I accidentally deleted the Gingerbread music player....help. - Droid X General

I accidentally deleted the Gingerbread (.605) music player yesterday. I did the libjumper.so trick to put the Honeycomb 3.0 player on there and I accidentally overwrote the music.apk for gingerbread without making a copy. I supposedly found a copy if the apk and odex, but when I tried to install it....nothing showed up in the menu. I used root explorer to copy the apk and odex to system/app and I changed the permissions to rw-r-r then I rebooted the phone. That always seems to work when restoring system apps in the past but it isn't working this time. What am I doing wrong? And if I have the wrong apk and odex does anyone else have a link to the correct ones?

No idea what you might be doing incorrectly, but here...
http://www.chadhaney.com/droidXDefault/4.5.602/

When I clicked on that link I scrolled down to the music apk and odex. I clicked on them and it had a message on the page that they were downloading, but they weren't actually downloading. There was no download indicator at the top. Do you have another link?

BlurAlarmClock....

Is there any way to install BlurAlarmClock after installing the EpicUnleashed 2.5 rom? I already tried putting the apk in my apps folder and changing the permissions but nothing seems to work.... thanks in advance!

Try to copy the current Clock.apk to your sdcard for a backup then delete it from your system/app folder and then install the other AlarmClock.apk. see if that works. I had the same problem when I was trying to install the D2Eye modded live wallpaper and it installed fine after I removed the original eye livewallpaper.

JI6 via Kies Mini ... can't delete the bloat!

I just got the JI6 update via kies mini, and I rerooted, put clockwork back on the phone, and now i'm trying to delete the bloatware again
the weird thing is, when I use rootexplorer like i did before, i'd delete the .apk and .odex files, nothing happens. When i go back to the homepage and navigate back to the system/app directory, all the ones i deleted reappear!
what's happening?
Reroot?

The older version of root explorer doesnt work with ji6 you need to download 2.12 (newer version) and it works fine.

I'm having the same issue..
got J16 update via kies and can't delete bloatwares even with root explorer 2.12...
please help!!
I had the same problem. For me the files were more hidden. I deleted the ones I found in the directory folder several times and it didn't work. I had to go deep into the files to find the correct folder. I don't remember exactly, but it was something like system/data/data. just search through all of the folders until you find one that is only apk and .odex files and delete the ones you don't want from there.....it worked for me.

adding app to a rom before flashing

moving app from data/app to system/app free app space but some app after move don't work (google goggles, setcpu, gosms, an more), so i take the apk and put into rom (oxygen 2.1.3) inside system/app folder, flashed and restarted, but they still not work
what i'm doing wrong?
sorry for bad english
I'm not an expert but I believe they also have to have the right permissions. Check what permissions the other apps in the system partition have and change the permissions on the apps you're trying to move accordingly.
Sent from my VM670 using XDA App
permissions are the same rw-r--r-- in data/app and remain rw-r--r-- in system/app
but for example when i move with rootexplorer "setcpu" at restart i have a force close and i can't use it
with "go sms" no force closes i can read messages but when i write a new one tapping on "+" to show phone book to select peope the app go in loop searching for contacts
with a widget for check credit on my phone i can't add widget if moved to system/app
i tryed other app like google goggles, google earth all give a force close at startup and not work until remove to data/app
moving ephinefrine, flash 10.3 , adobe reader, winamp and many other give no error and app still work correctly
Try extracting the apk and putting the lib.(whatever it says).so file into system / lib folder . Then put the original apk in the system / apps folder. And that should do it!

[Q] Manually installing system app, reboot, no .odex

I recently rooted my stock AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 (MF3) and have been implementing a few improvements that I've found on this thread but have run into a strange error twice already when trying to replace an existing system app with a modded version.
With other phones in the past I simply paste an app into system/app and set RW-R-R permissions, then reboot the phone. During the next boot it usually says "android is upgrading 1 of 1" and creates a matching .odex file in the /system/app folder and everything works perfect.
So far I've tried to replace the SecPhone.apk with a version that allows call recording, and the TetheringProvision.apk with one that will let me tether on my AT&T phone. In both instances I reboot, but it never says "upgrading", nor is an .odex file created, and then the app fails to work. With the TetheringProvision.apk I also kept getting a "failed to change permissions" error in ES File Explorer, so I retried with Root Explorer, and SMangager but none of them could change the permission on the apk once it was in the system/app folder (yes /system was mounted R/W). I'm not sure if this is related to the above problem or not.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? I have frozen most of the Samsung bloatware apps and while I've been careful, I suppose I could have accidentally frozen something important, but everything other than these replacement system apps seems to be working perfectly. I thought android automatically checked for new apps on every boot, but apparently not on my phone.
Is there any way to force an app check on boot? Thanks for the help.
So I guess no one else has had a similar issue...

You can not mod a rom that is odexed...period, unless it is made for odex.

Sorry, what do you mean by "period, unless it is made for odex"? Can you or can't you?

For an Odexed system, an Odex file is required to be installed along with the original file. So if a mod is created for an "Odexed" system, it will have a .odex file accompanying it that must be installed also. Installing a deodexed file into an odexed system doesn't work unless the deodexed file is split down into its 2 parts again (original file, plus .odex file)..
This was very helpful. Is there a guide you could recommend to me on how to make an odex file from the modded apk that I have so that I can get these programs working on my S4?

Following article explains the odexing procedure "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208320"

Unable to uninstall: com.sonyericsson.album_5.4.A.0.22.apk

I recently installed com.sonyericsson.album_5.4.A.0.22.apk, but like a noob I didn't read the description before hand and the apk file is actually only for Xperia Z2 System/Media/App ] Apks and Odex and Jar files for Z1
The apk installed as normal, however I can't find the application in my app drawer and using root explorer the album apk is not showing in system/app system/private app or any other location.
The problem is that I am not able to install the correct version as the wrong apk has to be removed somehow first, when I try to restore the version that used to work from titanium backup - it just hangs at restoring and never restores successfully. Trying to restore the apk directly from a file manager results in a "not installed" message - I think this is because the wrong apk is still hidden somewhere in my device.
Any suggestions guys? any suggestions will be highly appreciated :good:
Heres the thread from which I found the incorrect apk from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665174
I've also attached the apk file here.

If you installed it like a normal app (just opened the apk), then look into /data/app.

Thanks for the suggestion, but its not there either - strange.
Then how do you know, that it isn't gone yet?
The system wont allow me to install it again or any other com.sonyericsson.album.apk file, I'll keep checking system directories one by one until I find it.
Flash philz recovery, then download aroma file explorer from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236977 then, boot into recovery, begin to flash aroma file manager. Once the manager loads, navigate to the file you want to delete and do it that way
