i dont think that is real 4g speed i am able to get that speed just by being near an att tower
here is what my sim card from best buy looks like

I ran 5 test with Speakeasy.net yesterday at work and got an average of 4.67 Mbps but the same poor upload speeds. I don't think those are HSPA+ speeds yet.

The download certainly is, but the upload hasn't been updated yet according to AT&T. The highest speeds I ever got was 3.5 Mbps but closer to where I live I get about 1 Mbps.

i got these 4.5-5.5 download speeds (same cappy upload though) in Texas at home.
After a week the speeds are back to crap...

I'm lucky if I get over 2mbps. I'm using a micro sim and micro similar adapter tho. Does everyone else have "4g" sim cards now? Is their a noticeable difference

I put it in my phone, same speeds, the att person said that i'll get 4G speeds in a 4G area, which is super vague if you ask me. I guess ill just have to wait till my area gets hspa+

A sim card is just a sim card..its not going to give you faster speeds just because the art on it says 4G. I still use my old Cingular sim card and I get the same speeds as everyone else is getting.

You do not need a 4G sim card for the Atrix. H+ is just an improved 3G technology. The new 4G sim cards are only required for LTE and they are just backwards compatible. So the AT&T rep was just trying to make you feel better.

Again.....this it true. My understanding is there is no real advantage to getting a newer simcard. I am not invoking authority, but a bunch of VSGs (very smart guys) I used to work with said this and explained it to me, so that is what I think. That being said, I have an open mind.... But as far as I know, it doesn't matter.

I'm getting 2.7-3.8Mbs download but crappy 0.2Mbs upload, but keep in mind I don't get over 2 bars of signal in my house and that's where I've been testing. The wife has an iPhone 4 so I'll have to compare the two side by side. I've been using the Speed Test app, but I'll have to try the speakeasy.net site next time.

Even with that being the case, it certainly doesn't hurt to have a future-proof SIM card, no?

Yeah, nothing wrong with that. My point is that there are people telling others that it is "required" when it isn't. It's not going to matter, they will only have an effect if it's in a LTE capable phone so if in the "future" you decide to get one you can get the sim card then.

Tmobile's HSPA+ Network

For those of you who are confused about Tmo's HSPA+ network and making comments on it's durability, here is a link that is on Tmo's website. I figured I'd make it easy for those of you that can't seem to do research.
http://t-mobile-coverage.t-mobile.com/hspa-mobile-broadband#
p.s. I have been in a couple of cities that carry HSPA+ right now and it's download speed from the interstate is around 4mbs. Remember peeps,IT'S NOT 4G. IT'S 4G LIKE. Quoted from Tmobile.
I am in an area that does not have HSPA+ and I pull down 4mb to 5mb all day long.

No. I believe you are incorrect sir.. AT&T does have 4G network as well as Verizon implementing their LTE (Long Term Evolution) network which is also 4G. Not to mention Sprint.

I believe you. KC is pulling that however there are still parts of KC that pulls 3g and edge. I have done the speed tests on that area (3x each). I believe that areas that are mentioned to have HSPA+ are probably still being boosted seeing how the network is still kinda new. I have noticed some members posting their speed results in places like Texas and the results are phenomenal.

Yep. I can attest to that. At work, the HSPA+ speed is beautiful. I can browse endlessly while tethering.
Although for some reason at home it says I have HSPA+ yet I lose data constantly, and it goes from HSPA+ to Edge, totally skipping 3G. Either way, I have no complaints since I can just use WiFi. It has worked well everywhere else since I got the phone.

None of the technologies available now are 4G, LTE isn't, and neither is WiMax, they are not capable of 100mbps download speeds, WiMax 2 and LTE plus are 4G networks and they won't be implemented till 2013, please get your facts straight. I got these facts from the comission that actually names the technologies. Google it

That map is awful. All of downtown Baltimore shows very fast, but I know of one tower in particular that is only UMTS, not HSPA. It would be nice to see a map of the coverage by data type instead of those vague speed descriptions.

