Full battery drain in just 6hrs! - Galaxy S I9000 General

Battery drain in just 6hrs, 2.2.1 JPY XEU. (while idle overnight), phone was turned off in the morning from 100% before going to bed. (completly drained)
Voodoo kernal with voodoo lagfix/sound.
Ive done a full wipe and installed only the apps from the market (not installed any of my gameloft games)
Not sure yet if this has fixed it but...
Is there Any app i can use to see what the trouble is?

Constant seeking WiFi may be the problem .

Went into settings and it says scanning... Every 5-10secs or so.
And how do i fix it?

Try the APP "Green Power" from market, it turns off wifi automatically when not in use, plus lot other power saving features.
I too have the same experience previously. now this App helps me a lot.

Sorry to jump in but can you tell me where you found this, I have gone into settings wifi but cannat see it anywhere

If you have disabled GPS and Bluetooth read the following, if not do so and come back^^
1. Go into battery stats and look out for anomalies
2. let your phone run out of power and shut down by itself, if the drain does not change significantly after that.
3. think about your installed apps. chat apps like skype and facebook are evil battery eating bastards.
4. check out whether your modem fits your region
5. Reflash the kernel

how to know to best modem that feet my region please ? i have have tried many of them i all work fine but how to know the best one ?

I had sort of the same problem as well. I downloaded Android System Info and went in to tasks and killed com.seven.Z7.service, and that made it stop use my data transfer 100% of the time. Worth a shot? I think it's the SGS email client, that has been reported before as well. Weird cause I've got push email, but still...

Its definatly a wifi issue, i thought a full wipe AND and fresh rom flash would clear it - but no luck
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk

I just need a clue, wifi driver? Re-partition? Kernel issue?
Any developers know what could cause wifi to keep scanning when enabled?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk

ive tried countless different roms and full wipes - ive heard of others having this issue on not only the galaxy s, but the galaxy tab and also HTC phones (a quick google search)
so, is this an android issue?
i refuse to believe that there isnt one developer on this forum, that doesn't know the answer and fix to this problem?

Easy Fix... (For the SGS anyway)
Go to... Menu>Wireless and network>Wi-Fi settings.
Uncheck "Network Notification"
Then tap the menu button (to the left of the home button) and tap "advanced"
Select "Wi Fi sleep policy" and set it to "When screen turns off"
Your battery life will improve drastically. Just drain the battery fully, and give it a full charge.
Let me know if this helps you.

Rom Kitchin build your own rom choose modem and csc .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817703
XWJS8_Wipe.zip, version: v9_9_5 ROM, coupled with a hardcore kernel and a jpx modem.
Wi Fi sleep policy" and set it to "When screen turns off"
= 4% battery drain overnight .

It still keeps scanning for networks whilst im connected to my home wifi.
I dont want the wifi to disconnect when my screen goes off, i download and dont want it.switching to my data allowance just because the screeb turned off.

Unchecking Menu>Wireless and network>Wi-Fi settings.>"Network Notification"
You get no scanning for open networks so maybe you stop to scan networks while associated.
I think this is a problem with the modem.bin try to flash other one maybe JPY, JPU or JPM

Can you please check in wi-settings and see if it keeps scanning every 5 seconds when already connected to wifi.
... It may be normal behaviour, but.i doubt it.

I can confirm regular scanning when connected to Wi-Fi. I have never noticed this before. Interesting....
I am getting anywhere from 1 - 2.5 days out of my battery though.

[Q] Awake Time

I thought maybe we should have one thread where everyone having the same problem can come troubleshoot it.
On EB01, I have 100% awake time. I tried wiping and reinstalling fresh, but still sporadically it won't sleep. I've had some results turning off GPS, then back on. But that doesn't always work to resolve it.
Anyone else have anything they tried and it works consistently for them?
For me, if gps is on in the pull down shade, the phone doesn't sleep.
Probably a bug that will hopefully get addressed before release.

