Xoom Europe - What are the facts? - Xoom General

Ok I'm surfing these forums and the interwebs, maybe I'm a little sleepy but I dont get the facts together.
Xoom Europe (Wifi + 3g, Wifi only)
- Who gets it first? (Which shop, which country, UK / germany)
- Price difference?
Please help me with these

- Who gets it first? Carphone Warehouse (3g), PC World/Currys/Dixons (WiFi)
- Price difference? £599 for 3G, £499 for WiFi
Not sure about Germany though.

Germany has announced the 3G version for April. Forget the pricing/carrier though.

Availability outside US,SG,HK and UK

Hi all,
as the distribution for this phone is currently limited to those 4 countries, what are the options of buying one there (an unlocked one) and then using it in a regular Network outside?
What limitations do i need to consider?
What risks am i taking?
I believe switzerland runs a regular GSM network, nothing special.
regards
Living in France, I am also considering buying it in the UK.
As far as I remember, the French and UK 3G bands are similar, and I could pickup some 3G signal with my French HD while in the UK. I guess it should work the other way around
Has anyone ordered from non US countries? Any info about the price there?
I live in France too, and I'm very interested in this phone. I wait to know if it works in France.
Waiting for it from Switzerland
It is expected to hit France in the first quarter of 2010 on SFR...
If you want it now, you'd better find a friend in the UK who will order it for you and ship it. In the UK, it retails at around 450€ inc VAT.

Nothing special if you are using GSM SIM. However, google is controlling the sale, so the location to ship the phone to must be within its restricted country list. If you know of an escrow service in Switzerland which charges you for a shipment address in US, you can bypass that restriction.

Would Atrix be released in Europe?

Would Atrix be released in Europe?
Yes, it's coming to Orange in the UK.
4G? or 3g? i am from Greece and if it comes with 3g to europe i will buy it for sure!!!!
The Atrix will do 3G in Europe. The 4G on the Atrix is HSPA+ which will probably be USA-only. It does not support LTE.
well it is coming to europe, here in France the first operator to get it will be Orange(date release march).
I doubt it will be a 4g since france will start constructing it LTE network this year, but it will be HSPDA (dunno if it is + since it is still tested by operators such as SFR) but for sure it will be 3G+ or 3.5G
Lol, there's already a site that offers the "Motorola ATRIX European Version" for pre-order. According to them, the retailprice will be $499.99 and they sell it for $399.99. Here's a link to the site: http://www.cellhut.com/Motorola-ATRIX-Unlocked-Quadband-European-Version-GSM-Cell-Phone-30366.html It doesn't look very trustworthy though

The device will be the same in the US vs Europe. The "4G" title is really just 3.5G speed. Since it supports speeds of up to 14.4Mbps, similar to the LTE speeds Verizon will have initially, the device is being marketed as 4G.
The data speeds on this thing will be limited only by the network, so if your carrier supports HSPA+ of 14.4Mbps or better this phone will be fast. Don't get confused by "4G" marketing techniques used in the US.

The HSPA+ 14.4 Mbps is not USA-only. It will work on any provider that supports it (like all providers in Canada)
Of course it must also be on the frequency bands of the Atrix (850/1900/2100 MHz). I don't know if the Euro version will be any different (900/1900/2100 maybe?)
Ah thanks for the correction, I am not that familiar with the Euro market.

I've always been a vodafone man so hopefully vodafone will get it sooner rather than later. Can't wait to get my hands on one!

You'll be able to buy it sim-free from Play.com, Expansys etc.
Expansys have a product page up now, but no price details as yet.

June!? Wow by that time we will be nearing our next release of Superphones. That is really odd considering Europe usually gets the best devices.
Well, if you don't want to wait you could always go for the similarly speced LG Optimus 2x...
Well the plot thickens!

Strange considering they issued that press release and all...
http://newsroom.orange.co.uk/2011/0...otorola-atrix-the-future-of-mobile-computing/
problem is that the atrix is seen as
a weapon against the iphone5, so the providers want to use it "fresh" against the iPhone5 launch in june/july ... so i think we will get it in april/may/june. but hopefully some european providers are smart enough and launch it in march ... because with the docks it is much more than just an iPhone5 competitor ...
... and i also want to see it free ( amazon, ph ... ) as soon as possible ... moto?
I just can't wait to see a sim-free version for sale, this will definately be my next smartphone!
Are there already rumors for a release date in Germany?
Yeah, any news about EU release, preorder?
Looks like June on Tmobile in the UK

Which, coincidentally, is when my Vodafone contract is up

Xoom 4G UK?

as O2 are going to be running a 4G trial in the UK - has anyone heard/do you think that the Xoom 3G may get an update like the US does for 4G networks?
Interesting. I didn't know that O2 were doing that!
I don't think, however, that Moto would plan anything based on a trial of 4G from one UK network. That's not to say that it wouldn't be possible to upgrade it in future, I just don't think it'll happen very soon.
Been looking around for some info on the UK version of the XOOM and was hoping someone would be able to help out.
1. Is the 3G version of the XOOM going to be locked, like the US one, or would I be able to import it to Sweden and use it with any of our 3G providers?
2. When is it being released?
3. Is there any stores/webstores in the UK that delivers/ships outside of the UK?

