Availability outside US,SG,HK and UK - Nexus One General

Hi all,
as the distribution for this phone is currently limited to those 4 countries, what are the options of buying one there (an unlocked one) and then using it in a regular Network outside?
What limitations do i need to consider?
What risks am i taking?
I believe switzerland runs a regular GSM network, nothing special.
regards

Living in France, I am also considering buying it in the UK.
As far as I remember, the French and UK 3G bands are similar, and I could pickup some 3G signal with my French HD while in the UK. I guess it should work the other way around

Has anyone ordered from non US countries? Any info about the price there?

I live in France too, and I'm very interested in this phone. I wait to know if it works in France.

Waiting for it from Switzerland

It is expected to hit France in the first quarter of 2010 on SFR...
If you want it now, you'd better find a friend in the UK who will order it for you and ship it. In the UK, it retails at around 450€ inc VAT.

Nothing special if you are using GSM SIM. However, google is controlling the sale, so the location to ship the phone to must be within its restricted country list. If you know of an escrow service in Switzerland which charges you for a shipment address in US, you can bypass that restriction.

Purchasing HTC HD2

Hey there,
I am just about to purchase a HTC HD2 from China.
I have asked for the Pre configured English version, however is there any thing else that i should be concerned about before purchasing?
I looked it up on Alibaba site..
They say it comes with an international warranty, is in the box etc, but will it work in Australia, with my Optus 3G sim? (Also will it work with other carriers too?)
Any info you could provide would be great,
With thanks in advance.

I would be careful if I were you in checking out the specs. Most HTC phones sold in Asia do not come with the 3G 850Mhz Band. If I am correct, you will need this band to receive 3G services in Australia. Check here to see the specs that come with HTC phones that are legally sold in Asia. Don't confuse GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz support with 3G support. For that you have to look at the specs for HSPA/WCDMA.
I have a HD2 which I bought from Handtec in the UK. I used it on the Telstra Network for a while but it only worked with EDGE. I have since changed to Vodafone and get full 3G for half the price.
I have not tried Optus, so you may need to check what frequencies they use for their 3G Network. The HD2s from overseas doesn't contain the 850Mhz frequency so for Telstra it will only ever get EDGE not full 3G.
Vodafone uses the 900/2100Mhz
Telstra uses 850/2100Mhz, they are apparently getting the 850Mhz on their HD2 Versions released in AUS Q1 2010.
Your HD2 will definitely work in Australia with the Optus network. However if you live in a regional area and change to Telstra you will struggle as the phone has not yet been released with NextG's 850MHz compatibility. Telstra is releasing this phone very soon.
There's a thread discussing this topic already so you should read that too.
Of more concern is maybe where you're getting the phone from. I hope you've got a reputable dealer...

le_paulo's right. no matter what network you use in AUS it will work- to varying degrees. as a phone, no worries, but the 3G/EDGE issue you will need to take into account.
try this list of vendors xda forum users have used;

like i said before I used Handtec, they seem to have a good rep and it only took 2 weeks to get to darwin from the uk.

About working and not working other freinds informed you, but be careful there will be no warranty if you purchase it from china. I dont know HTC is having global warranty service in Australia or not.
I am a victim I purchased Touch HD from Hong Kong (and it is not working now) & I am living in UAE, my full value of mobile wasted as here no global warranty available. HTC is telling me to send the phone to Hong Kong.

Do you have any HTC service centers UAE? I checked with the HTC headquarters in Taiwan and their response was to first seek help from an HTC service center, and if they cannot fix it, the phone would be sent back to the country of origin. Of course, Taiwan itself has good HTC service centers. I have no idea about HTC service centers in UAE or Australia.
Don't buy anything searched on alibaba.com or china...
I know its late for me... but maybe for anyone else not... DON'T BUY ANYTHING ON alibaba.com...
A month ago, searching for HTC HD2 T9193 on alibaba... and I found many who sell it... as low as $183/unit on 2 minimun units... so I tried it and here are the results:
I have received same amount of phones that I have ordered (3) but Chinesse copies of Nokia N97s!... and the response of the person who sold it to me... "there could be a problem with the cargo company, we are waiting their response"... and here I am... a month later waiting for "the cargo company to give them an answer!"...
So if either of you want to buy anything and searched on alibaba.com... at least don't do with these people:
Moninka
www dot werternmars dot com
westernmars at hotmail dot com
westernmars1 at hotmail dot com
As others said, they only receive Western Union or Money Gram transfer (not paypal neither credit card)... and the prices are very low...

