[Q] Gallery and Stock Music App not finding data - Epic 4G General

Ok so I was on ACS 1.01, everything was working smooth as butter. Everything worked except a few minor issues. My gallery and music apps were working just fine. I was using them both on the night of the 17th. I was currently using amosher's gingerbread theme and decided to try his honeycomb theme (both are awsome btw). After I flashed the honeycomb theme though I went into my gallery and it said there were no pictures on the SD card. I checked the folder in ES file explorer and they are still there. They will show up in the ES picture viewer and in the quickpic app from the market, but not the stock gallery. Same thing happened to my music, wont show up in the stock, wikitunes, or the conncected music app, but WILL show up in double twist (also checked in the music folder and all the songs are there). All of my other data seems to be fine with the exception of those. To try and resolve this problem I reflashed ASC 1.01 and had the same results, I then flashed ASC 1.02 (wiped clean) and still nothing. I even tried CM7 with the same results. Any ideas as to what could be causing this, or has anyone had any similar problems? Thanks for any help.

You have a .nomedia file in there somewhere...

Ok I search all of my sd card and found no file with a .nomedia in it. Where would I find such a file, what does it do, and how would I have gotten it?
Ok I stand corrected I found a no .nomedia file. Do I delete this file?

Ok that was it. I deleted it, rebooted and now everything is kosher. Thank you kindly for your help.
How does one get a .nomedia file anyway?

I don't know where yours came from, but the .nomedia file is used to make the media scanner skip the folder with .nomedia in it and all sub-folders. It can be useful if you have folders full of junk that you don't need to show up in the gallery or wherever.

I have d same problem but i didnt find a .nomedia file in my media folder....what do i do????

[Q] Hide music and pics from Gallery and Media players?

So on other android devices to hide music and pics from the media players and gallery you would just set the folder to hidden.
I've tried this and it didn't work.
Also i've created a blank file named ".hidden" with the names of the folders i want hidden in the file and still no go.
The folders are hidden, i can see that when i connect my microSD to my PC (on ubuntu and XP) yet unwanted files still show up in the media player.
This is really annoying because i have a bunch of games and apps and all their little sound effects and pics are showing up in my gallery and music players. Theres nothing like going from one good song to sound effects of a game... :/
Anybody know how to do this right?
2.1 build 6941
Create a file called .nomedia in The directory you want to hide from the music player. Use astro.

How are you creating a .nomedia file?
I've just renamed a folder to .nomedia with stuff within the folder that I wanted to hide via Astro and now my phone has decided to deleted all my media on my phone ( music, photoss and videos ) but the media within the renamed folder is fine, I've even tried returning the folder back to it's original name and I've plugged the card on a PC and they're all gone, just the folders remain......bugger...... take it that there's no way to recover the files?

He means create a file called ".nomedia"
Like a word document would be ".doc" but don't add any other name before the dot, just worked for me too, thanks!
I just copied a small file (eg adwsettings.xml) to the directory and renamed it to .nomedia. when you start the gallery it will rebuild the thumbnails minus the files in The tree where the .nomedia file lives.
I am using the 2.1 o2 build 8xxx.

The Estrongs File Explorer allows you to create a new file with whatever name/type you want.

Are you sure there gone and not just hidden?
What I did to create the file in astro, I created a new zip archive, named it .nomedia and then selected the zip file and chose to rename it and just removed the .zip from the end.

I know this is not really related, but it does change my album art to it's own default on some albums, which i find really annoying!!!!

yeah, I've plugged my card into a PC with show all hidden files and they weren't appearing and Astro has Show Hidden Files on too
Ah well, I'll know for next time, think I've only lost a couple of photo's but most of my media has been backup....I think
There are a couple of free apps in the market that can hide what every file you like one is called HIDEIT i think
Right, copied almost all my media back onto my SD Card, I have now created a New.txt file on my PC, copied that over to a folder with media I wish to hide, then on the phone, I used Astro again to rename the New.txt file to .nomedia file and this has worked fine. Gallery doesn't see it and the files are still there, however, I then decided to test copying the newly created .nomedia file to another folder to hide some other media. Once I backed out of Astro, then entered the native photo app, the media from that folder has disappeared, however, I then return to the folder with the media I just wanted to hide and they have now been deleted again Proper random. I'm guna leave the one I have created first time as for some reason they are still present, but I'm not guna bother with this method of hiding things.
So be warned, this method of creating a .nomedia file, if not done properly, may result in you losing your media!

thats really weird, and you scared me, i just went and checked and everything is still there for me...
In most of the places i put it was in the parent folder of images/sounds i wanted to hide, not the folder they were in. For example the sounds from Lets Golf game by gameloft were showing up in my music player which are in the folder /sdcard/gameloft/games/letsgolf/ but since i have more then one gameloft game installed i put the .nomedia file in /sdcard/gameloft/ Ofcourse this wouldn't work if the files you want the media apps to ignore were only in one folder on the sdcard because then you put the .nomedia in the root of the card it would ignore all the media on the card.