Even though the G2 has the icon for 3G, it doesn't use it. It groups it with the "H" so it's either using 3G or HSPA+. I'm using the Mobile Signal Widget to have it accurately tell me if I'm using 3G or HSPA+.

T-Mobile 4G speeds on G2

as we all probably went through, @ the beginning of launch of the G2, network speeds were terrible however I notice it has gotten much better (I get around 7-8mbps on average in the same area I use to get 1-2mbps when launched), what are your average 4G speeds now and how do you compare them with your initials speeds when the phone was launched?

The best I've seen is 4.6 and that's a good 30 miles from my house.
It's evened out for me since launch. I would get like 480kbps at work and like 8mbps at home, and now I'm getting like 1.2mbps at work and around 6mbps at home. Elsewhere things have improved too, especially in the downtown Orlando area, where I easily pull 7mbps all the time, and more areas are getting to be like this too.

i don't know. I didn't know that there was a '3G sim card'. It was my Vibrant until i gave it to my wife. I've been with t-monglol (incorrect spelling is on purpose) for about 10 years, and it seems i've gotten a new sim card in the mail about 5 years ago. Maybe I need to have the official updated 4G sim card? I'll probably need to spend that additional $10/month for to get 4G speeds.
I guess to achieve the detailed stats on out download and upload speeds, i'll have to download an app to measure it. But, it just seems my wife and I are the sames speeds. When I download a rom (90mbs+) it takes the same time on both phones.

In Portland Oregon getting average 8 mbps, to the guy who's on the rooted stock rom.
I rooted and am using the latest nightly on CM7, something I had to do though was flash a new radio, before I could never get past 3G and was always at .5 - 1.5 mbps. Flashed the new radio and consistent 4G speeds, average 7.5 mbps.

Atrix 3g

Just a question , i searched the forum and nothing. In Brazil, we got exactly the same phone as atrix 4g, except the fact it is 3g only. even the model is the same (mb860).
Someone tested, or know if there would be a problem flashing the 4g roms?

HSPA+ (what we have now) is still considered a 4G network, and AT&T has recently begun to roll out their LTE network in major cities (http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/08/atandts-4g-lte-network-is-live-in-san-francisco/ for example)
can't really blame AT&T for advertising HSPA+ as 4G when it's technically part of the whole 4G terminology though.
Ah ok. Yeah the speeds seem comparable, and they do make it clear if you read about it on their site. I didn't know hspa+ was technically 4g so thanks for that info.

Only because there was/is no 4G standard so Att just called it 4G and who is anybody that is not Att to say otherwise? If Att called a bottle of water 4G who would be able to disprove it? 4G IS NOT created equal, it needs to be better standardized and regulated..

Oh wow. Yeah that's quite a bit better than what I'm getting on the current HSPA+ network here. haha. I do feel greedy though when I say "I WANT FASTER" when I can already browse the internet on my phone as fast as I can on my cable connection at home. xD

Straight Talk BYO phone $45 month all unlimited for $15 admission fee (sim purchase)

Straight Talk a MVNO using AT&T network. Data is limited to 2Gb (soft cap i think) and everything else unlimited.
Use any compatible UMTS phone even the AT&T iphone 4 or 4s. Back then you had to buy the e71 phone now they have sims/micro sim for $15
Everything works just configure the proper apn information.

That means you'll get a ST SIM tied to T-Mobile. Not a good thing if you tend to venture away from major metropolitan areas.

Straightalk is scam and ripoff
Didn't work for me. I cannot even use SMS with their unlimited $45 plan. Data is down as well. I'm on Straighttalk AT&T SIM card. Customer support reset the options on their side twice, but it didn't help. I tried two different phones with this SIM card to no avail.

sounds like the apns are not correct. I have been running straighttalk sim on atrix 4g for allmost 6 months. have to enter the apns every time i flash a ICS rom. If you do not put them in correctly no data. (i think 1 time i had a capital letter that was supposed to be lowercase and it did not work)
I have the iPhone 4 on Straight Talk and I love my fast unlimited 3G.
Of course I have everything working including mms.

