has the bootloader been cracked for x8 ?? how to enable netfilter/iptable in kernal to use proxy in wifi.... ?
No it's not.
just hoping they will finally crack it, that one feature i really want but i might end up having to buy a new phone that supports it.
the ported cyanogen mod roms have proxy settings in their submenu. so, it actually doesn't do anything? it doesn't have any proxy capability?
just curious, i don't have access to proxy-ed network so can't really test.

hi guys i just got t-mobile mytouch 3g & im wondering if i can use it as modem for my laptop.
if i can can u tell me how plz ,, step by step
Yes you can...
If I'm not mistaking there is an app available on the market called "Proxoid"
This should enable you to use your phone as a modem.
Hope this helps you out.
You can use Proxoid if you don't have root. As the name suggests, it sets up a proxy which you set in your web browser. You need to have the phone connected via cable for this to work. This uses either your wifi connection or carrier 3G connection as internet, whatever is enabled on the phone.
If you do have root, get a ROM someone on these forums has made with "netfilter and iptables" in the kernel, and you can use wireless tether. This way your laptop connects to your phone via wifi, and you use your carrier 3G as internet.
The app "aNetShare" in market lets you do this for free, as does android-wifi-tether project. You need netfilter/iptables for these apps to work. They won't work on a stock ROM, or on a "just rooted" ROM, they need a special kernel.
You can also pay for PDAnet for $29 or the "tether Wifi" market app for $8.95 which do the same thing.
(as an aside, don't start threads in development for questions like this, people get angry at you and your thread will get either moved, deleted or forgotten about anyway)
Hi everyone, im new here
I just got my X10 yesterday. Now I have a problem on using wifi in my univ campus.
The wireless network is encrypted with WPA2-Enterprise. However I can't find wpa2-enterprise option in the wifi configuration, only wpa2-personal. It seems like wpa2-enterprise is supported by android, since my HTC Hero can work with wpa2-enterprise.
Is there any way around to let wifi in X10 work with wpa2-enterprise?
thx~
It seems really X-10 it is not yet an enterprise phone.
I need to use wep in my company with key index 3 and there is no way to select itnly the default 1.
theoretically android 1.6 supports wpa enterprise, but dunno why doesnt work on our x10
Hi!
Did anyone manage to connect to an ad hoc wifi network? Its my understanding that you have to root your phone and edit some files in order to do so. My phone is already rooted. Anyone willing to try it out and give the steps here?
Thanks!
Android 2.1 does not support this.
Yes! I know that! But i think you can edit some files after rooting in order to allow this?
Galaxy S wont find ad hoc AP, how to fix?
Hi, how to configure galaxy to connect to a ad hoc ap? It seems like wont find the ac hoc SSID at all?
Hello,
Ad Hoc Access Points support start with Froyo, if you really need it, give the latest XXJP2 a try
Any luck finding the answer?
Nope! No luck yet! And it seems no one is interested
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
have you tried modifying those files (wpa_supplicant.conf and others)?
Are you just trying to use your phone as a mobile APN? Because this is built into the galaxy S.

I am trying to use my wired LAN connection on my phone using the Laptop's ad-hoc wifi connection.
I'm reasonably confident that it simply isn't supported in Android 2.1 and that it's totally unrelated to config files (i.e. There's nothing your average user can do about it). I don't know if ad-hoc wireless made it into Froyo but there has definitely been an official feature request filed to Google for ad-hoc functionality.
i also find it very annoying that sgs doesn't support ad-hoc.
You can try to use this software http://www.connectify.me/
sadly it uses windows 7..
Just had a look over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754961
Can any dev please patch the SGS version of wpa_supplicant? Pretty please?
Another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755254
really??
i couldn't find it even though i have jp3
The android OS filters out all Ad-hoc networks. There was a patched wpa_supplicant that seems to be working for some. I tried it and it does display the ad-hoc networks but fails when trying to obtain an IP... I am stay playing with it but I will update if I even manage a connection.

[Q] still no ad hoc in JPC??
is it true??
i tried a couple times and i'm still wondering about this ad-hoc problem
anyone?
i really need to confirm this
[Q] ad hoc in jpc??
is there still no ad hoc compability in the new FW JPC??
is there any trick to connect wi-fi from laptop to galaxy s.
PS: i use vista, so no connectify.
thx
Hey guys,
Hopeing someone has some usefully information. I've been looking online and the forums for any help but haven't been able to find any answers that I'm looking for in reguards to the built in Wi-fi hotpsot for andriod 2.2.1 stock release. I use my hotspot at work a lot and was wondering if anyone knows of any ways to disconnected or premanently block someone off of my network. The hotspot doesn't seem to have any way of booting someone off of of my network outside of setting it to onle 1 connection available and hoping some **** doesn't beat me to the connection while my computer connects. Theres someone in the office that has their phone to just simply connect to any network I'm guessing and he continues to latch on to my hotspot even though its WPA encrypted. If anyone has any useful info or can recommend a program to use with an un-rooted phone I would be very thankful.
Thanks guys!
Does anyone have any info that can help me?
If your hotspot is encrypted, he can't use it. He can try to connect to it, but he won't get his network working.
And you can use the "Manage users" feature of the hotspot in Sense, and enable MAC address confirmation for each user - so he won't even get allowed to connect.
Well thats the thing, I've been looking through the manage users option and it only gives me the Mac address of the **** trying to connect to my network. It doesn't give me the option to do anything except "hers their mac and their ip" and most of the time it just shows "ip: not available" THere are only 2 options that I see and thats "Allowed users only" and "Max. Connections" Where in sense would my MAC filter option be available?
usb tether?
Before turning on the hot spot, go to portable wifi hotspot settings. There you can set it to where you need a password to connect to your network.
I use wep security. You can put whatever password you want.
Hi, I am on speakout 711 canada with the unlimited "browsing" option that can be tweeked.
The phone works pretty good just with the apn settings from Speakout wireless on the handset, you can only use port 80 I am pretty sure as this is not a full data plan.
In GB on a dersire without rooting or anything like that (no autoproxy app) I could use the wifi hotspot feature with my laptop as long as my browser was using the corrent proxy settings.
Now it isn't working on the N4, but on the other hand lots of apps are working just with the proxy settings for speakout, but I would like to tether now and then to my mac, and it isn't working.
I am just learning but maybe someone out there can help me figure this out, I am having to swap the sim back into my old blackberry to use bluetooth tether, it works but I would rather just stick to the nexus and leave the blackberry for an emerg phone LOL
Thanks for your help everyone