No media found

Hello,
Since this morning my phone doesn't see any media files. My sdcard is mounted and I can see all the files inside with a file manager. But when I open a media player it is telling me that there are no media files. Also in the ringtone menu I cannot see my custom ringtones which showed up fine until this morning. The same thing is happening in the gallery - no photos.
I tried restarting the phone - nothing happens. I have a program called rescan media, used it but still nothing. A have a nandroid backup from a week ago - I restored the backup, went into the default media player that comes with the stock rom, my albums were there, and then 2 minutes later i checked again - no music found. If I take a new picture with the camera and go to gallery I see only that new picture without my older ones, after a media rescan even this new photo disappears.

Check to see if you have a folder named ".nomedia" in your sdcard - this is used to control if a directory and it's subdirectories are visible in the media player.
Same for me,
Gallery dont found anything, but filemanager see everithing
I tried to change the SD, to un/reinstall gallery, update my CM7 rom, wipe cache but alwaysthe same problem...
When I use filemanager to open a picture, gallery load it in about 8seconds but cant see the other pics
Yes I had this .nomedia file in the root folder of my sdcard. I've read about this file and I know that it does that. But the most strange thing is I didn't create it It is dated from yesterday at 00:23. This has to be the work of some app.
Thank you for the help the problem is solved. And greetings from Bulgaria.
Unmount and mount again in the setting and hope it solve ur problem

I accidentally deleted the Gingerbread music player....help.

I accidentally deleted the Gingerbread (.605) music player yesterday. I did the libjumper.so trick to put the Honeycomb 3.0 player on there and I accidentally overwrote the music.apk for gingerbread without making a copy. I supposedly found a copy if the apk and odex, but when I tried to install it....nothing showed up in the menu. I used root explorer to copy the apk and odex to system/app and I changed the permissions to rw-r-r then I rebooted the phone. That always seems to work when restoring system apps in the past but it isn't working this time. What am I doing wrong? And if I have the wrong apk and odex does anyone else have a link to the correct ones?

No idea what you might be doing incorrectly, but here...
http://www.chadhaney.com/droidXDefault/4.5.602/
When I clicked on that link I scrolled down to the music apk and odex. I clicked on them and it had a message on the page that they were downloading, but they weren't actually downloading. There was no download indicator at the top. Do you have another link?

***For People Suffering with Gallery/Music Issues***

If you're having trouble with missing photos/music in CM9/10 just lately... here is what I did and it seemed to resolve the issues I was having
It seems that the Rom Manager update is causing the issue by putting a bad .nomedia file on the sdcard.
How I solved it
1. Get a file explorer and go to the root of both sdcards and see if there is a .nomedia file there and delete it
2. Then go to /android/data on both sdcards and see if there is one there and if so delete those too
3. Then go to Settings and then Apps and uninstall the updates to Rom Manager (we can't uninstall Rom Manager as it comes preinstalled in CM9/10)
4. Whilst in Apps go to all apps and clear data in Media Storage (this will also change your ringtones back to default)
5. Reboot phone
6. Once rebooted you will notice that if you go to gallery you will have no pics at all, just give it a few minutes or maybe longer depending on how many pictures/music you have on your phone and they should reappear after a while. Mine did....
This has worked for me twice now  Let me know if it works for you....
Wow, this is exactly what I am trying so hard looking for the solution for days! All my galleries and music players was messing up, and now it solved thank to you!
Greatly appreciated
istpet elizabeth
thanx alot.... i guess .nomedia was the main problem
Thanks a lot for this fix. Got my camera pictures back but not the pictures from the apps and other music and videos.

Do you have your file explorer configured to show hidden files?

Files disappearing?

I did a search, but it yielded no results, so I'll ask it here... I use file Explorer and every now and again it will tell me in the status bar that I'm using this much space on the internal memory and ask to delete recently downloaded files or something to that effect. I tell it no and go on with my day. Today I realised that 7gb have mysteriously gone missing from my download folder inside file Explorer. I have no idea what happened to them. I'm currently running PureNexus with elimentalX kernel. Has anybody else experienced this? I'm wondering if this could be rom, file Explorer, or download manager related. Thanks in advance...
I am having the exact same damn problem as you. and I cannot copy it out of my phone, because it cannot be found in my phone. lol wtf
PS I am on Android N, and this has happened to me multiple times in the past.
Same thing with me. Stock ROM, rooted.
It's weird, the files can be found on the phone but not while trying to transfer files to PC.
There was a known bug since Android I-don't-know where whenever there is a new folder/file created, commonly in the Downloads folder, Java wasn't reloading that folder so it was stuck to the last time the folder was reloaded, long story-short, it stays as it is until you reload the code.
Try clearing Media Storage cache and then reboot. That got mine fixed.
