32b kernel. So any rom based on CM5.0.7test 2 kernel or higher has the needed drivers to work with the 1.2/fender le.
the true HTC magic 32a has a different radio. This is why the dev section is mostly of 32a with old radio/new radio ROMs. the 32b phones are just G1 with out the keyboards...
Basically you need to find ROMs that have been "ported" to run on the 1.2. I can recommend Cyanogenmod 5.0.8-DS. As it works really well. Make sure you look for the DS (dream/sapphire) one.
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
So that means I'll never be able to run a 32A ROM on this phone, which means I'll never have my full 288MB RAM available?
Thanks for the replies! It's starting to make more sense to me. And here I thought I was going crazy
Currently I'm running jojotm's Minimou with pershoot's updated kernel and it works very well. It's faster than I expected it to be which is just fine for my wife. I have a Nexus One for my needs
No, the kernal or a ported ROM will let you use the full RAM.

Recovery Mode / ROM Flash help...

Searched & not found a solution...Sorry if this is in wrong thread.
I have a MT3G 1.2 (32A) --> Stock ROM, just rooted it.
Trying to install CyanogenMod ROM --> I boot into recovery mode and get the big Triangle with the yellow exclamation point above the image of a phone.
I am new to android development/hacking, and have read a lot, but can't seem to figure out what this issue is.
I can pull the battery & reboot no problem, and can boot into fastboot no problem. This ROM apparently has to be done via recovery mode, which I'm still trying to figure out, hence my issue.
I've found some awesome step-by-step instructions on how to root & do other things, but I seem to get a bit confused when trying to follow the step-by-steps of installing a custom ROM....even following: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.ph...anogenMod_5+ The issue for me is when am I entering data on the phone & when am I doing it on my PC TO the phone via shell, etc.
Any help ... a link to a tutorial I've missed or explanation as to why I'm getting the jacked icon on my phone would be greatly appreciated.

First... wrong section. Your post belongs in General because it's not Development related.
Second... you just need to flash a custom recovery. Use Amon_Ra's 1.7.0G or ClockworkMod recovery for Google devices.
By the way... I want to make this clear. You do NOT have a 32A phone! You have a 32B. Even though it says 32A, the only thing that it 32A is the amount of memory. You need 32B kernels, radios, roms, etc.
Thanks Bin...sorry for wrong section...
Question: So how on earth would I know I don't have the 32A & need to use 32B ROMs, etc.
This is the Tmobile MT3G with 3.5 mm jack (not fender edition)...When I power up with the vol down, it EVEN SAYS "Sapphire PVT 32A Ship S-On G
By that theory, I should be able to just use the Tmobile update that came out for the 32B, right? Everything I've read says that's NOT the case. Please help me understand this before I go bricking my phone by flashing wrong combo of stuff...
Thanks!

Nope... probably not. Because the normal 32B device have a different memory map and different drivers (touch screen and headphone jack) the OTA for 32B devices may not work either. Also our devices have twice as much RAM that is only available in kernels that are built specifically for 32A devices that use 32B radios. The only device like that is the one you're using. Otherwise if you use a 32B rom that isn't built specifically for your type of device you only get half of the ram. Hey, you have the same device as I do.... and I bought it (via upgrade) when it came out. Now I have to wait another 12+ months before I can do another upgrade. Obviously, I regret doing it. You have two options, flash a custom rom from the G1 section, or unroot and wait for the official OTA. Unfortunately I have lost interest in this device and am waiting to either purchase the MyTouch 4G or the Nexus S at full price when the prices drop a little. Until then, like you, I'm stuck.
Thanks again Bin! Yeah, I got this phone off ebay for $100 last month after dropping my HD2 - I don't qualify for an upgrade until end of February -- I'm hoping something really fun is announced at CES in a couple weeks. I love the nexus S, but am not getting a phone that doesn't support HSPA+ !!! Same reason I wouldn't get the HD7 -- maybe the rumors will be true & we'll get the dual-core LG Optimus 2X !!!! THat's a sweet lil piece of hardware.
Anyway, back to this phone...alright so you're telling me that none of the 32A ROMS will work on this phone either? THat might explain why I've been having trouble installing custom ROMs - I am rooted & have ClockWorkMod's recovery.
I tried flashing the newest cyanogenmod ROM (update-cm-6.1.0=DS-signened.zip and the kernel but it didn't work & I tried the 2.2.1_Frg83D-32a.zip ROM too...both locked up & I had to recover...
Not asking you what ROM I should install, but which ones have worked & you like? Are you saying the G1 ROMs will work on this phone/battery, etc.?
Or should I switch the SPL/Radio combo that my phone says it has to install other 32A ROMs? I'm really confused now.
Thanks for your help!!!
WOW, I didn't WIPE before I installed the ROM...that solved my problem...now time to play with my new phone toys....thanks again for your help!!!

