I think it proven that the auto-sync with gmail is a battery killer, but I can't seem to update my calendar and contact with google unless I turn auto-sync on. bummer..
Can anyone help?
Have you treid to.... simply... update it manually?
if there is even such a button in the calender app to let you do that.. stupid huh? Or unless I am blind.
There is a refresh button at least in gmail.. but where is the button to manually refresh in the calendar app?
Or I just have to go into Setting>Account & Sync>Gmail>Sync Calender. All the time? That just really annoying and unproductive...
You could always create a shortcut for this screen in settings. Newest android has an option for that. This way it will be just 2 clicks to udpate manually.
Check out an application called Synker from Market. It is one-click-sync-all without enabling autosync.

My Droid isn't receiving my Gmail emails, I have to manually sync my phone to get my emails. Anyone having this problem? I have my phone rooted.
Do you have set to only sync when on wifi?

There's an android widget called ' power control'. Make sure the little circle icon with the circular arrows is on. Somehow I had mine turned off and it caused this same problem.

i had this same problem. Found this solution.
Try this: gmail>hard settings button>accounts>hard settings button>account settings>be sure auto-sync is enabled
I am having the same issue and I am not understanding you instructions as far as where to go to try and solve the issue.
Same issue here. I get my other emails, just not gmail. I have to manually push them through with a refresh. Not cool.

Menu/settings/accounts/gmail/
Check the sync Gmail box and/or
Contacts and Calendar if you want these sync'd as well..
Another easy way to enable auto sync is to put a power control widget on 1 of your home screens and make sure the circle with 2 arrows is enabled.
Hold on empty space -> Android Widgets -> Power Control to get the widget on screen
Nice solution @Ryphez Love it!
Hello everyone
I'm pretty new to the android-community (previously owned an ihone) and now I am wondering how i might turn off the background sync of facebook on my SE arc.
The problem is: that it seems like that the facebook app somehow constantly checks for new facebook events and get's em in my notification bar.... how can i suppress this or even deactivate this sync?
Is there anyway a tool or method on how I can check which apps do background sync and a solution on how to deactivate it?
Many thanks in advance!
Fabook app... Click menu buttin then settings then set the refresh interval to never

Hi everybody howcome when I go in calendar and try to add a event it says you have no calendar? Can somebody help me. I download a calendar app from market gave me same message.

Did you create one from Google Calendar? Log onto your gmail account and create a calendar then sync it to your phone.
Lol sounds confusing. What about contacts I saved 2 but its not on my contacts howcome?

It happened to me when I first got my Nexus S. Even though I linked gmail and the calendar wouldn't allow me to add an event until a few days after using the phone while synced to Google account.
Sync Google account and do a soft reboot and if it doesn't work right away, let it run for a couple days. Give that a try. Good luck.

I bought my wife the new Nexus S 4g today. The guy at the sprint store helper her set up the phone even thought I did not want him too. Oh well it is his job. Thing is she had never setup Google Calendar because she had a BlackBerry before that. So when I got home I setup her Google calendar but it is not syncing to her new phone. When I go to Setting > Accounts & Sync > her google account there is not a Calendar option. What do I need to do I don't want to have to reset her phone. Are there any other options? Thanks.
Odd. Calendar should be one of the defaults syncs. Have you tried running the calendar app and see if the gmail account shows up there?

I had tried running the calendar app but nothing shows up I even enter an event online thinking may bring it down but nothing. If you try to add an event on the phone it just says "You have no calendars". It is almost like the phone did not sync all the way to her account. I really don't want to reset her phone to factory default and have her set everything up again. She would not want to do that. She has already change the wallpaper all the screens downloaded apps, and changed ring tones.
I meant open the calendar app, press the menu button, press More then on Calendars and make sure the gmail account is listed there.
Also, this might be a stupid question but you're connected with Wifi or mobile network (3G, 2G, etc) right? Your phone signal bars should appear green if you're connected to Google's servers. If it's not green, you won't be able to sync.
I go to Calendar app > More > Calendars and there is nothing there, just have an Ok and cancel button. I have been on 3g, 4g, and wifi and nothing on any of them. Yes the the bars a green at the top.
I doubt you need to reset to factory so not to worry about that. Maybe you just have to wait a day or two. Either that or bring it back to the store and have them figure it out.
Might do that thanks. Hopefully it will work itself out.
You can also try rebooting the phone if you haven't already.
already tried that

maybe you should try and get the stock calendar.apk and re-install it...???
Ok I talked to Sprint and they said that is easiest way was to make sure that the phone was backed up to Google and just do a Factory Wipe. Basically wipe the phone and start over. So I did and that fixed the problem. So anyone who gets a new google phone and does not have all the google apps setup do that before you get the phone activated. I hope someone finds a better way because that is a major oversight on googles part. But everything is working great now.
Starting last night Gmail does not push any email to my phone. Any ideas what happened? Could I have stopped a process that it needs(not Gmail app)?
Did you check your settings? Not trying to be am a$$. Only reason I ask is cause Ive run the root process twice on my Note 3 so far. First time everything was fine. Second time I had to sign in tp google twice, and sync for gmail and other sync options weren't checked

I had this issue. I turned on WiFi and it started to push my emails. I turned it off and it seemed to work fine.
I tried it but it did not seem to work although I was not connected only had WiFi on.
I had this happen too. I had to go into gmail settings, and then click on my email addy. On this page go to the "manage labels" button and make sure your boxes are set to sync and notify. I use like 5 different inboxes so I had to enable sync for each one. It took me forever to find this and I was going insane trying everything to enable sync. I still have no idea what causes this activity.
I've had this happen on galaxy devices. I usually go to Gmail and clear and restore defaults then that usually fixes it. If not then go to accounts and sync and disable sync then re-enable it. One of those should work

I saw that the notify flag was off so I turned it on. I will see if that fixs the problem.

Do you keep auto sync on all the time ? If so, it seems Outlook has rather weird behaviour. While gmail is responsive to push e-mail, to which your badge will appear accordingly. Outlook on the other hand will show the badge only if you refresh inbox manually (swipe/ pull down inbox). I'll comeback to you when I come up with solution.
Edit :
Try the following,
1. Make sure auto sync turned on
2. Go to Outlook setting (within the app)
3. On notifications, select "All mail"
4. Badge count, select "All"
5. Hope it works

Notification works now :victory: Below are the steps
I have removed the outlook account and added again.
Disabled smart power saver-> and enabled Allow background running for outlook
On notifications, select "All mail"
Badge count, select "All"
One strange thing is the outlook [exchange] account isn't appearing in "account and sync" settings
1. Go to app info( by longpressing on app or by going via setting)
2. Now go to power saver option
3. Allow running in background
Done you will get notification for all the app

Below is partial solution. After below steps you have to launch the affected app frequently [for me weekly once]. I dont know any other way.
1. Disable smart power saver in settings->battery .
2.Go to custom power consumption protection->choose app->allow background running.
But the apps like gmail whatsapp doesnt have this issue. can Somebody explain??????