Confirmed issue heard from others btw. But where's the point of having gps even on when you don't need it? Just kills the battery anyways...

In all other versions, it wasn't actually "on" until an app needed it. In this version it's still not "on" it's just preventing the phone from sleeping.
Best practice for EB01 is to disable it until it's actually needed and then your battery life should significantly improve (assuming i'm not the only one that suffers this bug).

On DL09 I could keep it enabled and the only time it would "activate" was when I started Maps or the browser (Google is my homepage and i've enabled location sharing).
Either way my battery life is pretty much back to normal just by disabling GPS in the notification shade.
I've realized that upon boot, if I turn off GPS for a few minutes, turn it back on, then go into maps or latitude, the awake time will go back to normal. If I reboot and never go through this process, I'll get 100% awake time.
I seem to have forgotten where the awake time is displayed. Anyone refresh my memory?
Cheers

Regarding Batteri Issues "Temp fix maybe"

Hey,
Iam getting my phone tomorrow, but i have been doing some reading in the different topics.
I found this link in one of the topics postet by "xdadroid88"(thanks to him
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=15057
i have read through it and this is the tips i found.
1. Set the wifi policy on "always on"
2.Location & Security -> Use wireless networks / Use GPS satellites. I've disable both options
3. switch off Latitude
Seems like this is a issue in Gingerbread 2.3.3 and is resolved in 2.3.4
Try this and post the results
So disable wifi/gps and battery is better? That's news!
Dont need to be rude, just trying to help, it can be a different problem on the sgs 2, just telling people what they can try and maybe maybe it works for some

LOL.......
That's not even what he said, those settings are for letting your phone track your location. :-/
I'll give this a go OP and post tomorrow. Thanks.
the OP actually meant to say "wifi sleep policy". and yes the issue was with wifi. ironically setting wifi sleep to NEVER is better for battery life than letting it go to sleep, because when it switches back to 3g it uses more power. leaving on wifi always uses less power than leaving on 3G because of latency and other factors. counter intuitive but true.

[Q] Anyone else having locking/freezing issues with CM 7.1 RC1?

I updated to CM 7.1 RC1 last week and I've noticed a few times where the device has locked up after "going to sleep". Essentially, if I leave it on the coffee table with WiFi on and let the screen turn itself off, it won't respond when I return to it 20-30 minutes later. I have to force reboot via the power button + nook button.
Just curious if anyone else has noticed it or if it's just me. If it's a common issue I'll escalate to the CM folks, if it looks like just me I'll start the long and tedious process of uninstalling apps one by one. =)
I have at least one every day. I figure its just a price I pay. Over all its the best rom I have used.

Only once have I had the issue you described. I leave WiFi on some of the times, but majority of the time I have it off when I am done using it. I know some people have mentioned using Tasker or something similar to turn WiFi off when screen goes off so that it can perhaps be prevented.
EDIT: I don't believe I can link yet on my account, but search General for the post "NC, CM7, Dalingrin OC kernel.. Sleep of Death" and start about post #6.
Thanks bio, that looks like the exact issue I'm experiencing.

That's a pretty generic statement... what did you blacklist within Droid wall to increase battery life / fix the issue?
I'm facing random freezes when I open an application like tweetdeck or mercury and leave it updating from the internet. After some time, I'm not using it, it just stucks. To get it back to life I have to press for a few seconds the power button to shutdown it and then again to power it on. I have used different nightlies, voltages or governors but it is still here.
Now, I don't have freezes since yesterday that I really reduced the voltages but I'm not sure if my problem is solved.
configuration: 144 nightly 300-1100mhz xlv profile
not sure if anyone has told you that what you describes is called:
Sleep of death.
Felt to be possibly related to wifi being on all the time. In wifi settings, go to advanced change it wifi to off when screen off.

I'm sorry. I use the white list feature and only check mark the current application that I want to use and allow to access the internet. It keeps everything else from using background data.
For example right now I selected xda and updated rules.

It seems that I solved it reducing the voltages. When sod occurs a black screen appears right? I never had sod, only random freezes.