No problem. Just stick with 32B roms and don't bother changing your radio or spl. Too much work for little (if any) accomplishment.
If you want to flash CM6.1, be careful of what you do to the radios / spl... you need a specific version of these to be compatible with CM (unless you start looking at specialized kernels...)
I think the CM wiki mentions which versions are compatible....

Been out of the loop for a while, need ROM advice/suggestions

Sorry if this is asked a lot but I went back a month and didn't see anything like what I'm looking for.
Anyways, I haven't really been paying attention to xda and the magic ROM scene since I flashed CM6 quite a while back. In fact it says this is my first time logging in since September. But I want something different and fresh on my phone, so I'm looking for advice on a good ROM to try. I checked out the development section a bit and I don't recognize any of them, I'm not really sure where to start.
I'd prefer a 2.2 ROM, possibly 2.3 if it runs fast/stable. Mainly looking for speed over features. My phone is as follows:
Rogers HTC Magic 32A
1.33.2010 SPL
3.22.20.17 radio
Thanks a lot.
Ezgingerbread is a good 2.3 rom. I've been using it for months without many issues
Sent from my Gingerbread on Sapphire using XDA Premium App
First Sorry for my bad english...
I hardly recomend you to try Carz CM7.. but that one is for 6.35(new radio)32a so you have to do this changes first...
1. change to 1.76.2007 SPL
2. change 6.35 radio
3. choose you favorite recovery made for this radio.. (i radder ClockworkMod than Ra's) but if you used radio switcher 4.1 it will install u Ra's.
4. wipe all you can wipe
5. flash Rom.
6. flash gapps
7. Wipe Again (nobody sais so. but i always do i with greats results)
enjoy and comment.
Gingeryoshi 6.1
I'll throw my hat in the ring for GingerYoshi here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932118
Since you have a 32a you'll have to flash a different kernel than the one that's included and if you have the fender or 1.2 you'll want to use the rattking kernel. The full list of kernels and devices is listed in the bug thread.
I've been running it for a few weeks and it's rebooted on me once (I was playing with overclock settings). It's fast and anything but bloated like CM. Much nicer running a rom that was designed for your hardware specs.

[Q] Rooted Mytouch 3G with 3.5mm jack; Need help installing Ginger yoshi

I have a Mytouch 3G with the 3.5mm jack.
FASTBOOT Specs:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0013 (SAPP31000)
CPLD-13
RADIO-2.22.23.02
Oct 21 2009,22:33:27
When I bought the phone (used) it came with 2.2.1
I was able to root the phone by downgrading to 1.6 using HBOOT and then using Universal Androot. I then installed Amon_RA's recovery (RA-sapphire-v1.7.0) using Rom manager.
I want to install Ginger yoshi but I don't understand the information regarding the SPL and the Radio.
I tried installing an Engineering SPL using the recovery mode but this caused the phone to stop booting either normally or to recovery. I had reinstall 1.6 using HBOOT and perform the rooting process all over again.
Do I need to change anything regarding the SPL and Radio in order to install Ginger yoshi or for it to work better?
Is there a different kernel I need to flash in order for it work or work better?
I realize a lot of this is addressed in various posts but I feel I've gotten too close to bricking for comfort and I need some advice specific to my situation.
Edit: I'm not at all set on using Ginger yoshi. I'm totally open to suggestions as far as Roms. I'd prefer a GB rom that's as fast as possible.
Changing the radio on your phone will have little to no effect on anything. Changing the spl will give you a not fully functional device.
If you want to use Ginger yoshi then yo will have to flash another kernel after. They have one in their download folder. The fender one.
A lot of roms (ezgingerbread ad cos are the ones i use) use autokernel so you don't have to deal with that
Oh also I think ezgb is much faster than the others probably beause it doesn't have all the cyanogenmod features (bloat). light and fast

Thank you very much for your response. I'm probably going to install ezgingerbread but I have one question first. Do you know what the ginger yoshi post means when it says:
RADIO AND SPL INFO
for 32b you need SPL 1.33.0013d and RADIO 2.22.28.25 or 27.08
for 32a you need SPL 1.33.2010 or 1.33.2009 and RADIO you will need the old radio(3.22)

That's the part that got me confused. Can I just ignore that?
Edit: Is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9987696&postcount=2 the best (only?) source for ezgb binaries?