I'm also thinking of buying a Xoom 3G version from UK.
1. You can buy a sim free Xoom from the US also, but it won't work in our 3G (UMTS) networks, because they have the CDMA version in US. The European version should work just fine if you buy it sim free.
2. I have read it should ship on 9 April.
3. I have not found one. As far as i know, there is only one shop that will be selling the 3G version sim free and it only offers shipping to UK (but that's not a problem for me, as i have a friend there).
o2 Tweeted it last night:
We're the only people trialling a live 4G network in UK - our six sites can carry as much traffic as an entire national 3G network #asko2

The test was completed in november 2009; it would be strange to run a test for a new spectrum when the bidding is already completed

I think in this instance a test and a trial are two separate things. O2 already successfuly tested a connection but are now going to run a trial, which will probably involve real punters getting involved.

Travelling to Europe with a D821 Nexus

Hello folks,
I'm travelling to Europe next year and I'm hoping to use my D821 (international version, LTE bands check fine) in Paris, Amsterdam and London.
Is there a provider that sells sim cards that work in these cities? I found EE works in London and Paris (not Amsterdam), but maybe there's a better option. I need 4G mostly (text and calls not that much).
Thanks in advance,
Marco

Hi there! I live in the Netherlands and as far as I know can you use Vodafone in the Netherlands, as well as in the UK and France. Just keep in mind that you have to pay the roaming costs for as far as I know.
Vodafone offers 4G in all those countries since summer '14 according to an article they released.
I hope this information is useful for you.

Hello, XDA-Developers Members. Many people want to import Note 20 Ultra from USA or HK to UK. And I'm one of them who bought from USA. And I had question will it work in UK (Most will be interested to know about 5G)? Maybe this thread is useless but I'm trying to help make a decision.

This is perfect. Currently looking at buying from Ultraonlineuk (Hong Kong variant) and it's good to see that N78 is used in HK; 5g isn't in my area yet it should be in the next 3 years. Have you noticed any features that don't work on your US handset? I'm not expecting Samsung pay to work, but I don't like it as much as Google pay anyway.
Also, N78 doesn't perfectly match between UK and HK, is this a problem? (I know very little about signal bands, but would assume that there is a tolerance range?)
This is very interesting, has anybody actually done this and what where the problems.

I've ordered the n9860 model which is Snapdragon. I'll let you know how it goes once it arrives from Hong Kong. The main feature that I know won't work is Samsung Pay, but that's fine as long as android pay works.
Currently the price from HK is £700 for a new handset, so as well as faster, better battery etc, it's also cheaper.
Thanks, will keep an eye open for any replies.

A bit of further digging shows that VoLTE may not work in the UK; this seems to be a software bug, as the N10+ had this issue and was eventually patched. The discussions on this are a few months old, so it may have been solved by now.
UltraOnlineUK has just issued a refund as they don't have any stock and their supplier hasn't got an ETA on it. So far my impression of them has been good, they've responded to all my emails before and after purchase within 48h, and if you pay with paypal you get buyers protection (and pay in 3).
My review of them is that they seem legit (but worth using Paypal to be safe), and take "in stock" with a grain of salt.
Now ordering from WondaMobile, which has a very good reputation, and hopefully should arrive by next Friday. WIll update this when I receive the handset and test everything out.
Thanks for the update mate, will see what happens with you, I'm an OAP and can't afford to be messed around, I agree hat both sites look legit, please keep us updated, the N20U is a great phone but the battery life stinks.
Cheers, Pete
Ordered my N9860 from Bludiode UK - was smooth experience overall, delivered to Middle East reasonably quick, and I would use them again.
Phone arrived (shipped Monday arrived Wednesday) - definitely new. So far I've not had any problems with the phone. I get better 4g signal than I did with my A71, and everything seems to work. I've not had the chance to test 5g because it's not in my area, and I don't use Samsung pay but will try setting up a card and test it at the weekend.
I was able to install "Samsung pay (Hong Kong Version)" which was in English as that was the language set up on the phone. I was able to log in, but It may be that it won't work over here.
I ran geekbench 5, and it scored higher than their benchmark for Note 20 Ultra Snapdragon, I'm sure if I ran multiple tests it would probably average out as the same, but it's good to see everything is as described.
Just updating to say the battery life is great! My A71 had the same size battery (4500) but I'd be charging it half way through the day. Today the N20U had 7h screen on time, and still has 27% left going to bed. (14h+ since last charge)
Thanks for keeping us updated, they are currently awaiting new stock, but I will have to wait, our car may have a terminal problem, which could cost a lot of cash.
How has the purchase been, any problems? Is English OK on it, and did it have a factory screen protector, etc.

You are prompted to select a language at setup, the only app that I've seen any other language was Samsung pay (which I don't use) which was still mostly English
I've not seen any language but English since the first day of use.
It didn't have a factory screen protector on it (it's a region specific thing I believe)
Purchase was so easy; I used PayPal for protection, ordered Friday night, got tracking link Sunday at midnight (8am HK time). Arrived Wednesday via FedEx.
I've had slower amazon deliveries.
Edit: it came factory sealed with the usual accessories (fast charger, earphones and clear tpu case)

I should probably add that I don't know if 5g works because it's not in my area.
Battery life is great, I can just about get it to the end of a day when on high refresh rate, but now mostly keep the device in battery saver because I drive a lot and end up with high (8h+) screen on time. This does not have a noticeable impact to performance either (as far as I can tell)
It definitely lasts a lot better than my old A71 which on paper had the same battery size.
If there's anything else you've been wondering let me know
Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. Just hope getting our car repaired doesn't empty the bank. Thanks again.