[Q] ICSbattery drain

Hey guys, i'm using acronium ics 1.0 with stock kernel plus cwm. First night and the next morning it's like 50% battery overnight.
And the andriod system have them most! It usually goes to the display in GB. any potential issues here or how do i fix that?
Same problem here. I am using doom kernel v4.
Anyway try to use wifi or 2g if possible. The battery is awesome!

So the problem was caused by GSM data?
I'll try turn it off and see what happen.
Is this only acronium? or the ICS?
1/ Try to reset your phone after charge ...
2/ Remove some file in init.d if (1) isn't solution.
3/ Try another kernel

1) definitely not helping
2) don't know what to do
3) worth a try
from the other threads this problem could be caused by baseband .70, so maybe flash back to .64 is the cure. Not tested yet
I have arconium ICS 1.0 and stock kernel with CWM, the overnight drain is about 10% with everything on (Bluetooth, GPS, 3G, Wifi, etc)
What I did notice however is if you switch off Wifi the drain gets higher, try leaving on the Wifi and see if that helps.
I am using the official ICS Nordic rom and also had problems with the battery retaining the charge. Have changed the following and it seems to be ok now.
Go into settings/wifi and press the menu key
Go into advanced/Keep WIFI on during sleep and change settings to Only when plugged in.
Also try this
Go into settings/Developer Options Put a tick in Stay awake and then immediately Untick it. Do a restart and should be ok.
It's a long shot but it may just work for your ROM
I flash back to CM7 and happy now. Might wait and see for a while for another try for ICS.
I try the tips you guys provided (btw, thx!) and nothing changed. It's always power hungry plus GSM data slow and problematic. I can't even play funghi and temple run properly. On my drive back home the device just reboot itself, and all I did was using stock music player.

Bugs in 10.4.B.0.569 update

Even though we have finally received the 4.3 update from SONY,
it seems like shipped with some noticeable bugs.
It's better if we can mention the bugs we have encountered after the 4.3 update
1. ) SONY Select
As many people have reported this service is not working in either mobile broadband or wifi connections.
Only a error text is shown as "No network connection. Please try again later"
2.) NFC icon
It suddenly get disapeared while it's already activated by quick settings.
3.) Airplane mode
When the Airplane mode is turned on by power button menu, it cannot be turned off using the same menu since it's disabled.
I had to go to the settings menu and turn it off from there.
4.) Network mode switching
3G networking and LTE network mode switching does not happening correctly in automatically (sometimes).
work arround found :
Had to go to the network settings and disable the mobile data
turn on the airplane mode on and again turn it off
enable the mobile data again then it will correctly jump to LTE network type
5.) Battery bug
Battery suddenly dropped from about 40 % to 8% (without any downloaded applications.)
6.) Overheating
Phone is incredibly overheating while using the HSPA+ or LTE data connection.
with 4.2.2 i didn't had this much of overheating issue.
Please share your findings also :highfive:

1 - No, it is working fine since 2 days ago.
2 - No, this is a customization thing, if you flashed a firmware from a different region it may have been disabled. It is normal, you can re-enable it editing build.prop.
3 - No, it works fine on mine.
4 - No, i don't have this problem.
5 - It happened to me in the first two hours of installing the new firmware, but from 13% to 0% reducing itself in 1% increments every 2 seconds (and it turned itself off), it may be some kind of battery recalibration after installation, it hasn't happened again since then.
6 - I don't feel like it is overheating more than before.
I thing you should do a factory reset. I did it after 4.3 update and the only bugs i have found are:
1 - Progress bar overlaping text while installing applications
2 - Standalone wifi hotspot toggle widget not working (the one in the configurable toggles in notification area works fine)
3 - Bluetooth A2DP music streaming skips a lot in my BMW Car Infotainment system while not charging the phone. It could be some kind of energy saving feature on the bluetooth that it is screwing things up. It worked 10 times better when i was in Android 4.2.2
cheers.