Unreal Three UK 3G speeds!! WTF!

I received my note 2 LTE N7105 from t-mobile this morning. After leaving to charge and investigating how to unlock the phone (thanks t-mobile for locking it!!) I manged to unlock it with a great app on play store (UnlockUnit) and the N7105 inst even supported yet lol
T-mobiles 3g speeds are terrible where I am in London, average 2-3megs, I didn't care anyway cause the plan was to give their sim to my lil boy, while I pop my 3uk sim in there, happy whit their speeds for a long time, but now check this out!!! I cant reproduce theses speeds with the mrs S3, its still around 9megs on her s3 but when I pop sim into the note 2 its just wow!!

This was the highest speed, average for about 10 tests were around 15-16megs! 3 seems to have upgraded their network! Anyone else with 3uk experiencing this? My network type is reporting HSPAP:15, who needs to sigh up to 4G when you got this crazinessnessness!
That's pretty nuts! How does it feel streaming content off something like youtube with those speeds?
Effortless! No buffering at all. Netflix is like a dream. I don't want to touch the handset in case speed diminishes!
I'm searching google for info on this but am finding nothing. The 3g only note 2 N7100 that i sent back wasn't giving me these speeds
Its slowed down very recently, maybe due to terrible ping? Then sped up again in the 2nd pic, orgasmic!
Cant believe I'm calling 14meg 3g connection slow. I'll accept that. Please, my fellow 3uk users, please share your speeds

I'm getting about 3mb/s H+ here but then again I've never gotten good signal at home.
However my mate on 3 UK has similar 3G speeds on his iPhone 5. I guess mine should be about the same but last time I tried it next to him he wasn't getting great speeds either, seems a bit hit and miss depending on where you are.
Best I've had at home was about 5mb/s
Changing from giffgaff to 3uk soon as there droping there unlimited.
Lets see what ill get on the normal n7100

I'm on N7100 and use 3's One Plan.
I get 12mbps consistently on HSPA+ in central london.
OP - Are you also on HSPA+? I noticed yours says 3G+, Is that just HSPA+? Cos 3 don't roll out LTE until next year.
I guess the modem on the N7105 gives HSPA+ an extra kick.

Which modem version do you have installed? I'm on LJ1 (don't even know if there are any other modems tbh) and I didn't get anywhere near this in/near central london (Angle Islington counts, right? )

My baseband says LJ1, which I'm pretty sure is the modem.
I'm located at Westminster. So what speeds do you get then? If it's not hugely off, I would just blame the traffic nearby.

Just got 79ms ping, 1.91mbps dl and 1.07mbps ul.
Located in Redbridge, and for some reason the speed test app has decided to use a server in sittingbourne rather than the london one.

I'm not sure what I'm on but my network type reports HSPAP 15. Switching to UTMS sometimes. Is this the info you wanted?
I'm in south west London, I did get a text from 3 notifying me of works being carried out in my area about a month ago tho. Wonder what they did or is this, like someone said, thanks to the lte radio even though 3 haven't released lte yet?
Im on 3 and very happy with speed I get in cleethorpes

Yes, I was gonna say that... I am getting my S3 LTE today and I am on three..

Superb to see others with these crazy speeds. These 18mb speeds I'm getting are from inside my house. I wonder how fast it'll be outside. I'll report
I was seeing a trend of only the n7105 getting the 4g like speeds but its good to see n7100 reaching the speeds too. Wasted my time returning my n7100 for a n7105
I can confirm DC-HSPA+ in action on Three UK
I am getting in the excess of 10mbps+ in the same location in my house whereas before I used to get less than half the speed...
