Need poll deleted from thread - EVO 4G General

It's pretty sad that I have had to post in a big thread regarding this and had to directly try and PM a moderator to have this done and still not had this taken care of. I have people asking questions regarding the poll and I have to tell them to disregard it because I, the creator of my own thread, can't delete a poll that I made. Makes no sense.
So, FOR THE LAST TIME, WILL A MODERATOR DELETE THE POLL ON THIS THREAD

Thanks. Appreciate it. I'll be bumping and re-posting until the poll gets deleted. I shouldn't have to do 3 different things to have a problem taken care of that shouldn't even be a problem.

I'm sure that you are a helpful person, and that many people appreciate your work here,...
But can't help feeling that this is a bit over aggressive and unnecessary.

With "threats" to keep bumping until your (frankly minor) problem is taken care of.
Maybe you could just make a Big Red Notice on the OP about the poll?
(editing, so I don't bump.) : I just don't think this will endear you to the XDA staff, or community, ya know?

It wouldn't be over-aggressive or unnecessary if this wasn't the 3rd time I've tried to get the poll deleted. If the moderators who are put in the position to moderate would check their private messages on here and on IRC, this never would have happened.
I will keep re-posting this if this thread is deleted and I will keep bumping it until a moderator, whose job it is to moderate, does his job.
It's a simple concept, really.

I PM'd toast. I PM'd him on IRC. I posted in a big thread for people to report or make requests to moderators. Nothing happened. I'm not going to put it on my thread as I shouldn't have to. It's my thread. I should be able to delete my own polls. It makes no sense that I can't.

yeah, i understand... but remember, there is only one moderator specifically for the evo section... i am sure he has a lot of pms, and a lot of other things to do as well.

not wrong... because i said mod. There are plenty of admins, but aren't they not for any specific section? look at the bottem of the general forum section, you see that number of mods? .... fail.

I've seen plenty of Senior Moderators from other boards step in here and close threads that they aren't in charge of moderating. If they can do that, they can delete a poll. I don't understand why it's this difficult to have such a simple task done? I should be able to delete it myself, but can't. Silliest thing ever.

I was told by a senior mod in this thread that senior mods can edit polls and admins can remove them. According to this thread, there are three admins (including mikechannon who removed my poll when I pmed him about it). So to remove a poll, you need to pm one of those three people.
btw, that first thread I mentioned that said to reach out to an admin is the first result when searching the term "how to remove a poll" (without quotes). just sayin.
for some perspective, I have a ton of people in my office that we allow access to edit certain information, but none of them have access to remove it entirely. I imagine admins vs mods are set up the same way. Good luck.

There is a number of threads that already comer the same damn subject. If you have a question, please stick to one thread and ask them there. Also, check the damn forum and see whether the same thing has been posted. How many damn DK28 threads did we need started in 20 minutes?
I realize that you may not get as many responses as you might if you posted a new thread, but you will also not annoy longtime readers and posters. It is a delicate balancing act, trying to maintain a welcoming atmosphere while keeping the first few pages full of good content rather than of threads with questions that could be answered in a single line, and you can all help each other out by showing some consideration for other members.
Before posting a new thread, please ask 2 questions:
1) Is my question/issue that can be posted in one of the existing threads?
2) Is this post likely to stimulate interesting conversation.
I hope that mods would start just deleting threads instead of merging them, if they think that the poster ought to have known better.

While the intent of the thread was good, there are other things in place to remind users about what they should and should not do, aka the Forum Rules.
I have closed this thread for a few reasons, but the most prevailing one being that you (OP) were being flamed for the kind of verbiage used in your thread.

News about current circumstances

As some of you may have noticed a few threads have dissappeared in the DEV section
This is because of two reasons, the first being the Developer wanting to leave xda, the second being the sheer level of bad language to be found in them.
I also want to remind everyone that opening a topic to ask a developers to come back is not helpful or wanted, and they are currently being deleted. And those certain members who feel hat they have been wronged and start rom bashing. will be dealt with severely

no x10 section is under the enter forums rules, however if a person spams or trolls then they get seen to fast

i [read no one of importance] think this would be an opportune time to clean things up in the different forums, maybe enforce a general guideline for devs in thread naming and structure, maybe eliminate some of the stickies that are no longer needed [ie 2.1 after effects and 2.1 rom coming soon, petition for froyo, etc] so more important stickies don't get lost in sticky land [ie forum rules/guidelines].
i think with some structure and uniform, people wouldn't be so quick with the "create another thread about gingerbread coming" mentality.
just a suggestion and in no way telling anyone how to moderate their forum.