[Q] Live in US, Travelling to Europe -- Need Advice on European Carriers

Hi all,
I will be studying abroad in Europe this fall, staying in Sweden, and am looking around for a balance mobile plan. I have an unlocked Captivate so I have bands covered for the majority of Europe -- I will be looking for a sim-only plan.
I'm not a heavy user so texting/calling are not my priority. However a decent data plan would be ideal, and be gold if I could use it across the Eurozone.
Does anybody have experience with European mobile carriers? Recommendations? Advice?
No one is from Europe? :/
You'll need to do research specific to your country yourself, but as far as I know, it's quite good here.
For example in my country (poland) I have pre-paid plan where for 50 PLN I "upload" into my account I get 50 days of unlimited internet. And the 50 PLN is still to use on SMS/calling.
P.S.: I'm afraid there may not be good, affordable data plan that you can use all across euroland.
info on uk
hi!
I live in the uk and here the main carriers are o2, vodafone, orange, t-mobile and 3.
they all have a pay and go sim where you put £5, £10 on and have certain things like 500mb of data with texts/calls etc have a look at their website and see if any are ok for you!
i hope it helps!
cheers
Rob
If I were you I would change the title to Sweedish carriers, Europe is not a country it's a bit like me asking for anyone from North America to tell me about Mexican carriers lol!

That's it ... something like a flat rate for all over Europe doesn't exist.
You have to get a SIM from a carrier in that country, where you will mainly stay and it's very likely, that a prepaid card will be the best/cheapest choice.
Let's take myself as an example:
I have a prepaid card from T-Mobile in Germany, which is the cheapest choice for my needs. If I need data connections, I have two choices. Standard is, that I pay 1 Euro for a day flatrate. Alternatively I can book a monthly data flatrate for 10 Euro.
If I travel e.g. to the Netherlands I will be connected to T-Mobile Netherlands and have to pay higher roaming fees, e.g. 2 Euro data day flatrate. For day trips this is acceptable, especially when mainly used for navigation, but if I would make holidays, let's say 2 weeks in spain, I would buy a prepaid SIM in Spain, because roaming fees can empty your wallet very quickly
So you first have to look for a carrier in Sweden, where you mainly will stay and check their local and roaming conditions. If you stay longer in other Europian countries, it's a good idea to check the carriers and their prepaid offers in that countries too.

Travelling to Europe with a D821 Nexus

Hello folks,
I'm travelling to Europe next year and I'm hoping to use my D821 (international version, LTE bands check fine) in Paris, Amsterdam and London.
Is there a provider that sells sim cards that work in these cities? I found EE works in London and Paris (not Amsterdam), but maybe there's a better option. I need 4G mostly (text and calls not that much).
Thanks in advance,
Marco

Hi there! I live in the Netherlands and as far as I know can you use Vodafone in the Netherlands, as well as in the UK and France. Just keep in mind that you have to pay the roaming costs for as far as I know.
Vodafone offers 4G in all those countries since summer '14 according to an article they released.
I hope this information is useful for you.

Buy a Samsung phone from another region (aXXXy)

Hi,
I'm interested in buying a A3 (2017) phone.
The model sold in my country (France and rest of Europe) is the a320f, however I may go to Canada next year and I want a device compatible with LTE bands from Europe and Canada. The model a320y sold in Asia and Australia is the same as a320f, except it supports a few more bands (not less), including the ones I need for Canada.
Did one of you manage to buy a different model from a shop? Do you think some shops will be able to ask Samsung to send them a different model? Otherwise, did one of you succeed in importing from other region, for not too expensive, and where did you buy it? I would like to think of importing as a last solution since there will be double tax + shipping costs…
Thanks in advance,
Galaxy A320Y 2017 dual sim
Dear Yurien
This model would be availiable in Chicago USA by the end of February, I am waiting for it as well. Here is the address for you welectronics.com
Good luck to you

Unfortunately, this website only ships within the USA.
Plus, 400 USD + shipping + border taxes is high, considering it costs 330€ in France
Is there any place to buy the A320Y? When I contacted them, welectronics said they are selling the A320F. Only markets I have come across selling A320Y so far are Chile, Mexico, Indonesia, Thailand and New Zealand. I haven't found a source to get one in the US though. I really wanted this phone for its size but if I am not able to get the A320Y I may just go for the S7 after the S8 is released.
*Also don´t forget that sometimes the Data Bands change depending in the carrier!*
A320YD
Hi to All,
I too am trying to get the famous A320Y model. It is obviously better, not only in Canada but in France too because one of the major operators, Free, is developing the LTE 4G band 28(700) which is not on the A320F models.
I contacted Samsung in France and they simply said that only the A320F is available in France and that it would not be possible to get the A320Y.
I have seen some A320Y models on sale in NZ but not in Australia. They seem to be available in Vietnam but I don't speak Vietnamese and I suspect it would be difficult to buy them without some knowledge.
The 320Y I saw on NZ sites was not the dual sim model that I want.
Any more information on this would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance!

How to buy

How can you buy this phone if you live in USA? Or Colombia but have USA friends that should be able to get it to me?

Not sure how for now. It's only available for India and Indonesia for now I believe. You might want to keep an eye on aliexpress or eBay or something to import. Not really sure about if the required bands for your carriers available or not.
Yep, you should wait for Zenfone Max Pro's launch in your country.
Aramex and shoppre provide ways to order from india to a virtual address in india and then forward it to you via courier service. I've never used any of them though so any further information will be helpful from someone that did it