This dev who shall not be named has many people who adrore or hate him . The people who liked him are now taking everychance to criticize other devs

Apparently this has arise again today, it was matter of time. We need a community of sharing and friendly environment without threads turning in flame wars and offensive. Actions will be trigger to those who fuel this no matter what their status are (devs or members).

Just one question could you please kindly explain why you mods just delete Trip's threads while you clean up other threads If the same thing happens? I think if you ban the flamers does the job not to delete the whole thing. Thanks

Free open source is being misused. These devs are contributing for free. Free source doesn't mean we can expect slavery or even cooperation.
What? Are you going to say that since a person isn't updating or contributing fast enough, or even having disagreements with others, that they don't deserve the opportunity to participate in an open and free forum?
Edit: Not to mention, that most of the people *****ing are senior members who contribute nothing more than assistance to noobs who break more xda rules than any developer, and the fact that Trip provides some of the best ROMs for the X10 should elevate him to untouchable status.
Anyone who talks **** about Trip better be a majorly contributing developer, otherwise just shut up.

I agree with you. They offer a ROM that is free for everyone to use. Where does it say that they are obliged to update it? Whether they do or don't is completely up to them. As for the flaming and taunting, I do not agree with that and everyone, whether its a dev, mod or member should exercise courtesy and respect towards others. It seems that this forum has turned into a soap opera lately which is really disappointing.

You firstly mentioned that that dev doesn't have the intension to continue his work.But I am wondering if he had given such comments here on his/other posts.Would you mind to provide some evidence?I am pretty sure that you deleted the posts after you have read some of his comments.
For the sheer level of bad language,I always read post.
In a war,yes,it is no doubt that some devs here are/were arguing because someone want to protect his own work,personally I think it would be better to define the level of bad language.Calling people a copycat,saying someone is a glitch violate the rules?Language is not maths,meanings of word varies from person to person.
Also,it is understanding that someone speaks bit rudely when he is in anger.
Furthermore,what if that dev really can show some evidence that someone might forget to give him credit?

Really disappointed about what has happened here. I woke up to see the x10 forums in pieces.
I'm sure the aim of this forum is to forge cohesiveness between users who are willing to learn and share with developers who are willing to selflessly Take time out of their busy schedule to cook up roms for our users
I know that whatever I'm gonna say here ain't gonna change the mod ' s mind but I hope the mods can really come clean about what really happened here instead of using vague terms like "attitude problem" or "unwilling to work on updates" when he releases updates almost once a day. Just like a democratic government, and citizens of a democracy, transparency and accountability to the people should top priority

Sad to see him leave, only for the developments he provided to X10, the conflict wont be missed but what I seem to be missing is about 30 or 40 post to my post count. This has happened before to me when he closed/deleted a thread of his. It is not really important in the grand scheme of things but my posts were not offensive, mostly helpful and relevant questions to Trip or others. Is it fair that I (others also) loose or have a reduction to their post count throught the deletion of the thread? I dont post a lot so will take a little time to build it back up lol. Cheers

Simply starting a thread complaining isn't going to help if you can't have a civil discussion with the mods.

the issue is that any thread regarding "epic general chat" in the "epic general chat" section is closed, yet numerous unrelated flaming, trolling threads remain open.. how is a thread asking where to begin learning to develop for the epic off topic in the "epic" general chat?

What planet are you from? The issue is you mods keep closing helpful and meaningful threads with no explanation, then leaving the useless and detrimental ones open for the trolls to devour. Obviously there is some sort of disconnect, so please sort out your internal troubles before coming in here flaunting your moderator status. Chris41g and I have been here for quite some time so we're no stranger to the overpowering by mods, but at some point it has to stop and I think now is a great time. We go months and months without seeing a single moderator and now all of a sudden you guys come in and starting closing/deleting threads left and right with no explanation. Please refer me to whoever you have as a supervisor, I would like to speak to them directly if not tonight then tomorrow.

If random uninformed users flash Enyo's ICS instead of JT's that's on them for not reading.
PS - Nobody gives a **** how many times you've donated to JT, it's not like its some badge of honor that people wield about as weapons. Please put your epeen away.

Its just a phase of high drama that will hopefully pass quickly.

When people don't post garbage in threads, plenty of Devving goes on in Dev threads. Or, at least it used to. That's just one of the plethora of reasons JT no longer posts here.

I have never used profanity in any of my posts nor have I ever sent it in a PM. I don't appreciate nasty, vulgar, f-bomb filled messages sent to me and I really don't like seeing it on the threads either, but since I am not the forum police I don't say much about it unless it's extremely vulgar and abusive, like the PM gfosco sent me. I don't think you get it: Did you in any way consult with, ask permission for or notify jt in any way about posting a link to HIS work on this forum? If the answer is yes and he ok'ed it, then I apologize and I will go back to minding my own business. However, I know this is not what happened. You didn't ask his permission in any way and therefore you stepped over the line. Now, is it a really big deal, no. But, many of us are friends with jt (as much as you can be through the internet), we spend a lot of time in IRC together. So, we know his wishes regarding HIS work and we respect that. He has stated in NO way does he want any of his work posted on xda. We would rather not have jt say fu** it and stop posting builds on the forums period because his wishes aren't being considered. That would screw over a lot of people like yourself (who donate to jt) and there would be NO links at all to post, like the one you posted. The conclusion: was what you did, in itself, wrong? No. But you did not ask his permission to post HIS intellectual property on this forum, and that my friend is wrong. Did many of us sort of "attack" you for doing it? In a way yes, but you understand why. Please respect the wishes of the developers, and if you don't know there wishes....ask.

Look, it doesn't make sense and I don't believe that JT is that fake-private about posting his work. (And I didn't post or re-share his ROM, only a link to Rootzwiki.) If it's public on Rootzwiki, why is anyone to think it's not straight up ****ing public?

android development = using a base/other sources and adding in certain features/tweaks
so your thread is clearly posted in the wrong forum!

Original Android Dev has "ORIGINAL" DEV. It has official ports and works that are ORIGINAL and NEW.
The other has port and custom built roms.

Users like you two are what's wrong with the community.
New people come here and they aren't aware of the rules. Then, members who are more acquainted tell them the standard behavior and how they should treat the forums. "Post topics in relevant subforums. Questions go in Q&A, accessories goes in Accessories, etc" and "this has already been answered, you should have used the search function."
These are not rules made to piss you off. They are not rules by accident. They are suggestions of common sense and practical experience that helps prevent the forums from becoming disorganized and repetitive. You have no idea what a burden it is to have dozens of threads talking about the same thing. Or, to want to browse threads of a certain theme (Themes, for example), but every other thread is of a vastly different topic.
It is tremendously childish to disparage someone who is trying to help enforce rules. They only do so for the sake of clarity and organization. You are being very unhelpful by not directing new users and letting them do whatever they want. What do you think is accomplished if everyone takes your attitude? Those new users require feedback and guidance. The only response OP should make in regard to this is: "oh, I didn't know. Thank you for telling me so genially. I will remember this lesson."
It's tragic that both of you can be so condescending and immature, yet simultaneously chastise rule-enforcers–who are actually cordial and helpful–of being condescending and immature. That sounds uncannily child-like. You two are ridiculous and should feel ridiculous.
Don't think the mods are ever vigilant and omnipotent. Unless they read through every post of every thread, they aren't going to catch everything. That's why there's a report button next to every post. Simply posting a comment to let new users know that the posters should adhere to certain guidelines to maintain organization and reduce clutter helps mods tremendously by distributing the manpower needed to manage a huge forum like xda.
Seriously, the other posters are actually contributing by informing OP of how the site works, while you two are basically saying "F the man! I do what I want, and you should do what you want! YOLO!" This attitude leads to a terribly organized forum. I can't even fathom what goes through your heads. "Yo, don't listen to these more experienced xda members! They are just nerds! To inform ppl & to direct our newer members to the correct forums is one thing, But to make fun of or to ridicule users is another & not acceptable let alone helpful. Its because of [email protected]$$ comments like that, that alot of users have left to other Android forums. Bravo you deserve a star for that...NOT.
